Review Topeka Spur Steak Ranch - Kenilworth

16 Nov 2019 - Get here early on Saturday, enjoyed the breakfast off menu.....the buffet is good but i preferred the Ranch Breakfast, filter coffee is good...really enjoyed it 6 Nov 2024 - back for another visit to Cape Town from Sydney..... Breakfast was great, seems they have done away with the buffet part 😪

Excellent service! Great anticipation of my and my kids needs. Child friendly, family oriented and clean. They're getting a four star rating for the food, because our order took quite long and we got served the wrong order at first. For the service, they gave sharp knives to the kids and not enough glasses. Otherwise overall still a good experience.

My Wife, Son and I had an amazing experience at this restaurant. Outstanding service from our waitress Theresa and the manager Imtiaz. They go out if their way to make it a special experience without being asked to do so, they're very friendly and kind. The food was also delicious. I will surely revisit as it's super awesome to have ones family be treated kindly. 10/10 for service.

I highly recommend for everyone specially families with children because of the play area, great food, nicely assisted by everyone from staff crew, specially Rabia and Lameez. The kids love the play area and coloring the paper drawings.

Wow wow wow , I’m not sure where to begin. Firstly we were a table of 30 people and our waiter Tyson got each & every single order correct from the food till the drinks . He was extremely helpful and hands on , our food was served with a smile, each meal. He is great at what he does and I will definitely be visiting that spur branch again because of him - he did the job effortlessly , amazing service he is an asset to the business for sure !

Honestly the best Spur I have ever been to. I am so impressed with the safety of the play area. The child minder there really does her job well, and the children are made to wear arm bands with the parents’ details which is just fantastic! I wish all Spur branches would take the safety of children this seriously. Our waitress was so helpful and friendly, and the bathrooms are spectacular!

The restaurant is big with family size tables. The staff was attentive and pleasant. On a sunny day the seats next to the windows get too hot. We asked to be moved to a shaded area. Might be a good idea for the store get some blinds on that side of the windows. They have a cool play area however it had a very bad smell to it. It could do with a refresher or a deep clean and have some aircon in the area. The food was ok I ordered the chicken and tbone steak. The chicken was succulant and tasty. The steak was tuff and not great tasting which was a bit dissappointing. The kids size ribs look good and the nachos was ok. The guava shake was delish!

Such a friendly atmosphere. And the manager and staff are very welcoming, which adds to the ambiance and really made a difference. Lovely food as always, although the guacamole could be more generous for the Quasadilla.

Overall very happy. As adults with n children the dancing and singing sometimes is a bit too often in 1 sitting... but we realize it's a family restaurant.

Best waffles! Yum! Our waitress Lusanda had such an infectiously fun vibe and was very helpful with making sure I got points on my family card even though I didn't have it with me. Always been my favorite Spur though. Used to be our frequent Monday spot but this time just popped by for waffles and ice cream.

After being away for a very long time I was pleasantly satisfied today! I loved my chicken schnitzel and the Brownie was delicious! Service was friendly, fast and efficient! Smiles all around and good food! Thanks Topeka Spur!

Been to a few Spur's, can honestly say best experience. 1 of a few halaal spurs, and drive was worth it, as I'm from Northern suburbs. Was my daughter birthday, so we took family out for lunch The hospitality, and how quick our food was brought to our table was amazing, less than 15 mins from taking our order to having it on our table A big shukran to Rabia, she made sure everything went smoothly, and there was, no issues. A big thank you to all at Topeka Spur for making our visit so warm felt, and giving us such a nice experience Defs seeing you soon again Regards Younis Ramadien

