Review Makiti Restaurant - Krugersdorp

Attended for a function, but this place has some seriously delicious waffles. I had the "bacon and egg" waffle stack, which is like a sandwich, but only with waffles. I also had a plain full waffle with ice cream, caramel sauce and peppermint crisp. They also have a play area for the kids and a big cage where they have some budgies and bunnies. My only complaint would be that there was a mix up with the bill and ended up waiting a while, before I went to them to rectify the mistake, we are all human and mistakes can be made, but a nice place overall.

We went on a Monday but on Google maps it shows that it's closed on Monday. Not sure why. We almost missed the opportunity to have some delicious waffles. My husband ordered a pizza which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had some savory waffles. My only problem was that the Waffle itself was sweet and I feel like maybe the batter could have been a bit more savory as well. If you into sweet and savory, this won't be a problem for you. We also has a sweet Waffle, the malva Waffle. It was my first time tasting this but oh my goodness. It was sweet, creamy, delicious. I'd go back again just to have that Waffle. The restaurant was quite empty tho so hard to comment on the atmosphere. I did like that they have a big play area for kids. That's a bonus.

Great food, we enjoyed the waffles and the kids enjoyed the play area. Ample parking and friendly staff. Secure and safe with a large menu to choose from.

Such a gem in the Komdraai area. We went to the caves for a tour and makiti was the lunch spot. This was a better option than eating at the caves itself. The staff were friendly and helpful Accessibility was easy and there is enough parking. The food offer was really good. The meals are well priced. The waffles were a complete winner.

We attended a wedding at this venue. The Staff were very professional and they did a good job. The co-ordinator kept the master of ceremonies up to date with all the different arrangements. The church had a nice atmosphere. Well done to you all.

Great food and good customer service. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant. You also get to choose between indoors and outdoors sitting so that's a plus, especially if you love nature because this is one of those really green areas.

Its very quiet. Only a few people were there and that's good especially when people are careful during this pandemic.. Pizza was great. We got blown away by their meat packed pizza.

Best steak I have ever had at a restaurant! Haven't had rump steak since hubby left for Cape Town and after such an amazing church service this morning I needed a good cup of coffee and just had to settle this craving. First time ever at @makitiweddingvenue_official Waffle House. Amazing Service and food! I like my steak Medium Rare, but more rare than medium. The chef personally visited to confirm my request. Grilled to perfection! Definitely not the last visit! Oh and that garlic sauce! My kids says it's the best waffles ever! #makiti #makitiweddingvenue #wafflehouse #cradleofhumankind #Krugersdorp #waffles #steak #hishealinghandschurch #hhhchurch

Waffles were super moist but had too much eggs for my liking. I enjoyed the malva pudding on top. Great atmosphere

Absolutely đź’Ż percent wonderful place. The food is even better. Had a Makiti burger with was delicious and ginormous. The chips were absolute tasty and crispy. The staff was friendly and helpful. Wonderful place. The kids can enjoy themselves on the area for them. Can recommend this place to anyone who's looking for good food. Safe on-site parking with security at the gate. The only negative that I have us that they close at 20:00. Would love to, love to, love to go there again.

I have had waffles twice here and waffles are definitely really good! However, the smaller portion size on the menu is misleading. It says one portion of the waffle however it is literally 1/4 of a full waffle when my friends and I were expecting half a waffle.
I suggest the menu have an option for half a waffle as some people can’t eat a full waffle. The one portion waffle - which is actually 1/4 - is too small and leaves you hungry.. especially if you come to this restaurant purely to eat waffles.

Otherwise, I really like the waffles - if I had children I would bring them as there is a nice play area for children.

Bride to Bride; My Nightmare at MAKITI WEDDING VENUE – MULDERSDRIFT

If you are a Bride that wants your day to run smoothly, I HIGHLY DON'T recommend this venue. It’s a sausage factory and unfortunately the bride and groom are the sausages. They have weddings on every day, they are fully booked, but this is not because of their service and its purely because of their pricing. THIS IS A BUDGET VENUE, NOT A SERVICE VENUE!

There is no Management and the coordinators are not trained, they don’t do weddings for the love of it and simply for the money. We sent them an email (To Annemarie) to tell them about our experience, before taking to social media, and everything was redirected at it being our fault and insinuating that we are lying, even though my guests had witnessed everything, and jumped in to save our day. All I wanted was an apology and we gave them that chance, but we received an email stating that we are the problem, not them. Hello Peter says otherwise…and all those negative reviews are true!

The Venue is BEAUTIFUL (some maintenance needed), and the promises made by them are every brides dream; but the promises were not kept!

