Review Piece A Pizza - Kempton Park

Theo Egbers
The thrill of leaving for a holiday starts at Diner with their friendly staff, amazing food and all sorts of sweets and chocolates you can buy as gifts for family and friends overseas. Our food was tasty and the service was acceptable. All in all, a great experience (and at least we were too full to have the airline food)

Mind blowing pizza at piece a pizza. Look at the detailed toppings meld on the bread.... the taste is breathe taking, it’s worth the try. Your next flight out to OR Tambo, don’t forget to make your first stop at Piece a Pizza I really enjoyed it today - Thanks guys Keep up the good work

Wow talk about a BIG burger! This place was lovely spent a couple hours there waiting for our flight. The waitress was fab, very helpful and she’s the one who helped us find the place. Very good prices especially for an airport. I’d definitely recommend

Had a lovely almond milk cappuccino and breakfast whilst waiting for my flight to Durban. Great service, delish food and value for money.

This restaurant by name "Diner" was a good experience for me. The grill fish and Pizza were nice and good. Sitting here made us feel like sitting in a Lounge. Seats were comfortable and not crowded.

Best Pizza at the airport. Lovely place to relax before a flight.

The best waffle I have ever had, with delicious, handmade ice cream. Great service, beautiful decor, divine food. Great way to kill some time at the airport!

I can't reconcile the success of my visit with the other reviews, as I was really pleasantly surprised by the food. We ordered 3 pizzas, and all of them were great. Thin crispy bases with plenty of toppings. Prices were very reasonable at about R80 a pizza given that this is airport food. I've been to many fancy pizza restaurants where the food wasn't this good. Tables and environment leave a little to be desired, as you are sat next to an escalator or busy thoroughfare... But it's an airport so has to be pretty much expected.

I always ate here for the pepperoni special and honestly made so many others fall in love with it until I ordered one yesterday and could count 7 pieces of thinnly sliced small pepperoni on the pizza which I am paying R100, you should rather call it a chips special pizza because that is literally what was on this large pizza. Highly disappointed and will rather go else where for value for money in the airport.
Rigard & Jeanine
Ideal stop for a quick bite before having to depart. Offers a range of healthy juices and eats in addition to the normal offerings. A wide selection of ice creams and a range of freshly baked muffins as well. Service levels acceptable.

Avoid at all costs... Nothing in stock. Not even basic things like serviettes... No cold drinks. A bad first experience and will be the last...
So disorganised, management and staff have no clue what's going on. No idea what's in stock, with many items listed but not available. Would avoid if you don't want the stress before a flight.

This place is operating ILLEGALLY. Their smoking section has a door that is open constantly despite my complaints that we were breathing in smoke from half way across the restaurant. I complained to the manager that we were breathing in smoke who went to close the door, but 5 minutes later it was open again.

It’s now ILLEGAL to have smoke wafting into the non-smoking section of the restaurant.

The food wasn’t great either, and the coffees took ages to arrive.

One of the best Pizzas I’ve eaten. Good service as well. 3 stars given because they charge for fresh chilli, which is the first place I’ve ever been charged for what is effectively a condiment. Good pizza doesn’t trump being ripped off so I won’t be back.

Overpriced for what you get. Ordered a salami and cheese panini and it was clearly ham. Told the manager and they were not helpful at all. Terribly slow service. Don't waste your time.

Service was very friendly @11pm. Food took a bit long as we were in a bit of a hurry. There were some crumbs on the chair. Food was tasty and well presented.
Jenny Lightfoot
Filthy place, unfriendly staff. Did not even get to order. We asked the waiter to wipe a dirty chair and the table. She wiped the chair with a dirty rag, ignored the table and plonked some overly used menus in front of us, then disappeared. Obviously we chose to leave

waited ages for a vegetarian pizza slice and when it eventually came the veggies on the pizza were off (That horrible "sour" off taste). Won't be going back there ever.

