Review Ocean Basket Emperors Palace - Kempton Park

Had a great time there on Father's day. We went as a group of 7 and the service was pretty good. We got the fried zucchini starter which was good but their edemame fritters were dry and lacking in flavour. The salmon platter tasted fine and the salmon roses were pretty big. Their seafood platters were massive and looked amazing. All the prawns tasted fresh and well-grilled. The calamari heads were top notch and the calamari steak strips were crispy and tender. The hakes were grilled well and the lemon butter sauce went perfectly with rice. Even the table salad was excellent. Overall, good food and good vibes there. Highly recommend a visit.

Had a platter for 1, very good filling and tasty. waiter “Itai” was very nice even took a picture of me entering and recommended a new drink for me .. their lemons oh father they are so so so hard to squeeze the juice out “Itai” even went to get me some more but damn those things are like mini rocks.. the restaurant is clean with only 2 gentleman waiter serving people indoors and outside part of the restaurant and cleaning That makes it a bit delay with getting client served. But they make up on that few minutes waited with excellent service..

This is one of the best Ocean Basket I have been to. The service was excellent, great vibe and an amazing experience. Our waiter was friendly and attentive. He made our experience great.

Love this place. Some of the best seafood I have ever had. I don’t understand it, everything cooked well, I especially like the calamari and muscles, perfection. I love their butter lemon sauce!

Abit pricey but hey all OB's are, although the service here was great, the food was amazing and tasty.

We asked staff if they would be able to serve us within 90 min prior to a show we were to watch. They did not disappoint. The served us quickly and efficiently, the food was ready before our drink. We even at 20 minutes to spare before the doors opened. Well done to the staff!

We visited this ocean basket on Saturday. Amazing service, friendly staff and food out of this world. Super experience. I would definitely recommend this Ocean Basket to everyone. Looking forward to come visiting soon.

Grear environment with nice music in the background. Very calming after gambling. The options on the menu are varied and reasonably priced. Wine is priced competitively. Attentive staff. The tables are quite clean. Separate smoking area so no tobacco fumes. Specials are plastered in the walls in your face. Kitchen looks clean and staff well groomed

If I could rate a flat 0, I would. The service at this restaurant is beyond pathetic! 3 weeks ago we went to have lunch, fish and veggies. When the waitress brought us our plates, I noticed black hair between my veggies. I told the waitress, she bended over the table and nearly with her head in the plate, looked for this hair. I told her to call the manager. She took the plate from me, turned to the table next to me, had her head in the food again! The white manager arrived, without consulting us, had his head in the plate, turned and walked with the plate to the kitchen, consulting who prepped the veggies. Now, he still haven't passed our table to apologise, just told the kitchen staff to prepare new veggies. 5 minutes later my plate of food arrived, him only passing saying "sorry" and then left! What kind of apology is that!? They both had their heads in my food! The fish remained! I had to eat food were someone else's germs was all over my fish!!!! Now, last week Wednesday 22 November 2017, we had lunch there again. The oldish waiter, without introducing himself served us. He brought the plate with sauces to our table, without spoons, without the bread, and then left. Please bare in mind, the restaurant had 7 tables being attended to. Definitely not busy. This waiter wondered around the place, like his job at our table is done. We waited 15min for our drinks! We called the manager, the black manager walked towards our table turned around, walked halfway back, and then only came to our table. The waiter brought us our drinks, so we waited till he left before we spoke to the manager. We told this manager that the waiter was a bit slow. He apologised that the waiter is a bit old. Now, we received service, so much service that the waiter, very anoint, told us, we should not call the manager, he was busy attending to our table!!!! What!?! Since when does waiters tell the customers what to do and what not to do!?! What kind of service was there when the sauces is on the table without spoons, without the bread, and him wondering around!? Pathetic! I ordered the Chocolate Lava cake with ice cream, this cake was overly done! The lava was burned, It definitely was not smooth chocolate like lava, but burned! It burned my mouth that's how hot it was, and tasted bad! This we did not even brough to the managers attention, we paid and left! This place, it's staff and Managers needs some serious attitude changes! PS! Salt and pepper shakers on the tables would also be nice! Haven't seen any shakers on all the tables!

We visit OB on Monday. The food displayed on the menu is not the food served on your plate. The fish on my plate looked like left overs from another plate The food was cold and at the end the waiter got NO TIP I tip for good service

Will never eat at any Ocean Basket Besides Emperors palace. Food always amazing and fresh. Staff are extremely helpful. Manager (Justin) just puts the cherry on top with his amazing attitude, willingness to assist, always checking if things are okay. He really creates a joyful atmosphere with his presence, He treats you more than just a common everyday customer paying customer. i write this review because its not a once off good food, amazing vibe kind of place, it is Consistent and does not fail to please.

Pathetic service, the waiter made me feel like he was doing me a favour, never introduce himself, I asked for extra lemon butter sauce and it never came to us.

Most people have good things to say about this Ocean Basket unfortunately my experience was dissapointing.<br/>Service was slow, waitress was all over the place and food was not tasty at all.<br/><br/>My visit to this OB has put me off Ocean Basket in general. I won't go back and I am not even willing to give this place another try.

I arrived here at 8. The operating hours state they close at 11:30, however i visited here on a sunday night and around 9:30, my friend and I were the last people there. We saw it was getting quiet so we asked for the bill and hadnt finished our drinks as we were still having a bit of a chat. Our waitress gave us the bill and the staff started cleaning up, 5 minutes later someone who wasnt even our waitress stood at our table until we paid our bill. Rude! Food was really average as well. I do not recommend this branch.

