Review Empire Burger Co - Morningside

I enjoy this type of burger that is a little different from the usual fast food style. They're very similar to the burgers from BGR on Keyes Ave in Rosebank. I also enjoyed the ice tea that isn't too sweet as well as their waffles. Also tried their veggie chilli chips but I don't think their chips do it justice. They're the bigger cut chips but are not "slap" chip style so was a bit dry with not sufficient coating from the chilli. Otherwise the service was great and the place is done up nicely. Vegans are out of luck but vegetarians have a great option of a mushroom filled with cheese burger. Those who don't eat beef also have a mutton burger option.

Oh mama yes! The most delicious burger I've tasted. Super soft bun, flavourful patty, and tasty mayo! Fresh ingredients, and nicely packaged. And really competitively priced! This place is so underrated. The ice tea wasn't really my cup of tea (ha), but I'm not used to unsweetened tea. Definitely would recommend!

The chips some of the best I have had in a while and the hamburgers are tasty (so well done kitchen) but the front of house staff must be the most depressed/ despondent I have encountered in a long while, not a good sign (so not so well done management)

I ordered a burger and fries through Mr D, and it was the most delicious burger I've had in a long time. Just the right amount of flavour, especially in the patty. I'll be ordering soon again, wow it was so amazing and filling and reasonably priced!

Eaten here about 4 times and it has never let me down. Has great food and home brewed ice tea is amazing. Would suggest the the double rocky burger since that is the best in my opinion but the others are great also. The burgers here are easily in my top 3 spot of all time

At Empire Burger you will find tasty, unpretentious burgers made with care and quality ingredients. Besides the delicious, mouth watering burgers like the Rocky you will find freshly made fries, soft on inside and crispy on outside, excellent cold brew coffee, the best ever homemade ice tea in Lemon or Berry flavour. The prices are very reasonable, service is excellent and the overall experience is a winner. Its our favorite stop for a Burger and Chips....oh and they make waffels and milkshakes and you can get ice cold beer on tap. 10 out of 10.

I had the absolute privilege of having one of these burgers last night and honestly I've had to restrain myself from ordering two more for breakfast. The burgers are outstanding and my god the ice tea made my entire week. Will definitely be back very soon.

a patty that isn't perfectly round, with crispy bits all over. a delicious bun. crispy chips and an iced tea that isn't 90% sugar. and spending the extra money on a large combo (R3 extra!!) is well worth it. it's not easy to find a decent burger and chips for a decent price in jhb, so i'm pretty happy with this.

The burger I had was really nice, shop is modern and clean with very friendly and helpful staff, burger looked like poster picture and tasted just as good, well priced. I will definitely be going back there

I queued 10 minutes to order, people who ordered after me got served before me. <br/><br/>Our burgers were given to someone else.<br/><br/>When the staff noticed the mistake, it was 30 minutes we ordered and paid and were brought cold burgers... <br/><br/>Won’t go back until the service becomes at least normal.

I had a burger from here through Mr D. I got the Rocky Burger. The bun was fresh and the garnishing and sauce was great. The bacon was a bit chewy though. It was ok, though I doubt that I'll be back.

Had 30 minutes to spare for lunch while in the morningside area. Stopped over at the wedge to find a place for a really quick lunch. Headed into this joint which was nice, clean and very minimalist. Since I’m on Keto I ordered the double Empire burger with no bun, it came very nicely presented. The meat was of good quality and tasted great however I did find that the added ground salt made the burger a little too salty since it also had bacon. Overall I was happy with the value for money that this place offers.

One of the best burgers in Joburg. It taste very similar to the New York famous Shake Shack burger. Highly recommend the Rocky. This is my number one burger joint in Joburg now.

I’ve been passing this outlet on my way to Woolies for more than a year now. I decided to try today. Wow! The rocky burgher was amazing and my kids loved waffles. <br/>Awesome service from the staff.

Been a regular since Empire opened. Fresh ingredients and delicious combos. My fav is the empire burger. Staff are extremely helpful and friendly. If we are not eating at the store, we are ordering off ubereats. Totally obsessed! <br/><br/>The only criticism I can give is the fact that they took off the English muffin options from the menu. Please bring them back, they were great breakfast options :)

Note: Take away review. <br/><br/>My husband and I decided to order something to eat and we heard about Empire so we decided to try it since it wasn’t a bad drive. <br/><br/>My husband ordered the Empire and the Foxy to taste. I ordered the Joe combo. <br/><br/>The Foxy is a grilled chicken breast which had a lovely taste, full of flavor, and not dry. <br/><br/>The Joe was a beef burger which was delicious (Dare I say it reminded me of Rocomamas before it was bought over by Spur).<br/><br/>The chips were fried correctly, however I would have liked a spice on the chips, but it’s not a train smash. <br/><br/>The iced tea on the other hand wasn’t my favorite. It was from the tap which isn’t an issue for me, but the berry flavor is a syrup that was squeezed into the iced tea. Too much ice is used and diluted the flavor of not drunk immediately....<br/><br/>...but I went there for the burger and it was delish. I would definitely be ordering burgers from here in future.

