Review Twigs With Beans - Kenilworth

Andrew Fletcher Cole
Fantastic coffee and solid wifi on offer. Also juices and Ok fare on sale. Reconfigured and under new ownership, it remains a popular place for locals to work, meet and hang out.

Had a lovely lunch break here. Great service, food and coffee :)

Lovely atmosphere, with only a few tables inside and outside, so even when it's busy, the noise doesn't overwhelm you. They have great coffee and breakfasts, and very friendly staff. Great if you're looking for a quiet place to work, as they have free Wifi.

Very laidback atmosphere and relaxed garden environment outside. Good coffee with milk substitutes. Haven't eaten anything off the menu before but would love some vegan options on the menu as there is only one and its vegetarian if I'm not mistaken.

Twigs continues to pump out the best coffee in the southern suburbs. Such a peaceful place with great service.
Rushay Booysen
Lovely vibes feels like a personal home space. They just need to add wi fi

Such a pleasant surprise! It looks like one of the more popular joints for morning "e-commuter" users - free WiFi and decent coffee and breakfast! There are options of indoor or outdoor seating, with the outdoor varying from on the "stoep" to around the corner in the garden. Unfortunately, and I believe illegally, the outdoor garden area is occupied by smokers. I have nothing against people who are smokers, but I have a lot against people who are smoking. It's unfair and unfortunate that the non-smokers are prevented from enjoying the garden environment because of the patrons who are smoking. That's why I've docked one star. Why is there no dedicated smoking area - everyone can enjoy the pristine garden area and if there's an urge or need to smoke, pop into the smoking room, get your habit done, then come back out. Nonetheless, it's a lovely place with great food at a reasonable price - the coffee I had was great too and it was fairly busy early in the morning but not uncomfortable.

I've been there on two occasions. And both times the service was great and the food delicious. Both breakfasts were beautifully presented. Can't wait to go back

Thoroughly enjoyed the food and the service.. Their smoothies are authentic and amazing and the service was friendly and great. They probably need one more waiter on busy days but they were great

Still the best coffee in Kenilworth Claremont. New owners Gary and Elsa have injected new energy together with new crockery and improved the service. Please request they provide a daily newspaper for patrons who like to read the printed word whilst enjoying their good food.
Nick James
Fantastic little coffee shop with lovely out door seating and blitz fast internet. The team are super friendly and happy to help as much as they can. New favourite spot in Kenilworth.

Coffee with almond milk was good. Orange juice was very good (freshly squeezed). Waiter kept forgetting about me because I was sitting outside.
Caroline Konstant
Now under excellent new management. Good coffee, delicious light meals and cakes. Vegan and vegetarian options. Pleasant outside seating.

Best coffee in Harfield Village - start every day with a Twiggs Coffee. Oh and try their Avo Stack special, add streaky bacon. Thank me later. Go check them out if you're in the area and on 2nd Avenue, next door to Sakura.

Great spot for a good coffee. Simple meals including toasted sarmies and salads. A cosy neighbourhood hangout. Yes, they have WiFi.

Excellent healthy food and a lovely garden. I enjoyed by meal and the staff were awesome. Given a very difficult customer (me)

Waited nearly 30 minutes for someone to come and take our order after I had to fetch the menu myself..... we ended up leaving as clearly the staff on duty don't understand the concept of restaurant customer service.

Breakfast is fantastic and recommend the freshly squeezed fruit juice combinations. Quaint and pleasant atmosphere.

Cute little cafe with friendly staff and a great manager👌🏽. My husband devoured his pulled pork sandwich 😄Keep it up guys!
Sarah Larratt
The best breakfasts and great value, their coffee is amazing. We will definitely try out their dinner menu!

The Thursday and Friday supper menu is superb! I went there with friends last night and we all enjoyed (and devoured) our meals. The open chicken lasagne with butternut and camberbet was the best thing I've had in a while (and if was plated beautifully). Will definitely return.

What a lovely, friendly and intimate spot.