The service was atrocious given that one waiter has to service all the tables which resulted in our meals arriving late and to and fro service. Extremely expensive. Food however was good
Arrived at 06h30, got seated.
1. Table was not clean.
2. Got up 15 minutes later to ask to be served.
3. Waiter's attitude was shocking to say the least.
4. Table was still not clean after first attempt by the same waiter.
5. Waiter left menu without at least offering a cup of coffee (06h45).
6. First cup of coffee served at 06h57.
7. Still waiting for breakfast.

Never again.

Omellette with breakfast beef - They omelette was lovely & the filling very delicious! I really enjoyed this meal, especially since I was extremely hungry after landing at OR Tambo. The service I experienced was great, but the food just took a bit longer than expected.

Stopped for coffees and focaccia's while dropping someone off. The staff were quick to call us in for a seat which seemed promising, but we were ultimately disappointed. It took very long to receive both our drinks and food and our waitress was very distracted while serving us- yelling to a colleague while orders were being given and looking generally impatient. The coffees and juice was good, although the one focaccia was very dry and the other was oily. Wouldn't return or recommend.

This lounge is surprisingly good for an airport restaurant. I find them typically not good because of the fluctuating clientele. The tea was hot and the muffins fresh. Staff is very friendly and responsive. Lighting and seating are comfortable and it is well positioned between the shopping area and the departure lounges in OR Thambo Airport.

Nice little halal certified place after check in at the airport. I was so hungry and desperately looking for something to eat and I choose Mexicana pizza and BBQ chicken. The Mexicana was nice but didn't care for the BBQ chicken. Would come back for the brownies.

Had today for breakfast New York version of eggs , beans, steak & sausage. It was an ok food, didn't Like personally the idea of steak on breakfast & it was little bit chewy. Wouldn't recommend if you are visiting South Africa.

Was a little hesitant to give these guys a try, but was pleasantly surprised. Had the steak Prego and it was actually very good. Roll was fresh, steak was soft and the sauce did not overpower the steak. Coffee milkshake was delicious. Good job guys.

Nice quick tasty dessert.
Good service with very friendly waiters.
I just suggest they start selling alcohol too, I was forced to have a milkshake which was tasty though.

If we not catching flights we're catching a bite to eat. As an alternative to sitting down at Cappellos to dine, Piece a Pizza is perfect for when we're short on time or opt for something lighter before a flight. Their sarmies and pizzas are all really nice.... the service was always a little slow but the food makes up for it. Haven't tried many menu options but so far everything I've ordered has been a good choice.

Don't go here. Service is ridiculously slow , coffee arrives with a wooden stick to stir it like you're a prison inmate; most of the things on the menu are not available because of machines being broken. To attract wait staff, be prepared to stand and wave your arms like you're guiding one of the planes in to land. Excellent if you are here to interview for that position but otherwise quite irritating.

One at International gates not open at 5 which means I have to forego my coffee before a very early morning flight ... very disappointed... shouldnt be my problem if staff do not arrive on time!

Terrible food, completely over priced the manager should be fired, she is highly incompetent and argumentative. The cutlery was chipped and dirty. This place should be shut down.

My first and last experience at this place. Probably the worst service I've had in a while! The waitress kept dropping everything and had a "don't care" attitude, we requested more serviettes, she actually responded (quite annoyed) that she had given us enough! After arguing with her, she basically took half the stack of serviettes and literally banged it on our table! Food is not great either. Don't waste your time or money here!

My husband and I were on a flight from ORTambo to East London on Sunday 7 February. As our Kulula flight MN805 was overbooked they issued us with a meal voucher to be used at a vendor within the terminal. We had a piece of cake and a milkshake at Piece a Pizza and handed them our vouchers for R200 in payment. They refused to accept these vouchers as they stated that Kulua had not advised them. I then requested the supervisor, Linda, to phone Kulula and confirm the vouchers. She refused and with that our waitress, Jacki, snatched our boarding passes out of our hand and took off. As we only had 5 minutes left to board I started running after her in a panic and was stopped at security gates. Security staff phoned around and eventually found her and she returned and threw the boarding passes at us and walked off. They asked us to report this matter as her behaviour was absolutely unacceptable. We are senior citizens and this incident left us very traumatised. I sincerely hope these two ladies will be severely reprimanded. (MRS) J FENTHUM

While the waiter attempted to mask a terrible experience with mediocre service, 20 minutes for a "piece of pizza" is a joke. I informed them of my rush and waited till I no longer could. Tables filthy and attitude awful.

