Had the rib special on Tuesday , buy one get one free. Good value for money! And the ribs were delicious the meat just fell off the bones. The service was 👍🏼.
Stopped in recently for a quite bite before going to watch the Rugby at Newlands. Really great vibe and friendly staff, and the food was really great too (had a delicious bacon and cheese burger) though I felt the steaks could be better.
Nonetheless, a great way to enjoy a sunny Saturday afternoon..

The Slug and Lettuce is a great little spot in Newlands for a drink and some tasty food. The service generally friendly. The menu doesn't have a huge vegetarian selection but there are standard go to options.
Most recently we had pizza and chicken strips. It was all enjoyable. The pizza comes thin and crispy which is how we enjoy it. The burgers are also pretty good. They have a couple of weekday specials on pizza and pasta which are also worthwhile.
Lovely pub with a river view. Friendly service and a good range of food for a pub. Definitely the pub of choice in Newlands. Better location and atmosphere than the Toad and Josephine.

Lazy and pleasant Sunday afternoon spent at the local Slug.They have all burgers on the menu for only R65 Sundays only (With a generous portion of chips and slaw). It's a pity they only have a choice of 5 types of pizza it's somewhat limiting.
A great local pub to visit with good burgers and pizzas with a festive vibe especially around sports fixtures. There are better eating experiences in the area however it's a great place to hang out with a group of friends and have a decent meal

Slug and lettuce has a very chilled out vibe. It's also close to home which is a plus. Usually go for their breakfast or chicken burger which are both good. The service is good, can be a little slow from time to time however a great spot which has a variety of foods and drinks to offer.
Popped in for drinks en route to the rugby, this popular spot is well-situated. As it was a nice day we sat outside, and it was hards to imagine we were on Main Road. Keen to go back for a meal.and more extensive visit. Have subsequently tried some of their starters (also pre-rugby), tasty and quickly served!
I paid the Slug and Lettuce a visit once when I went in search of ice cream, and there was nobody open at the late hour. The kitchen was just about to close, but the staff were friendly and accommodating. I only had the ice cream sundae, but I could quickly see why people like to gather and hang out here.
Location is convenient, firstly, because it's right near to all the sports fields. Secondly, it's got the typical pub style, but with a few cosy finishing touches. People here are homely and welcoming. I didn't get around to trying out the food, but I don't mind going back for something when the opportunity arises!
The pizzas here are very good and they do nice brownies. I think it's very cool how they give the customers popcorn to snack on while they wait for their food.
This is one of my favorite Slug and Lettuce locations! The outdoor patio is lovely, located just next to a river and surrounded by trees. The happy hour specials are pretty good and the food is always on point.
Any Slug & Lettuce you go to will always have a fantastic vibe! The Newlands one is great as it has a cute little outside section under the trees. You do end up with a few leaves in your drinks and hair but on a good day it is worth it. This time I had their bacon and cheese burger. It comes with chips and delicious onion rings. The bun isn't the greatest but everything else was perfect.
One of my favourite places to go for a late lunch or dinner. I love the extra element of a bowl of popcorn you receive when you arrive to nibble on. Service has always been efficient and friendly. Absolutely love their pizzas. Would absolutely recommend Slug and Lettuce for a catch up spot
Pleasant sitting outside, friendly waiter and a juicy chicken burger with peri-peri sauce. Not great but not bad..sauce tasted out of a bottle and chips were a bit cold.

Great informal place for a great square pizza. Slug is always very lively and vibey with great service. They have added an outdoor deck area overlooking the liesbeek river.
Have been coming to Slug & Lettuce in Newlands ever since it opened. Never had a bad meal and never had bad service. Delicious burgers, awesome pizzas, great wine. Will always be a favourite haunt!
Nice spot for a catch up with friends. More of a family restaurant by day, student by weekend. The food is tasty and the service is always good. I generally have a pizza, but to be honest, all of the food looks nice and tasty. It is also a nice spot for a weekend breakfast.
Went in for lunch, relaxed atmosphere with pleasant decor sitting on the main street in Newlands across from the brewery. Food was surprisingly tasty, the blue cheese and bacon salad was very pleasant without being overpowering while the burger was juicy and exploded with flavour. The only issue was that the waiting staff were very inattentive and I had to ask for the bill on 3 occasions before it finally came. So beware if you're in a rush.

