Review Buonissimo! - Modderfontein

We visited for a quick lunch, The restaurant is situated at the end next to the Pick n Pay clothing, there's plenty inside and outside seating, inside the restaurant it feels a little gloomy so I understand why many people prefer sitting outside, the decor is okay. On the flip side, the menu is mouthwatering! There's a nice variety of meals including vegetarian ones. We ordered a pizza, and you are allowed to go half and half on ANY pizza, which is super convenient. All pizzas come in medium or large. Nevertheless, the pizza was so delicious that there weren't leftovers. Definitely by far thee best vegetarian pizza I've eaten. We took advantage of half and half pizza, and we ordered Verde and Rustica. For the quality of food, the pricing is also not bad. If you're in the area and feeling for that taste of Italy, then pay them a visit.

The pizza was delicious! The outside speaker was a bit distorted so conversations were a little challenging. I love that it is dog friendly and the staff are friendly.

Authentic and delicious Italian Pizzas! Friendly staff. Aesthetically pleasing décor and restaurant. Must try for anyone in the Edenvale, Kempton Park, or Joburg area! Especially if you're a pizza fanatic!

It was our first time eating at your restaurant. We loved everything about it. The pizzas were out of this world. Service was brilliant and Belinda was very friendly. We appreciated her services. This is going to be one of our favourite corner

It is always a great time, especially during quiz nights on Tuesdays!

The customer service, food, drinks, vibe, atmosphere and positive energies throughout the restaurants establishment. All surpasses my expectations every time. 🙏👏💪. Got to give it up to my man for expanding dinning space. However, in doing so, creating a bar area "perfect touches", adding comfortable dinning spaces. Mostly, they added toilets!! My favorite. Hahahaha.... A 100% Buonissimo! Who transformed Flamingo shopping centre.🦩 & The best spot. Keep it up 💪🙏👍

My wife and I just got back from working 6 weeks in the bush and wanted to go for a meal, OMG the pasta and pizza are the best thing we have tasted in 6 weeks, best food ever. Thanks

On Saturday 4 February 2023, we had lunch at a quaint little Italian restaurant called Buonissimo... Staff are friendly & the food is amazing!

Great place, great food! I had gniocci and two cocktails and have to say the entire family was very impressed. The environment is friendly and clean, I would definitely recommend them as a family restaurant.

Never thought I'd ever love a pizza more in my life. Friendly and well trained staff. Wholesome atmosphere.

Always good pizza and great service. Could improve on the time it takes to get the pizza out, but I suppose you don't really want to rush a good thing. At least there are some yummy complimentary pizza sticks while you wait!
Lara Mc Henry
Their Melanzana panini has my heart, absolutely delicious every time! The service is amazing and everything is really clean. 100% recommend! The prices are really reasonable and the staff are amazing Well done guys!
Alisia Berrington
Really impressed with the food quality and the knowledagble staff (they recommended some Italian beer and were spot on with the recommendation) . You can taste that the pasta is freshly made! There are not many Italian restaurants in Jhb that can truly call themselves authentic Italian. This was a great lunch and we will definitely be back!

We used to love going to this restaurant, however today was just aweful.

The owner handled the situation in a bad manor to.

We ordered our drinks and all was good, then we ordered 3 panini rolls, they not so difficult to make however they took more than half an hour to get to us and were cold when they got to the table, we requested to speak to the manager who took the Panini's and warmed them and brought them back to the table, when we tried to eat them they were as hard as a rock, tasteless and oily.

The owner in a rude manor told us that on their menu it states that "good food takes time to prepare" and promtly started fighting with us about it because they had a big party inside and a huge order had come before ours which they were more focused on. She then said the meal was on the house and left the table....no apologies from her or the staff

It will be a long time before we go back to this establishment, if at all

It tastes like real Italian Pizza!
Their dough is heavenly and the tomato paste must be a family recipe. A must try for ALL pizza lovers. They also have the most devine, freshly squeezed juices!
Matthew Koury
The service here is terrible.

They took forever to bring menus to the table and even longer to take our orders. When the drinks order eventually arrived, they left out one of the drinks and one of our party had to wait even longer for their order.

Complaints didn’t go very far with the management either.

Won’t be coming back here again!

Went to the new premises last night. Really a lovely evening out, good food, well priced and a lovely setup.
Service a little on the slow side and would be great to see a manager at the table occasionally. Get a drinks menu and a little music and I'll give you a 5 the next time we come through which will be soon!
Gerald B Lau
Lovely selection of pizza and pasta's - all freshly made. Don't forget to save space for the desserts and the "larger than normal" cuppacino.
Mr. Family Man
I had lunch at their new venue by the Flamingo Shopping Center and it is a very nice, highly recommended place.
We ordered some paninis for lunch and they were very tasty. I will definitely come back. Only one thing: you have Italian beer on tap, which is quite nice, but pricey!
Megz Skye
Have had several different pizza's, absolutely superb! Delicious light, crisp, fresh base. Pasta are home made, amazing! Sauces are tasty and really great. Thank you for a lovely meal.

