Review O Pescador Restaurant - Knysna

DELICIOUS FOOD! We stumbled across this restaurant when the one I had looked for was closed down. I am so glad we did! Friendly polite staff who were attentive. The food was delicious! Some of the best prawns and sardines we've ever had!

I was in that area for a week, eating at different places every day. On a few occasions I ordered a steak and requested it to be done medium. The last steak of the week was at O Pescador and unlike every other restaurant I ate at, it was actually cooked to perfection. The service was great and super friendly. My hyper 18 month old daughter was a bit of a challenge so my wife and I had to take turns taking her to run outside the restaurant. Their staff interacted with her as well making my overall experience at this restaurant one of the best for this week. Keep up the great work team!

What a charming restaurant with a great location and menu. We hadn’t booked, but they went out of their way to make us feel welcome, and even readily agreed to find us an indoor table when they noticed that we were getting cold outside. The food was delicious, and served with the minimum of delay. Slightly pricey, but then cheap is seldom good, and good is not cheap. We will be back there next time we are in Knysna

Lovely food. Great service. If you are by the coast you must have seafood because it just taste different from the city. Our waitress was very friendly. Food is so fresh. I recommend this place.

An absolutely gorgeous meal. We both had fish - sardines to start. The sardines were beautifully moist and not overpowered by the peppers. The kingklip was brilliantly cooked - you could really taste the flavour of the fish. The cob was moist with a lovely flaky texture and crispy crust. The desserts were delicious. The chocolate brownie was decadently rich, the cheesecake was light and creamy. The staff were attentive and the owner/manager was extremely welcoming. The reason for the 4* for service was that our waiter didn't go through the cooking process of the fish or discuss the specials. Thoroughly recommend this restaurant for a lovely meal with a warm ambience.

I had the prawn curry and my friend had chicken curry... we enjoyed the flavours and the freshness of the food,the view, the atmosphere In general. If you want real flavour and good food,this is the place. You won't regret it. Try them and go back again.

Great food, and atmosphere. The Chokka was amazing, as was the Salmon salad. Crayfish small for the price, but overall excellent quality

We had a superb dinner. The Mussels and Trinchado were sublime. My family and I love typical Portuguese food and O Pescador did not disappoint us. It’s a beautifully run family restaurant. Claudette made us feel at home and she accommodated all our needs. If you are looking for a sublime food experience please visit O Pescador in Knysna.

This was my first time at O Pescador. The place was pretty much empty at 3:30 pm. The restaurant is large, with indoor and outdoor seating areas. I ordered sardines as a starter and they were absolutely perfect and delicious. For the main, I ordered the grilled Kinglip, which was Aldo delicious. The service was good and I will definitely return.

The food was good but a bit pricy.

I arrived late and they were happy to serve me which was nice. The waiter was really attentive and authentic. Nice selection on the menu and the sardines for starter and grilled king clip were very tasty. Great value for money.

Food is tasty, the service is amazing. Such a nice family restaurant. If you enjoy Portugese, and you are in the Knysna. Make a plan to dine in this local restaurant.

It was such a good experience. Their seafood is excellent, we enjoyed every bite! The mussels were so amazing. Their spicy sauce was delicious as well, so we purchased a small jar of it. I like how they make the effort to make the food halal-friendly. Also, staff are very nice and acknowledgeable, and they make good recommendations. Thank you!

Wow, I only stopped for lunch. The soup was fabulous and the oysters were chunky. Lordette and her team are very friendly and attentive, and the kitchen staff work fast.

Best prawns I have eaten in a long time. Great Portuguese menu and service. Thanks Lodete for making the evenings at your restaurant very special. Word of warning to book your dinner table way ahead as this restaurant is fully booked most evenings

Absolutely loved loved loved our evening. There are many more popular restaurants in the area, but if you want quality over quantity then do yourself a favour and dine here. They have a simpler menu, but the quality of food is amazing. We had livers and sardines as starter. The kingklip and oxtail is very highly recommended as mains. The staff is very attentive and anticipated our needs without having to ask. We loved every minute and every morsel.

Excellent service, Miles was our very attentive waiter, and the fresh catch was kingklip - so tasty! I would recommend this place for a bite to eat and an excellent view of the Knysna bay at the Quay.

We were walk in customers during the Oyster Festival. We didn't make any reservations beforehand and the restaurant we planned to go eat at was fully booked (as expected of course). We felt like pasta as we wanted to carbo-load for the marathon the next day. When we walked in we asked if they had pasta on the menu. They said no but they were willing to make us something. With our luck a table opened (it was full at the time) and I want to say thank you for going the extra mile for us. The pasta was delicious!! The steak that was added was top class and the waiter was excellent and friendly!! I will definitely come visit again when I come back to Knysna.

Fantastic service by Thando! We visited on friday the 20th April 2018, I had peri-peri chicken livers, Hake with sidesalad and cheese cake and Dad had mussels, Garnad and chocolate mouse and we had coffee after, everything prepared to 5☆ standard. Thank you we will for sure come back and I would recommend it to my guests too... loved it♡�♡�

We had the hake and yellowtail was the best fish dish that tomatoe and onion on the hake was awesome great staff and will be back

O'pescador makes the finest steak in Knysna. Absolutely no doubt about this. We always order the Portuguese steak, wine sauce is delicious. Well done Manny

Absolutely amazing! The food was great and the service even better! Our waiter - Miles, was so attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is so warm and location is stunning and romantic with candle lit dinners. Will definitely be back!

