Review The Drydock Food Co - Knysna

Katie K
Great restaurant overlooking the marina. Good selection of seafood, meat and sushi. Slightly more on the pricey side but worth the money. Good selection of beers on tap. We (2 people) were able to walk in and get a table on a Sunday evening in off season even though the place seemed busy.

Food was good, portions a tad on the small side, but bear in mind it is a "upmarket" establishment. Had better and had worse but definitely on my short list of favourites. Went there on recommendation of a friend who lives in Herold Bay. Can recommend them for anyone passing through or on holiday here. Oh and rather make a reservation, I am travelling on my own and almost did not get a table and this was out of season on a Thursday evening.

We wanted to go have lunch in Knysna and were looking for some seafood options. We ordered the seafood platter for 4 and some local wine. Everything about the experience was incredible . Some of the best seafood platters you will find. A must if you are looking for some great seafood in Knysna!

What an experience. They were very busy and booked and still managed to give us a table. The drinks were delicious and not watered down. The decor is tasteful and stylish with a beautiful view over the harbour. But the food! Deliciois does not describe it. The ratatouille and polenta were first class, the Kingklip was fresh and phenomenal. Even as busy as they were, the service was friendly and attentive. The manager even stopped by for a chat about my partner's tattoos. I'd come back to Knysna all the way from GP just to have dinner at Drysock again.

The food was good not the best in Plettenberg the fries was oily and soggy and calamari little bit chewy but the view was amazing with the sunset

If you're looking for a memorable dining experience in Knysna, DryDock Food Co. is the place to be. Located right by the waterfront, this restaurant offers not just a meal but a captivating atmosphere. The friendly service we received added a special touch to our evening. Our waiter was not only knowledgeable but genuinely warm and attentive. As for the food, I opted for the seafood platter and was blown away. Fresh, perfectly cooked seafood made each bite a delight. The presentation was impeccable, adding to the overall experience. DryDock Food Co. is a hidden treasure in Knysna. Whether you're a local or just passing through, it's a must-visit. With its stunning waterfront location, exceptional service, and mouthwatering seafood, it's an experience you won't forget. I highly recommend it.

Brandon and his team are exceptional! I have a shellfish allergy and they were so caring and careful. The pizza was delicious and a great portion size. Others in our group had delicious steak and the catch of the day. All plates were beautifully laid out. The crème brûlée is the best!!!

Good food and a nice vibe by the waterfront. Service is beyond exceptional - every single staff is so friendly, helpful and attentive to their guests. Would go again for sure

Excellent food and great service. Went early so no reservation required. Table overlooking Marina, very pretty and relaxing. I've never had oysters but decided to try them, absolutely delicious. Husband had seared tuna salad, also delicious. Followed by (me) Catch of day with fresh mixed veg and rice, ( husband, Calamari, prawns, chips). 1 bottle of Rose, 1 carafe of Leopards Leap and I Tia Maria. Total, £55.00. Amazing, couldn't fault anything and have booked for tomorrow night.

We loved stopping at this beautiful restaurant in Knysna. We were looking for fresh, great seafood & oysters, and Drydock delivered that and more! The atmosphere is beautiful, and even though there was a queue, it moved very fast to accommodate those waiting. Brendon, the manager, is so kind and helpful. He made sure we were doing well the entire time & he had great wine suggestions. We loved the sushi, Rockefeller oysters, prawns, seafood curry, and hake. You can’t go wrong with this restaurant— very great!!

We had a delicious dinner here. The steaks and veggies were cooked to perfection. Our waitress, Zama was one of the best servers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. All the wait staff were very well groomed and manicured, and very professional. The location was amazing and our dinner here was the best we had on our holiday. We will be back for sure!