Here are some of the things that went wrong:

• I asked about if repairs to the bathroom would be made and if the horrible urine smell would be cleared, I was then blocked off all Makiti’s Facebook pages. This turned out to be a very valid question, because 2 of our guests commented on the smell of the bathrooms and the horrible neon reusable soup containers - I had to bring in our own hand soap to give a more professional look, I mean really? The ashtrays were plastic cups?! It’s a joke.

• VIEW THE ACCOMDATION BEFORE BOOKING!!!! Dirty, not maintained.

• Our Coordinator changed 3 times, and I met my coordinator 1.5 hours before I walked down the aisle, by that time my family had pulled my wedding together. I was 45min late walking down the aisle as I had to do Makiti’s job for them…me the bride!

• I was not shown where the bridal room was and when I went to go and ask where to find it, I was met with absolute disrespect from the receptionist (Marioze) who pointed a finger in the direction of the bridal room and said “it's over there” which I then inquired where the wedding coordinator was and stressed my frustration that there is nobody here to help me as agreed and this receptionist looked at me with a cheeky face as if to say “I don’t give a sh#t” battling to hide her smile. Her response was that they only provide assistance 2 hours before the wedding: BUT this was not what was sold to us?! I have never felt so disrespected in my life…. and this was for a receptionist (Marioze) at a venue which we paid a considerable amount of money to host our wedding… disgusting. We had several other guests who all commented on the horrible attitude of the receptionist. This is the 1st person you see when entering an establishment, Makiti should be ashamed.

• While setting up in a complete panic, Makiti was, trying to sell the venue to people….+-20 people completely in the way. We had booked the venue, it was our day and this showed complete disrespect!

• Move forward a few hours, myself, Mother and Aunt had setup the Ballroom reception, moving tables, laying the tablecloths and placing the decorations (staff assisting here and there, but were half asleep). At 13:00 the wedding coordinator arrived!!! 3h30m late!!! This was not the wedding coordinator that we were told would be assisting us and it seemed that she didn’t actually get any details or information around our wedding, where I had handed over a detail excel sheet to Angelique and Ananda that were meant to be there or at least handover to Chantel. Now I just want to say before moving on that even though she was not our wedding coordinator, and even though she arrived so late, she went above and beyond to try and fix our day. She made every effort to make up for the treacherous morning I had and was an absolute star the for the remainder of the day. She even said that if she had known she would have been at the venue at 06:00am if that was what was needed! Now I don’t know what the circumstance was for the change in coordinator or the fact that she didn’t get any details around what was discussed and agreed in the meeting regarding times of arrival, what was required and what was expected and quite frankly I don’t give a dam. We paid for a service, it's up to you to fulfill that service and ensure that if there is a change in coordinator that she is given every detail of what is expected.

• Our privately hired DJ had to take over placing the chair covers on the chairs at the riverside chapel so that my mother could go get her make up done… I mean seriously. OUR DJ…..What sort of establishment are they running. I had a complete breakdown and ended up collapsing on the grass in tears because Makiti’s non-existent service. NONE of their promised were met. As soon as we paid the remainder of the money owed to them, that was the end of their involvement.

• We had to BEG for a room to be ready by 1pm, for the groomsmen to get ready in… BEG. Not much to ask for seeing its 2 hours before the wedding and the guys do need to take photos….BEG! Now when mentioning this, other venues offer a complimentary room for the groom to get ready in (Avianto)

• I was 45min late for the ceremony, why, because when she was supposed to be getting ready she was doing Makiti’s job.

• I had arranged for an extra guest, all confirmed by Angelique’s end, that all was updated…. guess what, the guest had to use a patio chair. How embarrassing on our behalf. Several of our guests mentioned how you can see the staff are so sick of weddings and that they are all half asleep.

• Another annoyance we spotted was that the dessert that we paid a surcharge for (lemon meringue) was actually a SPAR bought lemon meringue… we saw it in the packaging. WHAT!!????

• They deducted from our deposit for 45 broken glasses, which we know was not possible! But what leg do we have to stand on. We know the waiter dropped a tray, but that tray was not carrying 45 glasses…again, all about the money.

• We paid a surcharge of R8 per head to spoil our guests with a fancier pudding, its was advertised as freshly baked in little oven trays….it was store bought and was presented in the packaging.

• Our guests left clothing in the room, we called the next day to find out if it was handed in by the staff…..GONE! BUT, Hello Peter is filled with reviews about the theft that goes on at this venue, not exactly a shocker.

• We are still waiting for our deposit return…. Wedding was on the 18th April.

