Review The Beach Tavern - Milnerton

A no-nonsense and unpretentious bar about a stone's throw away from Milnerton Beach. They have an excellent selection of local craft beers. The manager and waiters were friendly and accommodating. The menu is quite diverse. I just did not enjoy the loud techno music which could even be heard at the outside seating on a Sunday afternoon. The establishment is great for sports watching - there are several large screen televisions.

We visited mid week after work. Not too busy and we were served immediately. The menu is very typical of a "beach tavern". No fuss, light meals and drinks. Unfortunately a limited selection of virgin cocktails, but the burgers were well prepared and the chips some of the best we had in a long time. The portions were generous and prices reasonable. We're sure to return if we want a quick bite after work again.

Went around 15h00 on a public holiday, bar service was quick and friendly, beers are ice cold, but unfortunately they don't run tabs and no decent tequila.

What a great environment, a good place to chill with a super pizza menu and the 2 for R139 special made the event very cost effective. Super yummy experience with a wide menu option that cannot wait to try. Great service even in the midst of a power outage. Friendly team, who made every effort to keep everything running smoothly! Thanks all.

Always a nice vibe there. The staff are friendly attentive. Food is always great and the prices are really competitive. It's a great stop if you've gone to the beach on a hot day, or if you'd like a drink or two. Pet friendly and in winter they setup an outdoor fire pit.

Nothing spectacular, basic uncomfortable seating, not much atmosphere. The food is good however and the service is not bad. Some nice alcohol selections. 20 SEP 2017. Excellent Banting pizza. Excellent service from Tatenda.

More screens than there are angles to watch. Fantastic selection of beers. Pizzas out of this world. Great vibe. Fantastic staff. If I could give more than 5 stars I would! Highly recommend it. Go there!

Very nice atmosphere. Service was not the best but understandable as you were packed when i was there. But .... i have no clue what you did to my burger but oh hell was it good, best burger patty ever. All i all a damn fine time was had.

Great staff and beers!

Our waiter took the longest time for everything. He brought starter with no sauce pack. Then brought pizza, had no side plates - waited 10min for them and still had to get up after and ask him for salt and pepper. Needless to say the food was cold. Oh and the cheddar used on the pizza is terrible, rather ask for mozzarella.

Always a great experience!! Great vibe, great and friend staff. Food excellent!! I would definetly recommend the lover burger which is chicken fillet with camenbert cheese and cranberry sauce!! Also the amazing rock n roll burger!! ;)

My family and I were there on Sunday, 29 Jul 2018. The tables were sticky, the restaurant appeared tacky and dirty and the toilets stank. The staff were very laid back and not at all concerned about this - no member of staff went to check on the bathrooms during our time there (about 3 hours). The bathrooms look sad and unkempt, dirty and grubby. Our waiter was friendly enough but service was slow. Staff seem to be totally disinterested in customers. We use to frequent this restaurant often but have stopped going there because of the slow service. Sunday we wanted to see if there were any positive changes.... sadly, the place is deteriorating fast!

Best pizza we have ever had. Thin crispy base with a quality flavoured cheese. Service also friendly and quick. It will be unfair to even try and compare other pizzas in the future to what we have had this evening. An abosolute must try.....!!!!!!!

Generally a good place, and food is good. Nice vibe and great selection of beers. Live music is also a plus.

Looove their crispy chips and the awesome chicken and chorizo burger. Chicken was not dry and flavorsome. Very yum ciders as well!! Good service thanks!

A huge thank you to Thomas,Gary and your amazing staff. We held our wedding reception at beach tavern on Saturday and everyone went out of their way to make our day amazing. Service was superb. Food as always was yummolicious and our guests kept complementing our amazing venue. Thank you !!

I recently sent the owner an email stating that my family and I visited (Saturday evening, 24 August 2019) and whilst the waitress that served us was OK and the meals delivered were also just OK what really annoyed our table was that the ladies bathroom was in a disgusting state and we had to ask for toilet paper a few times.  Many people make the statement that "if this is what the bathroom looks like, imagine what the kitchen looks like".... <br/><br/>We have been fairly regular visitors to The Beach Tavern over many years and sadly, we have noticed a rather sharp decline in the hygiene & cleanliness, service, meals on offer and atmosphere."  <br/>The Owner responds was extremely disappointing - no "I apologize for the inconvenience" or "thank you for your feedback" - he simply stated:<br/><br/>"We are well aware how some people have been treating our bathrooms.<br/>  We are aware of these issues and are actioning as budget allows. I'm sure you can imagine with the current situation our country is in cashflow is an issue across all industries.<br/>  With regards to no paper in the loo, we have replaced the soap with waterless hand sanitizer so there is no need.  I can assure these issues are high on my priority list while i try to find the culprits who are sabotaging my bathrooms."  <br/><br/>Whilst vandalism is a terrible thing - dirt is something that can be regularly cleaned or close down the bathroom facilities until maintenance is done.  Really disappointed in his "pass the buck" attitude.  Clearly customers should stop visiting and vandalizing his property.  We won't be back.

