Staff really helpful and seafood amazing and value for money. View of the beach was great as well and will definitely be going back when in town
The staff are all very polite and helpful.
The portions are generous for the price and the atmosphere is really relaxing. Amazing view of the beach and sea.
Looking for more than just a Seaview? Then you just have to go to Live Bait in Muisenberg! The food is amazing and the service efficient and friendly!
Beautiful view of muizenberg beach. Friendly and energetic staff! Food was so delicous and very filling, great to have the option of sushi as well as sea food. Good decor and atmosphere.
Lovely experience. A definite must try for sushi lovers and seafood foodies. The seafood is amazing. I had the surf and turf, I was a little let down by the steak but overall the dish complimented each element on the plate perfectly.
It is a little bit pricey, that is the only downfall I would say however you won’t feel as if you wasted your money once you’ve had your food. I absolutely love the decor inside the restaurant- extremely instagrammable and I love the minimalist vibe the Muizenberg branch has going on! All in all, a wonderful seafood experience that won’t be forgotten.
Great place, quite smart! Amazing pasta and seafood of course and vegetarian options which were great as well.
Over looks muzinberg beach through the glass
Wonderful experience... Friendly service and excellent sushi, I was surprised that the restaurant wasn't even half full. The restaurant is also spacious and well decorated to fit the sea-food theme. Everything about this restaurant impressed me... Most especially the reasonable prices
Lovely airy laidback restaurant with beautiful seaview of falsebay.a perfect setting for a relaxing Friday lunch. My colleague had the fried hake and chips.2 generous portions of crispy battered hake proved to b a winner.I had the grilled calamari and chips- tender and delish. My sorbet dessert was the perfect end to a chilaxing afternoon.
Beautiful Vista of False Bay, what was once a run down apartment block this lovely neck of Cape Town has improved dramatically. The restaurant is very open, overlooking the beach. Food menu is seafood predominantly but fitting for the location. The sushi portions freshly made are generously sized, if you banting or trying to reduce starch..... well be prepared. Not too formal so locals seems to feel right at home.A visit worth your while
Best enjoyed in summer as the view is amazing from this stylish venue. Muizenberg and surrounds has really stepped up a notch with some really nice eateries.
Live Bait is arguably one of my wifes favourite venues. I like going there if i need to get my seafood fix as the linefish and calamari is fantastic.
Lovely food and a beautiful view, seems like one can’t go wrong with anything on the menu! We had delicious seafood pasta and the fresh line fish.. yum! Well presented with professional service. Philip Du Toit
The food and drinks were great, but quite pricey. It's a stunning restaurant with an amazing location. There's not a big variety on the menu available though.
A real gem in the heart of Muizenburg. The restaurant has amazing views of the beachfront and great service. The waiter explained the specials to us but in the end the whole fish caught my eye. The Mozambican peri peri sauce adds a kick to an already great fish. Will definitely be back!!!
Great place! Nice Sushi. Delicious fish cakes with homemade tartare sauce the main was yummy and the Creme Brulee was a 9.5 good waiter simple pleasures
Popped in for lunch due to the Entertainer and we were not disappointed.
The food was beyond delicious and the portion sizes were extremely generous. Definite value for money.
Our waitron, Tyler, was quick to serve us and ensure we were enjoying the experience. He was knowledgeable of the menus and specials and had every detail we needed.
The view is spectacular and is a must for anyone visiting the Cape who enjoys good, fresh seafood.
We will be returning for sure!
I really love coming here. The awesome view is reason enough, but the food and service are top notch as well.
Interesting but neat decor, and friendly, knowledgeable staff make me feel welcome here.
The food is lovely. From the fish and chips to the chef's specials, it is fresh and tasty but not greasy or heavy.
Always a good choice when you're in the mood for seafood.
Decided to pop into Live Bait for dinner last night with the entertainer - such a treat of an experience! First off let me just say, the setting is absolutely beautiful, they've done a really good job with the layout inside where you can see the sea no matter where you are seated and then the decor just makes you feel like you're in a holiday house right a long the beach front - seriously beautiful.
