Review Pomodoro - Morningside

Courtney White
Completely speechless at how amazing the food is! Stephen kept checking on us and along with our waiter and owner Stefano we felt right at home. We'll definitely be returning very soon for some more exquisite food. A million thank yous.

Fine dining, Italian style restaurant with elegant decor. Tasty food with reasonable portions. Their fillet steak was so flavourful and tender and cooked to a perfect medium-well done as requested. It was so beautifully plated. The wait staff was accommodating and friendly, they paid attention to my preferences and ensured that my dining experience was nothing short of exceptional. The dim lighting and soothing background music created an upscale, relaxed atmosphere. A must-visit indeed! Lastly, their fries are to die for, crisp and light with very little oil. That was noteworthy for me

Good food but service could improve a bit. We were a large table so that was understandable. Tiramisu was underwhelming…

I love this restaurant! It's my go-to spot whether I'm dining alone, with my kids or friends. The food is consistently excellent, and it's super convenient to stop by after picking my kids up from school. We always order the best Margherita pizza, which reminds me of my time in Italy, and I can't get enough of either the veal or spinach & ricotta ravioli. The atmosphere is welcoming and cosy, and I always feel relaxed and happy there. The staff is always friendly and professional and goes above and beyond to make our experience terrific.

We ate here this is evening and I must say it was the BEST pasta we’ve had in a long time! The staff were friendly and the managers checked in on us a couple time which was reassuring and just all around lovely! Would highly recommend Pomodoro!!

Restaurant is busy, so, do reserve your table. In winter better ask for a inside table, it's much better. Service is friendly and good... The menu is vast and difficult to choose from: too much good stuff. Portions are big and well served on hot dishes. Cooking time is in average 15 to 20 min... they really cook from scratch. The Pork Chops were unforgettable... A must visit Italian food restaurant.

This is an excellent establishment. The staff are super friendly and their service is great. Management is very hands on and always checks in on customers. The food is so yummy from the fresh focaccia, tasty starters, delicious mains and delectable desserts. I would highly recommend them for their parmesan filet, fresh salad and the most incredible almond tart 👏🏾

Situated inside Morningside Shopping Centre. Family enjoyed all their dishes. Highly recommend the calamari dish. Service was okay although you will wait a good while for your meal.

Been twice and love it. Food is amazing and full of flavour. Be sure to try out their chilli. Waiters are mature and knowledgeable and actually care about their clients. Looking forward to my next visit.

I had a lovely lunch at Pomodoro. My food (fillet and rocket side salad with delightful complimentary focaccia) was delicious. Dumie’s friendly and efficient service made the dining experience even better. He makes a difference with a smile and a positive attitude. Even the manager and the owner stopped by my table to ensure I enjoyed my lunch. Thank you, Dumie and Pomodoro, you have a great team. I will be back soon!

30 minutes before we got a menu or a drink 15 min for a wine that was by the glass on the menu waiter and owner insisted that it's not by the glass asked three times if all was okat but never improved owner and waiter also be lived that chardonnay was a red wine... so disappointing. ...
Elena Miles
We haven't been to this restaurant for quite a while and it was previously very good - but this time we were disappointed. The calamari starters were very good but the carpaccio starter was ok but had raw mushrooms with it which was a bit odd for me. My husbands osso bucco was good but the risotto that it came with was undercooked. My seafood starter was good but the spaghetti was way undercooked. Maybe they were just having a bad night? But the meal wasn't cheap so to be honest we wouldn't rush back there any time soon unfortunately!

Been going there for 7 years now, and I have never been disappointed....from the really great mojito to the really superb grilled salmon, I can go there again and again Mxxaaa!!

The best beef carpacio ever! Everything was delicious and fantastic service. Keep it up guys!!!

We have frequented Pomodoro since they opened in the Codfather Centre on Rivonia Rd. Many, many moons later I am still pleased with the quality of the dishes and the accompanying authenticity. This is an establishment that has stood the test of time and change! Well done Stefano 🙌🏻

Pomodoro + Uber Eats = Disaster! Ordered our meal shortly after 8pm. Wrong order was delivered 45 mins later. By the time we finally got the right order it was after 10pm and the food was ice cold - at which point we were too tired to be hungry anyway!

Awesome Mothers Day lunch. The baby chicken with broccoli and garlic was sublime.
Diane Schwartz
Excellent food and fabulous service. Definitely my favourite Italian restaurant.
Melanie Pool
Apparently not a kids restaurant! Thanks will never see me again!
Christal Meiring
Awesome Lasagne and friendly service. Nice for Sandton
Kaylee Ann McGinn
Food was good , soup was oily and tasted terrible. Cutlery was dirty. Tea pot had bits in it and the milk jug had dust in it which made the milk brown. But the service was good and they were very helpful
Cherel Jacobs
Food was good!

What a superb, fantastic and divine dining experience! As far as I'm concerned, this is the most prestigious restaurant in Johannesburg and South Africa! You do truly get treated like royalty every time you come here! Lovely restaurant and lovely owners that always make us feel so welcome! Thank you!

Was absolutely amazing. Had great pizza and great service
Amahle Ndlela
Whenever feel like Italian food, Pomodoro is a great deal,
Pastas, Pizza and Salads are always amazing, we had their strawberry G and T for drinks before ordering salad mista italiana as a starter, For the mains we had the special rissotto primavera which was cooked perfectly well then had some Almond tart as desserts, service from waiter was very good. Definitely will be back.
Kay
Great hangout place. The vibe is always great. Great pizza and wine type outlet. My favourite is their chicken breast in a creamy white sauce, its absolutely delicious. Great service too

We were welcomed by friendly staff and seated immediately. Our waiter Phewo was incredible. The starters of calamari and focaccia were so yummy. I had the porcini risotto and my husband had a gorgeous pasta - a big enough portion for a man weighing 118kgs. Overall a delightful Italian restaurant with fabulous service and tasty food.
Rakhil Sewpersadh
Really great and comforting itallian food!! The staff are really pleasant and not mention the hospitiable manager Stefano. Highly recommended, just make sure you make a booking well in advance!

First visit at this overly restaurant in Morningside shopping centre. Had a couples dinner with some friends. Great ambience and decent service.

My wife and I enjoyed pasta dishes - I had the Fetuccine in a creamy mushroom and ham sauce (replacing the ham with chicken) and my wife had her favorite pasta dish (carbonara). Our friends had the rump steak and the grilled chicken breasts. Everyone throughly enjoyed their meals.

Dessert was a bit a letdown - the tiramisu was rather sweet and a little soggy for my liking. That was the only gripe I had with this place.

I have always been a fan of Pomodoro as a sit down resturant. We ordered take away tonight which were sadly a disappointment. The serving size on the lasagna was underwhelming to say the least. The pizza and pasta we ordered alongside the lasagna were tasty, but can’t help feel a little ripped off based on the portion size of the lasagna.
Remé Harber
Was disappointed with the prawn dish I ordered for mains. It was not a lot of prawns and they we not as tasty as I have had at other restaurants. The service was also quite slow. On the plus side I really enjoyed their spinach.
Foodie Lover
Lunch here today and ordered the Linguini Vongole but what arrived was the Pena Fillet with tomato and caper sauce, decided not to make a fuss and accept the incorrect item and what a mistake, it was so bland, after adding salt, pepper, Chile and Garlic I could manage eating half the dish, certainly won’t be back.
Princess Niritika
The Restuarant ambience and service were great, the food was awful, probably the worst Italian i ever had ! The gluten free pasta was a combination of rubber and wet cardboard, i asked for a sauce after it arrived, the pomodoro sauce which tasted like it was tomatoes out of a can, give this Restuarant a miss....
Charvani Naidoo
Expensive and portions are tiny, but it was very delicious.......... Was my birthday and they gave me a nice treat :) very nice of them! The staff were friendly.
Ling
Would recommend the calamari main dish. The pizzas are disappointing, but they do get the focaccia right. Relatively quiet restaurant most nights

This was our first experience at Pomodoro on Saturday with the in-laws, we frequently visit the other restaurants in Morningside mall and love them all. Pomodoro has an amazing wine list but only a few cater for a single glass option. I had a white Chenin blanc which was delightful. For our food, my partner had the traditional Gli spaghetti allo scoglio which is tomato based pasta with prawn, mussels and calamari which was super tasty. I was most impressed by my option though - I am not a huge fan of tomato based pasta sauces so I asked if I could have the same option with a creamy white wine sauce. Lone behold my waiter took the order down with no reservation and brought it with all the other mains. This dish was the star - in my opinion better than the original and should be a menu item. A very good experience that wasn’t break the budget and the service was on point ♥️
Definitely will be back again x

It is the second time which I have been to the restaurant and it does not disappoin. The staff are very helpful and friendly. Their pizza and pasta are delicious. Most of the items uses simple ingredients, yet the flavour is just delicious.
Marcio Lopes
Found the food to be very tasty. They have the best focaccia I’ve ever tried. Really nice menu/selection. On the downside, they seem to cook with a lot of oil (focaccia included). We also felt that management weren’t overly excited to help when our waiter was AWOL.

07.03.2018 Buonissimo – the term used by the Owner Stefano, to describe the Vriesenhof dinner party, and I couldn’t agree more.
I’ve been to Morningside shopping centre many times but somehow missed this gem in the middle.
I got to experience the Vriesenhof Dinner Party, with a group of really fun and interesting people. Stefano the owner, was absolutely hands on all evening which made the evening even more special. When you see the passion someone has for the food that they produce, you know it is made with quality and love.

Our welcome drink to kick off the evening was the Vriesenhof un-wooded Chardonnay 2016 (Floral with hints of marzipan, lemon Zest and dried pear) which you could pick up.
To nibble we got the most delicious Focaccia bread, which one could easily over indulge in, with a smear of butter.