Love this restaurant! Right on the Knysna harbour with a view of all the boats and marina so the location is unbeatable. Incredibly impressed with the quick well trained servers. Even though our server was new she was so attentive and friendly. All the food portions were so large and delicious. The prawns with the butter sauce are a true star and is a must order item. Came out incredibly quickly from the kitchen. We loved it so much we came back with friends the next night! Tip: reserve early or chance having to wait in line for a table. Since I was staying at the Protea, I emailed and they were so accommodating. Pro-tips: - Prokard Explorer member restaurant so they will give you a discount depending on the number of guests eating with you (up to 50%) - corkage: they will allow you to bring your own nice wine to enjoy and charge a small corkage

While you're waiting to board a cruise on your vacation, this is one of the best places to dine

Very very good restaurant with fantastic view on the harbour. Tables inside and outside available, although the outside ones could get more cosy lights around. Otherwise you won't see the great arrangement on your plate ;) Definitely the best calamari tubes salad I have ever had!
Nevin Thebus
Excellent food, excellent service and friendly staff. The setting was amazing, good delicious and the ambiance was great. Stunning Harbour views to enjoy while digging in to the oyster experience and fresh seafood 🐠. We had ample staff around us to assist us and even managers were always checking in and ready to take pics where needed 😊😎. Lovely spot and a must do when in Knysna 👌👌👌
Yolande Steyn
Excellent calamari, best Dark Chocolate Brownie in Knysna! Very friendly staff. Beautiful views. Love the new upstairs dining area revamp. I can't wait to enjoy a fireside meal in winter!
Morné Grobler
Horrible and tasteless food. The portion size for a calamari and prawn combo is a rip off for a R145. The prawns tasted like Mccain prawns straight from the lagoon and are about the size of half a pinky. It's a portion slightly larger than a starter The tartar sauce is basically mayonnaise with carrots in it. At least the crème brulee was good, but who goes to the coast to eat that. Feels like the place has become way to commercialised and lost that special vibe. I don't recommend you go eat here, there are far better places than this. Pathetic.

Poor experience, and would not recommend at all. My daughter ordered a kiddies burger and received 2 x sliders buns were rockhard and only a quarter patty on each. Had to re-order fir her. 4 x Of us had the hake ... tasted like frozen fish cooked, Very disappointed. Most expensive meal ever paid and not the money worth.

What a lovely place to eat at when in Knysna. My husband and I visited them twice while honeymooning. Romantic, amazing, friendly and service, and probably the best sushi we have ever had (we have had sushi in every place we visit). Thank you Drydock! We will most definitely be back someday.
Jody Kolbee
So first off, if you're gonna put a gourmet Burger on the menu with an egg, then there best be an egg. Don't bullshit and say the egg is mixed with the patty. Also, Rainbow Rolls have a good amount of Avocado on the top, not a microscopic piece. Same with the burgers, they didn't even have more than one small slice on there. Not coming back again. Sorry, but please improve.
Ancia Schlemmert
Excellent service. The food is pricy but definitely worth it. Had a great experience and will surely recommend to friends and family.
Brenda Wild
We had a sushi platter which was delicious. The vibe was awesome with excellent live music. Highly recommended!
Leilani G. Van Willing
Very disappointing meal. Honey glazed pork was tough and tasteless. Chips too soggy. Only nice thing was the view. Will definitely not recommend.
Denzil Bush
My wife and I try and go there every Friday. Excellent food, excellent service and excellently situated. Definitely recommend to family and friends visiting Knysna.
Ciky Licky
We didn't wait long considering we didn't book. The food was divine. From seafood to steak as we eat different types. Our waiter took good care of us. We had dessert which was awesome. Brownie in a cup. We will be in Knysna in March, we sure gonna dine there again.
Tara-lee Holtzhausen
The food was tasteless. I was so disappointed. I had salmon roses that really broke my heart as these are my favourite. The fell apart, they weren't wrapped correctly. My husband had gourmet burger and chips and ordered it well done. It was still pink and the chips had no flavour and hardly any spice. My son ordered kids burger and chips and he didnt enjoy any of it. For a child to not like chips....we saw our waiter three times the enitire seeting. Once to order once to bring our foor and once to remove it. We had to walk to the fron to pay because we never even had the opportunity to ask for the bill.