Went there with work colleagues. <br/><br/>Love the jazz music they played. The menu I didn’t find much option for the thing that I would like. The chili chicken strips it's not worth your money. It's like only 5 strips with a lot of chips pity I didn’t take a photo. Was too disappointed in the way my plate look. <br/><br/>I also ordered the fish and chips and I was quite surprised it was grilled and not fried. Either way, I was happy with the grilled fish. Now that was worth my money. <br/><br/>Would I go there again I doubt it. But it was a good experience...

Stopped for a quick dinner, we have been wanting to come here for a while already. The pizza and service was fantastic. Huge selection of beers. Khaya is an awesome waiter, very attentive. The pizza oven needs a clean though, as the bases underneath where a bit black

It’s a very friendly and relaxed vibe and the service is also not bad. I had a pizza and the base is nice and thin just the way I like it. The prices are also good but I don’t care for they jam jars. I ordered a pomegranate one and it was way too sweet and struggled to finish it. Would go back again for pizza though.

It's so chill out here - with great food and a great menu. Bring your dogs and relax for the day or night. Right by the beach! Breakfast, lunch and dinner!<br/>yum

The food never disappoints!!!! Always a good vibe and good chill spot. The service is a bit slow but will most def recommend it. Had the meat platter which u shared with hubby and the meat fell off the bones of the rib. Yum yum!

This is a venue that I have known for many years as a Milnerton resident.<br/>This site has seen many businesses come and go, but under its current guise & ownership the guys have turned the place around over the last few years. Most previous tenants would be lucky to have a business stretch to 18 months.<br/><br/>Although not a regular I would go in from time to time for a drink, and it's fair to say that for a local joint they have a fantastic selection of drinks that wouldn't be out of place in the more swanky, touristy parts of our city.<br/><br/>I was there recently, with family, for a midweek birthday meal. I must say I didn't notice the dirtiness some reviewers have alluded to, but this was what seemed to be an overly busy night, particularly outside as there were several big tables, and yes, the service wasn't what you'd call 'speedy'.<br/>Unfortunately for our waiter, they felt that in their tip, as we tipped accordingly.<br/><br/>With the booze & beer selection that they have I like to go have a look, but the bar staff on duty that evening weren't the most knowledgeable either. To be fair though, in the past I've found the owners & management to certainly know their stuff on that front.<br/><br/>The food was good, but not brilliant. Apparently their pizzas are the bizz, so i'll try them next time...<br/><br/>This is a great bar in the summer to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine & ever-present south easter!

Just too far from the beach to be a beach bar, you can not even see the ocean.<br/>The tables inside and outside are the same hard wooden slats benches. <br/>The food is not too bad but not wonderful but the prices are good <br/>Service is not great and cleanliness is also not high on the agenda.<br/>They do keep cider on tap so on a warm day I am occasionally here for a quick drink after visiting the beach.<br/>I would say I visit them once a month. But most of the time I drive somewhere else

Maybe they should only open at night..U can't see the "dirt" ar night... More of an action bar vibe...one can see it get out of hand.. I the wee hours of the night.. :-)... I'm here now.. A Monday at 1430...glad to find Savanna on tap.. Had a all American burger.. Claim it's a steak burger.. U forgot about all the binder I'm it... Flavour was ok.. Not as advertised tho ... Nothing "pure"... My chips were fresh wedges, except they fried them in the same oil as the seafood... Nooooo.... Look at the state of the condiment bottles.. So gross.. O well.. Been there.... Done that.

Not a bad spot to end off the day! Enjoyed a huge 500 ml Rekorderlig strawberry and lime cider on the rocks - so refreshing! With a cappuccino for my partner, a side of slap chip sweet potato fries (not a fave) and some crispy onion rings all for R114! Not bad 😀 only complaint no complimentary wifi detected outside, I was told there was inside 🙁 hmmm otherwise great beach bar close to the beach, I probably should be working online this close to the beach anyways 😉 cheers guys!!!________Management is off the chain at this establishment - Thank you Thomas :-)

The 2.5 score is entirely due to the yummy pizza and the mocktails. The service, cleanliness and general condition leave much to be desired. There should be a law against bite marks on cheap cutlery in restaurants, like what I found here.