Starters was a delicious Calamari, Chorizo and Chickpea Crostini. Full of flavours and a nice crunch to the Crostini, and it went down REALLY well with the Vriesenhof Grenache 2016. If you know me, I am not usually a red wine fan, but OH my word, this one was really good. It was slight on the tongue and just had a great all round taste. I was really impressed with this one.

First course, consisted of Rigatoni with Fresh Mussels and Braised Fennel, and was paired with the Vriesenhof Chardonnay 2015. Personally, I needed the Rigatoni cooked a bit more, the fruity flavours paired really well with the wine.

Second course, probably the most prominent course. Madagascan Green Pepper Fillet with a Potato Gratin. Absolutely Bold flavours the Pepper sauce really gave it a kick. The fillet was a bit undercooked to what I normally would have (yes I’m one of those that normally need my meat completely dead) but I ate the pieces that were cooked a bit more and indulged in the taste thereof. This was paired with the Vriesenhof Kallista 2013, which is has aromas of red fruit with a smokey finish and has a slightly peppery taste.

Dessert - now here was a thing of beauty. Simple delicate Berries and Caramel Millefoglie (Italian version of a Mille-Feuille) filled with Berries that were not too tart, and drizzled with a divine Crème Anglaise to finish it off. This was finished off with the last wine for the evening, the Vriesenhof Pinot Noir 2015. Again the reds are not my thing, but going forward I will happily have the Grenache 2016, so I may be converting slightly to the red family.

Thanks to all that made this a memorable evening.

Does what the box says...
Good food, nice wine selection, decent service reasonably priced... great place for a casual lunch/business lunch or dinner.

Have been going to Pomodoro for years and have always had an excellent meal. Wether you choose pasta, gnocchi, pizza, fish or meat...always cooked to perfection. Service is great. Highly recommended.
We have never had a bad meal or experience here. Pomodoro is my husbands favorite Italian restaurant and we frequent here quite often. Besides the food been great, and the outside area at Morningside Shopping Centre really adding a nice atmosphere, the hands on attention from The owners Stefano and his wife Vicki are what make this place special. I find it rare in Johannesburg to have the owners so attentive and involved! Pizza’s are always a winner, they are generous with toppings and the tomato sauce base is the best in JHB(in my humble opinion). Favorites include the Margherita, “Pollo e Pepperoni” which has chicken, sundried tomatoes and avo and also the Parma ham and rocket. Pasta favorites include the wild mushroom in whiskey sauce, the mozzarella, olive , tomato and basil, the ravioli, gnocchi and the ragu- in short you really can’t go wrong here, so order some wine from the boutique wine list, relax, feel welcomed and leave space for dessert!

Love this gem. Very homely with the owner always checking on tables and the food is always delicious. Quite a few vegetarian items on the menu and a nice wine selection

We visited this restaurant as a big group on a Saturday evening to celebrate a special birthday. We were a large group of approximately 30 people. That considered, service was good and the staff were friendly. For starters we had some focaccias and salad both of which were good. Perhaps they don't serve garlic ,chili & Parmesan routinely with the focaccia? Once requested this was brought to the table. For mains I ordered a spinach ravioli with napolitana sauce which was delicious. Some of the others on the table ordered pizzas, assorted pastas, calzones- everyone was very happy with their meal. It is a lovely intimate restaurant with a nice atmosphere, we enjoyed our celebrations there.

What a lovely evening spent at Pomodoro Ristorante! Everyone enjoyed their pastas, pizza and oh what lovely desserts! We had a "la pizza con patate e pancetta", Penne with prawn meat and tequila and Ravioli with prawn and a broccoli mouse. Lovely atmosphere and extremely busy even though it was a Tuesday evening. Great Italian Experience.
Rigard & Jeanine
One of the best restaurants on offer in the Morningside Shopping Centre. A wonderful array of well prepared dishes and of size able portions available. Excellent service in a family oriented setting. Our party ended the night off with coffees and the Tiramisu, Sicilian Lemon Tart and Chocolate Fondant for desert......which generated many oohs and aahs. Overall a wonderful experience.

I was invited to attend a wine pairing dinner at Pomodoro. It was my first visit to this Ristorante, and I was impressed from the moment I walked in. Big smiles - and I loved the decor!

We started off with a delicious fresh tuna tartare with micro herbs. Really tasty. Followed by the 1st main course of pappardelle with Florentine rabbit ragu, deliciously accompanied by Joostenberg Family Blend. Second main course was Eland casserole with grilled polenta - delicious comfort food! This was paired with Joostenberg "Klippe Kou" Shiraz. Divine!
Dessert was Coffee and Hazelnut panna cotta with dark chocolate coulis - decadence!! Served with the most divine Joostenberg Chenin Blanc Noble Late Harvest!
What a wonderful evening, and thank you for your warm hospitality.
I enjoyed the meal I had at Pomodoro. I had the burger, I had my dad with me who was hanging for Italian. I wasn't really in the mood but I wasn't complaining regarding a free meal. The Burger was still delicious and my dads salmon pasta was brilliant.

Quick and friendly staff and easy to find parking which always makes the evening a little more relaxed

I will go for back!

Exquisite food. Exquisite atmosphere. Exquisite service. By far the best Italian place I've experienced in the Sandton area. Whether you decide on pizza, pasta, or any other main meal, you are bound to enjoy every bite

Worst pizza and pasta I've ever had. Service is pretty bad too. Ordered a glass of wine and was given champagne instead, I ain't complaining if it was complimentary, which it was not, instead of letting us finish it to correct his mistake, the manager took our half drunk glass away and told us the wine we ordered was not available and we should chose another one.
Roeitha Dayasunker
As always great food and great service. Perfect place for a quiet Sunday night dinner. Friendly staff who continually checked up on us. Never disappoints ❤
G
Some time the service is just not worth the food. Pizzas ok , pasta ok - grilled fish terrible and over priced!!

The venue is good and clean and well maintained
Ashley
Disappointing experience both from a food and service perspective.

We struggled to get the attention of the waiter for most of the night and our food took an hour to arrive.
When it finally did the pizza was good but the veal and beef ragu tagliatelle was extremely salty and the pasta undercooked.

Natalie Lazaris
I feel that pomodoro doesn't get the respect it deserves. This is a really great restaurant with delicious food, but more on the quiet side, which is strange. The food is very good, service is tops and well in terms of cleanliness and decor it's clean and simple. You know what you get with this spot, just try it out. You won't be dissapointed.
Sachin Ram-Asary
Great Italian food. Had the lasagna and wasn't disappointed. Service was pretty average. It's a very busy little restaurant so booking is vital.
Sherry Naicker
Great service at this place. Ordered the veg ravioli, chicken and mushroom fettuccine and a baby chicken. All the food was great. Dessert also great. The almond tart stood out as amazing. Will be back here
Caroline
Love their Banting pizza bases! Always a good option for dinner. Staff are friendly & attentive. Kitchen is sometimes a little slow. I return here regularly!
Lisa Van Wyk
One of the best Italian spots in joburg. I love their authentic touch to everything on the menu. I ordered their rosemary and lemon chicken and it's honestly just sensational! My mom had the pasta and raved about it. This place is a family favorite and it's just so so yummy. Couldn't recommend it more!
Kevin McLennan
I'm actually such a fan of Pomodoro after my first visit. The food is great, the staff really go out of their way and the ambience is peaceful away from the hustle and bustle of Rivionia. Yet the spot still remains super trendy!
The Sandton Times
A restaurant with the best dessert menu in Johannesburg, not taking away from the really amazing Italian mains menu featuring beautiful dishes, made from scratch and pizza's with a banting option! A regular favourite, especially the chocolate mousse and Sicilian lemon tart.

Lunch at Pomodoro was pleasant. I ordered the line fish of the day with spinach and my friend ordered the duck breast with Spinach.

Both our meals were equally enjoyable, I enjoyed the line fish more it was very soft and tasty ...

The service was good , lovely ambiance, perfect weather ..

The reason why I'm not rating Pomodoro any higher than 3.5 is mainly due the shocking discovery @ ladies room . The conditions were unacceptable and unpleasant 😪😳#Shocking actually 😳😳😱😱
If you do go you better off using the Mall toilets 😫😱🤤

Anisha Lutchman
I've been to Pomodoro a couple of times and what I do know is that it is a good, consistent Italian restaurant. I was flying to Zimbabwe the next day and I happened to be at Morningside Shopping Centre so we decided to go grab a quick bite.

The service was good and the food was excellent. We ordered a pizza to share and decided on the la pizza con pollo e pomodori secchi with tomato, mozzarella, grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes and garlic, which were a winning combination of toppings! I also had a taste of the il petto di pollo con funghi e tartufo, which was a black pepper and mascarpone cheese stuffed chicken breast with a creamy mushroom and truffle sauce. This has got to be the most amazing chicken breast I've ever tasted. It was cooked to perfection and just delicious!

If you are looking for a great Italian restaurant with lots to choose from, I would definitely recommend Pomodoro!
Charneel Du Preez
Love this cozy restaurant, food yummy and service great! manager was very helpful and kind. will definitely be back for the Gluten free pasta option and the egg pasta, loved the atmosphere as well... keep it up guys!

What a great dinner! Always see this place but never given it a try, after last night this is going to be a new local. All 4 of us had pasta dishes and all were exceptional. Seafood pasta was overflowing with prawns as was the prawn risotto which was cooked to perfection. Staff well trained and manager present and engaged. Only reason I didn't give it a 5 was wine list not too exciting

Here I am sitting at home nibbling on a hot-cross bun wondering what I had for dinner. I have just left Pomodoro having ordered the beef ravioli. The dish came with 6 pieces of pasta. I quartered each parcel, hoping that the oxygen in between my bites will make me feel more full... Please don't get me wrong- it was tasty (not mouthwatering) and I make a habit out of leaving enough for take aways for tomorrow's lunch.... But I am still starving. After eating the whole dish that cost more than a usual portion of pasta! Small portions can be excused if it is fine dining- the ravioli here, is not.
Mmule
Came here for a late lunch and it was the best idea. They usually have specials so ask the waiter for more info.