I dream about these pizza's-honestly the best pizzs's in town! It is a great environment with great shop owners who provide you with the best service and quality! When watching my weight, the Bella Salad is fantastic! Thank you Buonissimo!

Fresh ingredients, polite staff, mouth watering menu. The only 3 things that should matter to a foodie. Also, exactly how I'd describe this Italian heaven. Definitely looking forward to trying out their vast range of dishes. Perfetto!!

I heard a lot about this place from a friend we have been putting it off as it is always full. Today we had a gap, Excellent food and service at a very reasonable price. One very happy and full customer.

Could do with more seating.

I will be back without a doubt.

AMR

Small little establishment hidden away, blink and you will miss it! Ordered some pizzas on a sunday afternoon and they were delish! Prices are quiet reasonable for the tastiness that you are receiving! A must try if you are in the area. They just need to expand because it can become a little cramped and note that they are a cashless establishment!

Very, very, VERY nice place. Small, unassuming, next to a Shell garage. The food is very good, and well priced too, and there's a large selection. Ditch the overpriced fancy restaurants and go there. They also cater for food allergies and have a good banting selection. If they can do it, the more expensive places can too. Being gluten and lactose untolerant, this is a big issue. It's a surprise. Just one thing, though. When I was there they had a major fly problem.
Angie
A berry good time!

A friend & I popped in to get some cool refreshments. We had the Iced beverages can't recall the names but they were amazing! We had mango & banana & berry flavours. Will definitely be back to have more & try out the food, as their menu looks very large for such a small place.
Vibe is super friendly & warm.
Decor is rustic & charming.
Can't wait to go back!
StuieMic
Their pizza is definitely traditional and yummy but the long wait is no fun!!! If you looking for authentic then this is the place just make sure if you getting a takeaway to call ahead!!!
Love the selection and uncomplicated menu!!! Super little place!!

Absolutely dismal service received from Georgia this evening...been going to Buonissimo for over 3years now (And rated the restaurant 5 starts until now) and never been treated this way..ordered 3 different pastas for delivery - all the pastas ended up tasting way overcooked and stodgy/gluey (penne was breaking to the touch) The sauces were in no way seasoned at all (just like plain cream poured over the spaghetti or plain tomato purée over the pasta).

When we called to return the pasta (as we know that our favorite pastas from here never tasted like this before), we were met with denial from Georgia saying WE are wrong, this is they way it’s made always and if another one is remade it will be made the same..not willing to listen to our reasons for returning the product and getting very defensive..

We agreed to a remake of the pasta and went to collect it - hand on heart it tasted like it always does normally and the way it should (thank god because we were starving by now)

So much for reasonable customer service from what USED to be a great small family run business..

Best pizza & pasta in Jhb! Once you've eaten here it's tough going to any other pizza place. Freshest ingredients used and very tasty.
Small and quaint restaurant overlooking the lake. Doesn't feel like you're in Jhb at all.

Lovely litte place in modderfontein to grab an amazing pizza! Often stop by on my way home to get dinner usually take away. Nice variety of pizzas and really tasty! Highly recommended

Full disclosure: I have eaten pizzas from here for the past 4 years.

This place is awesome. The restaurant is owner run and owner managed by an Italian family. I can honestly say I only once had a pizza which was not baked properly once out of maybe 400+ pizzas. They delivered a new pizza within 15 min. The pizzas are thin based and crisp and toppings are subtle enough to not overshadow the base which often happens when restaurants think that bigger is better.
Their coffee is also great. The have an excellent hazelnut latte which I often order too.

I recently returned from New York and was lucky enough to get a table at johns of Bleecker street pizza which is rated one of the best pizza places. After returning and tasting a pizza from buonissimo again i realised that we have one of the best places in the world right next to us!

One of the best places to have a fantastic lunch at. The pizzas as great but the thing you wanna have is their paninis. I personally have not had a better panini anywhere else. Excellent milkshakes in some creative flavors. Brilliant cappuccino with cream albeit the cups being a bit small for the price you pay. In terms of value for money. You get what you pay for........ A cappuccino and a sandwich....... Around R80!

A tad pricey but the food is great. I highly recommend the gnocchi! It's a tiny little cafe situated at the Shell Garage in Modderfontein. Service could definitely be friendlier. Overall a really decent little cafe.

Without a doubt the best traditional wood fired pizzas that I have found in Joburg. They have a fantastic selection with some unique options which make for interesting selections. Just don't expect quick service if you arrive in rush hour. Food is however well worth the wait.
Wicked Cream
Just a little stroll from us. On a Sunday morning nothing could be easier. Although they are known by everyone in the area for pizza their breakfast, lunch and in betweens are great. The Parma ham is my favourite and the new venue is relaxing although i preferred the old shop. Take home a tub of the Banana and Caramel Wicked Cream ice cream with your pizza.