So it's no secret that I love food , I love eating and most of all I love exploring new eateries. I am not selective and I often take friends to try out new and interesting places.<br/><br/>Today's exploration was in favour of burger bliss and where better to go than our very own WOODBRIDGE ISLAND in Milnerton and the THE BEACH TAVERN 7441.<br/><br/> Whilst the restaurant lacks any kind of panache ... it is your typical tavern, ideal for watching sports slugging down an ale and good old fashioned camaraderie. The menu contains an impressive array of Burgers , Pizza's and snack baskets to keep your tummy happy and your belly full.<br/><br/>On the day we both chose the BBM Burger or in other words the Bacon , Blue Cheese and Mushroom Burger ... oh yes and a side portion of onion rings. The portions were generous ... in actual fact big ... so much so that I didn't even attempt to eat my bun.<br/><br/>The food was fresh and tasty but definitely not the fastest and the waiting staff left a lot to be desired.<br/><br/>The venue is not wheelchair friendly and definitely not a cosy or romantic escape, it would, however, be a great family friendly restaurant.<br/><br/>The restaurant does have great weekly specials if you are local and I should imagine in summer or on Rugby days/nights this place gets packed ... give it a try, just don't be in a hurry!

I've been here numerous times but each time the service just gets progressively worse. The last time I went I basically had to waiter myself. The waiter did not serve us for food nor drinks and we had to find the waiter for the bill. When the bill finally came, the amounts were wrong. <br/><br/>Food is alright but definitely not worth the terrible service. Your money is better spent elsewhere.

I'm starting to be more selfish when it comes to rating a service. Before I'd give a high rating based on 1) good service or 2) good food alone. So this is a great review in my eyes. <br/><br/>Our waitress greeted us with a warm smile and beautiful persona - big tops - immediately comfortable. Drink suggestions were made - I mean, I asked "what's the best craft beer" - quite a broad question? But yet she answered and dam I'm in love with this beer (plus I'm a lady). The drinks and food were good - jalapeño poppers were great. Suggestion on the nachos - less nacho, more cheese (or just more cheese). Also, not a fan of that tomato relish.<br/><br/>We were relaxed and not in a hurry, so the amount of times we saw the waitress wasn't a bother. I saw one or two customers demand service but there was like 3 waiters to a fairly busy restaurant. I suggest, more teamwork. Not more waiters. Otherwise the staff was great and it's my favorite place for good drinks and now good food 👍😊

Don't hurry here if you're looking for good service. This is essentially more tailored to the drinking crowd, although when they did eventually bring us our food, it wasn't terrible. They have a Banting menu, which is always a nice surprise. We ordered the Alfresco burger and sweet potato chips. The burger was a little dry, and the chips a little soggy. But I would recommend it as a stop off after a beach expedition.

I am a breakfast regular. there is great improvement in service with the new manager. I think this is one of Cape Town's gems especially for cyclist, dog owners, and beach goers.

After a previously bad experience here what a turn around! Possibly the best (really) Eggs Benedict I've have ever had. The fresh orange juice was freshly squeezed and the service was superb. The new manager on duty has really improved things. Only comment is the "club" music eminating from the bar was not suitable for breakfast trade.

So disappointed. Only reason I visited this place was because of my lovely friends birthday. But will never be back. Service very bad and pizza dough not cooked through.

Went here for a farewell. Ordered the burgers for the special (R139 for any two burgers). The bacon and cheese burger was pretty tasty, but the chicken/beef burger while impressively large was dry and unpleasant. The meal wasn't terrible , but the service was absolutely useless. I had to track down my waiter several times to order, from ordering to asking for takeaways. The takeaways eventually went missing because my waitor forgot to give it back to me and the other staff didn't know who to give it to, so they were poking through the food trying to see what was ordered so they could compare it to the orders made by the tables. Management apologized and admitted the staff were useless, but altogether a bit of a let down. Every time I go here the service seems to dip a little lower. Not sure how they expect me to spend money there if they just ignore the people trying to spend it.

This was a terrible experience.<br/>Initially it looks nice, layed back as if you can have a relaxed time here however the staff too are VERY relaxed!<br/><br/>The service was super slow and we waited over 55 minutes for our food. I had a previous engagement and had to arrange with my friends to put my food in a take away when it eventually comes.<br/><br/>The waiters do not know the menu. I did not get toast with my meal and neither did my friend who ordered a plain omelette with toast. When her meal came there were no toast. After enquiring about the toast the waiter asked my friend: "Are you supposed to get toast" and my friend responded with "that is what is says in the menu" and the waiter still did not believe her and had to check with the manager. The omelette had burned residues of whatever was in the frying pan before the omelette. <br/>We asked for hard eggs and got almost raw runny eggs. We asked for rare steak and received a well done steak. So in essence the food and service was a huge disappointment and the excuse from the waiter was that the kitchen staff was new and that was the reason for them taking so long and for preparing below average food.<br/><br/>The manager did not help at all, only said our order will take 2 minutes because they got the "table numbers mixed up" but 2 minutes turned into a very long wait.<br/><br/>Will not recommend this place at all. Poor excuses, poor management and the food does not make up for it. At least the cappuccinos tasted okay-ish.<br/>

So many beers on tap it's amazing! The vibe and location is very pleasant. Yet to try their pizzas but no doubts it will be good. The burgers a pretty good but not the best. The vibe, beers and view is what lures you in .