I had the chicken pasta & my partner had a prawn risotto. Both meals were so effortless so clean. If you haven't been please go!!
Jill Nudelman
Didn't feel like cooking on a Monday night so Sam, I and the two little ones (23 and 21) made the 9.1km journey through the rain and traffic to Pomodoro. Was worth it. I like restaurants where the owner/manager is around - as he was. I've never had a bad meal here.
Service was good; food delish. Nice complementary focaccia bread. The choice of line fish, sea bass, was finished but kingklip made a worthy substitute.
Someone once told me that you can judge a restaurant on its lemon tart. So while desserts are probably outsourced, this one was okay - the base was a bit too thick and stodgy. Memo to myself: don't eat dessert.
Wine: Kevin Arnold Shiraz 2012. Delicious!

Feb 28 lunch: We were actually planning to go to the restaurant next to this but didn’t see many veg options and hence came here. The décor and look of the place is quite nice. As with other places in this shopping centre, the place is divided into 2 parts. We sat in the outside area - liked the lamp shades. Since, we were not very hungry, ordered for one pasta and one side order. While you wait for your food to come, they serve bread - kind of garlic flat bread. This was salty and tasted nice. Pair it with the chillies they serve - very tasty. The ravioli di ricotta e spinachi was very good. The ravioli was well cooked and the stuffing was tasty. However, the le patate novelle saltate was quite ordinary. Crushed baby potatoes with parsley and virign olive oil was just like a mashed dish.
Melanie Meyers
Where to start....service...I have never had such a disinterested waiter serve me before...it was surreal..he barely interacted with us. Standard 'yes' and 'no' answers....no knowledge of food or drinks menu...it was like he was 'killing time' to serve us! Food was ok... Veal ravioli had a strange texture...and complimentary focaccia was definitely old(cardboard) The food came so quickly that I suspect everything was pre-cooked? The ambience was nice though and I enjoyed the Bellini cocktail.
Saiyuri
Had a quick dinner with a friend here after work, will definitely be back to try out other menu items, especially the pizzas! On this occasion I chose an egg tagliatelle pasta with a creamy mushroom sauce which I really enjoyed

If you're looking for a taste of authentic Italian cuisine, you need to consider Pomodoro Ristorante in Morningside. There menu defies stereotypical cliches to bring you an authentic Italian experience.

Stefano Mas, chef and owner, goes to great lengths to assure diners that if a dish is not true to its Italian roots - then it is honestly his own creation. When it comes to tradition, Stefano is a purist, but he's not unknown to create a few dishes of his own. He usually comes out to speak to diners, so feel free to ask him questions. He's passionate about food and travel - he's equally passionate about sourcing ingredients and preparing dishes, so ask him anything.

He recommended we try the pizza with (Italian) sausage meat and artichokes - I ordinarily gravitate towards a blue cheese & bacon pizza, so this was left of centre for me, but we were sharing so I took one for the team. It was a heavenly fusion of velvety mashed potato and subtle sausage punctuated with acidic artichokes and creamy mozzarella. I've always been underwhelmed by mozzarella, but Stefano uses cows milk mozzarella - not the hipster buffalo mozzarella - and the flavour profile is quite pronounced. You'll never want buffalo mozzarella again!

I ordered the pork belly with rosemary and garlic - always a winning combination for me, which was melt in your mouth satisfaction with a comforting herbal infusion. I generally don't eat carbs, but after a taste of the squid ink taglioni with prawns & basil pesto, I swear that had there been bread on the table I would have mopped my friend's plate clean, just to experience the essence of their prawns and basic. Someone ordered the gnochi with wild mushrooms and truffle paste (I can't touch gnochi either) but they swooned over it.

They offer a selection of desserts, but I opted for the lightest option available - a delightfully citrus-y lemon sorbet - both a palate cleanser and perfectly sufficient to end the evening with a sweet.

Best memory of Pomodoro Ristorante? Enjoying the leftover pizza for breakfast the next morning - and I look forward to more!

It's bellissimo!
GOODATEATING
I truly believe that pastas make the world a better place, and this good people is one of them // This restaurant has consistently been one of my favorites and I hadn't been in such a long time but was so pleased that I returned to the same standard, maybe even a little better. My food was really enjoyable, the sauce was a perfect creamy mushroom sauce, the absence of meat wasn't even noticeable. It all just worked really well in my tummy.
It's a cute little Italian restaurant, that has the most versatile menu. It has really great portions. It's cosy, so going there during winter wouldn't destroy your life. It has a nice scenery. For a small space, the restaurant really made seating arrangements work out for everyone.
Its a vibe that caters for most, It's appropriate enough for mature casual meetings, but there were also a group of girls that looked like they were having a girls night out, a company get together, and normal date nights. It's pretty down for everyone.
I came here for dinner on Friday, so it was really busy, so the service was quite slow. We waited for what felt like forever for our meals to arrive. Thankfully it was worth the wait. So if you're going to come here, come on a not so popular night.
Overall, dope please to eat at. I was really full, but I still pushed myself to finish my meal. I told you guys I was good at eating.

Best meal I/we have had in ages. Tonight, 3 January 2017, my parents, myself and boyfriend celebrated my mom's birthday at Pomodoro.

I had only been to Pomodoro once before many years ago I recalled it being very good. Very good doesn't even begin to describe the epicness that was tonight's meal. We ordered a foccacia to start, mains were as follows, my dad ordered the crumbed veal, my boyfriend ordered the line fish, I ordered the seafood pasta and my mom ordered the pasta with the olives, tomato and flor de late mozzarella. Once the food arrived my mom's food was cold we sent it back and when it returned it was a fresh bowl of pasta and it was perfect.

Everyone was super happy with their meal. Mine was phenomenal one of the best pasta dishes I have ever had. It was one of the best meals we have all had.

To top it off we had the most scrumptious dessert, I had the chocolate mousse, my mom had the crepe suzette (my mom never has dessert) and my boyfriend has the chocolate fondant. Wow, just wow what an unbelievable night of food!!

You'll definitely see us again!!!

Great food. Something for everyone's taste - vegetarian, white or red meat. Good selection of wine. Enjoyable ambiance. Good for a quiet twosome dinner or more. Attentive attendants.
One of my favourite places to take friends.

I'm on the fence... ate here today and I thoroughly enjoyed the prawn pasta although my guests did think it was way too al dente - I liked it that way. My starter (tomato bruscheta) disappointed and I barely finished half of it, but that's probably because I hate rocket and the flavour seeped through everything. Also didn't expect chopped up tomatoes on toast, so I'll take the blame for not asking. My guests starters of calamari had me regretting not taking that - was really good. And one of my guests quite enjoyed the steak with a side of spinach. Rating is low because a few minutes after our mains arrived we had just begun eating, we were asked if we could move to accommodate other patrons who had just arrived and my partner told them to we would move when we were done eating. I decided to rush through dinner as the atmosphere was now tense, asked for the bill and when the waiter came to swipe he looked rather angry (i admit i gave 6% - but it is month end and service wasnt great) and asked if we didn't like the food or what. I replied with our experience and the comments on food to which he replied it's always like that and stormed off... I left quite perturbed but all in all an ok evening.
Cosy restaurant with a traditional Italian cafe kind of feel to it. Food is good, pizzas are perfect size for sharing. Service can be a bit slow but the staff is very friendly.
Nuno Goncalo Bandeiras
I love the risotto from Pomodo and the environment is very cosy. And the offer of the focaccia with the sauce tomato, cheese and home chilli is very coll too. And the staff is 5 stars
Kashma
Great Italian restaurant. Nice vibe. Excellent quality food with good service. The mushroom risotto is my favourite dish. And my hubby loves the salmon pasta. Try the butternut mash - it's delightful!
Marentia Van Kasterop
Pomodoro is a nice restaurant in the Morningside shopping mall. Luckily you don't really need to enter the mall. The restaurant is situated on the side of the mall and its quite open.

The pizza was good...... really good! Thin crust but not soggy at all. And they did not skimp on the toppings at all.

A good experience 😄😄

Binita Mistry
Had dinner at Pomodoro last night. Ordered the pan fried chicken breast with mushroom and truffle sauce. Service was great and food arrived quickly. The food was excellent, chicken breast soft and tender and the mushrooms and truffle sauce just made the dish. Lovely Italian restaurant with a wide variety of dishes to choose from.

Melanzane was very good , fresh ingredients and freshly made , the porcinini mushroom risotto was one of the best I have had ,it did however have a pinch too much salt for my taste. Waiters very friendly but not good on timing to attend
LP
Had a wonderful meal with family there. Our waiter was Mandla who was very responsive to requests and had good knowledge of the menu. The owner Stefano came and greeted each table which is really great that an owner takes the time and effort to do this. There was a small issue with regards to the amount of prawns in the dish ordered which Stefano explained that the portions come pre-packed per serving. The issue was well handled by Stefano and he charged us for only a half portion. All starters and mains, other than the issue raised, were absolutely delicious. I will definitely recommend and visit again.

Had Friday lunch with clients who highly recommended the place. I really enjoyed the service and the food. I was in the mood for seafood and since this was an Italian restaurant I tried the spicy prawn pizza. I was not let down by the thin based pizza and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Prices are decent and if you are in the area it is worth a try.

The food is good, I enjoy the inside/outside dining feeling that they have created. They do a great pizza. Portion sizes have become slightly smaller than I remember but still a good choice when you feel like Italian.

Just had a lovely lunch here. Hadn't been for quite a while. Good friendly service. Lovely anti-pasti for two. Small but well thought-out wine list. Caprese salad was lovely. Good, fresh Fior de Latte and crisp tomatoes. Generous portion of deli meats on the anti-pasti misto. Yummy calamari. Highly recommend.

