Review 22 Church Street - Montagu

The restaurant has an old farmhouse charm with clean contemporary feel. The service is warm and friendly making for an overall cozy experience. Food was homely and delicious and beautifully presented. Welcome mosbolletjies was a winner. We had the duck starter as well as Aranchini both flavourful and pretty. For mains we had a decent lamb rump and fillet which was presented with a marrow bone and a lovely pepper sauce. Broccolini side was lovely and the salad had quite a punchy flavour profile which my husband loved (I do prefer a cleaner more subtle salad, but this comes down to personal taste.) For dessert we had the malva, which might just be the best I ever had, served with custard and condensed milk ice cream served on a honey comb crumble. 👌🏼 This will definitely be our first dinner stop when we visit Montagu again.

Absolutely incredible food, freshly prepared and served beautifully. The chef clearly knows her food - we had such an array of delicious food with unexpected combinations. The venison and melon starter was superb. The rich, smoky game contrasted gorgeously with the melon. The short rib of beef fell off the bone and was complemented by the quince and mash. The trio of South desserts was sublime. The restaurant is warm and cosy. The decor is lovely. The welcome by the staff was very friendly and service was superb. Absolutely worth a visit.

What a little gem! Place is popular so be sure to make a reservation. We had the Karoo Lamb rump, and our taste buds were blown away. Highly recommended restaurant.

All I really can say is - wow! The food is absolutely stunning. I've eaten here multiple times, but this last occasion took the cake. Starters - dumplings. My first time having dumplings, they had a Tuesday special menu. They were squishy, damp and silky shapes filled with pork meat and other ingredients. We had soy sauce, a spicy sauce and pickled cucumber on the side. With our own wooden chopstick sets. Mains - I had chicken curry and my partner had a crumbed chicken burger. The chicken curry wasn't my personal favourite, but it was my mistake ordering it when I know I don't like chicken curry. My boyfriend couldn't even finish his chips and burger, because of tbe portion size (and we had starters). I was super jealous of his burger. I've had the wagyu burger before, though. After mains, I had to crunch a few numbers quickly because it was the day before payday and I wanted to spoil myself and my partner and decided to spend my last couple hundred on an amazing dining experience - I will never regret it, worth every penny! Anyway, dessert - malva pudding. This was the best dessert of my LIFE! Malva pudding with honeycomb, homemade custard, fruit pieces and condensed milk ice cream. I'm regretting saying 'yes' to sharing the plate with my partner, but that's the only regret I have regarding that evening. You won't regret it. Feel free to go there, even if you have to save a few bucks every week if you're a student like me. The chef is amazing, the waitresses are super friendly and the food is divine!

As space is limited, best that you make a reservation. Delicious food and great wine options most from the region. The customer service was good, everyone was friendly.

A wonderful evening. Our party of four had Fillet and Ribeye. Cooked to perfection. Our sides were chips, mash potatoes and carrots. Sauce was mushroom. Food was excellent. Very well priced. Unfortunately we were too full to have the recommended malva pud. Definitely will be back.

Wow. Had dinner with my family last night in Celebrating my moms 50th. The food was perfect, even the couple next to us poured down suggestions. Staff was welcoming and friendly and even allowed us to bring in a cake, they made our celebration feel well celebrated. Highly recommended if you looking for a romantic dinner, or just a decent filling meal with some class. And I loved the setting, felt so homey. Thank you so much guys!
