Review Bombay Chilli Indian Bistro - Muizenberg

Dear Manu I want to thank you so very much for your large part in making my 70th celebration wonderful . Your organization flowed to perfection - your food as great as always - your servers could not have been better- I was able to relax and focus on my own tasks - and I received feedback on how impressed my guests were. THANK YOU !

Excellent food and friendly staff and service. The curries are great - not too hot in medium - as is the naan bread. Good value and sizeable portion.

The best curry joint in CT! I eat their every week without fail and have never had a disappointing meal. The butter chicken and kasturi are always a good option.

Enjoyed the restaurant, staff friendly and nice . We were a party of 16 , food was served on time no waiting.

Very interesting little restaurant in Muizenberg with a unique, cosy atmosphere. The lovely aromas promising delicious food meets you as you enter. The owner is a friendly and interesting man, chatted to us about his life & travels over the world while we waited for our food(take out). Food was phenomenal & mouthwatering delicious! We will definitely be going back for a full sit-down experience.

Went for dinner this evening. Entourage not great, and service quite basic. Feels as it looks. HOWEVER the food is fabulous. Had Samosas to start, excellent well filled and spiced. Lamb Madras with Pakora rice, Lamb Biriyani, garlic NAN.... Super, rice was perfect, Curry not oily (as suggested in other reviews) excellent spice, very aromatic. Rounded off with Dom Pedros. Absolutely worth a visit.

We come here regularly for authentic Indian food and are never disappointed. This is also the only place in Cape Town who sells my favourite naan bread.... Peshwari naan.

OMG. Never been here before; how did I miss it? Family over from the States and they wanted curry. We found Bombay Chilli and went… Flip!!! Their curries are out of this World. Would definitely recommend to anyone who loves curry; we’ll be back.

I just had the best lamb biryani ever. I cannot describe the taste except to say the bar has been set very high. The next best does not come close

Very friendly staff. Lovely freshly prepared Indian dishes.

Really delicious! I always enjoy my meal here. I'm not into very hot and spicy so glad that you can order a medium hot option. Their service is pleasant, your food comes relatively quickly. However due to Covid, the restaurant is never that full.

The best curry I have ever eaten! We went to Bombay Chilli in Muizenberg on a cold rainy evening, craving a warm curry and Bombay Chilli exceeded expectations. The restaurant looks very unassuming on the outside but, upon entry, the owner, Manu, was very friendly and helpful. So glad I found this gem.

I love this place. Unassuming little treasure. Curries are delicious and sides are scrumptious. One of my favourite eating out experiences. A must if you like indian cuisine

After a day of sightseeing we decided to visit this place. We ordered samoosas and masala tea, samoosas weren't not that great and had to ask a few people just to get to a glass of tap water but that's not a issue. After that a big delay to order mains and we were told kitchen is closing and we accepted to wait for two meals we ordered. After a while later the waiter comes to our table and chucks the one meal on our table in a takeaway when two meals were ordered at a sit down restaurant where we were seated. Highly disappointed with food and service we got here.

It wasn't a very good experience. They don't have enough staff for service. Food was okay... but their service is more like punishment to them as well as for us.
Alphabet Soup
Their curry is good but their coconut naan and service is the only reason to score above 3. There isn't much choice in Muizenburg when it comes to food so I have tried everything on their menu and can honestly say that it's all standard... EXCEPT THE NAAN, which will have you wondering why no-one else is serving this.

Interesting restaurant, nice dishes. Service is good a little cold in winter inside, dress warmly. Very romantic environment. no reservation required

This place is great! Awesome staff, delicious food and an excellent variety of vegetarian options. They also sell the lakeside pale ale draught on tap for an affordable price. <br/><br/>The ambiance is cosy with dark red lighting and delicious smells of spices coming from the kitchen. <br/><br/>Definitely worth a visit.

