Review Munch Cafe - Midrand

Such an awesome restaurant hidden in Rosebank. Great value for money and my breakfast was beyond great. Well done to the serving staff. Ps check out the wonderful pop up store next door for December '23 Xmas shopping. Something for everyone

The perfect solo date for plant lovers. Service is top tier and the atmosphere of the restaurant makes you completely forget that you’re right next to a main road. I will bring a book next time and totally get lost in the moment.

Garden centers (and their coffee shops) can be a place of grace. For a person who does not particularly like gardening, but also dislikes malls. I am often to be found at a nursery. Perhaps, because within these places, I am reminded to slow me down and notice the patterns and recursions of nature. Munch offers grace and good food. Thank-you.

Beautiful place to have lunch in a green environment on busy rosebank. Very friendly service. Unfortunately when ordering via Uber eats multiple times issue with food or missing items.

Lovely friendly service, great food and the playground kept my toddler entertained the whole time. The Face painting was also a fun surprise. Will def come back.

Went there for a saturday lunch. We were impressed with the service, food was fresh and tasty. Table was wiped before we sat down. We were checked on a few times if everything was fine, which is great! The restaurant has a nice and modern look, especially inside. The restaurant was quite busy outside. Overall, we enjoyed the experience and food! 😊

What a nice place to meet up with a group for a catch up. Awesome staff. Neat and clean. Enjoyed it.

Such a calm, peaceful and garden feel with great food.

Oscar is a great waiter, very attentive but not intrusive

Great place for breakfast under the trees! Children's play area to one side, makes it nice for parents and non-parents alike.

Hi Rachel, thank you to you and your team for a fantastic Bridal shower. Awesome food and wonderful service. Everyone had a great time. Thanks again for making it all happen. We had a demanding table of 15 people and the service was attentive without being intrusive. Fantastic fresh platters with loads of variety. Highly recommended. We had a wonderful afternoon !

Superb and efficient service, with great tasting cakes and quality coffee. Just not very happy about the R8 charge for a tall glass when asking for tap water, especially when everyone at the table had drinks and cake. Next time I'm taking the glass home ;)

In the corner of a nursery, so very nice corner. Green and cosy. Not many tables and it might be busy but when not busy very nice place to relax. Very nice playground for kids. Nice sand under the toys. Just out of playground stairs are a little tricky for kids. Coffee was nice.

Food was tasty, cost effective and eatery is suitably placed in the nursery. Had Mediterranean salad - Forgot to take photos.

Great spot for breakfast or lunch or even just a beer. Especially when your partner is at the garden nursery for hours and insists you go with. There is also a great kids playarea and it's pet friendly.

The food was good loved the layout of the restaurant, conducive for the summer. The service on the other hand, waiters are completely rude, literally only saw her when we sat done, ended up being helped by management, it wasn't even a busy day. It really put me off. Probably won't return which is a shame because the food is good.

This has turned into our regular Sunday lunch spot.

We always manage to get the friendliest waiter named Caroline who is full of cheer and recommendations from the menu. The manager, when we are there normally a young gentleman, is always hands on roaming around collecting and dropping of plates, interacting with the customers.

The glitter cappuccino, all though a novelty and slightly silly, still makes me smile!

The pizza bases are thin and crispy, always with plentiful toppings. I enjoy the chicken breast on the flat bread as well as the chicken breast on ciabatta, still debating which is my favorite!

A relaxing peaceful place to grab a quick bite right on our door step!

So I've been here a few times and I'm declaring it our "go-to" breakfast spot. They've got a play area for the kids which is perfect for our family. I had the baby fry-up which is a smaller version of the fry up lol...it consists of one egg, generous amount of bacon, mushrooms, tomatoes, the tiniest pork sausage and a ciabatta slice. This portion is really filling for me, although my husband would complain, but maybe they could add another slice of ciabatta. Their standard cappuccino is on the small side but it tastes amazing. Hubby had the omelette and chose the usual fillings. They serve pizza for breakfast which made my little one very happy. I'm definitely a regular here.

The decor is quite lovely and the service is good. Food was adequate. Rather over priced for what you get to be honest. The eggs benedict was good and the bacon and egg pita was decent. Pizzas were slightly undercooked and underwhelming. Excellent coffee though.

They have delicious Pizza. Best eaten in the premises . But I mostly pop in for breakfast and a few hours of work. The venue is comfortable and stylish with a number of plug points for laptops. Waiters are always friendly.

Been to Munch a few times. The good: great decor and location The bad: very limited, boring menu considering the variety of good food available at many similar places and the high prices. The ugly: screaming kids on the jungle gym (if they're not your own!) when you're trying to chill with a glass of wine outside.

Very nice location and relaxed atmosphere with great cafe style food. Only drawbacks are the patchy service, especially when sitting outside, and the extraordinarily long waiting times for orders to arrive. If you are not too hungry when you arrive and don't mind having your coffee served after you've finished your breakfast then this is a good spot to watch the world go by.