I love this little gem...service is always with a smile and the food is superb

Lovely people and great food what else do you want.

Great spot for breakfast and the coffee is awesome!

Waited 30 minutes for, what I ordered was a Mocha and a Latte... got a glass of milk and a Latte. Please tell your servers if they are unsure of what the customer said to confirm. Also, waited another 30 mins for breakfast to arrive. So got there at 11, left at almost 1pm. Not cool.

New menu is absolutely great. Affordable and just delicious

Great service, great affordable nosh, FREE wifi as well as FREE sweets with the account (albeit a bit limited). Was one of the 1st places that welcomed me to Cape Town. You have been marked and I will be back!

Friendly atmosphere, great coffee & food & a lovely rustic decor that suits the avenue! A must visit!

Stopped by here rather spontaneously for a meeting and found this place to be a quaint and cosy café. Despite the downsides of slow service and having to flag down a waiter, they make a decent coffee.

Cute little cafe with fresh and delicious food. Very friendly and polite staff. I had the half portion English breakfast which was yummy and filling. I especially enjoyed the tomato soaked and grilled in balsamic vinegar so tasty! A lovely little spot for a breakfast date or a quick lunch.

Twigs With Beans is a fantastic little spot in the heart of Claremont, perfect for a Saturday morning coffee excursion!

I tried their Caramel Latte as well as a Single Espresso, and the Bacon & Eggs brekkie - the coffee is good quality, the food was delicious, and the staff are very friendly.

It's a little tricky to find parking in the area, and the cafe seems to get pretty busy. However, in addition to inside tables, they have outdoor seating which is perfect for a summery day.

Tiny little place tucked away in the middle of second avenue. A couple of tables outside and a handful of tables inside. Reasonably priced menu and the coffee is half decent. We had their brownie and a piece of shortbread. The brownie was lovely, chocolaty and soft. The shortbread wasn't great, crumbly and dry covered in icing sugar. The wait staff are nice, not always ontop of everything but pleasant and polite.

Simple and homely spot in Kenilworth. They have fast wifi which makes it great for working if you're a student and don't want to work from home or campus. They make amazing coffee too to keep you going for a few solid hours.

I have to give this such a bad rating because I'm sick of service like this in Cape Town. The food and coffee is incredible, but the last 3 visits I've had to go to the counter to place my order after sitting one/ two tables away from the staff for 15 minutes with no one doing anything. There is literally zero service. Either employ a waiter/waitress or let people know it is self service

A cute, quiet little cafe that was the perfect spot for breakfast on a gloomy Monday morning. I had a hazelnut latte and my friend the vanilla, the mugs are massive and it was so delicious. We both had the plain old bacon and eggs. My friend had hers on a croissant and it looked so good, I had a little food envy. A small menu, but plenty of top up options to choose from.

The place itself is cute and the menu is decently priced. But the service was not good at all, and the food was not cooked properly. But in all honesty, the staff were the biggest issue, it just felt like they had no training, didn't look at you when they spoke to you... Overall not the best experience.

Where to start. We arrived and it took 10 min for us to receive menus. When ordering i specifically asked for only the croissant to be toasted and cheese on the side, my friend ordered the carrot cake. The croissant was brought 10 min later with the cheese in the middle instead of as a side (but we were so hungry we just ate it anyway). The cheesecake wasn't brought at the same time. My friend went up to ask for it and was told "it's on its way", at that time we also ordered two lattes. 10 min later the cake slice (which was just sitting on the counter) still wasn't brought. A further 15 min later we decided to leave when we saw walk in customers get their lattes before us while we had been waiting close to 30min. Utterly disappointing

Such a cute little spot on 2nd Ave. I only stopped for a takeaway flat white, but the vibe inside is comfy and casual with a mix of chairs and couches. There was a display of a few treats, with the croissants looking appealing :)
They serve Tribe coffee and it was delicious! Reasonable prices too.
The barista and other staff were really friendly too, would def pop in again.

