Review Okes Coffee Shop - Modderfontein

Imran Siddique
Oaks brew house is a very calm and open place from the weekend breakfast till the Friday candle light. It's having lot of open space for open dining and the bar in the basement. One of the best thing is probably the openness of the place. I enjoyed the lunch there and spend few hours there. The quality of food is tops and I had one of the best penaculada. Focasha was also very nice a crispy fresh and pasta was also nice.

Lovely little brew house in the middle of the east rand, they have a limited selection of craft bear and a lovely menu to go with the alcohol. The establishment is set in a little house of sorts with a garden to accommodate customers. Really lovely sitting outside on a summers day with good friends and good food.

I visit here often after cycling at Modderfontein Reserve. Service a bit slow but food ad venue more than makes up for it. Try the French Toast.

Try the Columbian Red Velvet Espresso is free!! This quaint restaurant brings you flavours from around the world and only serves breakfast. The portion sizes are generous and food ranges from R40 to R90. The decor is creative and simple with disjointed pieces all over. Linked to the coffee shop is a beer brewery which opens only on Saturdays. The art and sculptures are beautiful. I tried an omelette and we all shared various breakfasts. We all tried all the free expressos they had to offer

We visited Oakes Brew House after the modderfontein Parkrun. There is seating outside on larger benches or you can sit inside (it is quite small inside so it can get crowded). The menu is written on a chalkboard inside the cafe, and the menu is quite simple but caters for a variety of tastes. I had a black americano with caramel syrup, my husband had a cappuccino with vanilla syrup. For breakfast we both went with the banting special, with is half an avo, crispy diced bacon, cheese and 2 eggs. Food is tasty and the prices are affordable. There are also coffee beans available for purchase. Service is friendly, but it can get slow if there are many people. Will go back when I am in the area again.

Really great location, food is decent but unfortunately the staff who manage and run the show are incompetent, rude and absentminded. Pity as it could be something special.

We visited this establishment about a year ago and thoroughly enjoyed the outdoor setting and good coffees and variety of craft beers.
This time around, however it was very different.
As we arrived, we double checked with the waiter if they were open as the place was deserted and our question was met with a reluctant nod of the head.
We sat down under the trees at a comfortable table and waited for 15 minutes and not a sole arrived... (absolutely no one to be found)
We decided to leave but before driving out, I popped in at the front of the property to find some staff members on their phones relaxing and chatting unaware of any customers out the back....
This was a very busy holiday Friday and all other close by coffee shops/restaurants were packed to capacity, which can only make me think that we were not the only ones to have this experience.
Pity as the potential was there...

We were there for breakfast on sunday. The place is great. An idylic setting makes you feel like you're really out of town and theres plenty of play areas for kids. Usually the food and service good but this weekend was off, maybe an off day. 3 of our table ordered chicken liver breakfasts and 1 of these was clearly smaller than the other 2, and the fried egg on mine was mostly uncooked whites and i never got the chilli sauce i asked for. The rest ofvthe table looked fine except a few plates went back because the food was cold. My coffee was bitter and tasted burned.
The only reason they get a 3 is because i know they are better than Sundays display

Very dissapointed with this place. It's outside but there are bugger all umbrellas unless you fancy sitting in the sun. We waited for over 40 minutes for our breakfasts, which out of all meals to make should be the least time consuming! Two of our orders were wrong, my omelette arrived when my family had just about finished eating their food. No one checked on us, as a matter of fact I don't even know who our waiter was, and no one cared ! The food was delicious but completely over shadowed by your lack of service and unreasonable waiting time for food.

We have been here on a few occasions and love the casual environment, good food and outdoor space. However the service could be improved. We had to look for a waiter to order and get the bill. Perhaps better training and more staff would help. But still enjoy going there.

I used to often go to Oakes Brew House on a Saturday morning for a breakfast and had not been in a while. The setting is great, but I'm not sure what went wrong this time.
I ordered an omelette and my partner a toasted chicken mayo (which was just average and slightly over toasted).
My omelette arrived and it was badly burnt and horribly bitter. I sent it back. They made another one that looked a lot better, but was still raw and gooey on the inside. I didn't eat it. The waiter didn't seem too concerned and asked if I wouldn't tell the manager as the staff would get in trouble.
They still charged full price.
Pity...Very disappointing and I won't be going back.

Tried this little gem tucked away in Modderfontein for breakfast. The atmosphere, service and coffee was good. The food was okay. Will stop by again to try out lunch.

Oakes Brewhouse in Modderfontein is a quaint little spot offering craft beers and delicious coffee roasts. This was also the first all-girl brewery in Modderfontein founded in 2013.

I have made trek twice now to sample their flagship Butt Stout, but sadly on both visits now, they have not had it available. Instead I tried their: Oakes Wise Beer (Weiss), The American Pale Ale and The Easy Blonde.

On the coffee side, El Salvador Quetta and the Ugandan Roast were both delicious, but the El Salvador was definitely my favorite!

*Recommendation: For those of you into your craft beers and coffees, Oakes is definitely worth a stop over the weekend!

For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

My sister and I visited both the brewery and the coffee shop this afternoon and it was lovely. Firstly, the beer brewery was delightful. The staff on duty was so friendly and allowed us to taste the beers. I enjoyed the easy blond and wise beers, so I ended up buying a couple for taking home. And at R35 each, they were worth it.
Secondly, we drove around the corner to the cafe/coffee shop. What I love is that they roast their own coffee beans. We weren't hungry so my sister had an iced cafe latte and I had an iced americano. We chose the strongest beans they had, which were the Columbian roast. It was good but certainly not the best coffee I've had. I loved the atmosphere and the staff on duty were also just so amazing and friendly. I like that its away from the hustle and bustle and would definitely recommend it as a nice work environment too.

I love the quaint, old-world suburb of Modderfontein. Located within spitting distance of my home in Edenvale, it gives you the sense of being in a cutesy, little village. And nestled amidst the tall pine trees lies a fantastic place called Oakes Brew House. Oakes is famous for its own brand of craft beer and coffee brewed by an all female team!

Great coffee in a lovely café setting, really great atmosphere. Wide variety of food to choose from to suit your appetite. Nothing beats being able to sit and enjoy it in the sunshine!

Absolutely love this place! Great venue if you want to be outdoors and away from the hustle and bustle. To start off you get a free beer tasting at the brewery on site, not the best beer I've had but still a great touch. The food is great - the pizzas are massive and absolutely delicious! Service was great! Cant wait to go back!

Love love love Oakes! Had a fantastic coffee tasting today. Both me and my dad enjoyed the morning coffee aromas and great service. Truely a great selection of fresh roasted beans and plenty of yummy menu choices, enjoy
