Review Spiga - Morningside

First time visiting Spiga, everyone that lives in Durban raves about how good the food is here, and they did not disappoint. The pastas were on point, very tasty and cooked to perfection. Large portions for the price. Definitely recommend the place if you visiting Durban. There is also a nice park across the road with a mini zoo and lovely gardens to walk around after the meal.

Service was amazing. Our waitress was knowledgeable about the menu, so when I told her what I wanted she combined 2 dishes to make me exactly what I wanted. It came out divine. Hubby also loved his food. Atmosphere was good but started getting cold.. which didn't last long because they turned on the heaters and it became comfortable in no time. Will definitely be going there again. Cheers to the Spiga team.

Still a true gem of Durban. Amazing food, warm service and lovely joyful atmosphere. Grateful to have such a special place to enjoy!!

Popped in for a quick takeaway and was promptly assisted. Both food and service was really good and really enjoyed the vibe of the outdoor deck whilst waiting for my order. I look forward to returning for a sit down experience.

I visited Spiga on a random Friday night after having driven down to Durban from Johannesburg. We were staying in Musgrave and had no idea where to go for dinner. My brother recommended this place and it didn't disappoint especially after a 6 hour drive. I don't know if it ever gets cold in Durban but the breeze on the night wasn't a factor because this inviting restaurant has indoor and outdoor heating. There was a family next to our table wearing shorts in June. So you'll probably be fine if your underdressed. To eat we went for the Spicy Salami Pizza and my partner had the Penne Romana. The pizza was good but the pasta really made me give this place five stars. The Romana sauce paired with well cooked and seasoned penne and mushrooms will make any date night a memorable experience. I don't usually order pasta when I am out because most of the time I feel like I could have done it better at home. But Spiga's pasta is well worth it. The service was friendly and also helpful when I didn't know what wine to have. The house red is well worth it if you just want something to go with the meal. My only criticism is that they didn't have locally produced sparkling water. I am not that big on san pellegrino water because restaurants just charge a fortune for it. Total spend for two was under R500 with a take away tiramisu and the two glasses of wine so good value for money. Spiga you win my vote.

This is such a great place for a relaxed dinner date or for those work team buildings. We had a blast. Our waitress Faith was amazing and made us laugh any chance she got. She recommended good drinks and food. She is definitely a star🌟. The only issue would be that the restaurant is in high demand and unfortunately it not big enough to fit all patrons looking to buy. So, I guess y'all have to get here early

Service was quick. Waiters and waitresses were nice and friendly. Only that our original waiter disappeared. We waited for a bit of time wthout anyone coming to us. We had to call another lady to wait on us. But otherwise everything else was good.

Awesome, Awesome experience! It was my first at Spiga, and I must say, it was an amazing restaurant. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and the food was scrumptious. I Reserved a table the day before and got a really nice spot. I do think the portion sizes could be bigger though, other than that, definitely coming back. Shoutout to Busi, our waiter 🙌

What an absolute disaster! The day will come soon when spiga wonders why their business is dying. The lack of care ultimately always kills a business. Disinterest in the abysmal experience permeated from waitress to management. It is sad when such a iconic establishment becomes a shell of its former self. Came here under duress after explaining how this place had become a joke. After this meal all 10 people now understand why I had reservations about coming. The rained out comedy show forced our hand and I hoped for the best. 1. Waitress messed up our orders after her snotty remarks about not writing down orders. Two guests received no food at all. Excuse from waitress was that kitchen was having an ‘off day’ 2. We had to ask for cutlery, plates and salt and pepper. The waitress was never around. 3. The roof leaks 4. The plates and glassware was duty. The excuse from the waitress was that it came out of the machine that way. 5. All of this was brought to the managers attention. Seriously the last time at any branch of this sad shell of itself.

Having gone to Spiga Florida road numerous times over the years, my friends n I were very disappointed with our meals. 2 of us ordered the Chicken Alla Roma pasta which was so bland, the chicken tasted boiled, no flavour at all and we did advise the waiter that we wanted spicy. After adding 2 boils of chillie, sadly it still tasted bland. My other friend ordered a Mexican pizza which had no chillie but a ton of mushrooms, btw Mexican pizzas dont usually come with mushrooms. We did bring this to the waiter and manager's attention and we were given one free Cosmopolitan for our disappointing meals but when the bill came, they charged us for 2 x chillie, which we refused to pay for but the waiter guilted us into paying as he said he has to pay for it now. Why r we even paying for chillie that comes on the table with the garlic in those lil bowls. We wont bother going there again....

I was there on 27 May. The food was bad. Definitely not your money's worth. R120 each per person. A large pizza with like 6cubes on chicken and thinly sliced avocado with the least amount of cheese. Should have went to debonairs and got a triple Decker for that price. Same with the pasta. R87 for a portion and you have to add R25 more if you want chicken. There were more peppers in the pasta than chicken. Terrible and it was daughter's birthday. Disappointed

It's been 2 weeks since my complaint regarding poor service, the owner Marco had requested my number and I'm still waiting to hear from him. I guess I should apologise to the staff for commenting on your poor service, it seems you've learnt it from your current management… If the owner is not concerned with poor service why should the staff?

I know no place in Durban as consistent as good ole Spiga. The food, the drinks, the company, the cosmopolitan set, the amazing looking staff who give stellar service. When you want a good meal and can't be bothered with dress up and reservations, they are it

I am always happy with the service at Spiga, since 2008 or 2009 when this place was opened and now I am no longer a Durbanite since moved to Johannesburg but whenever I am visiting Durban I pop in... I think the interior of the restaurant has improved however more can still be done on food since the quantity of food does not match the price. Nevertheless I am still impressed with Spigas keep up the good work...

Don’t take a telephonic order and only prepare the order once a customer arrives for collection. We got there 25 minutes after placing the order only to have to wait another 30 minutes for the order. We were offered to have the pizza brought to our car outside once ready in “5 minutes” but instead we were called to collect at the counter. Pathetic service.

I was served Cold Lasagna, and the waiter wasn't giving us any attention, I had to shout when ever I needed something. I've been to Spiga before and it was lovely, but yesterday's service was Baaad.