Dinner at Pomodoro Ristorante at Morningside Shopping Centre is always a lovely treat. The chef and owner Stefano is one of those guys that will come out and greet you and tell you about the dishes that he is preparing and what he has been experimenting with and where he gets his inspiration from. It just makes that dining experience so much more personal and intimate.
Nicole
Food is always excellent and service good-would recommend the pork chops and fillet ruccola (our standard order) at least once a week :-) pizza's and risottos are also delicious
Saltnsas
Fantastic! Great service. Great food.
I had the most delicious home made papperdelle with wild mushrooms and olive oil off the specials menu. Their chocolate mousse is smooth and decadent and definitely worth the calories!
Talia Lee Cohen
Delicious pizzas, the base is thin and crisp with a slightly sweet tomato base. The pastas are simply good, and the desserts are too bad either 😜 warming, friendly atmosphere
Chante Daries
This place is great for taking some friends. It has a very homely vibe which I thought was great. Great service too. And the food was on par with the service. I had the lamb chops and it was really good.

Stephano suggested THE MOST AMAZING dish ever. Had the gnocchi and truffle special for dinner. Was sad to take the last bite... IT WAS THE BEST IVE HAD!!

We have been here twice in the past two weeks. Great ambience and service. It's always busy so I would recommend making a reservation.

I would definitely recommend the melanzane for starters. It wasnt as rich as melanzanes I have had elsewhere and attention to detail amazing

There is homemade pasta which is always a winner. A word of warning though creamy really does mean creamy. Their pizzas are delicious and reasonably priced. Definitely coming back

This was the first restaurant that me and my two friends went to have lunch after coming to Johannesburg for the first time. We were living in Duo Via Centrale, Morning side and we just took a walk and came into morning side shopping Centre. We picked Pomodoro and we absolutely loved it. And I always recommend my friends to go to Pomodoro for a good meal.

I still remember ordering the Pizza with grilled chicken, mozzarella, sun dried tomatoes and garlic. The Name was too long and i was having hard time pronouncing it and my friends was having a laugh. Then I ordered a Pesto Pasta and tiramisu. Totally worth spending and eating here. I have returned here many times and The food would be always fresh, tasty and excellent. I recommend this if you want to have a tasty lunch/dinner.

Have had some really great experiences here and some not so great. I am a firm believer that if you're going to excel at certain dishes rather have more in line with them and give people fewer potions but greater the taste.

That being said, recently I had lunch here with a colleague, and enjoyed the rump, the steak was cooked perfectly to medium rare, my only problem with it was that it was a tad cold. The Lemon butter sauce and the chips were amazing.

The wait staff brought out bread as a complimentary starter. Very nice touch and the manageress came out to just say "bon appetite" before we started, well played on service.

This is a week in and week out favourite of my wife and mine. We enjoy the vibey atmosphere and friendly service. Also often just stop by for takeout Pizza and are not disappointed. In particular the La Pizza quattro stagioni and La Pizza con parma e ruculo are outstanding. The tagliolini al salmone is also a rich creamy and very delicious choice for a sit down. Great wine selection.

Nothing great here for veg people. Mediocre pasta and bland pizza, but not horrible, so this is an OK choice if everything else is closed. Good location. Generally OK service.
Shaun Gunning
Nice, friendly spot. Was an error with one of the orders that the management agreed to sort out. Food was delicious, although I do feel they could be a bit more generous with the pizza toppings...

Excellent ambience for a casual dining experience to enjoy some good Italian cuisine . Service is always good with very welcoming staff around trying to please your needs.
Ordered the Ravioli Di gamberi which is a home made ravioli filled with a prawn and basil mouse served with beurre-Blanc sauce. A bit of a tricky dish as the prawns need to be cooked well or else you will feel it a bit like a sushi dish in pasta. The pasta was well cooked with the sauce a bit rich for the helping however full of wonderful flavours for your palette. The prawns on the other hand was a bit of a let down as it was not fully cooked leaving a bit of a raw feel in your mouth. All in all I did enjoy the pasta and sauce but recommend a starter dish on this one mainly because of the richness of this amazing sauce.

We were on this side of town and as zomato friends rated this restaurant so highly,we decided to try it. We were not disappointed, from the friendly waiter to the excellent food, tasty and fresh. Unfortunately there was no water in the centre, and when I asked for water they couldn't give it to me,they should of just open a bottled water to satisfy us.but never the less if we are ever back on this side I will go back
Yu
First visit, had pastas. Food presentation was fantastic, very appetising. Taste was as good as looked. Thumbs up! A bottle of water was too expensive. I wish I had a choice of locally bottled water that would be cheaper than Italian one.

I have had light lunches here before but the dinner that greeted our group last night was beyond compare. The venue is warm and cosy inside, service was good and the owner/chef Stefano, made us all feel at home in his "home". From the homemade squid ink pasta, to the chorizo and mozzarella pizza starters all the way to the braised pork belly and mash, the tastes were exquisite and unique and paired with Dieu Donne wines made for ab unforgettable experience. Such love and care have gone in to this menu - highly recommended for a tasty, classy dinner..or lunch.

Pomodoro Ristorante is situated at the Morningside Shopping Centre just off of Rivonia in Johannesburg. A quaint little Italian restaurant that oozes a modern & chic environment whilst upholding a upmarket feel.

The owner & chef Stefano was there to welcome a few of us to his establishment and explained a little bit about himself. An extremely knowledgable & passionate individual when it comes to food, as one can imagine living in many parts of the world and how different cultures would influence his cooking style & techniques.

One thing that I always love when I sit down at a restaurant is when the server will ask if we would like a bottle of water whilst we wait and decide on what we would like to drink. (This doesn’t happen often, but it did happen at Pomodoro.)

Starting off with a ‘pre-starter’ – Margherita pizza. Extremely light base and generous with the cheese.

Moving on to our starters
– Crumbed Grilled Calamari, gives off the illusion that it has been fried in a crispy batter, yet it has been grilled, without overcooking it and making it feel like you are chewing on a piece of rubber.
– Beef Carpaccio, delicately sliced pieces of beef with fresh mushrooms and parmesan shavings make a delightful and flavoursome dish.

The 1st set of main meals – 3 Pasta Dishes

I can’t decide which one of these are my favourite.
The 1st – Porcini Mushroom Tagliatelle. Dried porcini mushrooms are infused with a Chivas Regal Whisky served with a fresh and light creamy sauce.
The 2nd – Lamb & Tomato based Rigatoni. I believe this would make a wonderful dish in the colder winter months where the soft lamb and tomato just come together so well.
The 3rd – Spinach Ricotta with Goat Cheese & Truffle Oil. I am a spinach lover, so this dish was superb for me being paired with that goat cheese. The truffle oil just adds a bit of a different element of surprise to the dish which one would not expect.

The 2nd set of main meals –

The 1st – Pan fried Veal Liver & Caramelised onions served with a potato puree. What I loved with this dish is that the potato puree was not super fine, but still full of texture.
The 2nd – A medium rare T-bone prepared with only coarse salt and rosemary oil. You would think that it is very plain. And yes. It may be so. But, those flavours are just incredible. So if you are a meat lover. This one is for you.

Finally on to the desserts –

- Panna Cota with Vanilla & Wild Berry Coulis. A fresh and tasty combination after any meal.

- Chocolate Fondant that will make you salivate just looking at it.

Naturally, wine was flowing the whole night. And there is a wide variety of wines to choose from and Stefano will always recommend the best wine to accompany your meal.

All in all, this was a wonderful experience. Amazing service. A chef who knows exactly what he is talking about and will actually make the right suggestions for you. I’m definitely going back.

We live coming to this restaurant and it’s starting to feel like home in terms of great food and being made to feel at home. They recently had a little revamp but have not lost any of the feeling and cosines.

I love the way all the restaurants located next to each other in this shopping centre have now been "blocked" off from each other as it makes it feel more cosy and it gives each restaurant its own character.

The food was really great. I usually have the home made tagliatelle with slow cooked veal and beef ragu and we also had the fettuccine in a slow cooked mushroom sauce with the chicken (vs ham) option. Both dishes were well prepared and delicious and also huge; we battled to finish it but it was so good we tried.

The vibe in the restaurant works well and it's not too noisy in spite of it being very full.

I will continue to visit and enjoy the great food and vibe and friendliness.

.

After an exhilarating Turkish shave & cut, we opted to have lunch next door at Pomodoro.
We were welcomed by manager and waiter on arrival and given a choice of tables outside on the patio. It was a sticky hot Sunday but the coolness of sitting outside went down very well.
The decor is a sort of modern maybe Italian something. It neither resembled the decor of the restaurants I visited in Rome or in Alba or in Turino.
We had a table salad of green leaves, pear, pecorino & almonds with a honey, truffle vinaigrette. It was crisp and refreshing and pretty yummy.
For mains I had a rigatoni with tomato and lamb and basil. It was delicious. Lots of sauce and lamb.
My wife had the linguine with ricotta, bacon & basil. She really enjoyed it. On having a taste of her meal I think I had the winner in my dish 😀
Overall I really enjoyed the vibey atmosphere generated by the buzz of the other patrons and the meal was really good.
It didn't quite remind me of my trips to Italy but it was a pleasant & enjoyable experience & meal.
Ravi Govender
Food always great, and great atmosphere. Speciality menu always worth looking out for especially the fried risotto balls. Prawn and Basil ravioli and Fettucini with Tomato, pancetta and Ricotta also superb and the chocolate fondant is sinful
Nasreen Rasool
We had a quick lunch here and the food was really good! I had the prawn starter which had the most divine garlic seasoning and the mixed veggies as a side. The side was very different to the usual stuff so I quite enjoyed that. My friend had the kingklip which she loved. The staff and friendly and attentive. The device is efficient and I definitely recommend this restaurant to others.