Tried this place out with colleagues today. We were relieved to finally find a place to pop out to lunch to. Had the basil pesto pasta, which was absolutely delicious. My friend enjoyed the the fillet sandwich. The sweet potato chips were stale and tasted old though. But everything else was decent. Service was efficient. Would have liked to see the manager checking on tables as well.

Service was brilliant, delicious food and beautiful decor. My only recommendation would be to improve the baby changing facilities. There is a sign for it but it is merely a counter in the ladies bathroom with no changing mats etc compared to the Munch Cafe in Bryanston. Otherwise we had a lovely relaxed afternoon and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Will definitely be back!

The kiddie play area is well positioned in front of the tables and is lots of fun for the kids. The food was tasty and well cooked and pancakes with maple syrup for the little ones is great.

The service was ok. I asked for a glass of water 3 times and I'm still waiting for it.

However, I think this eatery is best taken advantage of when mom and dad need a little break from the kids and the kids need to burn off some energy.

Cutest place I've ever been that's a stone throw away from my house. Completely great for Saturday brunch meetings, the food is spectacular and the decor is inviting in a good way that also makes it a comfortable area for family gatherings. Best suited for lunch I'd say!

Vanilla iced coffee was great but both the Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine was less than average bordering on unpleasant. Mostly dry and not sure how they prep the mushroom & spinach but it's not nice.

Looooooooove the decor!!!!! Open space, rustic decor, different seat options ...

Service is excellent. The manager/owner stands and keep a watch on everything. There are some yummy-looking cakes on display.

I had the Bacon, Egg & Tomato Bruschetta. Absolutely loooove the bruschetta and the rocket with egg and tomato was just lovely.

Hein had the Chilli Mince on Ciabatta and enjoyed it. I do think the prices are a tad expensive for bread with toppings, but it was a good portion.

Quite disappointed with the service we received last night after hearing fantastic things from my family about the place. Major communication problems. Our food all came out at different times. The starter foccacias arrived 15 mins after some of the mains. Those who ordered pizza received their food after mains were finished. The restaurant wasn't busy at all so this service was quite puzzling. Needless to say will not recommend it.

Been to Munch twice. Really comfortable setting, but the food is quite average. People are friendly, even though the service is on the slow side. The Americano I ordered was really watery and had a burnt taste. Got it remade and it was slightly better. Breakfast was decent, but nothing special. I got the sense the management should invest into better chefs and some more thought in to the flavors of the good.

My husband and I tried this restaurant for the first time a couple of weeks ago and are now hooked. The food is great for breakfast and lunch. Both of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and the desserts. Staff was friendly and attentive. The only downside is like many restaurants in Joburg is that it overlooks a car park but other than that, love it. We're now 'touring' the other branches!

Overall, I had a very 'pleasant' lunch here. The staff are terribly sweet, and the food was tasty, light, and of a decent size. All three of our meals, however, had exactly the same mayonnaise dressing on, and thus had a very similar taste.

Thanks for a yummy lunch with my pooches. Cute little pizza joint ! Beers was cold, service friendly and the food tasty. Food took a while to come out but I don't mind waiting if it is good and worth the wait

Decided to try this new spot for lunch. Slow service even if restaurant is not busy and there are ample waiters. Bruschetta turned out to be a toasted sarmie on raw, doey non Italian bread. The bread more dense than plaasbrood. Flatbread also not cooked and was a pizza base not flat bread. All looked good, but did not taste good. R26 for a lime and soda, in fact everything was pricey and we had to ask for cutlery. Sorry, first and last visit but the horsey mommies from Kyalami seemed to be happy and they aldo brought along their own flies because there were many. We constantly had to shoo the flies away.

Lovely setting, great food and delicious hot chocolate. However it's so unfortunate that we had to wait over 30 minutes for a toasted sandwich and Eggs Benedict. Would like to go back but we will see.

If I were judging by the food alone I'd probably give this restaurant a 3.5, but the service we received in response to an issue was so fantastic that I had to give them a higher score. The issue was that we ordered our food (two toasted sandwiches and savoury pancakes) and over an hour later we were still waiting. The manager then came and took our order again and 20 minutes later we finally got our lunch. My toasted bacon, tomato and egg was pleasant but nothing special. My friend's toasted bacon, avo and feta was apparently very yummy and the savoury oven-baked pancakes were also good.
We then ordered a bottle of white wine as well. When the bill arrived we saw that we had not been charged for ANY of the food OR the bottle of wine. It was the management's way of apologising for the big delay. Very impressed. All of the staff were very friendly and apologetic. I will definitely be back to give them another shot simply because they handled the problems we encountered so well.

Update: 31/03/2016
Nothing's changed and I mean this is a good way, food and service still great. Hopefully will be back again

Breakfast on a sunny Saturday was great although the service was a bit slow and a lot of running around happening in the restaurant by the waiters. They were very friendly though and I love the ambiance and decor. Will definitely come back. I ordered the eggs on toast and I wasn't quite sure...

Second time back since it opened. Good atmosphere, good service, great decor. Good cafè style menu...nice choices. Kids love the extra touch marshmallows. Will go back soon.
