Celebrated my birthday here and I absolutely enjoyed it! We were welcomed immediately at the front door by our server for the night who along with the bartender went all out to ensure that our needs were met. Menu allows you to have a really good and filling meal at a reasonable price and their drinks were also really good!

I enjoyed their braai meat, well grilled and not overcooked. Meat was tender and service from staff is great

The place is such a nice and quaint place, the food is tremendously good, especially if you are in the mood for African food and the portions are extremely generous for the price you pay.

Our waitress was a lady named Daisy and she was willing to accommodate all our needs, from shifting us closer to a sunny area to the type of drinks we wanted. I will definitely be visiting this establishment again.

I’ve been dying to go to this place for a while now and I finally did !

I was here with a friend for an afternoon lunch date . The place was quite empty ,we grabbed a table outside but I went inside to get some pictures of decor .
It’s very cool and funky with a retro feel . There’s also some great art work on the walls .

What i didn’t like are the bathrooms, they’re quite far very dark and dodgey looking . I felt quite uneasy having to use them .

To eat we ordered the platter for two ,I opted for Dombolo and my friend opted for pap . The order took a while to come and the waiter ended up giving us the chakalala we had ordered as a side on the house . I wasn’t too happy with the food ,I loved the Dombolo but the meat was quite over burnt and I was annoyed about that .To drink I had a Long Island ,it was super strong and I was a bit buzzed after my second one lol . We also found out that they have a half price special on cocktails from 3-7pm ,so do cash in on that !

A little snag that I didn’t appreciate was the fact that they force you to tip . I don’t mind tipping but when it’s made a compulsion its a bit cringe .

Overall this is a good spot especially in the late afternoon and right in the heart of Melville.

Absolutely amazing dining and cocktail lounge👌. The staff was so warm, and the Manager checks on customers, the place feels like home.
Oh and the cocktails.. 🔥🔥🔥You'd never want any other. I don't even want to get started on their cuisines, well prepared and mouth watering ✨

Great food, service was quick and the price is very reasonable. The portions are really good, the creamed spinach is really good! Would definitely recommend it for someone.

Honestly it was an underwhelming dining experience given how much I was looking forward to coming here for so long. The food was nothing amazing , however the stream bread was delicious just a bit dry oh and the creamed spinach very yummy.Service was good and we were seated outside so you could enjoy the busyness of the street.

Average meal all round. We got the platter got 2. Beaf had a funny taste. Dumplings were not fresh. Cream spinach was below average and soggy. My hot water and lemon took 10 mins to come.

Dijo tse di monaaaaate. Lol I'm obsessed with dombolo and theirs tasted great. The meat was nice. Food and Drinks are so cheap, I definitely love that. I would definitely come back here

The food!!! The food was great! I think the only meat that wasn’t nice was the rashers but I wasn’t bothered because everything else was sooo nice.

I think the platter for 4 doesn’t have enough sides because it was just the two of us and I had to request more dumpling!

The place doesnt look amazing but it’s decent, the vibe too! But the FOOD was EVERYTHING!!!

I really loved the wings. They were well spiced and sauced. The meat was OK and the wors were good. I had a takeaway, but the waitress who took my order was very friendly and conversational.

The food was absolutely amazing ! The best mogodu I’ve ever had in Johannesburg 🔥🔥. Was easy to find too , relaxed atmosphere. I highly recommend it

Being a proffessional chef for 12 years I have been through a couple of restaurants and hotels in my life...... and visiting grill lounge was one the of the best experiences I have ever had being in a different environment , they never treated me different and wow their service was world class, the owner must at ease to read this and he must be very proud of their service and hospitality. Well done

The space itself needs a face lift.y friend and I thought we were at the wrong place because it looked rather dodgy. The meat and the sides tasted great. Our cocktails were perfection. Service needs to be worked on

Polite and friendly waitressing staff, the service was great! The cream spinach is to die for!!! However my "Mugodu" was not properly washed and had a crunch sand-like texture in the mouth. Other that than, I'd come back here any day.

Great food and good music and good service. The food was made just the way we liked it and it tasted way better than we expected. Our waiter was friendly and treated us with respect and made sure we were taken care of the right way.

I still owe this place another visit!

I first went here when this had just opened and I loved the atmosphere. Totally like the concept of the buy 1 get 1 free cocktail special.

We ordered the platter and I would not stop raving about the steamed bread. The meat was alright, nothing I haven't tasted before especially for a shisanyama/bbq style, but the steamed bread though 😍😍😍😍 got mad love.

Located on the narrow streets of Melville on 4th Avenue, finding parking can be a hassle. This place is your very typical modern indoorsy chisa nyama. The food menu is very straightforward.
I ordered the Platter for Two for takeaway with pap, chakalaka and creamed spinach. Very reasonably priced. Their food is absolutely delicious, freshly made.
Their service could do with a bit of improvement though.

Have been there two times now, i thought maybe the 1st time is was a small mistake with mugodu not properly cleaned, both times my mudogu was sandy...too disappointing and getting them on the phone is a mission.

Made an order through UberEats but it turned out they were offline. I called in and made an order, went to collect and the food had not been prepared in the promised time. Plus, they gave me the wrong order and never apologised for it.

This has happened twice.

Melville grill lounge is an aesthetically underwhelming establishment, I was so skeptical about dining here, the whole look and feel of the place, almost killed my vibe. Anyway tried it out because my friend insisted that the food is good. So alas I tried it out... the menu is very limited (African food type of vibe) however very affordable. The food we ordered was simply plated and beautifully prepared. The service was very warm and friendly.

I was craving chisa nyama so a friend of mine recommended the lounge. I ordered their platter for two to go. WORST MEAL. The Dumpling was doughy, the meat and wors were burnt and the creamed spinach was sandy, I'm guessing the spinach wasn't washed. I'm actually quite annoyed as I couldn't take the food back since it was takeaway and I live a bit far.

For the month of February, I've been craving a traditional meal and I decided to hit up Melville Grill Lounge despite the bad reviews on Facebook.

Got there, stood by the door for long until one of the customers told the waiter that there's people by the door, then we were shown our table.

The food took an hour and a half to come, we had ordered chicken wings as our starter, it arrived after our main meal. The food was excellent but their bad service overshadows the quality of their food.