Went there for Mom’s 60th birthday. They treated her like royalty. Lennox is a fantastic waiter, he organized the entire staff to sing happy birthday to our mother. Best calamari ever and great steaks
Lasheigh Nicole O'Ehley
My husband and I had an absolutely amazing experience at Drydock. The food is lovely, staff is friendly and cocktails are to die for. The views are stunning, was the perfect honeymoon dinner date location for us.
Gerrie van der Westhuizen
If you have a lot of time to waist this is the place to go to, to wait for tasteless overcooked food
Stacey-Lee Gerber
For what you pay for and what the quality food is.... really pathetic. Asked for a side salad I get a plate of lettuce they charge me R154.00 ????? Damn that was my worst experience ever never referring anyone to this restaurant
Ling
Sat for 15 mins and no service. Did not have any of the food, but it is a trap for foreigners to seem fancy, lots of pretentiousness with people who do not feel service is important. All the manager could ask was where we were sitting, poor attitude and the worst experience.
Bradley Ainge
We had the best waiter in the entire restaurant, and he was a trainee!!! Superb service from him, thank you! The food was great, but the sushi wasn’t the best. Constructive criticism here, less rice, more fish 😊
The Patagonian Squid was superb, so was the fish and chips, half baby chicken peri peri was succulent and tasty! We will be back to try the sushi again and other items on your menu before we head back to Joburg!
Kurt Erasmus
Out with a group of friends scouting for a restaurant able to accommodate us during load-shedding. Drydock was there for us, and nothing on the menu was restricted as a result. Regardless, their food was very good, and perfect portions. Staff very friendly even with a large group. Will definitely recommend to others who are visiting the area.
Mpho Mogale
A really busy spot, for obvious reasons.

Very relaxed in its feel, with simplistic decor.

The food is as can be expected. Surprising how quickly the food comes out, despite how full it gets. Great ambiance and it’s overlooking the harbour - like, what?! Naaarce!

Service can be a little slow, but the vibe makes up for it.
Johannes
Patagonian Squid Tubes - an amazing dish that I ordered (flavour profile was amazing). Combine that with the great view, gives you a very relaxed and enjoyable lunch experience.
Vignesh
We were here today... amazing place.. but we were very disappointed by the service of one of the staff working there.. his attitude towards us was very bad.. his attitude was like "you don't belong here, in this restaurant". Because of his bad service and attitude we could not enjoy the food nor the ambience.

Firstly ,one has to comment on the beautiful view of the knysna waterfront as Drydock is situated in the perfect place to view the area. They had a welcoming staff, which is always great! During season one finds that waiters/waitresses tend to neglect some of their tables but this was not the case. My friends & I ordered pasta as well as a sushi platter, the sushi was fresh & I would recommend it for any seafood lover. One can never go wrong with a white Sauvignon blanc (Two Oceans) when having seafood. It was an overall good experience!
Jonathan Thomas
Amazing Oysters and outstanding Platter. Service was timely and friendly. Everything was fresh. Left there happy and full. Recommend this spot
Daniel Martinho
Stopped off for dessert and coffee. Apple crumble tasty and well presented. Friendly staff who were not intrusive. Enjoyable and out of miserable weather with radiant heaters making up for some drafts coming through the canvas walls
Foodie
Ambiance is great with excellent location. We ordered the seafood platter which was generous. The prawns were slightly over cooked. The peri peri dipping sauce is to die for.
Sonja Offwood
We went during the Knysna festival so it was very busy, but the service was still good. Unfortunately the food was slightly disappointing. I had the mussels, which were very bland, the sushi was also average. My friend had the sirloin steak which was good. Overall the Drydock was average, but the location in the Knysna waterfront is very convenient.
Chad Flores
This restaurant has just about everything you would expect from a 6-star establishment. From the moment you enter the restaurant until you finished your meal, you are sure to be treated like their VIP guest. Keep up the amayonaising work.

Was in Kysna on business on Valentines Day 😩 and tried this restaurant. It was very busy with tourists and I suppose because of Valentines. Nico (the manager?) after a slight hassle arranged a table for me. Not fun eating alone on Valentines.

