My first visit to Obz Cafe was a delight. The service was efficient and friendly. The vibe is cool and relaxed, the food is awesome from first sight to last bite! Their sumac spiced calamari has to be eaten to be believed! Hannah and Andre Roux and their staff made a birthday celebration that much better! Highly recommend.

The heritage design is awesome but it comes second to the flame grilled chicken they offer, I was staying in Mitchell’s Plain but when the craving got me , it’s got me, I drove over a dozen times from Mitchell’s Plain to OBZ cafe just for their awesome chicken
Great vibe. Great food. Great staff. Nice relaxed atmosphere
Absolutely phenomenal! Still the only place to serve food that puts my mind on a trip as well as my taste buds!
Awesome food, great service, fabulous vibe. On my list of favourites
Every time we visit Cape Town (which is every year sometimes twice) we get an uber to come here and have food and a couple of beers. Excellent food and service. Plus we religiously have the same pic in the same seat taken every time by the window ledge. Love this place. “OBZ leads others just follow”.
Really lovely place with beautiful faces and beautiful music. Best place I have been to in Observatory. :)
Sat at the table on the sidewalk and had great food and a couple of drinks with friends. Watched the world go by. Great times.....
They deserve all the stars .... will done on service, and bring gracious. I'm so glad the waitress was rewarded after such terrible humiliation. God bless you all.
Good location if you don't mind street parking. Warm, cosy atmosphere. Service is decent. Food is pretty good with great drinks options. Good value for money.
Popped in here for dinner with a friend. It was my first time actually sitting down. Although I always order on UberEats. Very generous serving of avo on the burger. The pasta sauce was seriously delicious. Ambience s perfect for chilled vibes. I also really like the photographs on the walls. Super cute. Highly recommend ❤️
Staff is really friendly and accommodating. Restaurant has a unique, rustic serges tic which provides for a great atmosphere and feel. Food is good and moderate proration served.
The munchy crunchy burger is so so good.
Service was a bit slow, but that won’t stop me from coming again.
Nice atmosphere and has that Obz vibe.
Such a lekker easy vibe here.
Perfect for students!
Cocktails are delicious and all priced at R65.
Menu is extensive and has something for everyone. Their pizzas are bomb!
The calamari is also yummy, very different.
Thursday nights all pizzas are half price 😏
I keep coming back to this place! They have amazing cocktails and pizza deals for those who enjoy to save a buck or two. The staff is supper friendly this making their service 10/10. It’s also a good place to unwind and let go as the ambiance just carries that feel.
I had the Pizza and the lime milkshake. I really did enjoy the pizza with bacon, it's the thinnest pizza base I have seen.
Some food is really affordable for price. The lime milkshake taste like amasi with sugar,I didn't like it at all. It has a great ambience and the music that was being played was great.
I went there on a Friday. The food and margaritas were great. I just wish the music was better when they decided to turn it into a dance floor. But otherwise it was great.
Had the delicious Chicken & Broccoli Pasta. At first I was mesmerized by the amazing green colour of the dish and even more mesmerized by its amazing smell! The dish was creamy, delicious and filling! The service was great, with an amazing vibe!
The food is absolutely delicious, no matter what you order (except for the fries). Their veggies are super good, and so are their burgers. Delicious cocktails and great service.
Whenever I'm in Observatory and need a quick, yet fulfilling meal, I opt for Obz Cafe. Of all the restaurants on Lower Main, it comes top. Their half priced pizzas on Tuesdays and Thursdays are more than you could ever ask for. The alcohol concentration in the cocktails is just right. I remember for one week straight, I ordered the bacon and mushroom pizza. It's just to die for.
Had a fantastic time here on Friday night. Really great vibe and awesome food accompanied with friendly service. Most of us had the burgers which, I have to say, are superior to Jerry's. Much thicker and more tender patties. The pizzas are fantastic here also. And try the margaritas! Best in Cape Town!
Really great burgers (fantastic basting) and ultra thin base pizzas - the 4 topping pizza sliders are a sweet deal! Will definitely be back for more
Obz Cafe has a satisfying selection of food at reasonable prices. Their burgers are fantastic. The restaurant has a casual, lively atmosphere that is evident but not intrusive. The service can be a little bit lacking at times, but overall it is a worthy to be made a regular eating spot.
This is truly one of those places in Obz that you have to visit. One of the best restaurants around here. Very beautiful place, spacious too. Perfect for after work/varsity drinks and food. The food is reasonably priced and it takes really good. They play good music and the service is great too. Make sure to make it in time for their happy hour.
