Review Ottoman Palace - Midrand

Istanbul Kebab is a hidden gem of Turkish cuisine! The flavors are incredibly authentic and the quality of the food is top-notch. The kebabs are tender and flavorful, while the sides like hummus and tzatziki are fresh and delicious. The friendly staff adds to the overall pleasant dining experience. Definitely worth a visit!

Food here is yummy, not much to complain about. The service is attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is viby with a bit of a calm feeling, and is very well decorated as its to theme. If you are into hub, I have heard that they do make a very good hub, and it's clean.

Whilst visiting the sunninghill village mall Istanbul kebab peaked my interest..so Karissa and I indulge in a late lunch..oh what a lovely meal..served so appetizingly..tender chicken strips served with yogurt was my choice and Karissa chose their namesake kebab with fresh chips..our meals accompanied with bowls of side dishes ie..spiced butter beans..mashed roasted eggplant..hummus..herbed yogurt.. carrot onion chillies.. Great service from the serving staff...yes the complimentary Turkish tea always pairs well with the food..pleasurable dining experience. Thank you

I simply love this place for both food and setting. Really feels like I am in Istanbul sitting in a classy bistro in a little suburbian neighbourhood. Their food is great all around from the wraps to the iskender kebab. Portion sizes are great. I would say its a little pricey but this is commensurate to the quality of the food and service. My favourites are the lahmacun, iskender kebab and kunefe. They also have hookah and of great quality without any burn a d lasts a really long time too. I love this restaurant and recommend you try the food. I can't sing their praises enough.

Istanbul Kebab was highly recommended to us from a Turkish family. We went there with our kids today and everyone was extremely happy, and very full when we left! The food was all excellent. We started with some hummus and roti, and we all got an entree. Although we all got there hungry we took three separate boxes home because there was so much food. It's a bit of a drive for us to get there, about 40 minutes, but I have a feeling we'll be visiting many more times.

Always a great experience at Istanbul Kebab Sunninghill. Delicious and authentic food, great seating and ambieance... and really good, smiling staff. The complimentary Turkish tea after a meal is the cherry on top. Only one downside, food's quite pricey here.

The quality of the food was impeccable. It was really tasty and was enough to fill the hunger spots. A good menu with good options that allow you to taste a little bit of everything. The service was excellent. The staff were always on hand without being overbearing. Table and seating space is comfortable, which is great for large groups or families going out to eat.

If you are like me, always searching for different and nice places to eat, then this one is for you. The food is out of this world, the service is excellent, and you'll have your food within 10 minutes of ordering, every time. Worth the try.

Excellent food and order was taken and food was delivered in quick time even though the restaurant was extremely busy with all tables full and people waiting in a queue to get into the restaurant. Excellent customer service and well done to the management of the restaurant. All table are seen to. You don’t get this kind of service from other restaurants even when they are quite. Well done, it was worth the trip to your restaurant.

A bit pricey but so well worth every cent . If you are a small eater , the mix plate for one can easily be shared .

Wonderful restaurant, we had the mixed platter (serves 2-4) it was delicious, the chops, sliced kebab and chicken kebabs together with the rice was the highlight for me. Alot of meze sides included. Service was excellent and topped off with complimentary turkish teas was a lovely touch.

Food was very delicious. And the plate was too much filled and the price was reasonable. The waiters were also very good and attentive. The place was clean.

Not worth the trip to Midrand. There are much better Turkish restaurants in Johannesburg. Menu is limited and did not have a few items I asked about. Service is ok if a bit slow. Food is very average. Pricing is a little high given portion size. AND watch your bill they have already added a 10% tip before you pay. I will not be back.

Staff refused to remedy OFF meat and then demanded a tip saying their tips are their only salary.

Food is very nice.
Tastes like the food of Europe and ultimately Turkey.

Presentation is not that great.
Service is average.

A great place to try if you’re in Midrand though !

More flies than food. Portion are very small. I love Turkish food but this place kills it for me. Gona stick to Istanbul in Rivonia. Will not visit ottoman again. Thanks for ruining my appetite :-(

It was a Saturday evening and we found ourselves craving something different. We decided to go try Ottoman Palace at the Turkish Mosque in Midrand. This is a place that I've been wanting to go to for a while now.

The restaurant is huge but it is pretty dark and it lacks ambience. There were only a few tables occupied but that may have been because it was almost closing time. We ordered a couple of dishes to share between ourselves. The chicken pide and the cheese pide were my absolute favourite and something I'd order again. It was almost like a pizza but with the most delicious base. We also ordered the chicken clay, lamb cubes and potato chips. The chicken clay wasn't too bad when paired with the complimentary flatbread we were served when we arrived at the restaurant. The lamb cubes, on the other hand, is something I would not order again simply because the meat was tough, under seasoned and slightly charred. The chips were quite delicious.

I'm glad we decided to take the drive out to try this restaurant. I'd definitely like to go back and try some of the other dishes on their menu.

Food was good. Took a friend from Swaziland. The Ottoman mix grill platter is a great dish to share if you are more than one. We finished our meal with a lovely orange-flavored kheer (rice pudding) and a cuppa chai served with a slice of lemon.

I would especially recommend it to everyone,I would recommend that those looking for a halal restaurant should definitely stop by, the correct address for quality kebab

One of the best halal restaurants in Johannesburg, definitely try the "bridge", the fees are reasonable, the coffee is original, the restaurant is very authentic

Not the greatest Turkish restaurant by far. The cubed meat was overcooked. Had the mixed platter for 2 - great value for money. The rice was really good. They didn't have hummus 🤔. The chicken thigh pieces were pretty decent. Was offered complimentary Turkish tea - tasted like a standard black tea (can't comment further as I've never had Turkish tea before).