The boyfriend and I are started off with the calamari starter to share, prawn croquettes and the Caesar salad (as he says, the salad can tell you everything about a restaurant, as it's the 1 dish that is most commonly overlooked). The moment the salad arrived, we could see nothing was overlooked, the presentation was beautiful and tasted incredible! While I thought the calamari lacked slight seasoning, the texture was lovely and the croquettes will leave you feeling like you want more.
For mains I tried the hake and chips and my boyfriend tucked into the seafood pasta. The batter on the hake was crisp and tasty, the only let down was the chips as it was very soggy and oily. The seafood pasta was also a win where the creamy sauce was just enough to coat the pasta but not enough to overpower the seafood.
Service was very friendly and the waiter made every attempt to help us make an informed decision on the menu. Definitely was a pleasant way to spend the Sunday evening!
Great service. We were a large party and the staff were very accommodating. Our table ordered a variety of dishes. The garlic butter and peri peri prawns were delicious, chips nice and fluffy and their veg options was good too. Friends ordered battered and grilled calamari which they raved about. Another friend ordered the steak which was cooked well but lacked flavor. Great view and ambience. We used our Entertainer vouchers which were a win. We'd definitely go back. The fish looked amazing so that's on the wish list.
Absolutely love the stairs walking up to the main restaurant, it really sets the vibe for the rest of the day.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by the food, the creamy Chardonnay sauce with the yellow tale was a real highlight, with perfectly roasted vegetables. The only down side was that they over cooked the fish - quite sad! The sushi was super fresh, and the special on a Mon - Thurs is so worth it. Also the garlic sauce with calamari was one of the best ever!
The cocktails were fantastic, along with the awesome view.
Food here is fresh, flavorful and well priced. Views are gorgeous! Service was fast and friendly. Recommended visit. The sushi platter for two was a tad small, but delish nonetheless. The line fish was superb. We loved the tomato soup too, generous portion with two cheesy bruschetta for dunking.
I just popped in for a quick bite but will definitely be back.
Prawn Croquettes and Fish Goujons - perfectly cooked and served with "green sauce" and green tartar sauce respectively, definitely recommend trying them out!
Ordered Salmon Tanaka which was slightly underwhelming. The rice had too much of a vinegar taste and the avocados were still quite hard.
Bust still...I highly recommend checking them out.
Amazing food, amazing staff, amazing view!
We went here to celebrate my birthday but we did not book in advance, which was a mistake on our part. And obviously when we reached there, the place was overflowing with people out to enjoy their sunday. The staff however, upon understanding that it was my birthday, squeezed us in. We were just two people so it was easier, nevertheless I don't see why anyone else would hv bothered. The service was prompt and the waiters took good care of us. Cherry on the cake was the deliciousness of the food. I seldom write reviews, but this one just deserves the best I can. Left the place very happy and pretty full.
Needing a healthy dose of fresh sea air; we headed for Muizenberg on a sunny Sunday. The restaurant is located on the road behind the bathing boxes with an incredible sea front panoramic view. Cleverly situated on the first floor, the restaurant has a great advantage over the neighbouring eateries.
The bright, light interior and subtle beachy decor make you feel as though you have stepped into some far away island resort. The staff are imaccurately dressed, giving you a sense of precision and professionalism - characteristic of this group of restaurants.
We nibbled on a small garlic flat bread while we perused the menu. A variety of dips can be ordered with the flat bread. The menu boasted hummus, tzatsiki, skordalia (my favourite - and rarely seen on menus), taramasolata, marinated feta & olives. I selected skordalia but was told it shouldn't be on the menu because they never have it. Big disappointment.
For starters we ordered the Caesar salad and the prawn croquettes. The salad was good with one hardboiled egg, crispy bacon crumbs, 4 croutons and a good serving of percorino. The prawn croquettes were crispy on the outside and had a soft creamy centre although a bit light on the prawn content.
