Review Ilha - Milnerton

Magda Rautenbach
We visited this place for a quick snack and coffee. The setting outside is beautiful with the sea air and the wind that blows on your face. I had Butternut soup that tasted delicious. I would however have liked some bread to go with it. The chili poppers was also tasty, but you must like hot food. The service was very good and the waiter was very friendly.

Super great service along with tea , a great coffee( according to hubby) and a peach flavored cheese cake. Just what the doctor ordered after a morning walk on the beach.

This is the spot. We stayed close by and walked there each night. Great atmosphere and people. Good pizza and even better burrito!

We need to support this establishment more often.

A great place to chill. I enjoy playing pool. The staff is always friendly and willing to make the shots I love (the alcoholic kind: they're too busy to join me at pool). I also enjoy the food. The coolness of the bar area on a scorchingly hot day is always welcome. Perfect place for a date.

What a lovely surprise - such a gem. It was quite windy so we opted to go inside. - what a lovely ambiance and passionate staff. Oh and by the way, the food was fantastic as well. I will recommend this place

What a JOL! Alex (the barman) was amazing with his service as busy as it was he had the biggest smile. the food was great (pizza was cooked to perfection) and good value for money on drinks. definitely a favourite spot.

We had an amazing experience there in February. Stayed within walking distance and we were there each night enjoying their specials. We will be back for sure!

Great pizza and beer. Waiters and staff are very friendly. Nice, relaxed atmosphere. Highly recommended.

Dropped a star as the food could be better, but what you see is what you get here. Friendly staff, cheap drinks, super relaxed. Dogs welcome. Good spot to while away a lazy day...

I love the Cajun calamari basket and my grandson the ribs basket, his girlfriend orders the chicken basket. Nice place to sit and relax with family or friends.

Great food, freshly made so expect a 20 minute wait which is well worth it. I enjoy the pizzas in particular. An informal hang out where dogs and kids are welcome.

Really pleasent experience. Very friendly staff and great basket specials. 2 baskets of choice for R130 Mon - Fri. Had the chicken and calamari basket, very fresh and well prepared. Also big portions even for the full price of R99 each (without special)!

Unfortunately this quant little restaurant had gone backwards in many ways.I have on the last two occasions taken guests there and on both occasions been verbally abused by the Manager Victor not only is he rude by his language to paying clients is disgusting. This was also witnessed by a another customer Mr. Leon Wessels who also said he would never return.I had the first bad experience in May and vowed not to go back however my son and his friends asked to go there to watch the sport and have dinner this occasion was very disturbing as when we complained to Victor about cold food he told me flat out if u not happy there please leave with no empathy to a paying client and as we were not rude in any way this was extremely disturbing.Congratulations Ilha for allowing this rude immigrant to run your business you are ensuring that customers like myself will not only never come back but will go out my way to ensure that others don't as well. So sad as we as a family have many great memories in times gone by.

Ilha Restaurant & Bar is located at Milnerton lagoon beach - you can get off at the Woodbridge MyCiti bus stop to avoid worrying about parking. I could tell that patrons were locals, so you can always count on their being a buzzing atmosphere.

Review:

Food: The food was standard, "good" at most. I recall that each of us ordered something different from the others. My niece ordered a chicken strips basket (it was gigantic), my nephew chose a ribs basket, boyfriend had a rack of ribs and I copied his order after seeing the chicken wrap I had initially ordered. To be honest, the portions were big enough to share and so the price was justified. The ribs fell off the bone and was tasty and tender.

The reason for changing my order was because the wrap looked bland, and I wanted something spicy. I suppose you could say that I got my something spicy when I chose the chili poppers as a starter. Although the mains were average, the chili poppers were of the best I have ever had! It was so creamy on the inside, stuffed with cheese and cubed bacon, yummy!