Was invited to a group meet at Pomodoro last night and met owner/manager Stefano and was a culinary delight from start to finish.
We were a group of four and we sampled each dish with appropriate wines and seriously got a feast of traditional Italian dishes.
We had a legit margherita pizza with fior de latte mozzarella with basil which was light and crispy and a great start to whet the appetite along with some stunning Sauvignon Blanc.
There were many dishes but these were some of the highlights.
Flash grilled Falkland's calamari beautiful cooked and super tender with lovely crust and seasoning and then on to some of the main dishes.
Lamb ragu with basil and tomato with rigatoni which blew my socks off it was so good- one of the highlights of the evening as well as a creamy porcini, saffron and whisky sauce pasta with tagliatelle.
Next was the beast a T-Bone grilled with coarse salt and rosemary oil- it was one of the best steaks I've had in a while.
We had numerous other dishes but too many to mention and ended with a delightful panna cotta with berry coulis and a Belgian chocolate fondant with cream which was so good it hurt.
Some espressos to seal the deal and I was hooked, definitely be back soon.

Great atmosphere!
Great Service! Waiter was brilliant!
Very generous portions but the food was simple basic flavours, a little complexity would have really bettered the meal. I had Pizza and my family had veal and no complaints.
Desert was also very good and VERY generous.

A great meal all around.

We have been to this restaurant several times and I have yet to be disappointed. We love the decor, very funky and modern but so warm and welcoming at the same time.

My husband and I shared ostrich carpaccio to start with, the flavour was so subtle and light and paired with strong parmesan cheese and rocket, it tasted very well balanced.

I had pizza with prawns and garlic for my main which was so delicious and fresh, very pleasing on the palate. When coupled with white wine, it's a great compliment to the meal. My husband had chicken breasts with rosemary. His plate was cleared in under 10 minutes.

There was quite a wait between starters and mains but because everything is prepared so well, it's understandable.

Perfect pizza and pasta for above Sunday afternoon.
An Italian themed restaurant in a simple classy centre, choose the outdoor seating.
Friendly service as well

Tonight, I had the most superb evening at this little gem: authentic Italian, organic wine, excellent service with a smile from Evans (our waiter) and new friends.

Onto the food:
STARTERS:
To start, we shared the Vitelli Tonnato - thinly sliced slow braised veal with a tuna, capers, anchovies and mayonnaise sauce. Really different and I was surprised that you could combine the fish taste with veal.
Melanzane alla Parmigiana - baked aubergines with Napoletana sauce, mozzarella and Parmigiana cheese.* This starter was INCREDIBLE and the perfect solution to any meat-free Monday dish.

PRIMI:
Risotto con Porcini - risotto with fresh porcini mushrooms, parsley and white wine with a touch of chilli. Simple, elegant and my favourite primi course of the evening.
Rigatoni con salsiccia e zucchini - rigatoni pasta (cooked al dente) with Italian sausage, zucchini, rosemary and cream.

SECONDI:
Filetto di pesce alla Pomodoro and the Filletto di manzo con rucola, grana e balsamico.
For me, the winner of the two dishes - Filetto di pesce - grilled kingklip fillet with sundried tomato pesto, julienne stir-friend vegetables and a home made herb sauce.
I loved it! The sundried tomato pesto made this dish for me.

DESSERT:
Mouse al cioccolato - organic Belgian chocolate mousse with chocolate disks and berry coulis.
Tiramisu - the traditional Italian finger biscuit dessert with mascarpone, coffee, and not too much rum ;).
I really liked both dishes for completely different reasons. One was particularly rich, the other light after so many heavy dishes.

And last but not least, an expresso then limoncello ;)

What a superb evening had by all eating what I realised was Stefano's traditional family recipes, tried and tested in Italy over generations.

*Recommendation: This restaurant may not have cheap Italian, but if you want the original, traditional Italian experience and food, using only the best ingredients, then Pomodoro is for you.
Kelsy Moodley
Overall a good experience but nothing to write home about. I had the grilled prawns in chilli oil. The prawns were slightly overcooked but they tasted good. The wine selection is good. Their dishes are on the pricey side, so unless you're the one driving the lambo you probably want to save this place for a special occasion.

A average meal at Pomadoro Mornigside , we had calamari staters and a pear salad , for mains we had pasta witch was good not great from the vongolé to the bolognese . The deserts : The chocolate fondant was over done but the crepes and chocolate mouse were great.
Ave R300/ head .
Razmataz
I would say an above average Italian restaurant, quite popular due to their location. Good wines available often the owner will introduce you to some different wines not on the list. Stick to the pizza and pasta, there are better places in the centre for steak, etc. good service and very friendly staff
Jenna Espley-Jones
This is my treat restaurant in every sense of the word. The Pomodoro Ristorante has a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere and delicious, authentic Italian cuisine. Their pizzas and pastas are the perfect comfort food. Pomodoro even manage to make salads exciting and full of flavor! One can't visit this incredible restaurant without trying their homemade egg tagliatelle with a creamy porcini mushroom, saffron and whisky sauce followed by their decadent Chocolate Mousse with berries. Love love love this place!

I had dinner at this lovely establishment last week Tuesday the 05 January 2016 around 20:00. The ambiance was great and I was looking forward to a great dinner after serious gym session.

Both my friend and the waiter suggested that I order the fish with a side of spinach as i was focused on the new years resolutions of staying healthy and trim. Unfortunately within minutes of finishing my plate I started feeling unwell (stomach cramps and all). I immediately took something for the stomach cramps however the reaction continued well into the night until the very next day where I failed to make it to work. This was further exasperated when I woke up with a serious rash all over my face and it was also swollen (I have the pics to prove it).

A quick visit to the chemist and I was furnished with anti inflammatory and allergy medication which has taken it time to heal. To this day (Monday 11 January 2016) i'm still not 100% as I'm recovering from the rash and my skin is peeling.

I am not requesting for anything but just that the establishment pays special attention to how it stores and/or cooks its fish. I am now petrified of eating fish because of this experience.

Stunning place.. Hasn't failed me yet...I think the waiting staff are good.... I go to the this place often I'm big and small groups... It can get a bit noisy on the outside

Decided to try out Pomodoro on recommendation from a friend and I will be back again. I tried the spaghetti carbonara main course, which I did need to add a bit of parmesan and olive oil to, but it was delicious. It wasn't the best part of my meal though, that would go to the lemon tart for dessert which only needed a good coffee to go with it. I was pleased to see the manager walking around with a smile and also smiled myself as he said farewell to an older couple who spoke some words in Italian I wouldn't understand, but it seemed they liked the salmon... perhaps that is the next thing to try. Prices aren't cheap but it's worth paying for quality. I was there at a quiet time during lunch so had no issues with the service.
DebbyGP
Average food and pricey for a plate of pasta. Service is ok but waiters don't seem too excited to be there. The interior of the restaurant is lovely and intimate. I've been twice with large parties and no one complained about the food but no one raved about it either. The pastas are average and needed a bit more salt. Wouldn't be in a rush to go back if I wanted Italian.
Travis
A very popular restaurant offering a number of good dishes. I tend to choose pasta over pizzas here. My favourite dishes are the ravioli. Service can be a little slow.
Milan
I visited this restaurant on my anniversary. The service was amazing. I had the calamari and prawns for starters, the duck special for main course and pannacotta for desert. The starter and desert were good but the duck was exceptionally amazing. It was the best duck that I have eaten. It was prepared to perfection. I will be visiting the restaurant soon again.

A warm and vibrant Italian restaurant with beautiful settings, okay-ish food and slow service.

Pomodoro provides a wide range of Italian cuisines, their menu is large, extensive and promises something for every diner. We ordered their steak, pasta, burger and pizza. The steak was quite tough (definitely not the medium rare we ordered), the burger was alright but the zucchini was delicious, the pizza was pretty good. The portion of the three pastas we had were all quite substantial, however, I find the taste saturates quite early so I struggled to finish the full portion. (As the owner suggests, maybe try the starter portion so you can enjoy the desserts more!)

We tried four different desserts: chocolate fondant, panna cotta, almond and honey tart and chocolate mousse. The tart was quite dry and dense, the fondant was delicious and has a nice running centre. The panna cotta was a little too soft but delicious nonetheless, probably my favourite of the night.

We visited Pomodoro on a super busy Friday night. The restaurant was packed and maybe a bit too busy as the service was slow and we could barely hear each other speak. There are many diners so the noise levels can become quite a conversation killer for larger tables. I suggest coming here with 2-4 people and wouldn't recommend a table more than 6.

Bottomline: The food did not entice me that much so I might come back for lunch, but probably not dinner.

Pros: large portion, pretty settings
Cons: loud, slow service
Sheetal300
We were looking for a place to eat in Sunday evening and this is one of the few places that is open. Great food - the focaccia was abundant. We ordered the tagliatelle with mushroom, saffron and whisky sauce and pizza. Both tasted delicious!
The food is on the more expensive side, but worth eating here again !
Johan Brits
Very good italian option for the area, even JHB in general. Delicious pizza and very "traditional" atmosphere. The staff could be better trained but they are very friendly and helpfull.

The one comment I can make is that the Sangria is very overpriced and below average in quality.
Alexcaige
Great service, had a pizza and was well done, the Avo was a little small and not the freshest. But overall great vibe and food. Try sit outside on a summer night and enjoy the breeze.
Iman Haffajee
Hubby orders a (simple) Magherita Pizza weekly and it is one of the better quality ones around..lots of cheese, rhin crust and fresh. The basil mash is so delicious ..especially when paired with the Falklands calamari. Ive also had the prawn risotto (rich..but worth the over indulgence)
Chris Wilson
I have been to Pomodoro various times for both lunch and dinner. Brilliant atmosphere with authentic, home cooked food. Service is good as well as great waiters who are very knowledgeable. Always a nice selection of specials on offer and the risottos are excellent.