We took a drive out yesterday for my mom's birthday to have lunch at the place that is known for their waffles.
I had pasta arrabiata which was tasty, but had just that little bit too tomatoe. Maybe a bit more garlic and herbs could've broken that, but it was good all the same.
Their handcut chips are super amazing! Crunchy on the outside, soft on the inside and spiced to perfection.
The waffles are good, I had an apple cinnamon slice which was not too sweet and just enough as dessert. I'm not sure what ice cream they use, but it's tasty.
The very afrikaans music they played the whole time, was a bit tormenting and not to everyone's taste...

Amazing foo, waffles and delicious Sunday buffet. After cycling in the cradle of human kind, me and my wife had such an awesome lunch at this restaurant. Great place for the kiddies to have lots of fun and also a few wild life animals. will definitely make a day of it again.

Me and some friends enjoyed the buffet food Sunday. Great playground for the kids. Will definitely visit again. thank you Sandile for great service.

And a"1" is being lenient.

This is by far the worst experience I have ever had at a restaurant.

I booked a week in advance, only to arrive and made to stand in the door like a lost toddler waiting for the hostess to finish up her phone call. Apparently none of the other staff are able and/or capable to read a booking list.

After standing in the door for 10min I was told we would be seated outside (on this the coldest weekend of the year). Apparently there were heaters and blankets... I am still to see same.

None of the staff felt it necessary to show us out to our table and the available tables outside were dirty with sugar residue and empty straw papers scattered everywhere.

Needless to say, we left without ordering.

Horrendously disappointed with the appalling service! A waste of our time, petrol and energy.

Makiti is possibly the worst restaurant I have ever been to! We waited over an hour for someone to take our drinks order, then waited another half an hour for drinks. We opted for desserts only due to the delay and I had cheesecake that I could not eat because it was simply a gelatinous mess on the plate overpowered by tons of granadilla! Awful, awful experience, I will never go back.

What a disappointment... playground in a state, and not well kept, and a trees branches growing over and hanging on the slide.
food was okay, but takes too long, and does not arrive together, so when half the table is finished, others are still waiting for their meal.
Our main waiter Robert was good and polite, so were most of the staff, but, my daughter got coke spilled on her clothes by another clumsy waiter obviously training, (to which my daughter was polite).
Were there on previous occasions, about 2015 and enjoyed, but this last visit very dissapointing, not worth it!!!

Great place for kids to play. If I ever have only 1 cappuccino at a place it's because it's really poor... Had the boboeti waffle slice which was ok, followed by banana and caramel waffle for dessert, again ok. Don't come here for a great food experience, more for a day out for kids...

No cupachio, no coffee, no orange juice, very slow service. Last visit.

As a family restaurant - which is what this place is - it's perfect. Not being a lover of dog food ala Spur, I was pleased to have quite a range to choose from whilst the kids kept themselves entertained for hours. I rate the naked burger (bun less) and the waffles are fantastic. Will be back again and again. Great, friendly staff :)

We tried the waffles and were pleasantly surprised. We shared the Bobotie one and then ordered a koeksister one for dessert. One waffle is a generous portion. With three koeksisters and ice cream plan to be hungry! It's a drive for just a waffle but consider it for a stop if you're in the area. The service was average. There is a play area for children which make it worth the trip for families. Prices are a bit steep considering the location. Parking is a challenge if there are weddings taking place.

Besides the fact that it is toe moor and gone from Kensington , the place is quite cute and spacious . Don't recommend eating anything else there besides the waffles . Most of my table had the buffet which looked homely and plentiful but I opted for the seafood basket , major let down . Only saving grace was the Koeksister waffle my brother and I shared , so light and fluffy with what tasted like homemade vanilla ice cream on top , Yum !

Will not be going there again. Today we waited for one and half hours for the food. We complained to the manager, I think that's when our food order was put through, but we got up to leave as that took another 20mins. There was another couple who got up to leave for the same reason. This was not the first time that this happened, but the 3rd time. Its really sad as this is a lovely place with good food, but Makiti you have made a fool of us for the last time.

Was so dissapointed with the foodservice we received here today. Firstly our coffee order took 15 min because of a shortage of cups. One of our party had the buffet breakfast but was waiting for the rest of the groups food to arrive before dishing up. The food order was placed at 8:45 and when at 9:45 it had not come yet I decided to go dish up as the buffet ends at 10:00 when I got to the buffet most of the dishes was finished and I was told sorry there is no more. We enquired about the food as we had 4 very hungry kids waiting for their cinnamon pancakes. We called the manager on duty who seemed completely out of her debt. We ended up paying for drinks and getting mcdonalds. Waisted 2 hours of our relaxing public holiday. When I made the booking I was called back and informed that our booking is from 8-10 and we are excpected to leave at 10:00 ( kind of funny as they could not even complete our order in that time). Maybe you should worry more about your kitchen turn around time than your table turn around time.