So last night on Sunday 29/10/17 we visited this spur for the first time boy were we disappointed. Upon arriving there was no one at the door to welcome us after a few minutes one of the managers saw us didn't even greet just asked us table for? So we get seated close to the play area as I asked so for now we seem ok. After about 10mins the waiter comes (Axel) doesn't introduce himself or nothing. Doesn't even ask what we would like he just stared at us for us to tell him what we want. So we order the starters and the kids meal for my son, he leaves and we sit and wait. So after about 10-15 minutes not sure about how long as myself and my partner were chatting the waiter comes with our starter and kiddies meal by then we have ordered our main meals. The starter was so small the mushrooms were tiny and the calamari was so chewy I thought I was chewing rubber. Anyway so we call my son from the play area to come eat he ordered a milkshake with his meal but wow the milkshake wasn't even ice cream it was all foam and my son is not a milkshake person but he felt like having one. So we sent that back and go him a coke rather eventually our main meals come and myself and my partner always shares our meals.l, so we have the ribs and buffalo wing combo first, the ribs were smothered in basting sauce that was so overpowering all I was eating was sauce, we asked for the buffalo wings to be texan fried it tasted like nothing. Now here comes the good part so we had the second part of the main meal which was our double texan fried burger which we were also going to share, during this time the manager Lee who seated us walks by but doesn't even stop to ask how's the food or if we ok,for so I start on mine first and realise it's not texan fried either I eat of the chips in-between which are now so dry not even the sauce is helping the onions are raw, so with my second fork of food I now discover the bun(roll) my burger is on is old and I have chunks of lettuce hard and white lettuce under an over cooked chicken fillet , so now I'm done eating and utterly disgusted that a spur restaurant would serve me old food. So I call one of the managers Portia she comes hears our story apologies and takes the food away. We asked for the bill, it came we paid and then left. Whenever we go to any spur we always send two hours plus. This time we only spent an hour. Really really disappointed as what I experienced was not spur quality at all and we came from being at the cable cars the whole we were hungry only to leave the restaurant nauseated and when I got home I was actually sick. I would not recommend this spur to anyone and I definitely would not be going there again

We were a party of 12 last night. We waited long for our food to come which was to be expected as it was a tall order but by the time it came I still waited for mine. Eventually after my husband enquired it came. I ordered a surf and turf. Needless to say my plate was warm but my food was COLD and no tarter sauce. My husband's big bear combo was also cold. We have been to practically every halal Spur available and this one is by far the worst. I am even still waiting for my sms regarding the voucher top up (it normally get this sms within an hour of paying the bill). I will NOT recommend Topeka Spur to any of my family and friends. Very disappointing!!!

Went for breakfast at Topeka spur this morning .breakfast fine but the coffee that came with it was horrendous.so much for a free coffee with your meal .Did mention it to the waiter but did nothing about it.

Service was very poor as to the seating dirty even the place mats... It's very hot inside too manager came with lam excuse as to why there's no aircon or ventilation to the place ��

I enjoyed the time spent with my family thou but the waiter Amanda were not very pleasant at all. Firstly, she did not introduce herself (maybe because they have personalized t/shirts but nonetheless.... I think it's important that they do. I understand that maybe she must have been exhausted but at least put a fake smile on. She was not friendly at all, very off putting. The wait for the food was a bit long but it was all worth it in the end. Just a pity she didn't play her part...

Me an hubby went for breakfast yesterday had the most lovely waitress can't remember her name thou lol � she was constantly checking up on us our coffee came with in 2mins of ordering and our breakfast followed jus after she topped our coffee up as soon as cups were empty i must say i really enjoyed myself

Last night myself and my cousin went to celebrate my belated birthday supper and we had the Texan burger, but during midnight we had terrible stomach cramps and runny tummies. I am every dissatisfied and disappointed in Topeka Spur! We never experienced anything like that before as we always visit Topeka Spur.

Our food was delicious yummy soft tender succulent as requested and a awesome waiter and asdist my daughter with her 2yr old whilst she can enjoy her meal.... �

Ordered a calamari & crumbed mushroom combo...paid R75 for 9 mushrooms & 13/14 calamari pieces. This, plus the fact that my food was cold on arrival, did not make me like your Spur very much.

Was standing there for a few mins staff just walk pass you...wen u ask for a table they say no tables available but place is empty

So disappointing.I came to Topeka spur for the first time on Thursday 15 December 2016.On arrival i asked for table for 2.The hostess asked another staff member and she said Alia can sort it out.I am not an it and all we needed was a table for 2.Anyway after we were seated we were ignored for about 20 minutes then given menus.I wanted to order the Thursday special which is buy 3 steaks and pay for 2.Our waiter kindly informed us that we have to be 3 people to qualify for the special.(It does say this in small print on the menu).I asked why and he could not answer me.I then commented that on a Monday to buy the burger special,u do not need to be 2 people.So please can i have an explanation?