For mains we had the seafood pasta in a white wine, garlic and cream sauce. This was rich, flavourful and absolutely delicious with linguini prepared perfectly.
The battered & fried hake and chips was fresh and as expected. It came with a basil sauce so I asked for tartare as I explained to the waitress that I don't eat basil. I got tartare. That was green. When I asked as to the colour, I was told it had contained basil oil. I sent it back. I had expected better service (the waitress missed our empty glasses) and better knowledge of the menu form this establishment.
All in all, a good meal, lovely venue, beautiful view, we'll rounded menu.

Lovely place this...kinda unassuming when you walk up the stairs thinking it's small with a cute sea view. One is pleasantly surprised with the scale of the space, large windows taking advantage of the perfect view outside, furniture taking one back to Greece-- well done to the owners.
I was enthusiastically greeted by an energetic server who extolled excitedly about the daily specials (sorry for all the "E's"). I opted for a serving of salmon roses which was fresh and delicious. My mains was an awesome seafood linguine which was heartily enjoyed. Live Bait is right on my doorstep and has just become a favourite.
The view may be star of the show but today the food stole the limelight
My folks and I had lunch there on Saturday and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. We were warmly welcomed by the staff and manageress, and service was prompt and efficient. The runner also timed the clearing of dishes and empty glasses very well...
We shared creamy mussels and a rosemary and parmesan flatbread as a starter which were very tasty.
Our mains were:
Kingklip in a Chardonnay sauce (sublime) with mash - R110
Fried Calamari (tender and even better than the last time i had it) with chips - R95
300g sirloin which was beautifully medium as requested and served with chips - R140
They are on The Entertainer and a nice touch was the manageress noting my name on the app and using it a few times while seeing us off...
My only whinge would be that it's a bit chilly at the window tables near the overhead fans/extractors but overall I couldn't fault the experience and I will definitely return soon.
There is absolutely nothing I can fault this stunning restaurant on. There is ample parking and the restaurant itself has the most beautiful decor and view of the ocean! The waitrons as well as the manager were so friendly and sincere, and made the effort to make us feel completely at home... the love they have for the restaurant was so clear. We ordered the grilled hake, as well as the pan-fried prawns. The flavours were explosive and worked perfectly together! The portions were great as well, and the meals were presented beautifully. I can't wait to go back and would recommend this place to everyone - but be sure to make a reservation beforehand as it gets quite busy.
What a pleasant surprise! We decided to trek all the way from Claremont to Muizenberg for dinner at this eatery on a Monday night. It was worth the 20 min drive! Loved to ambiance, decor and breathtaking elevated view of the ocean. Our grilled calamari starter and fish goujons were amazing. Could have easily just had more of that. Fair pricing and service. A good alternative to the more pricey Harbour House option.
Before I had to return to work and get back in routine I really wanted to take a nice drive and enjoy lunch next to the beach, so Live Bait was the perfect choice.
For a starter my boyfriend and I shared the calamari which is a rather small portion, but seasoned to perfection and just tastes like more!! He had the seafood pasta for mains of which I had a bite after he couldn't stop raving about the garlic and white wine sauce. I had the line fish with spinach and pumpkin and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our waiter was funny and service overall good. Open, bright space offering plenty of sea views and an added bonus that they are on the Entertainer. Keen to try the Kalk Bay branch.
Live Bait is one of the swankiest, sexiest restaurants in Muizenberg. For a town that generally has pretty electic, hipster restaurants, this is a very refreshing change of pace.
The space is light, airy and open, with elements of nature being brought indoors. The view of the ocean is absolutely goooorrrgeous!
Beyond the beautiful setting, the food at Live Bait is also really on point. I shared sushi and calamari with a friend of mine; the sushi was really fresh and delicious, and I could easily have devoured another portion of the calamari right there and then.
I tried a virgin mojito too and it was super refreshing and very minty.
Live Bait is not the cheapest spot in Muiz, but it's well worth the money - great choice for a lunch date!