We were going to have our May lunch at the Bombay Chilli. When we arrived at 12:15 we were informed that they had a problem and that we should comeback at 14:00 !!! When we asked why they had not phoned us they could not give an answer other than tell us thàt they have a problem.<br/>So you guessed correctly - the Bombay Chilli is a restaurant that we will not visit again

Pathetic Service, they are not taking care of customer properly, long waiting time for taking order and serve, it is better to avoid this hotel

The only Indian restaurant in Muizenberg I could find on Zomato. Headed over to this place with my parents and husband based on the reviews on Zomato and totally regretted my decision of choosing this place. The food was bland and was no where close to Indian Cuisine. The service was pretty slow and staff were inattentive.<br/><br/>Nothing much to expect from the decor and from where we sat we could see the kitchen and didn't look clean.<br/><br/>We ordered the Vegetable Pakoras, Chicken Tikka for the entrees and for the main course we ordered Tandoori Roti's, a portion of Chicken Tikka Masala and Dal Tadka. The complimentary Papad's were way too oily and no chutney's was served along with the papad. Indian cuisine without a chutney is usually considered bland and tasteless. The Chicken Tikka was tolerable but the chicken was chewy. The veg pakoras were mediocre. The Tandoori rotis were under-cooked and tasted awful. <br/>The Tadka dal was mild. The Chicken Tikka was pathetic and the chicken was way too chewy and cold. Their service was slow. The waiter added an extra charge for the water bottle which we hadn't ordered and later apologized for the recklessness. <br/><br/>Overall, a total waste of money and time.

I'd really like to give Bombay Chilli a 4/5 - the food is delicious! But they're missing a certain flair in the service and atmosphere departments. The venue is a little gloomy, the toilets a bit grubby and stacked with supplies, and you can see into the less-than-attractive kitchen in several places. I'm not one to nitpick, but I noticed that all the tables were set differently, mostly with the knife and fork on the wrong sides, and none of the tables had napkins. These didn't arrive with our food either, and given that you're eating samosas and breads, you'd kinda like something to wipe your mits on. <br/><br/>We ordered potato samosas, which were yum, the aloo matar, aloo ghobi, an aloo paratha and a ghobi paratha. It was all super tasty! The aloo ghobi, in particular, had a really great smoky flavour, and was served with slivers of fresh ginger. The prices are good, and food arrives in good time, so it makes it very worth going, as long as you know that it's all about the food!

Ordered takeaways, the place wasn't busy at all. took a hour to make the order after losing the order and then having an attitude to sort it out

This place was chock a block every evening, so we were so happy to spot a table for early supper. Decor is never a reason for good food, so don't be put off by the lack of it here, either. Though it was a quiet time of the day and the staff were obviously preparing for the NYE party, we were served attentively and courteously. <br/><br/>The Indian Paneer starter was fresh and hot and filled a gap while we waited for our mains. I opted for the Chicken and Prawn Vindaloo (with a nice spicy bite) and G had Lamb Madras Curry on the waitress' recommendation (such a wonderful blend of fragrant flavours). Naan bread, papadums and yogurt raita completed a memorable meal.

What a great place to go, staff members are friendly, ambiance is great,  portions are huuuuge, and the food is delicious.  We first tried them as a take-away, and soon figured out that sitting right there and shooting the breeze with staff, is more fun!  Exquisite food.  Excellent attention to the nuances of the spices.  Can't fault them!  Thanks guys.  You ROCK.

So I was on my way home from the Temple, when I needed 'food,' and with 'food' I mean a nice curry. So I'm a bit spoilt for choice in beautiful Cape Town, when it comes to authentic Indian cuisine. Muizenberg won the lot and off to Bombay Chilli I spat. You know, I have learned over the years, it's not just a 'colour' thing, Europeans looooove a nice curry as well. So my usual table was taken by a few students but I was content with the 'manager's table. Then, as always, what shall it be...Butter chicken, a Vindaloo, a Korma,...tough choice! Anyways, the mild & creamy Butterchicken won, with my good ol' favourite,...fragrant basmati rice and a cup of masala tea to compliment my 'once again pilgrimage.' Tough choice if you know, anything you order is made authentically and fresh, tasty with just enough bite according to your level of "resistance!" Beautiful Butterchicken...next time I'll go through the menu & end up where I always end up...'Tough choice.' My Indian people may brag...and lest' I forget; did you know masala tea was discovered with me in mind?...

This restaurant never disappoints. Food is delicious, portions are large, prices are great! Service is mediocre and friendly. I always look forward to visiting and enjoying their Chilli bite starters with Butter chicken as a main.