Friday night , 24th of August.Ill start off by saying how great the service was and the waiter even put on the rugby for us.I had the cheddamelt steak which was very disspointing , the steak was still raw and chips compared to my partners chips my chips was very little , my strawberry milkshake was warm for some reason which did not make sense at all i do not like to complain and just left but i felt i needed to bring it to your attention . However my partners burger was cooked deliciously and he really enjoyed it.

Great atmosphere ans friendly staff. Food always great and kids have a ball in the play area. good for family visits and get togethers. Will definitely be going many more times

Terrible Service. Ordered a burger and a toasted sandwich. Toasted sandwich arrived 15minutes after the burger with no explanation or apology from the waiter. Spur staff were seated a table away joking around right - nothing against taking a break bit it shouldn't disrupt your customers experience. No manager checked on us. Really disappointing service over all.

This was the best spur meal I’ve had. My steak was perfectly medium rare, I got extra cheese, I waiter Lulu was really sweet! Will definitely make the mission to kenilworth spur when the cravings start.

I recently tried this branch. It's really close and I'm glad they've recently become halal. It's convenient. The manager as I recall is very helpful. It's worth a visit

Went to lunch with my family this afternoon. My sister and I had the cheddarmelt sirloin steaks with chips and onion rings, mom had fillet steak with side veg and dad had hake and calamari with side veg. Very surprised that Spurs seafood was actually really good - fish was cooked well and calamari was nice and light with a crispy batter. I was a bit disappointed with my steak as I asked for medium but it was actually more on the well done side. My mom and sisters steaks were well cooked though and they enjoyed them. The sides of veg and chips and onion rings were good. However, Spurs food does tend to get cold very quickly so next time I'd consider taking the hot plate option instead of the normal plate. Our waiter was polite and professional. Special shoutout to him also because we forgot our takeaway and he rushed out to bring it to us!<br/><br/>Edit 30/06/2017: Had to update this review because I was really impressed with dinner tonight. They started a carvery on Fridays now too and have tons of delicious options to choose from. My sister and I also tried the new cheddarmelt fillet steaks and they were cooked to medium perfection. Our waiter (Bafana) was really great - so friendly and attentive and made us feel at ease immediately. We went this evening for dinner and so service was fairly quick because we went before the 7pm dinner rush.

Went to this Spur last night to break my fast with a few friends and we had an average experience at best. <br/>When we arrived, we were given dates to break our fast which was a nice touch. <br/>I ordered the chicken schnitzel with cheese sauce, chips and onion rings. <br/>My friend ordered the grilled chicken burger with chips and onion rings. <br/>My other friend ordered the grilled chicken wrap with chips. <br/>Lastly, my other friend ordered the Texan-fried chicken burger with chips only. <br/><br/>Our food was served timeously but when our meals arrived they were all lukewarm. The portions of sides were inconsistent and all of us agreed that our food was quite tasteless... very disappointing after a long day of fasting. <br/>The service, however, was quite good. <br/><br/>This is the second time I've experienced luke warm, flavourless food at this particular Spur, and the only reason I returned tonight is because it's halaal. Despite how convenient it is - close to home, ample parking by entrance 1 (upper level) - I don't think I'll be returning to this branch anytime soon.

New halaal spur had to give it a try. Why do we order the crumbed mushrooms again? Its rather tasteless might as well just have the sauce. Had the jalapeno burger with cheese sauce. Cheese sauce was delicious. Burger patti was unfortunately burnt on the sides. Gave a very bitter taste. Service was efficient and friendly.<br/><br/>Spur , you have vindicated yourself. Went here with a friend on a Monday night to try out the Monday special as I hadn't been to spur in a while and special was recommended to me.Service was a huge step up from some of the other Spurs I've been to and I was happy and comfortable waiting for my order.got one soy burger and one spur burger, didn't wait long for the food and tasted pretty good.