Ohhh, where do I begin?? Firstly, the cafe has a modern in the woods cabincto it. My way, of saying it is cosy. The waiter was not only friendly but funny as well. My order didn't take long at all! My God, this place is extraordinary! You don't feel like you are in a cafe because it is so 'homey' The pizza had a very thin base, but it was big which kinda made up for it. Their strawberry milkshake is to die for and I would recommend going there late afternoon or in the early evening.
What a great experience I had at Obz Cafe. Jason our waiter was attentive, had nice manners and made wonderful recommendations. The service was wonderful and our food was whipped out really fast.
The nachos were delicious and my partner had a wonderful burger called the Big Kahona.
First time visiting this little spot. I really liked the warm feeling of this cozy little cafe/restaurant/pub. The exposed brickwork, grey material chairs, warm wood and industrial lighting give a great setting so sit and relax.
We decided to try the cheese burger which I really enjoyed. I especially liked the basting and the seasoning of the patty and it was juicy. The onion rings great and the tempura batter gives a wonderful crisp. I liked that that tempura batter is also seasoned giving a nice flavour to the onion rings. The pizza sliders where a bit of a let down as the crust was more like a wrap than a crispy thin base pizza. Lime milkshake needs more lime to make the flavour pop and the coffee is decent.
I would come back and investigate another burger.
The second time I order this amazing prawn and avo salad. Really impressed with their food and with ordering online. The portions are quite large and the seasoning is amazing.

Went for the first time last week Sunday, I had awesome service from Jack, I enjoyed the pizza as an entertainer user, I ordered pulled pork and the fire club (was not as hot as advertised) but he layout design was comfortable to me, not only of the venue but the pizzas itself, definitely will return without a doubt
Obz Cafe is definitely one of the more sophisticated cafes in observatory, I don't think I've ever been here when it wasn't busy it's cosy and the menu offers a variety of food from pastas to pizza they've got it all affordably so too. I settled for the pork ribs, which were delicious and tender the chips however were dry. The service isn't particularly amazing but It's sufficient.
Everybody who has travelled to or lived in Cape Town will have some sort of opinion about Observatory. Some might say Obs is the ‘student highlife’, some call it arty, and some just call it downright dodgy. Like so many other areas in Cape Town, though, I think Obs is experiencing a little re-vamp. Or at least that’s what I experienced when I visited Obs last week to try the re-vamped Obz Cafe!
Been wanting to go there for a while just haven't found the time. Made an order on uber eats of ribs and prego wings. The ribs were a great combination of sweet and savoury but lacked a bit of salt. None the less the whole meal was good with little fault.
Loved the food, without doubt the best in the area (and further afield). Cocktails are amazing. Waiter needs customer service training (the guy that looks like a thinner version of Romesh Ranganathan ) very standoffish. Ok, we're used to American service but just basic manners would help. I was employed as wine waiter during my student days and went out of my way to make ALL customers feel more than welcome. Hope this guy is able to up his game.
Loved Obz cafe, especially since they have a cocktail happy hour- variety of delicious cocktails available and the food was also great. I had a calamari starter which was more than enough to have as a main. The burgers looked amazing so will have to go back for that.
Phenomenal food, friendly service, wonderful vibey atmosphere. Highly recommend this venue for dinner and drinks on any occasion. We will definitely be back regularly.
Obz Café is always a favourite whenever we’re in Observatory and this time was no different. We visited for a light dinner and left very happy. I had the plain beef burger which was possibly the best burger I’ve ever eaten. Lisa ordered the grilled calamari and when it came it was very gritty – clearly they hadn’t been rinsed properly. The manager very efficiently sorted it out (even saying he would rinse the next portion himself to make sure) and also gave us a tasty cocktail on the house to apologise. Accidents happen in restaurants and his response was textbook-perfect as to how to fix the problem. Well done and we’ll be back.
My friends suggested this place for a long needed catch up session. The vibe and decor is really really good. I spent half the night admiring the place! The food is cheap and the portions are great! I had the Guava + Rosewater Cosmo as I'm a fan of interesting mixes regarding cocktails. This was such a great cocktail that I had two of them! I had the chicken burger and the fries were really great. Even my friend who wasn't eating, ordered fries for herself. The chicken burger had a generous helping of avocado which is always great and the chicken was moist and seasoned to perfection. As it was a summer night the vibe from outside carried into the restaurant. Will definitely visit again.
The food I have had so far has not disappointed me , I felt it was value for money . The service and the ambience is nice and cozy . not disappointing.
I absolutely love Obz Cafe! The food is always delicious and the staff is lovely and service is good. The vibe is great for a celebration with friends or dinner with family. The pizzas and burgers and world class and the cocktails are inventive and unique. Come hungry and don't leave without trying the Sumac calamari!!
This place is legendary if you find yourself in Obz.
Their menu is awesone, offering a vast array of choices..... pretty much something for everyone and it's all great! The standard, quality and service are all up to scratch and the people walking by are very eclectic and entertaining.... to say the least.