Serendipity is now a Portuguese word! If I'd taken the other staircase to the upper level of Knysna Waterfront, I wouldn't have discovered this wonderful restaurant with authentic "comfort" food (try their extra hot Trinchado with stirfry veg!) and genuine customer service - I'm blown away at how welcome I was made to feel. A true pearl of Knysna. Pérola de Knysna! #péroladeknysna

Food took a while and music was quite slow and dreary. Hence the 4 stars. Friendly staff and good food.

First of two nights in Knysna. Been coming for about 28 years and oddly never noticed a Portuguese restaurant in the waterfront. As a major fan of Tonys (Kloof Street, Cape Town) and LM (Plettenberg Bay) we decided to give this place a go. <br/><br/>When we sat down, it was empty bar a couple of patrons; though they had reserved signs on all the tables across the windows. Our waiter explained to us this was because "it gets very busy so we block off tables so it doesn't get full" - makes sense, specially when it's window seats with a view, right? <br/><br/>The service is not terrible - the waiters do indeed give you attention. But just don't expect expert opinions on wine or fish or anything for that matter. If you send a full plate of food back don't expect to be asked why. <br/><br/>Anyway. I've read many of the other reviews. Not sure what restaurant they went to. The trinchado was basically beef goulash (thin overcooked strips) in a tasteless watery 'sauce' and the calamari starter was so overcooked that even after all the chews into the one piece I ate it still had not crumbled. We decided not to stay for mains given the poor experience with the starters so perhaps their main courses are far superior.<br/><br/>The wine, which they have an award from 2007 as the Best Wine List, was overpriced. The exact same bottle of Ruperts & Rothschild is R60 cheaper at Mario's downstairs. It's the most expensive we've ever paid for that particular bottle - and coming from Cape Town that says a lot.<br/><br/>After sending our calamari back and forcefully eating the Beef Goulash because we were just hungry, I mean trinchado, we sat for about 30 minutes finishing our wine and phoning other restaurants to try sneak a last minute booking. Everyone was full (this was at 18h30) however when we eventually left we managed to sneak into a two seater at Mario's (downstairs) and had an incredible calamari starter, pasta and another bottle of Rupert! <br/><br/>On the upside, the Owner ( I presume) was very apologetic and we had a good chat when I paid the bill. She comped both starters although I think she felt I was unreasonable regarding the trinchado. She also explained the cost of the wine - although her explanation that it comes from Cape Town so there are transport costs, makes little sense when the guy downstairs has it R60 cheaper. She was at least willing to take the critiscm on the chin without getting defensive, apologised profusely and asked we go back again. <br/><br/>Perhaps next year we'll give it another shot. After all, the chips looked absolutely incredible.<br/>

Amazing Chocolate Mousse and Creme Brule. Highly Highly recommend the restaurant for dessert. Pity we couldn't try the dinner options - would like to go back!

Came here one evening I had prawns nacional with side salad and shared grilled prawns and starter calamari .Others had hake and gurnard.Prawns nacional was delicious as so were prawns with calamari.The others really enjoyed there line fish.Service was quite attentive

After dinner all you need is that something sweet so we decided to come here for some dessert. The service is great all so friendly greeting with a smile and seeing that you're satisfied. We had the creme caramel which I found was amazing! And then we had a chocolate mousse - I found it had a bit too much of a strong cocoa taste but other than that it was really good. Need to make it a point to come here for dinner and see what they have to offer

Was on our way to another restaurant and then stopped to look at the menu board outside this restaurant. It looked nice inside too so we decided to go there instead. Sure glad we did. I was in the mood for fish and so they has several line fish specials on, I took the Gurnard. My girlfriend took the grilled calamari. Both dishes were prepared well and the lemon butter sauce they served with it was wonderful too. The waiter was polite and attentive, even the owner came by and recommended the fish. All in all a great experience out!

Friendliest staff that run around non stop for everything. Food was amazing and great spot to watch the sun set. Miles really took care of us and my wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our mains and our dessert. Will be back when we next in knysna.

O Prescador is a place I would visit again. The muscles and trinchado starter was good. The prawns in the special Portuguese sauce was not nice at all. Service was excellent.

Situated at the Knysna Waterfront, this Portuguese restaurant has lovely views of the lagoon. The food was lovely, nothing spectacular but wholesome Peri-Peri chicken and prawns. One of the best restaurants in the area 😄

A pleasant restaurant next to the knysna waterfront. Had a sirloin with a Madagascar pepper sauce and fresh veggies. Was present although the meat was well over done although I asked for rare. I loved the sauce and the wine basting sauce on the steak. Overall a great Portuguese meal.

I found myself alone for one night in Knysna. Knysna has many restaurants but this is one I have wanted to try for a while as I enjoy Portuguese food. I wandered up and found I had a choice of seating as I arrived early in the evening. I opted for a seat in a corner where I could still look out over the marina while also affording me a view of the action in the restaurant. My choice of main was difficult as I enjoy Yellowtail and Trinchado. I opted for Trinchado. I was not disappointed. The service was both prompt and friendly. The food arrived and I found the steak to be done to perfection. I then opted for their Surprise Orange Pancake. What a dessert! All in all I really enjoyed my time here and hope to return one day.

There is a calm, relaxed atmosphere in the restaurant. Food was great, staff competent and friendly. Good value for money in my book. I will most certainly visit them again

The service was excellent and the food superb! A bit pricey per plate, but totally worth the spend. I would definately recommend the spicy prawns.

Food not great but service and management taking your complaint...exelent. ?. Unfortunately will not be back. Ocean basket next door...ps. Trinchado to die for...can't atest to that.