Ordered takeaway burgers from spur after not having it in a while. I had the goodie burger and I found that the patty was terribly overcooked and tough - not as good as I remember. The chips were decent though.

The service was good for a full Sunday morning at Spur. We didn't wait long for our food and the food was still hot and tasted good. The portions were fairly decent too. The full house breakfast (or whatever it's called) really fills your belly if you're super hungry. Definitely a good choice!

Sitting at this spur now, ordered a spur burger and baked potato. They forgot the baked potato, food was below luke warm. Fork was dirty, not a pleasant experience this time around.

Woah! Best halaal spur in Cape Town! Was so pleasantly surprised by the amazing service and food! It's hard to find quality halaal restaurants these days but the new revamped spur in Kenilworth centre blew me away. I will definitely be back! From the friendly greeting to the generous portion of chips and onion rings that came along with my steak just made me really happy. Keep up the great work team and hope to be back soon with the rest of my family

My 2nd visit since they converted to being fully halaal. First was 'ok'.....this time was terrible. It was a late afternoon Sunday. Hostess who walked us in clearly was not in the mood for working on a Sunday........I do empathize with her and other service staff in general but it doesn't have to be so obvious to your customers. Kiddies shared a cheddamelt steak which I had to send back as the cheese was not melted. I expected a saucy consistency cheese over the steak. I returned it and the cheese still hadn't melted when they brought it back. Clearly just a thin pre packed slice of processed cheese.....those are notoriously difficult to melt...cutting corners I would say. As for my wife's Crumbed chicken burger......it was raw inside.....not undercooked.....but a fairly sizeable portion still completely raw.......seems like they pulled it out the freezer, raw and pre-crumbed then slapped it on the grill for a few seconds.....it was horrible. The manager Sabelo returned with a replacement and was very apologetic. Gave the kiddies some free waffles and ice cream. The waiter Silimela was friendly and on point throughout.

Went there for breakfast and there was a waiting list! Anyway, we decided to stay as we've never had breakfast at spur. They seated us after about 5 mins. Service was good. Food was okay. The breakfast menu is rather limited. I really wanted poached eggs. Anyway, the experience was OK.

Tried out the brand new Spur in Kenilworth. Noisy environment typical of Spur. The onions were soggy but our waiter replaced it quickly with 2 crispy portions of onions. The overall portion of the burgers were big. However, the crumbed chicken had an off, not fresh taste, almost fishy. Good waiter, friendly fast service despite it being busy with the Monday special. My brothers had The Texan burger and it was apparently good.

Great breakfast with excellent service despite being full house. Plenty of waitrons to give you that personal touch. Well done. .............

Had to meet a friend at Kenilworth centre and whilst catching up decided to grab some breakfast. There's not too many options in the mall and landed up at Topeka spur. I like the fact that you can build your own breakfast and decided on their eggs, sauteed mushrooms and peri-peri chicken livers. One of the few places that still offers bottomless coffee👌. This is one of the better Spurs around and service was top-notch.

Nothing like some Spur takeaways for din din. This branch's fair is pretty decent. Had the sharing platter with mushrooms, calamari and buffalo wings and some sides. Topped off with a bar-one milkshake.

Always receive good service when we go to the Kenilworth spur for breakfast. Food is good (as good as a spur can be) and never had any major issues.This particular spur is our go to place when we have our nephews as the play area has recently had a revamp. never attempt to go to this spur month end for breakfast as you will be standing a line to be seated.

Because I have a 9 year old I frequent family friendly restaurants like Spur frequently. Yesterday we popped in at the one in Kenilworth Centre. I arrived at 16:45 we had to wait a few minutes to be seated (restaurant was not full) after being seated we were only attended to 15 minutes later. I ordered drinks for myself and my daughter which tool another 15 minutes to arrive. I have come to not expect quality food from any Spur so I won't even comment on that. The service at this particular Spur is horrific though. I even snapped a video of 2 ladies who were standing at the entrance waiting to be seated and after receiving no service just walked away.