This was a quick in and out for a few drinks. The place was pretty busy on a Friday afternoon but managed to get 1 or 2 drinks in, but didn't manage to eat. Vibe is great and the complimentary bar snacks add a fantastic touch. Will be back for a meal one day

What a name! But this place has great food.. Love the hearty burgers and French fries, but everything we have eaten has been really good . The service as well.. And the relaxed vibe make a winning combo for a great night out!
DAYAM! This place is too fab. With a new wooden deck built out over the newlands canal, you can sit and enjoy a beer and a whopper of a burger for a decent price. I have tried nearly everything on the menu and can truly say that everything is Delish! To top it off, the staff are incredibly friendly and chatty and they serve unlimited popcorn - what a win!
Homely, wholesome and happy! Slug and Lettuce has great food that is tastey and unpretentious coupled with a warm vibe! But don't let that 'family feel' fool you... it is always open and up for a good time! Late night Saturday shenanagians at the Slug are a must try! There definitely could be a one of two Stormer's players lurking around the bar. It's also the place to be when nothing else is open: Sundays, public holidays, late/early morning sports matches.... Christmas -they're OPEN!!!
The slug in Newlands is one of our top catch up spots in the Southern Suburbs! It's always got a great vibe and the new outside "garden" section is a winner for summer days.
We popped in for a little girly catch up session last night and as usual, it was buzzing! The outside area was closed off with heaters to keep us warm and bowls of fresh popcorn were delivered to each table -love that they do this! It's the little things that stick in my mind and keep me coming back.
It's a comfortable and laid back spot that serves up delicious pizza and wine. Prices are good and service is friendly.

There is such a good vibe here before a rugby game kicks off at newlands stadium across the road, what a great place to get your pregame on! The food is nice and I can’t quite remember which pasta I had I do know that I enjoyed it. We had a foreign waiter who was very nice but not there a whole lot. Luckily it’s not a big place so calling someone over was not a problem.
Nice, bit of a student hangout though. Can be a bit noisy for a dinner. The food is great and very good value for money. I've had the hamburger and draught beer a few times and it's always good. I like that I can watch the sport and the restaurant is comfortable and spacious.

Live very close to the Slug and have been here many many times. The food had always been great and it's the perfect place for an ice cold beer with some mates. Their Sunday burger special is fantastic, R58 for any of their burgers, of which there are a few delicious options. Always end up here after Stormers/WP games at Newlands. Always a pleasure, although to be fair, I may not be the best judge at the time of the night. Atmosphere is always electric, full of fans. A place where you can plug into the mood surrounding the team - a lot of amateur pundits and 'coaches' ready to share their views. Many gof the team hang out there, but it is really Scarras home, with a cocktail or two named after him.

This is one of my favourite places in Cape Town. I'm a regular at the Newlands branch, but I've been to a few others and they are all great! The food is all good, and I love the popcorn snacks! The house wine is great, too.
We visit Slug pretty much once a week (usually on a Sunday for their R58 burger special) and the food is always good. I love that you get hot buttery popcorn as a free table snack, and the wine glasses are HUGE. (It helps that we can walk home...) The interior is cosy, the manager is always around to chat and the live music evenings are super chilled out and fun. What more could you want from a local spot?
Over the past year, I have become a regular at the Slug and Lettuce Newlands. Their pizzas are out of this world and if you fancy a treat order the Soprano Singer (like I did tonight) which comes with: Mozzarella, Fig, Bacon and Blue Cheese. An amazing menu and a great atmosphere and friendly staff. Happy hour specials during the world cup on most draughts and selected cocktails. Always a good vibe!
Breakfast and Pizzas are stuff of legend. Hollandaise and breads make not banting completely worth it. I might have a bit of an addiction. You might spot a rugby player or two there as well

BEST TEQUILA SUNRISE IN CAPE TOWN. Was super chuffed. Had such a boring bland cocktail round the block then came to slug and lettuce not expecting much but it was absolutely delicious for HALF the price i paid at the other place. Lady who served us was a darling and food was good. Great value for money, highly recommend & will definitely be back

Watched the Manchester derby there. Positive vibes everywhere. Great to enjoy a game of football with rival fans at a calm location.
May need a couple of extra chairs when it gets packed. Could do with a few gas heaters outside when winter arrives. Perfect place to have a good drink with the lads though. Enjoyed it
Great local bar with drink and food specials on different nights. The venue has a good outside deck overlooking the river and most importantly they serve the coldest beer on tap.
Great food, great service. Separate breakfast and lunch menus. Rugby on TV taken seriously both inside and in the smoking area outside. Not a lot of kids; no raucous kids. One star lost because wi-fi a bit pap inside and nonexistent outside.

I actually read a review about this establishment a couple of months ago. I made a mental note of places to go to. When my neighbour wanted to watch the game I suggested this place. We watched two of the world cup rugby matches there. I couldn't watch the final as I was working, but my heart was there.
My experience:
I loved the atmosphere. I am sure it would have been off the charts when the Bokke won.
I loved our waitress. I loved the chicken strips and chicken schnitzel. Their chips are amazing. The host is amusing. I asked him if he had a haircut, since the last time. He said he did some "load shedding". Vrek funny!!
I can't stop thinking about the schnitzel on creamy mashed potatoes, roast veg, and dreamy mushroom sauce. Mmmm I wish I could have that every day of the week!!

They make a cocktail that tastes like the black sweet in fruity sweet packs. Mmmm.
I do wish they had something sweet on the menu to round things off, like a pudding or dessert.