I have had a pleasurable experience here, but then again It was a sit in and I was in no hurry.. My milkshake was heavenly... Chocolate brownie and pizza perfect accompliments great service tooo

Beyond distrusting. Dirty and a pathetic excuse for service. This place should not be allowed to exist. Worst coffee I ever had ............

Piece a pizza express at OR international airport (Domestic Departures) is probably the worse place to get a snack before boarding a flight. Firstly they are short on staff and secondly what ever I decided to have, they didn't have it. Another customer nearby recommended that we avoid their pizza due to how terrible it tasted. Its a long weekend, management should know about the expected crowd and prepare better for it. #Disappointed

Right, so on Saturday, after realising how slow Cappello's service was, I finished my milkshake and opted for a Piece a Pizza pizza instead, not realizing that this actually has a fifteen minute wait time anyway.

I would love it if this spot could actually live up to their namesake and just serve up a big slice of pizza quickly, for those of us on the move.

The service is okay. The decor is pleasant and surprisingly comfy. The pasta Alfredo I had was horrible, overpriced and microwaved from frozen. I think I should of gone with a pizza instead.
Alexandra Du Plessis
Overpriced for portions that were small and veeeeery mediocre. Ordered the Pasta Alfredo, and had to drown it in Tabasco to make it slightly enjoyable. But hey, these kinds of restaurants know that people don't have much choice at airports, so they can get away with charging a premium for crappy food :(

Very strange service. Cakes are old and stale. Lots of staff, but does not seem as if there is coordination and confusion as to who is serving you often arrises.
Dylan Taylor
Dis....gusting. Burger patty is frozen processed rubbish, didn't even taste like beef. Wouldn't even keep the leftovers for my dog.

I had to pay for my meal which i hardly ate and then went to another place to get something decent. So sad how this is occupying space in the airport.

EXTREMELY PATHETIC SERVICE AND AN EVEN WORST MEAL! I ordered a Mexicana pizza wrap , the waitress asks me what size? wraps are standard sizes, she then comes back and asks me white or brown bread , really?then time for payment , along with 3 other customers we had to wait as there was no one to assist us except a guy who mocked us when we complained about the service , to top it off , my Mexicana wrap was stuffed with peppers galore, it was so horrible! never again will I waste my time going to this restaurant , will also not recommend to anyone!

About time a pizza place opened up here! Love the spot, and the design of the area, feels very chilled. Their menu could come with a few more veg options (like a veg burger perhaps) and if they served alcohol, they'd do incredibly well! Pizza was great, but don't be fooled by wood fire looking pizza in the menu! All in all, good pizza and speedy service.

The absolute worst dining experience I've had all year. I waited for an hour while others were served (despite arriving much later than I had), I asked if ingredients could be swapped and was told they could be only to be charged R30 (!!!) for extra olives and then the waiter had the cheek to ask me how much I wanted on my card when I didn't leave a tip. The pizza was mediocre at best, it tasted like a frozen pizza base, the olives were old and pepperoni was minimal. Would strongly advise against this establishment.

This is a disgraceful company- occupying a top spot- Diners at the departures. As a South African I believe that our international airport can do better with quality than the jokers at the mentioned restaurant.

We first received a bowl of rotten vegetable - to which the smell was obvious to any person that it could not be for human nor animal consumption- however thinking that we overcame that hurdle - we then was presented with raw chicken to eat (I can confirm that there was no load sharing for raw chicken to be served),

I will be contacting the local press to ensure that this restaurant is corrected or a worthy competitor like Nandos who be one more suited.

I will be back in South Africa next month and I will be also contacted "Tourism SA" to ensure that these jokers at diners do not give our country a bad image yet also food poisoning.