Great selection of craft beer available on tap - Particularly fond of the new SAB craft beer selection. Pleasantly surprised on my arrival in terms of the atmosphere and laid back mood!

Unless you are out on the town and intending to get drunk, steer clear of this "restaurant".  The service is atrocious, the food mediocre at best and they are out of stock of a lot of the beers they advertise.  I will definitely not be going back there.  Ever.

Loved the burgers! So yami!! It's a must go for burgers lover :) and it has a nice vibe, very casual! haven't tried the pizzas yet, will have to go back for that!

Really nice place with a casual and beachy vibe. I enjoye the calzone and pizzas very much! Mostly good food. Sandwiches not great though.. the waffles were stale and reheated, and the meat tasted like it had been microwaved or something. So those definitely need improvement. I would prefer it if there was a choice of breads for sandwiches since this is very much a lunch place and appeals to passers by as well as regular goers. On the whole very pleasant and by far the best of the Milnerton bunch by the beach.

This place is the best in Milnerton besides dales black Angus in paddocks. <br/><br/>Anything I ate from the ribs to the pizza is delicious. But nothing touches their burgers, especially the American and the chick n beast. <br/>Quality food for reasonable prices. I can only recommend. Coming here at least once a week if I can. Every weekday has its own special. And if you like craft beer, this place is heaven in summer.

I had an amazing peppermint crisp hot chocolate it's wanted me right up on this cold Sunday. Then to eat a strange combo it was a waffle with mince and cheese. I must say it was very delicious. It's a great venue right on the beach and the vibe is very cozy.

Best burgers and great salads, love the casual beach vibe. Enjoyed the service, very clean. Nit badly priced either, will definitely go there again for the burgers

Came here specifically for a beer tasting evening, but unfortunately the staff didn't seem too clued up on the different beers, and they weren't labelled so it was a bit of a guessing game. However, the AMAZING pizzas more than made up for it, and I really enjoyed my evening here :)

I really wanted to like this place having loved coming here in the past when under different ownership but after 3 duds in a row I'm giving up. Best I can describe this place is by using the word 'average'. Service ain't great, food orders arrive with burnt burgers and chicken. Even when the order arrives as expected the actual food looks great but is lacking in flavour. Beef patties look great but taste like<br/> I &J frozen burgers. Crumbed onion rings suffer a similar fate and fries were plentyful but bland. Cool place to grab a drink but don't expect much from the food and you'll do fine, unfortunate really...

Cool place on Woodbridge island. We sat outside on a sunny day and enjoyed a couple of burgers. I myself selected the bacon, feta, and avo chicken burger which was top notch. Presentation was good and the food was served quickly.

It was okay, definitely not as great as some of the reviews said. The meatlovers pizza smelt fishy and the service...not that great either. I wont recommend it to my friends.

Beer selection is out of this world, pizza's and burgers are amazing and the staff rock. Never a dull moment. Definitely one of cape town's biggest up and coming spots. Recommended to anyone looking to have a good time

If wine tasting is an art then beer tasting is like a child's doodle... or maybe that's just at the Beach Tavern. I actually would have appreciated if someone had said: "and here we have the Devil's Peak pale ale you can taste the mousey flavours... blah blah". Because of the 40 odd beers presented to the eight of us, we had no clue what was cracking! The beers were delicious there was a ginger one that caught my tongue, but what is the name of that mighty fine beer? I cannot tell you, as there was no structure to the tasting whatsoever and we were all sharing glasses... (Hope no one had herpes). I want to say that their management couldn't have organised a piss up in a brewery if they tried but they succeeded in sending us well on our way... I mean it's not like we're going to remember anything anyway. The Beach Tavern does pack a mean pizza though!

I came here when they first opened, but I retuned the other day and I have nothing but praise. They've expanded their menu, and their craft beer selection has doubled! The burgers are great, and the service was good too (could be a bit more hastily around the bar).<br/><br/>Edit: Came back a week later, and was served flat beer twice in one sitting, not their fault, but a risk they should be aware of when serving a local craft beer. Meals are actually quite average, but will return for the beers!

The best Hamburgers in Cape Town without a doubt. I have had hamburgers all over this city and nothing beats those at The Beach Tavern. Amazing range of craft beers too.

I went there with my family, we sat outside in the sun. 3 of us had delicious Burgers I had the Blue Cheese one which was delicious and my brother had one of their pizzas which he loved.<br/>Very efficient & professional service.<br/>Going back again tonight.