Was here earlier this week and had a
Fantastic meal. Absolutely awesome sauce for the mussel dish and really
Delicious hake👌🏼 service wasn't all too great but it's forgiven by the gorgeous location and food ⚡️
Certainly one of my favourite seafood restaurants in the Cape. From the creamy garlic mussels to the hake 'n chips and the pizza-oven baked silverfish, all have been outstanding. Add to this a lovely relaxed ambience, good service and the beautiful views over Surfer's Corner and False Bay, and you've got a perfect match! Will we be back? For sure!!
Another gem added to the Muizenberg beach front. The decor is beautiful, light and rustic, and the counter along the window is ideal with a great view. It's vibey and bustling, and the service is great. We started with the melon and feta salad which is fresh and tasty, and some of their garlic rosemary flat bread. For mains I had the calamari with roast veg, and my boyfriend had the mussels in white wine sauce - both were excellent. All this with a glass of Buiten Blanc, and you have the recipe for the perfect lunch :)
We went to Live Bait as a family with two teenagers for dinner
yesterday. I saw a couple of reviews and thought since the ratings are quite different to add my comments as well - hopefully to provide more objectivity. First of all we know the Live Bait in Kalk Bay for many years and a direct comparison would not be fair. Same name but different restaurants in multiple aspects. The parking was not a problem at all, although the beach was packed with people (New Year). The restaurant was quite busy, but we had a reservation - no problem we got our table at the window. We ordered starters: Greek Salat, Sardines and all came in time and in great quality. For our main the boys had a Sirloin and according to them great quality - we had Mussels in white wine sauce and also absolutely great. We ordered main portions of mussels but have been served eight each - for a main course unacceptable. Anyway we asked and have been confirmed that accidentally we were given the starter portion instead of the main course - no big deal for us as we were OK with the quantity of the starters anyway. In summary the restaurant is stylish, the location and view absolutely stunning, the food was excellent, the portions OK'ish, our boys happy, the prices adequate and the service great. We'll come again.
A very busy Muizenberg Beach led us into this little gem of a restaurant. I absolutely fell in love with the decor. We shared a couple of tapas. All the staff were so friendly and the food was amazing. Definitely try the flatbread with their dips.
5 out of 5 definitely. Heard only good things about Live Bait and they did not disappoint. Absolutely fantastic service- friendly waiters, hostesses and managers. Food was devine- we had sushi, prawns, mussels and croquettes and couldn't fault any of these meals in any way. Very reasonably priced. Definitely a restaurant I would recommend to anyone.
Not your typical sea food bits and pieces restuarant. The portions are amazingly filling. Had the silverfish with Mozambican peri-peri sauce. The atmosphere made for a great tranquil stare at the ocean at your fingertips. I enjoyed every moment not leaving out the always smiling staff greeting and seeing you off. Hats off to a wonderful day at the beach and food to add to the experience. Who can boast with muizenberg waves and seafood pairing.
I went to Live Bait for a staff party and was keen since I'd heard good things. The restaurant had a great vibe. The staff very helpful and the manager very willing and friendly. I had the mussels to start which were presented beautifully covered in a delicious creamy garlic sauce - I could've licked my bowl. For mains I had the Green Linguine. It was by far the best pasta I've ever had. The green beans and fresh leaves added some crunch amongst the well balanced sauce to pasta ratio. I recommend adding a drop of lemon to this dish. For dessert I had a crème brulee. The toffee sugar had a weird flavour to it which I did not enjoy but the custard below was not too sweet which made it perfect. Overall a great experience.
Been there tonight was a wonderful setting and great service the wife had a fantastic seafood pasta and myself line fish the starters os brilliant the only bad thing was the sauce which was thin a watery.

Went for lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Finding parking a nightmare. Well eventually we did find a spot.
Live Bait is upstairs with a beautiful view over Muizenberg beach. The decor is Mediterranean- lots of whites and blues. A good atmosphere.