Situated in a very upmarket area, but the restaurant disappointed greatly in comparison with surrounding restaurants. I ordered a chicken breast with chips, and when it arrived I seasoned my chicken and chips with salt and pepper. After my first few bites, the waiter took my plate out under me and said it was the wrong order. He gave my (half-eaten) plate to someone else and 5 minutes later he brought me another chicken breast and chips. Food was not very tasty anyway, there are many other nice restaurants close by to rather try.

If you need a good restaurant to go to for a quick meal with friends or the family you'll have a good experience here. The pasta is always good - try the steal tartare (very good).
John Risk Golding
My friends and I came through for the latest instalment on our dinner club and we were properly impressed by the food. Personally I thought that it was fantastic.

I ordered the pork belly which was absolutely fantastic. Truly. It had all the necessary crunch from the crackling and the tenderness of meat which had been cooking for an incredibly long time. The focaccia as a starter was also pretty tasty which a drizzling of balsamic. My friends also seemed to absolutely love their individual dishes! The service was great and the atmosphere just perfect. They have a great inside section which was warm and toasty considering the cold and rain outside!

Would definitely recommend and can't wait to come back!
Michelle Levy
Lovely decor and beautifully set tables, with warm heaters for the cold weather. Service is good and waiters and management friendly.
As we sat down they brought some delicious focaccia bread which I thought was a nice touch. We ordered the L'insalata mista all'Italiana, which was a salad with lettuce, avo, mushrooms, baby tomato, carrot shavings and robiola cheese with balsamic vinegar dressing. It looked very nice but I felt it had far too much lettuce. I didn't like the balsamic dressing as I could taste the mustard which I personally don't like, but this is just my personal taste. My BF felt the same.
For the main we ordered the Le tagliatelle al ragu, which was home made egg tagliatelle with veal and beef bolognese ragu. This was enjoyable, an okay portion.
Lisa Van Vuuren
Was at Pomodoro for lunch this week, and it was an excellent experience! Great food that arrived quickly even though the restaurant was packed, friendly and efficient waitstaff and a manager/owner who makes it a priority to make sure everyone's happy. I'll be back for sure

For our next installment of our dinner club, we decided to try Pomodoro Ristorante. It had a nice look to it, it has been well decorated. The staff are friendly but I did find it to be a little slow when it came to getting our food.

I had the spinach and ricotta ravioli in a napolitana sauce, it was very tasty. I also tasted the prawn risotto special which had great flavour. Overall it was a lovely meal.
Nikita
I visited Pomodoro this weekend with my family and we were thoroughly impressed! We are Italian and, naturally, rather fussy when it comes to Italian food. The food we ordered, however, was really authentic and reminded us of our late gran's cooking. All the meals were really lovely , but the dish that truly struck a chord with us was their lamb ragu rigatoni (it was on their specials menu). Truly delicious!
We also tried the grilled salmon (also delicious) , and their linguini with ricotta , pancetta and cherry tomatoes (really tasty, but a little bland after trying the lamb ragu).
The desserts were OK nothing too special , although the ice-cream in the affogato was really delish!

All in all, it was a lovely experience and we will be back!

(NOTE: Pomodoro is DEFINITELY a bit on the pricey side ... so beware)
Claire BO
Good service. Warm, cosy atmosphere. Upmarket Italian restaurant with good old classics on the menu. The fish is always delicious. The pizza never disappoints and the variety of chicken, veal and other dishes provide a great menu to choose from. Prices are reasonable. If you're in Morningside this is a great dining spot to try.
Fournier Dassil
I love it for its pizzas, pastas specially thé spaghetti alla scoglio (fresh tomato, olive oil, herbs,...), and no comment about thé chocolate mousse!!! Thé service is good, not long at all. Very good Italian table😋😋😋
Adrian Shannon
I have eaten here many times since it moved from Rivonua. The service is usually good and the food is always great. A good spot for authentic Italian cucina..
Nicky Wood
Went here for supper- a big disappointment . The food took an age to arrive, had to ask for ice twice and that took longer than the food . I had prawn penne and played hunt the prawn meat- very little there. We then ordered tea - mine was lukewarm .Dessert was crepes which were nice and almond tart which was very dry and so hard I couldn't break it with my spoon and had to use a knife and fork. The wine was nice though! Not inspired to go back for a second visit.
Maxine Gunzenhauser
When you feel like a night of some fine Italian dining, this is the place to go. Their pastas and divine and they have a lovely selection of wine. Squisito 👌🏻
Sonja Offwood
I visited this restaurant twice in the last week, and had two different experiences. My first visit was for lunch - the service was decent, the food was great ( had the salmon pasta and the oxtail risotto, the chocolate tart and the lemon tart for dessert). Each of the dishes was great and I would order any of them again. My second visit was for dinner a couple of days later. The food itself was still good, however the service left a lot to be desired. We were left alone with our empty plates for about half an hour, and were desperate to order some warm tea. We couldn't even find a waiter to flag down. Slightly disappointing after the pleasant first visit.
Carmen De Jager
Despite the fact that we were banished to a mall due to loadshedding we had an absolutely marvelous time due to the really top notch food at Pomodoro. The grilled hake was done to perfection complimented by the still crunchy but not underdone julienne vegetables. The lemon tart was also good but I would suggest sharing this indulgent treat. A really lovely evening out.
Gugulethu Del'sile Nandi Mdladla
Our server was slow & somewhat disinterested/disoriented. My tagliatelle a ragu was just alright. I expected to be wowed being that Pomodoro is an Italian joint. However, the tagliatelle itself was superb. Friend & I shared a slice of the almond & honey tart & that was prob a good decision as it is a very very sweet dessert - too sweet for one person to eat alone. But an enjoyable dessert nevertheless! Wouldn't rush to return to Pomodoro but wouldn't necessarily be opposed to finding myself there again if circumstances dictated so.
Kimenthra
The staff don't attend to you. The owner cares more about shmoozing with the white patrons and loves to serve attitude rather than apologising for his delinquency. Honestly, you suck.
Cara Spies
I was not blown away by this place, a chicken salad will cost you R100 plus, if you swap cheese for tomatoes. Owners tell you to enjoy your food but don't ask if everything is ok. I love salads and this place doesn't get it right.
Amy Rusike
I can't believe I haven't tried this wonderful Italian spot until now!! A weeknight dinner turned into something special due to the outstanding standard of food and service! The seafood pasta is definitely something to write home about! Fresh seafood in a yummy tomato based sauce! What more could you ask for! The wine list is great with some delicious Italian wines on offer at really decent prices. The panna cotta could easily feed two, but I wasn't sharing 😁 We'll be back here sooner than we think! Yay!
BenSon
The first time we went to Pomodoro, the Porcini mushroom pasta tasted like boiled dehydrated pasta. We tried going again, had grilled calamari for starters and it felt like we were drinking olive oil out of a bottle. We left shortly after. Great meal variety, but poor exucution.
Malcolm MacDonald
Surprisingly excellent. Perfect ribeye. Delicious salad, and excellent sauces. Eaten here once before and was underwhelmed. This visit was superb.
Andrew Forssman
Worst meal I have had in a long time! We have been fortunate to eat in many Italian restaurants local and international and it's safe to say this isn't an Italian restaurant by any stretch of the imagination. Poor quality ingredients badly prepared served by a sulky disinterested waiter. Absolute waste of time and money. Please don't go!
Gina Forssman
What an absolutely dreary meal. How on earth do you manage to pull in people like you do. Do your chefs taste their specials? Unfriendly service. What a dissapointment.

Any place that has buffalo mozzarella automatically becomes a favourite of mine. Yes, it is extremely expensive but after tasting it while I was in Italy, I have absolutely fallen in love with it.

I'm not very adventurous when I come here because I always know what I want. I pizza with buffalo mozzarella, salami, artichokes and olives. When I last had normal mozzarella, I thought it was quite nice that they didn't smother the pizza in cheese so you could at least still taste the toppings. My brother usually has some sort of pasta which he says is good and he says that the spaghetti carbonara can almost be passed off as the one he had in Italy. My dad absolutely loves the calamari and he always sticks to that dish.

The waiters are also very friendly and the service is quite fast.

Pomodoro is situated in a great space, and the restaurant is pretty. The food is nice, although I'd rather go for pizza instead of the pasta next time. The pizza is fantastic, particularly the La Pizza del'odissea. It gets very busy over weekends so book a table to be safe.

Very tasty food - spinach and Gorgonzola risotto was cooked beautifully. Osso buco was cooked slowly so the meat fell off the bone. Sauce needed slightly more flavours but it was still a good meal.

Had a good business lunch. Food was fine for a lunch and portion generous. Prices are also reasonable given location and portions. Waiter was good and I liked that they brought me a new glass with each beer.

With no shortage of good Italian restaurants in the area, my husband and I decided to try Pomodoro one Sunday evening and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. It took a while for us to be seated especially since the restaurant was not busy at all and we had to wait for the menus. The focaccia they bring to the table (after a wait) is a nice touch, but unfortunately all the food we ordered lacked flavour and seasoning and more importantly the aroma of Italian herbs. We sampled the bruschetta, a ravioli and pizza. The ravioli was especially disappointing. The filling was oozing water and the napoletana sauce felt like it had been emptied from a can. The pizza was average and needed a bit more cooking in the centre. For the relatively high prices, the food is a let down and the service leaves more to be desired. It's clear that the food is not tasted before it leaves the kitchen. I would be reluctant to go back in a hurry.

I love this restaurant!! The food is always great, fresh and full of flavor!!! The Chef must hate me, but yet always accommodates me!! I'm a, "if I could have this, with a bit of that" etc!!!

Had a lovely dinner here! Had the tomato bruschetta followed buy prawn linguine pasta! Both were delicious! Had a lovely waiter and an all round enjoyable experience!

Too nice especially their pasta selection, service was wonderful but sloppy in terms of if you wanted to be seated somewhere specific host tends to get flustered. But generally okay place with an awesome menu!

