Review Mr Zeng - Kensington

Food is excellent and staff very pleasant. Pricing is very good for what you get, big servings. A great place to get a quick takeaway, Chinese of course. They need to do something about the parking, very bad design and not enough to cater for the Hotel, Restaurant and the Chinese Restaurant.

The owners are warm and lovely and so is the cashier. I wish it was a bigger spot though. My usual dishes are the Combo and Chicken Chow Faans, my girlfriend usually has the Salmon platter - Absolutely delicious... great place.

Even though it's a tiny little place in the corner of a strip-mall most people would rather avoid, the food is amazing and the people are friendly as long as you are friendly in return. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for cheaper yet good Chinese food.

Lovely sushi at REALLY affordable prices. Their sushi combos and platters are something to try, and staff is always accomodating with substitutions (something not often done at other places). Service is a bit slow, but it is a really small shop. Good take-away.

Decided to give this place a try after seeing the reviews on here. Was majorly underwhelmed. The veggie sushi only had avo and cucumber in - where was some carrot? The nori on the hand roll was wet and had the texture of wet chewing gum couldn't even bite through it - most unappetizing. The deep fried wonton weren't crispy and were a bit burnt as were the sweet and sour prawns. The ribs that my hubby ordered had enough garlic in to slay a vampire kingdom and weren't a full rib rather thin slices. My duck was tough. All in all we won't be returning. Pricing is good but in this instance it was a case of you get what you pay for.

Always always always the best chinese to go for since I was in high school. Went there this past saturday after work and never disappointed at there beef chow mein. The sushi platters are also really good especially with the special they have. Better than the other place I personally believe.

Mr Zeng is a really great place to eat sushi or Chinese dishes. Sushi is well priced and really good. The Chow Mein, Chow Faan and Thai food is really good. Can't go wrong. I've been coming here since it opened and I've never had a problem. The owner and staff is really friendly and pleasant to talk to.

Kensington is all about hidden gems and this is one of them. Tucked away in (a not so great looking) mini-plaza Mr Zengs is about as authentic is going to get (appearance wise). walk in and you're greeted by friendly staff, a typically plentiful menu and prices that are reasonable. I ordered the chicken chow mein and was pleasantly surprised by the noddle to chicken ratio - they do not skimp on the good stuff! A return-worth establishment and by far the best Chinese I've tried in the areas thus far. Be prepared to wait a little longer than average, but it is worth it.

This is the best Chinese take away! Friendly service and food that's delicious! One of my faves for sure!!!! Anyone looking for authentic flavours made with love this is the place to be!!

Used to go to Mr Zeng every tuesday for 50% off sushi and today suddenly it isn't any more?<br/>Very upset because the sushi is so good for such a good special and now it's no more👎

What the heck has happened, mr zeng? Everything on the menu used to be great and now it's terrible! Had the worst sushi ever the other night - tuna sashimi seemed like imitation and prawn tempura was cold. The whole plate was sloppily presented and we ended up throwing most of it away. Really vile, blegh.

I really used to love Mr Zeng, but I have been really disappointed the last two visits. Tonight I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and it was neon pink. It was extremely syrupy and not enjoyable. Really disappointed as I have always enjoyed this establishment but lately some of the dishes aren't that great

I don't know if the others that ate here got there on a bad day or I got there on a good day but it was honestly some of the best sushi that I have ever had!<br/><br/>This is going to be my new usual for sushi!<br/>Especially on half priced Tuesdays...<br/><br/>I got:<br/><br/>4 salmon california rolls<br/>8 tuna rainbow rolls<br/>8 salmon fashion sandwiches<br/>2 spicy tuna handrolls<br/>4 tuna tofu nigiri<br/><br/>For R126!<br/><br/>And between the amazing presentation, the care that went into packaging (like the soya sauce coming in a plastic container in a plastic bag to avoid spilling) and the tofu nigiri being packaged separately. It was brilliant!<br/><br/>Pros:<br/>*The fashion sandwiches are a definite must have! Not too much rice and the nori was still crisp<br/>*The tofu nigiri was generous and sweet and perfect<br/>*The spicy handroll was hot!!! New review:<br/>Revisited Mr Zeng on Saturday evening. ordered the following for take-away:<br/>- California rolls: salmon, deep fried prawn, smoked salmon<br/>- Rainbow Roll: salmon, mango<br/>- Fashion Sandwich: prawn, smoked salmon with cheese<br/>- Salmon roses<br/>- Salmon sashimi<br/>- Dragon roll<br/><br/>Since there was only one chef available, the cooking took quite long. The overall quality has improved, the sashimi pieces are now much bigger, but the salmon quality is still rather bland.<br/><br/>I advise the venue if you're in the mood for some cheap sushi take-away, but definitely not for a restaurant type meal.<br/><br/>Old review:Ordered take-away tonight, since Tuesday it's 50% off for sushi. The pricing is fantastic, with 8 salmon/tuna/etc maki coming at just R14!<br/><br/>Unfortunately, you get what you pay for, the food tasted bland, as if it had been sitting in the fridge for a few hours. I wasn't impressed at all by the makis, the prawn california rolls I ordered were tasteless as well, while the salmon roses were very thin on the salmon.