Missing some final touches before getting that 5/5, however don't get me wrong, we're definitely going back soon for more.<br/><br/>Muizenberg has all these little upcoming gems and Bombay Chilli fits in perfectly. The food was delicious and the staff were always on time and perfectly polite. If you want a good curry, bombay chilli is the local spot.<br/><br/>If you enjoy hot currie, don't be shy as the mild currie I had, was just that. Next time I will go for the hot one.<br/><br/>About those final touches: Some music in the back ground to add to the beautiful atmosphere, an extra few pieces of meat in the lamb currie would better suit the price tag and while the glasses were not dirty, they did have smudges on them. Nothing was an absolute deal breaker, however a few points taken off the top.<br/><br/>In all honesty this little restaurant deserved a 4, however they have one dessert on the menu that we did not enjoy. We love desserts and this small factor could stop us from visiting bombay chilli again. A simple vanilla ice cream would do the job and we really hope they change this as the Plumstead branch has an option of 3 deserts.<br/>

I frequent this little family owned restaurant very often .The curries are good .... butter chicken, being my favourite:-)<br/><br/>If you're ever in the Muiz, this is a must try.. <br/><br/><br/><br/>Fast forward 2 years later ... <br/>my opinion of this restaurant has changed a bit .. and I’ve needed to edit my post and rating .<br/>Food is still good and if you’re in the mood for curry ..<br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

Superb curries and really well priced. The rotis were delicious as well as the vegetarian dishes. We will definitely be going back in winter.

We live nearby and practically live on Bombay Chilli dishes. Paneer Makhani & Palak Paneer are fantastic! The lamb curry and butter chicken are also firm favourites. Love the place, the food and the people!

No pretense. Great, personal service, decent portions. Food very tasty, flavourful. Not a great place for a first date, but lovely for Sunday afternoon lunch with friends.

I've only been once but the food was absolutely stunning. Decor is basic but once that plate arrives little else matters. Brilliant food, affordable prices and less than 100 metres from Muizenberg Beach. Highly recommended.

My favorite Indian Restaurant ever. Good simple North Indian curry. Excellent service. Big portions. I have never left feeling disappointed and will continue going back as often as I can. Would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys good Indian food at a good price in a relaxed atmosphere.

Fantastic food. No pretense, a simple place with incredible Indian food. <br/><br/>My favourite Indian restaurant in Cape Town. I travel from camps bay just to eat here.

Delicious food with really good service. Medium curry turned out to be quite hot, so I would recommend medium. The food is reasonably priced for the quantities you get.

Heard a lot about this place and thought it was time to check it out. I went there on a sunday afternoon around lunch time. We parked opposite in the civic centre parking. The decor was okay. I think they could make it a lot better with some investment. Our waitress was really friendly. I enjoyed the chicken tikka massala. It was pretty good. I also tried the mango lassi which was okay. I'm not much of a lassi fan but was just trying it out anyway. I'll be back there to try some of their other food.

It's difficult to rate this restaurant. On the one hand it is the only authentic and decent curry place you can safely eat at in Cape Town. But on the flip side it's not as good as it likes and it's bordering on being too expensive. <br/><br/>The curries, breads, raitas and dhals are all tasty and some are even special. In particular: the chilli bites, prawn curries and lacha paratha stand out as dishes worth paying for. <br/><br/>Do enjoy if you're looking for a genuine Indian food experience (without the risk of dysentery) and are willing to pay decent restaurant rates. <br/><br/>(A bit of advice: steer clear of the samosas, they're vile.)

Admittedly I have ever never had a sit down dinner here, however we do order take aways a lot from Bombay Chilli. We've ordered a number of different meals and all of them have been top notch. The best curries we've found in the southern suburbs.

We found this place in Muizenberg by accident while driving by. <br/><br/>Was moderately busy for a Saturday afternoon. Service slow but attentive. Ordered Aloo Paratha starter, Paneer Makhni and Malai Kofta for mains. Standard fare, ticks all the boxes, but nothing memorable or worth a return visit. <br/><br/>Bill came to R290($28) for two people including drinks and tip. <br/>