Ordered the sushi as a starter - it was good The main meal was fish and it was really tasty. My waitress, Louise, was attentive and pleasant

I would recommend this restaurant.

We took a chance and popped in around 9.30 ish on New Year’s Eve. They found a table for 2 upstairs and we were so glad they did!

Our waiter was friendly and fun and efficient. We started with cocktails and the strawberry daiquiri was fabulous, full of fresh strawberries.

We tried a selection of sushi and I can recommend the Tiger Platter as well as the tempura prawns.

Lovely food, fab service and a lively vibe made it a hit for us.
Erica Geldenhuys
They had a great oyster and beer special, loved that. Food was average, calamari’s were a bit over spiced. The value for money was on the lower end. Service was good. View is great! Overall not bad restaurant. If you are counting pennies go to ocean basket instead
Diederik Van 't Hof
Had a very pleasant dinner here. Biggest plus is the setting. Fantastic views over the lagoon from the top deck. Calamari was crispy fried and juicy. Great atmosphere and friendly staff.
Russel Roth
Sushi was decent , not too much rice which is what I expected for half price sushi , so pleasantly surprised.
Service was very good , pleasant atmosphere
Dew Krog
Great food, excellent service from our waiter Stefan. Nice view overlooking the waterfront. What a great place for our last meal in Knysna...
Hesham El Masry
It's a bad place. The food is not cooked at all and small portions. Not worth the price. Sushi is good. Service is fine. But this food not cooked well really upset me and also in ordered shrimps really didn't taste good at all.

What a romantic little spot!
We enjoyed dinner overlooking the dock by candlelight whilst the cosy fire burned away in the back ground.
Of course being by the coast we only had 1 thing in mind- seafood! And it didn't disappoint.
We began with the oysters, they were fresh and prepared really well, I personally don't love it when oysters are really wet and still full of water when they come out, these guys had it spot on.
Big juicy mussels in a white wine sauce to start followed by what might be the most tender hake I've ever had, it literally fell apart and was seasoned beautifully!
Then dessert we had the kaluha chocolate mousse.
Oh em gee! What an indulgence, but a good one.
Neither of us could manage more than half but we enjoyed every bit of it!
Jenevieve Fabre
Exceptionally over priced and food very average. I was so hungry after my main meal which cost nearly R200 on its own that I ordered another course.. and I am a small women with not a large appetite. Won't be back.

Not an amazing experience by any stretch of the means. We decided to book and go to Drydock last week (first week of January) and expected it to be quite full which it definitely was. The restaurant is built for tourists from head to toe - prices are inflated and the service delivery is designed more around your lethargic 4/5 hour dinners. Was very surprised to see that a glass of Leopard's Leap Lookout Red Wine was probably the best wine that they had under red wine.

We had the Lamb Curry, Chicken with Prawns, Butternut Roulade and the Stir Fry - the food was OK at best. I feel that Drydock will be a great restaurant the moment they shake off that greedy tourist personality; being said not really their fault as that seems to be Knysna's vibe in general.
Suzanne L Payle
Visited Drydock food Co on vacation and was sorely disappointed with the service and especially the food. Prawns overcooked and fish curry was not enjoyable. Totally overpriced for what they served up. Avoid if possible. Many other choices all I'm sure would be better than this place.

We decided to stop over here for lunch en route to J Bay. We knew being Boxing Day that it would be busy and we did not expect to get our food immediately.
From being seated to ordering our first drink we were attended to by three different waiters, at this point we thought the service was amazing . However , after receiving our beverages and placing our starter and main course order , we were simply forgotten about . We ordered 2 oysters , which took 45 minutes to come out . Another hour and a half passed and we had not yet received our main course. By now the restaurant had emptied out quite a substantial amount and still no food . Our "designated" waiter was no where to be found. Being a chef myself, and knowing the difficulties of the industry i am always patient and try to be understanding . But this was a bit much . After enquiring about the food the manager eventually brought the food out. It wasn't exactly what we ordered but we weren't prepared to wait another 2 hours. Our waiter eventually sauntered over to the table and sighed "finally" . As if it had been the kitchens fault for the poor service .
The food was good thank you very much , a bit over priced for what you get, but your service is what let you down. We always leave a tip but today was a first. We really hope you take this as constructive feed back and use it.
JacquesVanN
We went here on half price sushi day. I had to walk to the waiter after 10min of waiting to be serviced. We ordered sushi and she brought plates that were not washed properly, you could still see leftover food. The sushi was extremely average.