I was enticed by the idea of a waffle house, when indeed, the waffles were a magnificent experience. My chicken schnitzel could have come with less cheese sauce but portions were generous. My apple cinnamon cream cheese and ice cream waffle, albeit decadent, was a magnificent treat. A very down to earth place located in the pristine Magalies beauty.

Had a reservation for lunch Sunday 3rd January. After investigating on line things looked good.
Ordered the usual drinks and perused the menu. 2 buffets, a rump steak and a fish and chips ordered.
Buffet ran out of lamb, and staff had to "fetch more !!!!!". Our waitress either took sick, or her shift ended or she just left.
Management arrived after 45 mins to say that another waiter would be serving our table. Steak and fish arrived, general consensus on steak and fish OK.
R 125 per person for the buffet - my opinion, they can't still be going through the learning curve.
I got the feeling that the wedding venues were more preferred by the staff and management.
Again, maybe I am biased by the choice one has for a Sunday lunch in Johannesburg and its environs, so end by saying go to Wimpy.

Went in for their Two for One Wednesday Waffle special. Ordered three Malva Waffles and an Cinnamon Apple Waffle, was impressed with how absolutely great it was but server didn't understand that one of the Malva Waffles would be free seeing as the special stated that but wanted to send us home with one waffle each. Staff isn't trained properly and needs work, bathroom was dirty and service was a bit slow. Needs to be under new management. Heard a woman complain and send back chicken as it was dry and not edible.

What a huge disappointment today at Makiti. We have been here a few times and have enjoyed the place. Today we ordered hake and chips and their French chi@cken burger. The fish was very ripe, on sending it back, we were told that there was nothing wrong. So we payed for the meal. The French burger was a @small chicken breast on gherkins for R80. We told the manager as we were leaving who casually said: "sorry about that". So we spent our huge family spoil at a place who really couldnt care if we returned at all. Very sad.
Best waffles in town. The banana and caramel is to die for! Great service and friendly staff as we arrived at the gate till we paid the bill.

Went for the Sunday cavery. Bit disappointed at R120.00 layout of table not user friendly. Salads "coleslaw, beetroot and a mixed salad". then pudding custard was too funny. then veg and 2 meats. "Beef and chicken". Maybe we just expect more after going to indaba. Not your standard cavery. Not sure if we will be back in a hurry but great for parents with small children as kiddies play area was well equipped.

The food is really good - chips are the best and the waffles are heavenly but the servers aren't well trained and lack professionalism. The staff and systems seem very disorganised and management don't check on their customers but instead sit and eat then disappeared entirely.

Cycling through the Cradle of Humankind I've often seen the sign for Makiti and finally decided to stop and have a coffee and waffle from the wafflehouse. It was quiet and I was the only customer but it was late Tuesday morning. The waffle was great with a warn square of malva pudding on top served with ice cream and the coffee tasted fresh and strong. Paid using Zapper which is very convenient. Ordered a Coke to fill my bottle but was disappointed to be charged R15 for 300ml. Not sure I'll be back.
Jo Judnick-Wilson
Mediocre at best. Sent our kids food back. Looked lovely from the pictures, but utterly disappointing. Menu needs a altering, kitchen needs training, bathrooms were gross, play area needs management. It had all the potential for a beautiful spot outside of Joburg, but poorly managed and executed.
Vanessa Van Den Heever
This restaurant in my opinion just makes an average rating, but balances on the brink of under average. Food is nothing spectacular. Kids play area looks much better on the picture than it really is. Service was also just average. Chicken schnitzel was dry and tasteless. Kids burger comes with a patty less than half the size of the bun. Kids shared a pain waffle and ice cream which was nice. I Ordered plain baked cheese cake with a scoop of vanilla ice cream for dessert(or at least this is what was advertised on their menu) , got a creamy jelly pudding drowned in a bowl of grenadella soup with no ice cream and it was not a mistake, that is apparently their version of "baked cheese cake". Manager didn't even bother to talk to us, just sent the bill. Needless to say that this restaurant will be scrapped of my list.

Nice venue out in the cradle of mankind.
Childfriendly and nice play area for kids
What a pity, good food but service poor and manager disinterested!
Waffles made up for the bad service again.

We went to makiti for desert, we enjoyed it a lot. I had a malva pudding which was amazing definetly in the top 3 malva puddings i v had. The place is nice and quiet a nice get away from the city really lovely

Food was good, service a little slow.....never got to try their Waffles but will come back for that. Play area for kids a bonus for those with little ones.