I recently visited Obz Cafe on a whim and was pleasantly surprised by the cozy atmosphere and vibrant décor. Although, on this particular occasion only I hope, the chicken we had ordered was topped with onions that were burnt to a crisp rather than simply caramelized. Even so, the bitter taste in my mouth didn't ruin the evening and with incredibly vibrant staff, a brilliant selection of music and the tastiest fried banana milkshake on offer, Obz Cafe is definitely a great place to unwind after a long week. 👍
Enjoy obz cafe's pizza's and milkshakes. They get rather busy so it's always good to make a booking. The last visit was awhile ago but I remember enjoying their margarita and four seasons. The service is a little slow but friendly.
Looking at the menu now makes me very exited to try out their jerk chicken pizza and sriratcha fire club.
When things don't work out according to plan, one sometimes stumbles upon some real gems. We wanted to have ribs at Sticky Fingers, but it seems the Observatory branch has closed. Because we liked the area's vibe, we decided to eat at Obz Cafe instead. Besides feeling like the oldest ones in the crowd, the loud and laughing cross-section of hip Capetonian students made us feel right at home. A table was quickly cleared for us and our friendly, efficient waitress catered for our needs effortlessly. She immediately offered an alternative when the draught beer seemed slightly flat and made sure we never felt neglected even though it was a busy night.
When we asked what she'd recommend from the menu, her enthusiastic description of the burger special ("A pure beef pattie topped with bacon and caramelised onions") convinced three of us to order the appropriately named Crunchie Munchie. The fourth member of our group opted for the Chichen Burger that she said was the best she'd EVER had (chicken was well cooked, brown, crispy outer and tasty, juicy inner).
The dessert, Ice Cream with Bar One Sherry Sauce, was ok (too much ice cream, sauce too runny for my liking).
When we saw the thin-based pizzas served at a table close to us, they looked so good, we actually discussed ordering one to share as an after-dinner snack! Next time.
All in all we were so pleasantly surprised that we'll certainly consider leaving the comfort of our 'hood to party with the student crowd again in the near future. It's an ideal way to pretend that we're young and carefree again!
Great food, great atmosphere even though they were out of calamari the night we were there we still had an amazing meal!
#happycustomers #familymeal #fulltummys
What a great restaurant with good service. I had a chicken burger which was yummy and had a very generous portion of avocado. We could all sit in a nice booth and the restaurant was busy and vibey. I'd go back :)
Wow! Had such a great time here with friends. Good service and a nice, chilled vibe. The chicken burgers are highly recommended by three of us. Would definitely come back. Charné

The overall experience at Obz Cafe was very pleasant , food had a nice twist and provided a nice surprise. The service was fast and efficient with a few mistakes around drink orders. I had the deconstruscted Philly Chicken that was delicious and reasonably sized.
Had an awesome time at this lovely restaurant. Best pizza i've had in a very long time! Great place to take your partner and have some bonding time. Will definitely be back again
Great Great Vibe. Waiters are friendly and attentive. Really enjoyed having a relaxed dinner there. And the pizza is awesome. Keep up the good work guys.
Got to love a good restaurant in the vibey student haven of Obs. Albeit a bit pricey, the food never disappoints and always serves to reward a hard week's work at varsity. Would highly recommend their dessert's and shakes too.
So a few friends and I find ourselves wondering observatory, hungry and in serious need of a little boozy pick me up that will house us comfortably considering we were 7. And most of the places were closed on lower main, most except Obz cafe that open their doors for us a few minutes early. The place had an air of elegance and class with top notch service where your wine was brought to you in a bucket of ice and had all your needs attended you by an attentive waiter. With such a great variety of meals to chose from. We had the Mexican fiesta pizza: beef, chipotle, jalapeño peppers and sour cream. And a Hawaiian pizza as well as the jerk chicken🍗🍕. To help down everything we chased it down with two bottles of Chardonnay and a side of fries🍟. So money wise we all of This made us each part with R70, so a whopping R450, but definitely worth it. The music was cool enough to allow for conversation and the waiter was attentive and didn't mind a loud bunch of students as customers. Really enjoyed myself and can see myself coming back.
Walked in for an afternoon lunch a few weeks back. Service was fine and the pizzas were tasty. Visited again with a friend to just sit outside and have a drink a while later. Waiters were very friendly and attentive.
Absolutely loved the ambiance! I had the lamb kofta pasta... very tasty. Service was great. Waiters were very nice and quick to help. Cannot wait to go back and try more food on the menu
Really enjoy the food here but the service can be a little bit slow. The waiters are very friendly though. Definitely would recommend the Philly Chicken or the pizzas! The Original Pillard (a chicken dish) was tasty, but was a little too salty for me. We were charged R35 corkage for the wine we brought with us. All in all, a lovely lunch-time spot.