The service at first was a bit patronizing perhaps because we were three and not big tables like most of the others. However in defense the waiter seemed to warm to use after we ordered a second bottle of Ken Forrester's Chenin blanc. Not a bad choice at R130.
For starters we had West Coast mussels served in a white wine garlic cream sauce. Sauce was superb as were mussels. The other starter was grilled calamari. This was accompanied by a garlic pecorino herb flat bread and a delicious green salad.
For mains we had the chefs " whole fish " of the day - angel fish. Fish was a bit dry and not all was consumed. Pity because it looked good.
The other mains were a selection of sushi - salmon roses salmon sashimi prawn rainbow rolls.
Sushi was really good.
All in all a very enjoyable afternoon.
Pity about the fish.
Really stunning place and cosy on a rainy day, can't wait to go back with beautiful weather. The food was simple and delicious- just the way I like it.
Gorgeous venue, tasty menu and very attentive wait staff. Previous reviews paint a very different picture to my experience which was nothing short of perfection. I attended the restaurant for a family dinner and the mezze along with a few beef skewers offered a wonderful sharing starter for the whole table. The prawn croquettes were just divine and I chose the Graham Beck pinotage to accompany our meals (Yum). I enjoyed the mussel main which offered a large portion in a lovely white wine sauce. I love this seafood restaurant and I'm definitely recommending it to all of my foodie friends.
Amazing restaurant with beautiful views!!
The food was superb the only done side was the inconsistent portions size, as a large group this was visible!!
The food was flavorful and the combinations were spot on!!
Perfect Sunday lunch spot!!!
With options in that area growing we decided to try out the new Live Bait as we have already been to the one in Kalk Bay. Safe to say we made the right choice. The only reason I never gave it a 5/5 is because we waited a bit on the food. Food was fantastic , service was good and setting was awesome. Great value for money and definitely worth a try. Suitable for couples and families looking for a nice place for supper I would say
Am I allowed to give a 10/5
This is right up there with my new favourite places. It's is so tastefully and elegantly decorated with glass walls that allow you to see the beach from two floors up. The waiters are friendly and efficient and the food super tasty and fresh.
This places makes my soul happy
Outstanding meal , portions sizes being perfect and picture perfect view :)their cream spinach and deep fried calamari is out of this world !! great ambiance and great service:)
Still on the learning curve with the service, but really delicious! And the decor is exquisite - no filters needed. The atmosphere is relaxed, with the dining novelty of an open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant and sushi making at the bar. The best part - it's well priced! 3 salmon roses for R39 kind of prices. When it comes to mains, you can go casual or fancy; hake and chips or line fish with Chardonnay sauce. And when you get to dessert, do be sure to order the cheesecake with cinnamon ice cream. To die for!
What a beautiful restaurant, timeless with a relaxed setting... Menu is simple and prices are very reasonable.. Food and service standard was absolutely amazing!!! Definitely will be back soon :-)
Beautiful location and fantastic, reasonably priced food and quick service. Good food selection on the menu. We are very happy with the evening. We will definitely be back.
We were on our way to have a bite to eat at Easy Tiger but found this beautiful new restaurant just above, overlooking the beautiful Surfers Corner. The dining experience was great, sushi was amazing, our mains were good as well. Dare I say that my grilled fish was a bit on the bland side, but the calamari was tasty. The food is all decently priced, and to top it off, the service was excellent which is a rare find these days. I'll definitely go back again!
What a great experience visiting Live Bait!
The food was excellent and everything was so tasty and well presented with perfect portions.
I had the mussel starter which was surprisingly big but perfect, and for mains I had 3 mezze's: small flat bread with tzatziki, spinach and feta croquettes and the prawn croquettes - absolutely delicious and perfectly cooked.
My fiance had grilled calamari for starters with a lemon butter which was delicious, and for mains he had the Hake and chips and a portion of the prawn croquettes(they were just that amazing!)