Breafast was good. Eggs sooft and bacon crispy as per order. View over the dam, cool breeze, good service. Enjoyed it. Coffee was okay, but no large mugs.

A quaint little Italian restaurant/cafe located at the shell garage near the modserfontein dam. I really great place to spend Saturday lunch time with my mom!

We both ordered pizza and they were really proper tasty. I had the Hawaiian which is an absolute classic and they didn't disappoint. My mom had a vegetarian one with an array of toppings including artichokes, avo and mushrooms. She loved it! The service was nothing amazing but decent in such a small place. The fact that the restaurant is at a garage takes nothing away from it as the restaurant faces into the dam which is really relaxing. I was also impressed by the number of people and especially families passing through.

Looking forward to coming back!

Devine restaurant! Best pizza in town! Love the atmosphere. The tiramisu pudding as well as the milkshake is absolutely delicious! Very nice and accomodating owners as well.

Definitely a place that everyone needs try!

Order pizza for the office once a month from here . Absolutely divine ! The bacon , avo and feta and the seafood pizza's are to die for . Worth the money !

My new favorite local pizza spot, great views and authentic Italian pizza that is never short on cheese or toppings. Would be nice if they were open a little later than 8pm...

I was in Italy in 2012, and the pizza we get from Buonissimo transports me back there with every bite. Evocative and brilliant I highly recommend Buonissimo

Lovely, reasonably priced meals and good service. Frequented by locals which is encouraging! They have a great selection of authentic Italian meals and are conveniently located.

Most amazing food ever, staff is always so helpful and friendly with a smile on their faces ! I recommend it to anyone who loves Italian. I have come to love the pizza so much that I cannot eat pizza anywhere else.

A little family-owned Italian place next to the lake.

Buonissimo is tucked away in the petrol station with only a few tables available. We were there for a late dinner, so unfortunately we didn't get to experience the view. The waitress was very forgetful and borderline rude. I had to ask for my water three times to get it, and I was dying of thirst because the Gourmet Latte was so sweet. Some other waiter also just came and took our pepper without asking us first. Yes we weren't using it at the moment and would be glad to pass it on to another table, but stretching his hand to the middle of the table while we were dining is definitely not good table manners. The owner however, was very sweet and friendly.

The pasta were decent, a little under-seasoned but decent. The pasta is rather good value for money if you add your own salt to it. The beef however, was very tough for the Valdostana I had (beef pocket with ham and cheese stuffing), and the sides were bland and bitter.

Bottomline: I might come back for pizza takeaway if I'm all out of options...

Pros: Good view (I'd suggest come during sunset), good portion/price ratio
Cons: Very average food, bad service
Jose De Carvalho
A nice pizza store that is frequented by locals. The view from the restaurant is amazing , overlooking the Modderfontein lake . The sunsets here must be a real treat.
The capuccinno is delicious with the just the right amount of flavour. I had a pizza that had bacon avo and feta, it felt as if it needed 2 minutes extra in the oven.. not crispy enough. The napolitana sauce is very 'tomatoey' but very fresh. I am not sure why but it seems that everyone us scared of a little seasoning which made the pizza bland.. If it had a little seasoning, the pizza would have been much beter - there were no salt bottles on the table.. . The service was average, I ordrred a cuppacino for while I wait for the pizza as it was a chilly afternoon - the waitor dissappeared but tinally rembrred 2 minutes before the pizza arrived . It's a grate place for u to arrange for a quick take away meal - small plave with few tables. Dont expect too much.. To be honest I wasnt wowed and I would suggest that management attend to the smaller details - like service and seasoning of meals. It has serious potential and beautiful location.

Update: 27/04/2015- P and I went there for lunch.. I was a bit scared as when p wants something specific she wants a good quality of it.. no slap dash. So we ordered this spinach feta quiche.. with a greek salad for starter.. wow that was really nice.. P ordered a Panzerotti which is squarred pasta filled with spinach and cheese and onion covered woth a napoletana sauce while I had a Mexicana pizza.. I muat admit that this was a far better visit than my first encounter with them. I still think they need to be a tad bit friendlier and a few more tables wouldnt hurt.. and even an extra waitor would so the trick.. I want to go back and try their breakfasts.. this other patron had breakfast for lunch and boy it looked good. I think I found a new hang out spot...

This is a family run restaurant that never fails to impress. Grandma Olga bakes fresh ciabatta bread every day. Daniello and Giorgia and their lovely family take care of the restaurant daily. Andrew speaks Italian and some Mandarin. It feels like home
Steven
My favourite pizza place in the area. Had breakfast today which was tasty as breakfasts go.

Really try to have their pizza though... You will love it.