I went to Pomodoro over the eater weekend and ordered a take away L'insalata alla "Pomodoro" which is a Parma ham salad with croutons and tomatoes with a herb dressing , only to get a take away box full of lettuce with a couple of tomatoes and croutons and two lonely pieces of Parma ham. What was I paying R86 for ? Very disappointed and won't go back again!

Great restaurant and great food. The kingklip with pesto was world class and so was risotto. My favorite dinner restaurant in the Morningside center.

Delicious pizza, great and quick service, fresh ingredients, slightly limited menu and slightly over priced. We will be back! Great specials. Pizza is a must!

Went to Pomodoro after about a year. Sad I didn't go sooner. But anyways, I had the calamari with fried spinach, which was very delicious and perfectly cooked. Then on to the tangy lemon tart for dessert, which rounded off a great dinner

During the day Pomodoro always seems a little deserted when compared to the restaurants and bistros next to it, but at night this is the place to be. The entire atmosphere undergoes a metamorphosis and the place becomes cozy and inviting. The waiters are all extremely friendly and the service is unbelievably quick. I didn't reserve a table, and although the place was packed the manager went to extreme lengths to find me a place to sit. The food (although a tad expensive - you won't find a pasta dish below R80 and when you venture into the realms of red meat or seafood the minimum price balloons to R100) is absolutely fantastic. I had the *Insert Italian name here*, which consisted of spaghetti, mussels, prawns and calamari with a delicious *Insert Italian name here* sauce. I decided to treat myself to a bit of desert, and found that I would happily go to war over their honey and almond tart. This is a very nice, slightly expensive, yet cozy restaurant with enough romantic vibes and expensive-looking decor to warrant taking your significant other here on a date.

Haven't been here in years so the recent pop-in was a very pleasant surprise, and the perfect spot for a mid-week dinner. The pizza was the star of the show, but all meals around the table looked incredible including the generous Parma ham salad! Great foccaccia to nibble on before food arrived, and wonderful management team. The menu is large so good choice for larger groups. Will definitely be back!

We have been patronising Pomodoro for a while now. Have never had a bad experience here. Its Italian and authentic Italian because the owner, Stefano is Italian. Look for the off the menu specials. Veal T bone, rib steak. Best linguini with ricotta and panchettta ever! The pear salad is the best ever and the chocolate panacotta's the best in the world. Coupled with really attentive waitrons this is a great every day experience with wonderfull carpark ambiance. Admire your Ferrari while you dine!!

Werner Hess

This is a go to restaurant for a friend and I. Good food and a good wine list. The servers are great. I love it when people remember me and make me feel welcome! A great casual place.

Ifs is a Friday quick supper, or a Saturday lunch with the children, the Pizza is always heavenly. The cheese and tomato base, right to the basic dough, is made with passion which you taste with every bite.
Unfortunately this Friday I went for the tuna pasta and I was not taken by the flavors. I still love going back and it's probably a once off.
This is far from my favorite Italian restaurant in the area. I ordered pizza and I must say that my meal as well as everyone else's took a very long time to come to the table. This is quite irritating. The food itself was very average and overpriced for what you get. I will however visit this place again but I would rather go somewhere cheaper that is better quality with better service.

FOOD
What I love about Pomodoro is that it's main meals are as superb as the pasta and pizza dishes, and I find this is not always the case with Italian restaurants. SOme of my favourite mail meals include the rack of lamb, the chicken stuffed with mascarpone and covered in truffle sauce and the balsamic fillet. The tequila prawn pasta is also a winner of a dish.

SERVICE
I have never come across an unfriendly waiter here. The service is great and the owner of the restaurant always goes around to each table to ensure their experience was a good one.

AMBIANCE
The inside area of the restaurant has a beautiful, modern interior and the outside is relaxed. The outside area is by the parking, which actually gives a great vibe to the restaurant.

This is a special restaurant for me as this is where I asked my wife to marry me. The proposal took place at the original venue of the lovers terrace. Apart from that the food is always amazing at Pomodoro, a personal favourite is the lamb ragu pasta (not always available) and the wood fired pizzas. This is really a Johannesburg restaurant gem.

This place is never ever a disappointment. I love it. The staff is always so friendly and attentive. The menu is not over priced and you get what you want. If you want a good pizza with fresh topping and lots of cheese you get it. If you want proper Italian pasta with tons of sauce, you get it. The desserts are also superb. The crème brulee being my favourite. Whenever we go to Pomodoro I almost always have a pizza. The base is thin and crispy and the amount of mozzarella they add is just right for me. (They don’t cover the whole base in cheese) A great place for a chilled pizza and wine evening.
Adrian Tiplady
Up and down - in general, great service and food. Freshly made pasta every day, although slightly expensive for what you get. Happy to go back as a regular.
Martini
It's the usual Italian fare .
It's in that complex along Rivonia road which i don't think helps create much ambience. One restaurant after another and opening onto each other.
The service was excellent and the waiter knew his business and the items on the menu.
Prices were perhaps on the high side but it's in an expensive location.
I wouldn't steer clear of going there but don't think I'd host a meal there again.
There are better Italian restaurants i think.
The SA Food Guru
Average Italian restaurant with prices exceeding the value of what you get. Unfortunately an authentic or even pretentious Italian ambience is totally absent. The grilled salmon with caper sauce was bland - even though the piece of fish was well sized and of good quality. There was no seasoning added to the dish at all. The Parma ham salad was drenched in a kind of pesto which made it way too rich for a starter. The best thing about the place was their service and espresso. A bit of a let down...

Love the spot, love the food!

Very poor service, in fact shocking! Was meeting a client for business & the waiter proceeded to tell us that since hadn't booked (the place was empty) we need to buy food first before serving drinks! Shocking for a below average restaurant!

Having been to Pomodoro before I know they have an ok menu, serving the usual dishes of pasta and a variety of pizzas. However, today was a very unpleasant experience. If you don't want to run to the bathrooms - which can be a challenge in emergency situations due to the distance - you might want to consider one of the neighbouring restaurants.
Leigh Rushbrook
According to Pomodoro, they might not be willing to seat and serve you if all you want is dessert and coffee. Our waiter was fairly aloof and abrupt once we had informed him that we were there for sweets. The manager was called who advised that he would allow it. We ordered, out of a sense of obligation, ate quickly and left. Not returning.

Pomodoro is one of those go-to restaurants. Which basically what happened to us. We had some plans but instead ended up here for supper. I expected it to be good. Maybe it would be great but I expected good.

I got good. But we will get to that. The vibe here is awesome especially on a Friday. All the restaurants around are quite busy but the acoustics in the centre don't make it feel uncomfortable. The sometimes mismatched furniture also works without being too over the top. Great place for a big group or a date.

So the food. The bread starters were, well, dry but that was okay. I felt for some pasta. In hindsight, this was a bad choice. The veal ravioli was completely underwhelming. Very small portion for a high price with very, very little stand out flavours. The pasta tasted fresh and the meat was good but it just did not work until I emptied the entire bowl of parmesan onto it. However, the chicken was absolutely superb. Brilliantly done with the flavours working extremely well. Will definitely order that (or a pizza when I go there the next time.)

They have a great selection of craft beers and they have Peroni on tap. I would have liked a better selection on tap but that's not something that important.

As with all restaurants like this, this is one of those places you will go no matter what. If you do want a VERY good meal, rather go to Tsunami. But if you just want some Italian, then Pomodoro will do quite well. And order the chicken!

A great place for Italian cuisine. We had a margarita on a gluten free base with extra mushrooms and the linguine pasta in a creamy sauce with mushrooms. The pasta was a bit rich so suggest a starter portion order. I like it when a restaurant serves something to snack on while you wait for your order...the focaccia served with a tomato paste was pleasant. Our coffee order took a bit too long to arrive but the service overall was good. The decor is something to admire so it's a nice place for a special meal out.

On Saturday 12th April, 2014, I decided to pick up a friend and travel North to the Morningside Shopping Centre aiming for the Pomodoro Ristorante. Parking was a bit of a problem, but luckily a spot became vacant almost outside the restaurant (although there was a sign advertising more parking behind the centre). We were met and shown to a table fairly promptly in a full restaurant. The tables are well spread out but ours was right next to a plant with long, spiky leaves at exactly eye level, so we had to move the table and bend the leaves of the plant to avoid injury.
And then we waited, and waited hoping to be given menus and offered drinks from the many waiters that were regularly passing our table. Eventually, I had to flag down a waiter who, most willingly, enquired how he could be of service ..... Once I explained the problem, menus were produced with alacrity and another waiter sent to take our drinks order, but without a wine list - duly requested and produced. The wine list is very extensive but the wines, with very few exceptions, are not cheap. The food prices, on the other hand, are quite reasonable (but forget R250.00 for two people as advertised - more like per person unless you have a pizza and a single glass of wine, maybe).
Again, a waiter had to be flagged down for our food order. I chose the crostini with chicken liver paté (R44.00) and my partner the crostini with ricotta cheese (R47.00). Each consisted of two very generous crostini, so we could try one another's, and they were delicious. For mains (eventually) I ordered the Risotto del Giorno (porcini mushrooms - R115.00) and my partner chose a half potion of Tagliolini al Salmone (R79.00). Again, both delicious and ample servings. The meal was rounded off with whiskey and coffee (when we could attract a waiter's attention!) and then came the long wait for the bill; this time I actually had to get up and look for a waiter. (R540.00 including a 10% tip for friendliness, not attentiveness).
On the whole, very good, reasonably priced food and pleasant, willing waiters when you can attract their attention. The manager was eventually to be spotted at the back of the restaurant being very attentive to his laptop!