Will definitely go there again! :)
Location is everything for this restaurant, with out the beautiful settings I would give this a lower rating. The food is average food trying to be more. We got a seat right next to the window, allowing us to look out at the waves, very beautiful.(the window was not clean, not their fault being right on the sea). The waitress was friendly and informative, giving us all specials of the day. (No comments on the sushi as this was not tasted)
We went with 2 small children, they ordered from the children’s menu. This food was disappointing to say the least. They ordered calamari and chips. The chips were nice while the calamari was spiced in a weird way, this meant the children did not even get half way through their meal... before refusing to eat the rest as is was too complicated for their palate. This is not a child friendly restaurant. This is okay but then don’t have a children’s menu. I was sad to hear that a sea food restaurant does not have tata sauce, mainly when serving children calamari or fish.
My girlfriend and I had the calamari and chips, this was fried in a pan with many spices and herbs.... I was not a huge fan of the herbs and the way this was put together. The calamari however was cooked perfectly. My father had the mussels and though he said that were well cooked and delicious there was too little bread, which was solved when he asked for more and the friendly waitress brought some to us.
This was a good experience however not the best one I have had, with the location of this restaurant a part of me expected more. The view was beautiful. The food was well cooked. The staff was friendly. But sadly that is not all it takes to make this a 5 star restaurant.
Live Bait has lovely decor and relaxing background music with a spectacular view. It's open and light and airy.
Sadly for me there was no snoek on the menu, so I settled for hake and chips (R89) and was pleasantly surprised. I enjoyed the batter which was crisp and golden.
Everything on the menu looks great. There's a lovely variety of dishes to suit all tastes, including curry, pasta and sushi, and the prices are fair.
There was live entertainment when I happened to visit (the wonderful artist Ezra Lingeveldt). The easy-listening jazz added to the chilled out atmosphere.
Whether you're on a date, catching up with mates or celebrating a special occasion, Live Bait won't disappoint.
Great views from this restaurant situated on the first floor and overlooking Muizenberg beach. The menu is geared for seafood with few vegetation options. Kids menu offers some decent options. There is an area where kids can sit on bean bags and draw with chalk on the wall. Beer on tap, a decent wine list and fresh fish & sushi made for a great lunch out.
Fresh delicious food. Short waiting times from ordering your food and getting it on your table. This restaurant also offers great views of the beach. Love the interior design as well.
Fantastic place awesome menu if you are a fish lover awesome service by the crazy old man beautiful view of the bay stunning inside of you want to relax this is the place I would recommend it fully.
Food is good, freshly made and the waiters are friendly. The location and view is fantastic.
Very relaxing afternoon spent with absolutely good food, very good and friendly service indeed. Would definitely go back and highly recommend.
Muizenberg's beach front has changed alot over these past years, once teaming old derelict buildings has flourished into a lively hip place. Live Bait restaurant offers seafood with great views overlooking the bay. Wednesday are half price on sushi. They do serve fish and chips, the batter is abit thick but if you like that. Furthermore helpful friendly staff attending your every need
In spite if the fact thst our village, Muizenberg was in suffering yet another power outage, Life Bait handled the challenge with grace and still delivered excellent service and a well prepared meal.
We enjoy their ambiance, their fresh fish dishes and friendly service.
We ordered their deep fried take and roasted vegetables which was a huge challenge with no electricity.
The meal was still produced with their usual enthusiasm.

Great place with a super view of the beach and ocean. Their fish and chips deal on Saturdays is excellent value for money and totally delicious. Will go back soon for half-price sushi Wednesday!
Beautiful setting... view of the beach... Relaxing atmosphere I had the seafood pasta in white sauce and it was very good
Will definitely go back
One of the best restaurants I've been to in Cape Town. The setting is magnificent, with a splendid view of the ocean.
Great food and fantastic service from Leslie! All round a lovely experience. Will be back when I am in Cape Town again.
Had an awesome lunch. Value for money food. Chilled vibes. Perfect view.
Beautiful view of Muzenburg Beach and the Mountain Range. Great seafood menu with great specials. They also do steaks Pizza and Sushi
Went here for my birthday lunch. The food was awesome and the view was beautiful.