Why did you change the menu?! The mushroom burger was my favourite ... enjoy the vibe and sercice. But always there for the burger. The service is warm.
The newly designed Obz Cafe is great for a formal yet informal treat. Their menu is divine and there is something for everyone. I love their oxtail and thin based pizza. I highly recommend their Pulled Pork Pizza. Ask the barman for his special cocktail...yummy
I went here before the renovation and after and even though they changed their menu somewhat I wasn't disappointed. I usually go for one of their pizza's but they weren't serving the one I wanted anymore. I settled for a lamb burger and was not let down! I have had better before but only just! Our waiter was a trainee and not great with English and therefore got our wine order wrong. Not a big problem as it was nice but it added quite a few more Rands to our bill at the end. The manager was more than happy to correct it for us but we insisted it was ok.
Oh hot damn, what a burger. We chose this spot specifically for their burger menu and although when we arrived they had actually changed the menu (limiting it to three burger options) it was still one of the best I've had in Cape Town. I had the lamb and it was perfect. Go there for a chilled vibe and great service.
GREAT atmosphere! Would definitely recommend if you're trying to go out for a nice dinner and want to dress up a bit. The service was great for my party of 6 people. I got their sauvignon blanc (it was good--nothing extraordinary) paired with their grilled calamari. Their calamari tasted fresh but a tad bit on the chewy side so just be aware of that if you're thinking about ordering it!
Obz Cafe has a great ambiance and a decent menu. A cozy spot to decompress after work. Craft draughts on tap, if that's your thing. The service is rather slow, distant even, although that might just be the next thing in Cape Town and we didn't get the memo. The food's good though, if a touch pricey. It's bound to be a fun kick-off spot with the right company!
I was told to try this cafe by one of my good friends and I am so happy that I did. The pizza I had (with smoked salmon) and the Philly chicken were both delicious! Will definitely be back to try more of the items on their menu soon :)
A place to visit 100 times in one lifetime! The small plates are affordable and seriously amazing. Affordable, attention to detail, relaxed and ..... Let me confess: I went for a coffee and ended up with porcini, polenta (delicious) and a fine glass of wine.
They have a few selected food delicacies that are mouthwatering but some are a miss. Amazing service very fast and polite. It's reasonably priced as well. It's a great place to catch up with friends but only if it's not crowded.
Dr blue burger 🍔 was delicious 😋 I loved it with a beer 🍺😄
The service was a little bit slow, they only had one waiter and it was a busy day.
But the place was neat and welcoming. 🥰The vibe is so good, nice music and lovely live view outside the window.💃💃
Bought take away coffees early on a Sunday so the venue wasn't busy at all to give a fair rating regarding atmosphere. We were attended to as soon as we walked through the door & the staff were friendly & courteous. Definitely an Observatory icon.
It's a lovely vibe place especially during the week. I ordered a pizza and it was delicious. We had to ask the waitress for attention because she would just disappear and we wanted to order more. But I would definitely come back again.
Service was okay. The food was good also. It's nothing special. We just went for a quick lunch. The staff were friendly. It's on Lower Main Road so expect loud motorbikes and cars etc. The aesthetic is also very nice.
I was reluctant to give Obz Cafe a review.
Firstly we had a booking scheduled at 9:30am, but the store only opened at 10am.
I was on the verge of rescheduling but decided to stick it out an extra 10min.
Once we were seated it didn't take long for our breakfast and coffee to come. The meal and coffee was really nice especially the mushrooms and Sasuage. In the end it was worth the wait.
The waiter came up to us before we left and apologized for the inconvenience and the long wait. It was their fault but I didn't appreciate that someone took ownership.
The staff are polite and happy. I will defs be going back in the future.
Great food, great specials, great vibe. Unfortunately, on both occasions - the evening was met with an unpleasant dose of attitude from the waiters. Easily rectifiable with the right manager (who could not be found). Didn't let it bother us too much and enjoyed the burgers and the breakfast on separate occassions. Parking can be a bit of an obstacle, but that applies to all the restaurants in the area. There was also sport that weekend, with everyone watching the Springboks in the local bars and restaurants the one night. Had the blue cheese burger, which my wife & I both enjoyed.
Cosy atmosphere, staff were friendly and welcoming short visit but very pleasant, gourmet burgers were tasty , Dr Blue - highly recommend this one for the cheese lovers
Went last night was a great vibe meat platter was fresh and delicious our waiter was the guy with dreadlocks unfortunately forgot his name but he was very friendly definitely coming back again
Staff is friendly and nice 😊 but the pizza wasn’t that great, could barely taste the chicken and mayo on the pizza but their milkshakes were 😍😍