Won't be going back
Zoe Hawkins
Great view, great wine, delicious oysters. A bit on the pricey side, but I suppose that is what they can charge tourists who want to see the water and eat oysters.
Marentia Van Kasterop
The Drydock surprised us!

They do not have a lot of vegetarian options but the roulade was great and even enough for two to share.

The chocolate springrolls were also quite good.

The food was well prepared and nicely presented and the service was above average.

Nothing really to complain about here. 😄😄
Chetan Mathur
The place has great view and we liked the food. The four of us ordered pork rubs, Sushi, Malaya lamb curry and Peri peri chicken. The food was good.
Glen Hunt
Stopped in for coffee after a massive drive and great service and good coffee. No real complaints here every thing was fine. I've been here for dinner before and it was good.
Geoff
We waited quite long for a table as it was festive season. We got a very nice table near the water with a great view. 10 mins in we still had not been served so I asked for someone to serve us... Mmmm... The meals were very average poor such high prices. My daughter's prawns were served with poo still in... My wife's fish was tough... Overall a poor experience, over priced with average food. Won't be back.
Tiara Jorissen
Came for the half price sushi special as the other items on the menu are far too overpriced! Sushi was good but the pieces were abit on the small side. For dessert we ordered the vanilla creme brule and a apple strudel type thing. Very tasty but unfortunately very expensive.
Megan Van Dyk
Went here do the all you can eat sushi special. Firstly they couldn't find our reservation & then proceeded to have the worst sushi I have ever eaten in my life. I'm a sushi addict & I left most of it. So so bad. Service was great though & we did have a really great table which were its only redeeming factors.
Leslie Pieters
Stunning views, all 4 meals were excellent especially the baby cob which was the daily catch. Our waiter was knowledgeable and very friendly
Pietie Vermaak
We had the burger special here on a Wednesday afternoon and everything was superb, service, food and view. The chippies that come with the Drydock burger was amazing, very fresh and crispy. We will definitely be back.
Jessica Tuile
The view is about the only thing this place has going for it. Over priced food and small portions. I don't eat a lot and I even left hungry! My partner had beer battered hake and chips. Batter was soggy and the fish was mushy, not flaky at all. I had mussels and calamari combo. Calamari was like rubber and mussels' broth overly salty. Overall a very disappointing dining experience. We left still hungry and bought a pizza on the way home.
Cayo Davids
A great spot for lunch, the view is absolutely breathtaking! The food and service was very impressive! Definitely worth a visit if in the area:)
Jeanette Verster
The only reason to come here would be the view. Overpriced and average food.
Kids chicken nuggets were oily and arrived after the adults food because apparently someone had dropped the plate.
Fish and chips were deemed good.
I had the mussels and calamari, it was good apart from the weird celery in the mussels.
Brutal Pixie
Went for lunch and everything was lovely...the view..spectacular!!!

My partner had oyster to start...he loves them...not for me...he had hake and chips for main and i had the seafood pasta...all was beautiful cooked and presented and tasted sublime.

Definitely will be going back once we move there.
JT
Overpriced food average to poor, over cooked and tasteless, service shocking. Noisy at ground level as wooden floor above. Rather go elsewhere.
Simon Pateman Brown
Peri Peri chicken a bit dry, ribs great roulade was random .. Location is awesome but food average
..........................................
Ritshidze
Da location is amazing but service is slow, had a hake it was dry n the chips were just not up to standard .burger patty was complex.overall the front house were very welcoming and we had very good waitress
Marina
Really disappointed with Catch of the Day for R140. The Yellowtail fish was rock hard, dry and stank so much my son wanted to throw up from the smell. Really not a nice meal.