Exploration of 2nd Ave continues... this casual, rustic place fits in perfectly in the area and is clearly popular with the locals. Popped in for brunch on a Wednesday and joined the 4 other singles working on tablets and computers! The atmosphere was quiet and relaxing and the service was great. The large(?massive) cappuccino was hot and tasty with great presentation! I ordered one of the open sandwich specials from the chalk board: "Bacon, chicken and curry mayo" I was not offered a choice of bread but got rye which I enjoyed. The chicken portion was generous and quite spicy (fiery hot!) and the flavours were still enhanced by extra black pepper. The rest of the menu looks interesting but the coffee stains on the one I received was disappointing (unacceptable?). Overall a pleasant experience, very reasonably priced and a spot to remember and return to!

This wonderful restaurant offers coffee with a smile (plus red cappuccinos - always a bonus as not every coffee shop offers them) their new menu is fantastic! I love their Avo stack with poached eggs - perfect for Banting 👍🏼👍🏼 their new Apple crumble is pure decadence. They also offer free wifi (double bonus) this is a coffee shop that isn't too fancy but offers brilliant coffee and tasty food! You really don't need anything else

Lovely little space to have breakfast or lunch meetings or just get a little work done by yourself. Friendly staff and fresh food. The coffee was lovely and I like how secluded it is. It's a little cafe gem.

We went on 12-March for breakfast at Twigs With Beans. Really good cuppucino. I had the French toast with bacon - delicious. Hubby had the Full Twig - a very generous portion of mushrooms - good poached egg and yummy bacon. Rustic restaurant with a lovely relaxed vibe - free WiFi but we didn't use it. Negatives - for some reason there were a lot of flies and it wasn't a particularly hot morning - this was annoying - management sd sort this out - flies are a health hazard.

Very cute little spot in Harfield Village. We had the French toast and Eggs Benny - both were great and generous portions. Service is a little slow but if you're in no rush then enjoy the lazy Sunday vibes and order another delicious Tribe coffee!

Lip-smacking Eggs Benedict this morning. Best one I've eaten. Cooked to perfection and incredibly yummy. Staff are very attentive and welcoming.

The less said about the food the better. Ordered soft poached eggs and they were hard. Might as well have asked for boiled eggs. Service was awful. Waited 40 minutes for food.
Seems like you should get take away coffee here. But don't do breakfast. The rocket on my plate was good though
BT
Terrible service, curdled hollandaise sauce, soggy ciabatta and cold poached eggs. Will suggest people to try the other places along 2nd Avenue

Came across this little gem on my way to work this morning. Its so cute and quint. Tried a take away Flat White and it was absolutely delicious. I usually get my morning coffee at Vida, but I will definitely be coming back here...probably every morning. ;)
Garth
Cosy little coffee shop with great tasting coffee ( they make a mean flat white), the food is fantastic and really friendly staff. Definitely coming back soon
Christa Van Eeden
Rustic little coffee shop that serves excellent coffee with a smile. Simple yet excellent breakfasts on offer. Lovely homey fare. Well worth the visit.

The coffee here is excellent. The food offering is quite limited, but this isn't a cafe - it's a coffee shop. The staff are super friendly and helpful
James
This is one of those places where you go damn, what a pity the service is crap and it is so dirty. Seems the owner, who is very unfriendly and the staff have issues which show clearly. Trying to get the attention of a staff member is a challenge and then they (or the owner) serve you as if you are from another planet and providing them with some great inconvenience.

Their are a few pros and more cons to the place.

The set up is nice and airy and they have the rustic thing going. Rustic is good, dirty, however is not so good. The music is good, the food is not bad and decently priced but very very limited and then mostly to artery clogging bacon and eggs and breads. Some variety would be good. They have what looks like healthy freshly made fruit and veg juice. However, served warm and simple thing like sticking ice in the smoothie maker machine is over looked.

Then they have free wifi which is a big plus and decent coffee which does make it a good place for freelancers etc to work from and does seem to attract a few.