My boyfriend and I love Ilha, we go and have a drink or a bite to eat almost every week. Our favourites on the menu are the margarita pizza and the baskets - cheap and amazing! I'd also have to commend the staff on always being super friendly, especially Alex (he brings us our regular drinks as soon as we arrive!) :) :)
The restaurant is geared for locals who are relaxed and not in a hurry. The kitchen is very small and if there are too many orders at a specific time, they will not be able to serve you quickly. Accept that and you will meet many locals returning for the value offering. Some will expect you to share your table with their hungry dogs but apart from that, the value for money and genuine experience goes a long way to make this a good experience a good one that will make you return for more

Decor : Laid back beach bar restaurant. Nothing fancy, but dogs are welcome which is always cool!
Service : Friendly waiters, although when it gets busy, which it often does, service can be a bit slow. Don't come here if you're in a hurry, but if you're looking for a place to have a cheap brunch and chill, this will be perfect for you.
Food : One of a few places that serve strawberry juice! Also the food, while not gourmet, is pretty good, and I've never been disappointed. The chicken schnitzel was delightfully soft, and the ribs and calamari were generously portioned.
Price : Affordable local prices. Nice place to spend some time at the beach whilst avoiding tourist traps.
I can not say anything about the food as I waited 50mins of a 1hour lunch for my cheese burger to arrive, and it never did. Never go there! Unless you have all the time in the world.

Non existent service, dirty table, looong wait for drinks looong wait for truly terrible pizzas. Masses of plasticky cheese and not much else. Gave most of it to the car guard. Yuk.

I shared a chicken basket with my son...it took absolute ages to arrive and at least 2 tables received their food before me even even though i ordered first. We also ordered a kiddies choc milkshake and an Appletiser. Service was non existent - nobody checked on us once and we waited ages again fir the bill.

Great little place to have a couple of beers after work or grab a quick snack. Their basket special (2 baskets for R100) is most definitely worth it!! The food is delicious and portion sizes are massive. Definitely a go-to if you're on a tight budget.

I visited Ilha today and it was something of a surprise. It doesn't look like much from the outside with its benches and lack of decor. The waiter was friendly and in the April afternoon the feeling was laid back and pleasant. I ordered a chicken and bacon salad. Ingredients were crisp and fresh and olive oil and balsamic vinegar were brought to the table without having to ask for it. A decent quantity of protein was supplied and together with the relaxed feeling of the venue it was a pleasant afternoon. It's a bar so no fine dining here. Prices are reasonable though.

Had out monthly tweetup and decided to move out the CBD for a change. The place has a nice vibe, young crowd. Has TVs for sport of you sit close to the bar (no sound tho). The service was very slow on the night though. I had a strawberry daiquiri, cappuccino and a calamari basket. Daiquiri was good and I made it just in time for happy hour. Coffee was cold, I finished it in 2 min. The calamari was disappointing, the batter was doughy and falling off the calamari. The calamari itself was tough. I was hungry so ate it. One of the ladies in the crew returned hers and they remade it for her to take away.

Great food. Great pricing. Not so great vibe, no music, no volume for the sport. Slow kitchen service, don't go here if you're in a hurry. The food is value for money though.

Their chilli poppers are some of the best in CPT, and great specials on their finger food baskets. Perfect place for a casual, laid back lunch after walking the dogs on the beach. Very chilled vibe.

If I could mark this as a big fat ZERO I would. Great location but sadly that is the only good thing about this place. Food was horrible. Service exceedingly slow. The kitchen is filthy - Gordon Ramsay: Kitchen Nightmare filthy. Seriously disgusting.

Amazing little spot on the beach. Always great food I usually stop by here while taking some sunset pictures of Cape Town. Never disappointed and it has a nice social vibe for sundowners

Great place for calamari and chips. Casual dining by the beach, but decent food at reasonable prices. Surprisingly nice coffee too! Only drawback is service incredibly slow on all occasions I've attended. Not super clean environment either, but what does one expect right next to the beach, right?
Mathoto
Ordered take away and got these horrible chips that taste like they don't change the oil. Either these chips were old and just heated for our sake or they just make horrible chips. The burgers were average, nothing special about them. Just basic. So disappointed!!!

Food is always amazing, prices are great value, portions sizes are very good. Service can be a bit on the slow side even when its not that busy.
Ryan Mulders
The food was acceptable but the ambience was not helped by a drunken Frenchman making a fool of himself. Hope he's not a regular. The brandy special was good value.

Epic breakfast after the early morning boxing recently. Walked in around 7:30am, had lekka coffee and then brekkie. Can read a newspaper while u enjoy your coffee. Chilled vibe, food is awesome!