27.12.2018 Tried out the new Empire Burgers and the recently renovated Wedge Shopping Centre. I was excited to see a Mutton Burger on the menu instead of the usual Beef or Chicken options. I ordered the Mutton Burger with the Empire Mayo Fries.<br/><br/>I liked the taste of the Mutton Patty as it had a spice kick to it, but I don’t think it is worth it for the price. (Compared to other burger places we recently visited) It’s a rather small burger as the patty is quite thin, would prefer it a bit bigger. I am like many people. I know I should pack lunch but I never do. So thank goodness for places like Empire Burger. With their good value for money burger combo I have been saved at lunch times!<br/><br/>I am too lazy to drive anywhere so I just order in. I have ordered for Uber eats and from my Delivery. Both times the food has arrived in a adorable box with the ice tea sealed so no spills.<br/><br/>I ordered the Rocky burger both times and the burger has been exceptional. Fresh and tasty! The tea is perfectly balanced and not too sweet. Very refreshing in this awful heat.<br/><br/>My only issue is the chips. They can be a little under done and have zero salt or seasoning on them. I have to add salt to be able to eat them. If they could add a secret spice blend or even just plain salt to the better cooked chips then they will have me there every single day.<br/><br/>I look forward to ordering again to check the progress ;)

Found a gem...😃 my guys and i heard about this place so we decided to try them for lunch today. Firstly their staff are super helpful. Then we received our order. They looked fantastic, but OMG they were out of this world super good. Fresh and tasty. No guilt burgers as my double was amazing... Will be a regular for sho!!!

Absolutely love these Burgers. My favourite is a Rocky Double with an added egg. Oh my goodness it's to die for. You have to visit this place. Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff....

Not much need to be said besides their burger is EPIC, seasoning on their patty is perfect and not drenched in sauce. 4 stars cause of their fries, deff could do some work. Lemon tea is also well balanced and not too sweet!

Great burgers on brioche buns!!! The bestest! Also tried the waffle with cream. All freshly made and delicious. Very well priced compared to similair offerings.

Amazing all round - the food is so good that we are now regulars.. kills any of the competition:) this is the closest you will find to the great American burgers, Ultra fresh and tasty and really reasonable as well - please keep up the great work and quality

I would rate this restaurant a 3.7. We had the empire and rocky burgers with chips and ice tea. The burgers were good and tasted fresh. The chips were unfortunately oily and didn’t taste great.

This place reminds me of a classic burger joint. But wow it is amazing! <br/><br/>Burgers taste homemade, buns are delicious and brioche like, mayo and toppings are fresh and on point! Accompanied by great chips and not sweet iced tea! <br/><br/>Best burger joint ive been to in JHB outside of a restaurant <br/><br/>And the best part? Its very well priced and in the same price range as other chain take aways<br/><br/>Will be back for the breakfast buns and waffles!

Excactly what we need. A back to basics burger spot. Small menu absolutely jam packed with flavorful burgers. Super fresh, super tasty! Ice teas and cold brew coffees are also made on site. So they aren't loaded with sugars and preservatives.

Walked in to a friendly greeting from the cashier, she recommended the combo which my was right up my ally. Burger, hand cut chips & homemade berry or lemon iced tea. I asked for my patty to be medium-rare but sadly it wasn’t. Seems like the patties are too thin to be cooked to varied doneness. Overall a good experience and I’ll definitely be back... did someone say Belgium waffles?! 😱😍 sidenote: I do think the packaging needs branding and perhaps sustainable straws could be used and recycled & paper cups rather than #singleuse plastic

I am a human being that absolutely adore a brilliant burger and Empire has a brillllliant burger. Not to mention how great their burgers wash down with an iced coffee. This is going to become a household proudly South African brand!

My wife and I visited Empire to buy a hamburger for lunch. Seeing that it was a new burger joint, we were more curious than hungry to see what was on offer. By nature, maybe more by choice, we are not fans of pizzas or burgers; though my wife loves it. When we entered the store we were caught off guard, but were in awe of the marvelous interior view (definitely the most eye catching burger joint I've ever seen) of the store. The cleanliness, freshness, colour and lighting was exquisite. I also have to congratulate you on the neatness and friendliness of the staff, save the fact that it was obvious they were still new and learning. Although the burger I ordered was only the baseline, (a week later I bought the flagship Empire Burger), it was sufficient enough to judge the quality of the product. The presentation, smell, taste and freshness were of high quality - honestly the best I've tasted anywhere. After we indulged I could feel I ate something, and there were no bad aftertaste as one would experience with burgers from other well known burger joints. At first I was very skeptical about the coffee or Cold Brew and I am NOT a fan of ice coffee or coffee shakes, but was pleasantly surprised at the taste, and can now recommend it to others. There was no overwhelming coffee taste or bad aftertaste in the mouth. Hereby I thank you for this experience we had. You are on the right track!

When one mentions burgers, there's often an eye-roll or a quick dismissal about the subject. Not in this case. I was pleasantly surprised with the food. The menu is simple but actually delivers on taste and quality... I honestly think this place is underrated. The food was delicious and got me smiling. Try it out and you'll be smiling too!