We went to Pomodoro for lunch. We ordered a vegetarian calzone and I had a basil pesto and garlic pasta. We also had some focaccia for the table. David served us and was very polite. Food came quickly, was very tasty and well priced. All round good job Pomodoro! The Morningside Centre is quite competitive but I would definitely go back to Pomodoro's

If you're in the mood for delicious Italian food, i highly recommend Pomodoro. They start you off with a delicia Foccacia - soft, yet crispy, drizzled with olive oil and fresh herbs. I opted for a vegetarian calzone, I was in the mood for pizza but wanted something different. Packed with fresh vegetables, the tomato base they use is delicious :-) My colleague opted for a pasta dish and wasn't disappointed either. Unfortunately my phone was dead so I couldn't snap any pics. Service was fantastic, David really took good care of us. Thanks for a great lunch Pomodoro, will be back soon!

Was very excited to visit Pomodoro after receiving a voucher from Zomato. It's conveniently located and seemed pleasant enough.

Booking a table was pretty straightforward - a huge thank-you to Arnold for also arranging a different table for us, despite the request being impromptu.

The place had a Italian farm feel to it, except mixed with a city cafe atmosphere. This is where great wine is made and the local grandpa bakes pizza for everybody on a Sunday evening. It had the atmosphere of an outdoor local gathering-place, except Pomodoro is located within a shopping mall. It is spacious though and well decorated with wooden furniture and loud, happy people drawing from clear or red wineglasses at every turn.

I had the salmon carpaccio as a starter, and veal and beef ragout tagliatelle for main. Both were good, although the carpaccio was far too lemon-y and the pasta wasn't aesthetically appealing.

My other issue was that it seemed like two different waiters were checking on us, almost three seconds apart, which seemed like too much attention was being paid to us and too little paid towards each other.

Our designated waiter was very warm and sweet, which was great.

i was really surprised by the decor, so I think I would go back to Pomodoro, but for a lunch instead.

A lovely Italian restaurant situated in Morningside shopping centre, Jhb, The restaurant is situated in a bustling shopping centre which is quite popular amongst fine diners and the whose who on JHB.
Pomodor has become a favorite dinning place especially for their Salmon pasta. that is: Tagliolini al Salmone : a Homemade egg tagliolini with a smoked salmon, mascarpone and chive sauce. This sells for about R100 as a main portion and the good part is that they also serve it as a starter for approx R75.00.

The menu offers pizza to a selection of pastas, fish and meat. The Tapas Menu / Starters has something to snack on from Parma Ham with fresh mozzarella balls and rocket leaves to Ostrich Carpaccio with rocket, onion and parmesan.
I liked the fact that on the 3-4 occasions I visited, the owner was present. So service is tops.
I made the mistake of ordering a prawn pasta , which I expected to be creamy, and after my disappointment the nice owner, offered me dessert on the house... i think il stick to what I know best..
I have been lucky to buy the Entertainer app, which allowed me to have my last meal, as a buy one get one free deal.

Probably the worst gluten free pizza I have ever eaten. Ok so it was gluten free but even if it wasn't the view from the top with all the toppings was less than to be desired. I'd never go back. Does the picture look appetising... The ham tasted like cheap ham that comes in packs of 100. They charge an extra R25 for some kind of mozzarella that would take the pizza up to R140...... Well I presume it would be better then the cheap cheese on offer.

Growing up in an Italian household with no less than three exceptional cooks makes one a fussy eater, especially when it comes to Italian cuisine. As a result, I always go to Italian restaurants with a great deal of scepticism and almost expect a below par meal. Bearing that in mind, I can confidently say that Pomodoro is now one of my top 3 favourite Italian restaurants in JHB.

The food is consistently good with service to match. In addition to being a fussy eater, I also dislike eating at restaurants in shopping malls (OMG I sound like an old man), however Pomodoro has a lovely ambience. There is a bustle during lunch hour, with a parade of well-heeled Sandtonites, and in the evenings it has a romantic feel to it.

Relaxed atmosphere and good pasta, the waiters are friendly and attentive.

One of the most perfectly prepared fillet steaks I've ever had. Excellent flavour in the Madagascar green pepper sauce.

Pomodoro is a nice Italian restaurant in the Morning Side Shopping Centre. Competition is high in this Centre with Tashas and The Green Peppercorn next door. I visited this restaurant twice in the space of 3 weeks and got rather different impressions. Both was over lunch.

My initial impressions was that the decor was simple with white table cloths and these out of place multi-coloured drinking glasses on each table which I guess should break the white monotony of the rest of the establishment. The restaurant was busy but only the outside area as the inside area was dark and warm.

Upon my first visit I felt that the food was average and the service was bad. We started with doughy focaccia, a Caprice salad and some other mixed salad which I can't find on the menu. The mixed salad was just an abundance of leaves. The Caprice salad lacked flavour as these salad tend to do due to the type of mozzarella they use and the focaccia needed another few minutes in the oven. For mains I had a prawn ravioli (I Ravioli di Gamberi), which was bland until I just added a little bit of seasoning, which somehow brought the dish alive. I hate it when restaurants don't taste the dishes they prepare. For dessert I had the Chocolate Fondant which was really nice except expensive at R79. The service was dismal and the waiter looked as excited to serve us as I was looking forward to going back to work afterwards.

Upon my secret visit the service was really good and our waiter was attentive. We were served with complimentary focaccia which was better than the previous time. I decided to keep things light and to eat the chicken burger off the specials menu. The dish consisted of a chicken breast served with avo, caramelised onions and peppadews with chips and oven roasted rosa tomatoes with a balsamic reduction on the side. Overall the burger was very dry and the caramelised onions weren't caramelised enough as they still had a very sharp onion taste. Maybe the mise en place was out of place on the day. The peppadew added a nice contrast to the dish unfortunately the chefs were quite sparse with it - I guess peppedews are expensive. With slightly more peppadew and sweeter onions the dish could work, except that it needed a bit of a mayonnaise or sauce to add to the texture.

My overall impression of Pomodorro wasn't too bad but I wouldn't rave about it. At least I could eat all the food and certain dishes were good. I doubt if I will visit soon as the food doesn't compare to the competitors in the Centre.

Lovely. Classy, good food, good service, lovely vibe. We went on a Saturday night and it was full - for good reason. It's not cheap, but you're pretty much guaranteed a lovely experience - especially if it's a lovely evening and you can sit outside.

This "fairly commercialized looking restaurant" in this "very commercialized looking complex" provides some amazing food and service. Even just their margarita pizza tastes impressive. Their tomato base is really good. I haven't had anything else other then pizza, so I can't comment on any other dishes. I do consider it one of the places to revisit, and to me that means a lot.

Situated in Morningside we decided to give Pomodoro a shot . With options to sit inside & out , the restuarant has a lively atmosphere especially om Summer nights. Service is good.
Like many Italian Restuarant the menu has everything you would expect! I ordered the chicken pizza , although the pizza was great , was disappointed with little chicken shreds as opposed to proper strips/ chunks, hence the chicken flavours never came through. Not sure of the other meat options on the menu but I'd stay away from all chicken options. My wife had the tomato based Napoletana which was sour probably due to the tomatoes . On the whole food was good & I'd definitely give Pomodoro a second chance. Given it a shot perhaps ask the waiter on your choice and what you could expect before ordering .

I went to Pomodoro earlier this year and to say I was a fan would have been an understatement. Considering that I deemed its Pizza "The Best" we went back to try it. We were very disappointed. The pizzas were very average. The bases weren't cooked properly, mine was relatively tasteless, there were no herbs or spices... the only saving grace was the creamy, gooey mozzarella on top. I also had a side salad, if you can call a bowl of lettuce with 2.5 baby tomatoes in it a salad. Attempting to save the meal we shared the tiramisu. It looked great but it was just fine. A little soggy, a little tasteless. Well the atmosphere and the service were reasonable, I think I will give this a skip in future.

Situated in the trendy Morningside Shopping Centre, relaxed atmosphere with some great dining experiences. Food was top quality and very enjoyable, however a tad pricey on some dishes, especially some desserts as well as the cabernet sauvignon by the glass which we had, though excellent. Service was equally impressive. Noticed there was a beer fridge with the likes of &Union craft beer and Sol, a refreshing touch in an upmarket restaurant. Desserts are unique, but as mentioned some are pricey for the serving size. Equally unique side dishes, definitely worth a bash. Overall good lunch dining experience.

I had a really pleasant time when I had dinner here with my parents. We all had pasta dishes and all of us were pretty pleased. Nothing phenomenal or out of this world but we enjoyed our meals. The staff were very friendly and attentive even though the restaurant was quite busy. Overall it was quite pleasant. I think I would prefer this restaurant during the day, as I find restaurants in malls a little off in the evenings.

Had to send my steak back twice, one of the pasta dishes - pasta was very under done... And expensive R22 for a shot of Smirnoff vodka - eish!

Hi all, Went to POMODORO ( Morningside shopping complex) for Dinner last week and food was not very good, staff was very professional and friendly but the food was just average.

The design of the place is just incredible. The pizza and the services provided by the staff is just awesome. I enjoyed some good tasty flavours of pizza that were new to me, the other thing I liked is that there's a variety of spices provided for those who're in love with spicy meals.

As mentioned above, the place is awesome, fresh air and soft, relaxing, mellow background music to keep you entertained through the journey of pizza or pasta.

Nice place, try it out!!!

I absolutely love coming here for dinner. The staff are friend;y and the service is quite good.

We normally order a foccaccio bread to start and it's so good! It's always fresh and crispy. Always a great way to start a meal.

My favourite dish is the ravioli filled with prawns. It's absolutely delicious! My husband usually has the veal ravioli and it's also so tasty! The food is always fresh and of the highest quality. The pizzas are also divine. They are thin crusted and crispy! The desserts are DELICIOUS!!!! We normally have the chocolate volcano. I LOVE chocolate and this is perfect for me. The perfect way to end off the meal. The panna cotta is also divine. It's so smooth!

The wine list os also good, a little bit expensive but you'll find something for yourself.

It's always very vibey here as there's a few restaurants in a row. We usually book to avoid being disappointed.