Food was relatively ok. Portions were small and price was high. Ordered the mix grill. They didn't have hummus when I went which was strange. The Turkish people behind the counters have no interaction with you. You just helped by the staff. Meh

Very warm welcome and excellent service from waiter, Einstein. Beautiful painted tile and dome decor. Food selected from impressive men - tasty and well prepared. Excellent fresh lemonade! Hot Turkish coffee served in a beaten pewter cup. Overall, an interesting, pleasant meal worth trying - we will be back to explore the menu further.

My first visit to Turkish mosque forced me to enter this place to have some turkish delicacies. Decent on price and taste. Service was prompt. Rich in ambiance.

An impromptu afternoon led us to this little gem. I called ahead and the owners managed to squeeze a table in. The tea made me think of the little cafes in Istanbul we used to frequent and the food was delicious. Was a bit disappointed that the backs a was finished but we went to the bakery and had some there. Lovely afternoon

Food was ok, but terrible service. No coffee or juices available. Unfortunately not the first time that this place has disappointed. Rather try the Turkish restaurant in Melville

Ottoman Palace is a traditional Turkish restaurant and leaves much to your imagination. I have mixed feelings about this place, as this was the first time I had eaten Turkish food, so I had to Google half of the menu just to see what was what. That being said some items on the menu was unavailable. Some meals that were ordered were good and the others not so good, I ordered the mixed grill and most of the meat was very tasty, my cousin order a beyti which was below par for me. Overall a decent experience but not the greatest.

I have been to this restaurant MANY times and never been disappointed! The food is absolutely amazing if you're looking for real Turkish flavor. The device is also amazing and the environment really makes you feel like you're in Turkey.

What an interesting find. Don't know why this place is not so famous yet. It was finding a little bit of Istanbul in Joburg. The decor is gorgeous, the food is delicious. The service can definitely be improved further. Tried the mince pides as starters, Chicken cubes for main, kunefe kadayif for dessert and to end it all a nice cup of Turkish coffee. Had a great lunch experience, will definitely be back for more.

The ottoman palace is like a piece of istanbul right here in Johannesburg. From the time a person enters the restaurant the beauty of the midrand masjid takes your breath away. The ottoman palace is like dining like a real queen in a beautifully decorated dining area. The variety on the menu suits everyone's taste buds. We had the chicken pide which is a turkish style pizza baked in a clay oven! What an a unique taste! I always love having lahmachun which is a turkish pizza too topped with mince and vegetables and a sprinkling of mozzarella cheese to finish it off... certainly is love at first bite! We also had the chicken cubes which are well spiced and served with a variety of salads which enhance the beautiful flavour of the chicken. As per turkish specialty a serving of fresh lemonade helped to complete the ottoman dining experience which is certainly fit for royalty

I went there with some friends and we all ordered something different and then shared the food between us. Everything was delicious but the Baked Clay with lamb was by far the best meal. The downside is that the service was not very good and the waiter took very long to take our orders or refill our drinks

As one travels on the busy highway between Johannesburg and Pretoria, it is likely that one’s eye will be caught by a striking vision of domes and minarets, a sight one would be much more likely to see in Istanbul, Turkey than in Midrand, Johannesburg. It is the Nizamiye Masjid, one of the most photographed works of architecture in South Africa.

I visited Ottoman Palace a week ago with my family from out of town who came to see the mosque. The restaurant was crowded after the midday prayers.

I wasn't all that impressed with the look and feel of the place, very cheaply decorated.

There were lots of screaming going on behind the scenes - in the kitchen were food was being prepared, but it's an open view. The guys preparing the dishes apparently were too slow.

We decided on takeaways because there wasn't a table with 12 seats. We went on the recommendation of the manager - a "pide", which is essentially Turkish pizza. It's made from a flat bread, edges rolled in. It was only available in one flavour - lamb and beef - mixed!

While the dish was fairly ok, I was disappointed that we had to give a rushed order because they couldn't handle the amount of people. I would have preferred sitting indoors and going through the menu properly.

I wasn't too impressed with how the afternoon turned out and won't be going back here.

WOW! What a place, what an experience! This was a new adventure for my family and we just LOVE the food, the atmosphere and the staff. Walking out to the mosque all lit up in fluorescent and the sound of prayer rounded off a great evening feast Will definitely be back!!!

This Tuesday in the Ottoman Palace is going to be a NIGHT OF RUMI show. Who want to join us?

After strolling through the gorgeous mosque next to the Ottoman Palace, we had dinner. The restaurant's decor is cold and more like a cafeteria .. could do a lot more.

BUT the food!! We had some bread with 2 dips - unfortunately I didn't ask what it was. The one dip was yoghurty, the other one dark red, so it could have been eggplant-red bell pepper. But it was soo yummy.

We were 4 people, so we order 4 platters with a bit of everything on it. Some chicken drumsticks, some chicken kebabs, swish kebabs, minute steak, riblets, flat meatballs, bulgar wheat on the bottom, grilled jalapenos, tomatoes, lettuce and flatbread with a topping.

The chicken was unbelievable soft! It was like butter!!!!! Utterly delicious! The rest of the platter was really good and delicious, nicely flavoured.

Dessert was Baklava (yummy), rice pudding (good), some other pudding and then - the highlight, dessert with cheese, Kunefe. It's baked in the oven, so it took a while. But it was utterly delightful!!!!!!!! You have to order this!!!!!!

We all had cherry juice and I had Turkish coffee. The bill was R850 for 4 people, a total bargain. Really a must visit!