Situated on the busiest parts of Emperors Palace, I felt that the ambience is a too squashed and water was dripping on our tables. Service was a bit slow with but the waiter was pretty good as the evening wore on. Our platters were not too bad and there seems to be a bit more variety from before.

We went there on new years eve. Thought we will be waiting forever because the Q was very long. Ended up not waiting that long plus even though it was super busy, the service and food was still fantastic. Other places always use the excuse of being busy and then that is the reason for bad food but here is a good example of a place bursting at the seems on a busy night and the food is still to die for.

There food is acceptable but they always so busy and the waiting period it’s sometimes ridiculous. The open sitting area is rowdy and you can’t really enjoy your food.

I personally had a good time. Friendly people serving, yet the food takes long to come and that's why I don't have my full 5. But I enjoyed the food.

Waited 40 minutes for plate of sushi...eventually left.<br/>No feedback from waiter Prosperous or the manager.<br/>Worst place ever.....don't waste your time or money.<br/>Even the beers are warm and service is non-existant.<br/>

Had a sushi plate and a fish and chips.. Decently done.. Also ordered a long island iced tea..which was lacking any punch or a goos taste.. Apart from that really liked the food.. Eould definitely have the sushi again..

We had a really great experience at the Ocean Basket. Our waiter was named Mandla and he was really friendly. My parents ordered the fish and calamari combo with both rice and chips but the kitchen made a mistake and gave them rice. My mother said it's fine when I wanted to ask about the chips but when Mandla the waited brought my food he saw that my parents didn't have any chips and he promptly left and brought them both chips. I would definitely recommend him as a waiter he immediately realised when we didn't receive all we ordered.

Horrible . Horrible. Horrible. We ordered a platter for two. And our drinks. Our drinks were served promptly and soon afterwards our meals. The waiter never bothered to ask how we would like our foods prepared. We prefer our calamari grilled . ...but it arrived soaked in oil. Fish was rubbery . Entire meal was cold. The manager did come to the table and informed that the waiter who served us was one of his top. Mr Manager! If that's your top waiter, you got serious problems ! Mr Manager did as also try to rescue the horrible meal by bringing a freshly cooked fish separately, and offered to do the same with the Calamari. But ....a bad prepared meal cannot be fixed by bringing the bad prepared portions separately prepared in a frying pan. I mean, what's the purpose of having a platter if it comes in bits on a frying pan. Ocean basket @Emperors, we will never visit ever again. A fine dinner out ....horribly ended.

Food was very bad. Platter for 2 was terrible, waiter didn't even ask us how we would like our fish and calamari done, when food CME to the table the fish was like chewing rubber and even the prawns and calamari wasn't very tasteful. Won't be going back to any of these outlets again.

Visited the restaurant during a weekday.<br/>Twas very full and had to wait a while for the food, however it did not dissapoint, the food was very fresh and delicious.<br/>Best branch I've been to.

A group of 11 of us had a quick dinner here last night prior to a theatre show. My seafood soup was very tasty and the ingredients were plentiful. The rest of the table mostly had fish and chips or prawns and chips. Everyone was very happy with their food and the portions were reasonable. Given that we had a time constraint, the service was very good.

I was pleasantly surprised by Ocean Basket at Emporers. We were a large group including 3 kids, joining for a late-ish Sunday lunch. To keep things simple we ordered platters to share and carafes. Service was good. Food came out quick and of a great quality - I even enjoyed the grilled calamari which is never something I opt for. My dessert was the chocolate lava cake which was also well prepared and yummy. Well done!

The food was great( succulent and fresh), the waitron was super busy yet efficient but we had a bad encounter with the manager Justin.<br/><br/>He came over to the table next to ours and asked how they were doing and how the food was, he then went on to ask if they were using their hot sauce, to which they said they were not and he could take it. Immediately after he reached for the tomato sauce on our table without so much as a hi or even eye contact. He was about to walk away when I said "excuse me, we are using that." He then turned around and said he was going to ask but that was far from the truth, he was practically already gone.<br/><br/>I'm that situation I could only attribute this kind of disregard and utter disrespect with race, because had he done the same with the couple on the other table I would have just passed him off as rude.<br/><br/>Definitely not going back where I'm not wanted and would advise that if you are a person of colour looking to have a lovely day out without odd things to mess it up, steer clear of this place or get a takeaway.

Disappointing experience. Ordered grilled fish and salad, fish covered in lemon BUTTER! Calamari was tough and all plates of food cold and rubbery. Understand they are busy but appears they don't care about customers and doing you a favour serving you.

Probably my least favourite Ocean Basket branch. My family and I have eaten here a few times over the years, always leave feeling pretty dissatisfied. Their service is very delayed and you sit there waiting for ages for food, even when they aren't that busy (and when its busy, you might as well have eaten at home before going for dinner). Their food is really not that good in comparison to some other Ocean Baskets, in my opinion. They could really try improve on their service and food.

Popped in for a quick bite to eat after seeing a show at The Theatre of Marcellus, which was at about 21h30. The restaurant was about a third full, but service was terrible. Staff spent more time chatting to each other than serving, we had to remind the waiter about our drinks orders on two separate occasions and the sushi took about 25 minutes to come out, which I felt was a little long considering that most other people were already eating, by the time we sat down. The menu's were really tatty and half falling apart - possibly maybe for a reprint? The sushi was really tasty however, my dining partner and I shared a salmon maki, which was beautifully presented and Two Way Platter, which included salmon roses and tempura prawn rolls as well as rainbow rolls and fried crab california rolls. I would possibly go back for the sushi, if in the area again.

I have been visiting this particular branch for the past 3 years now and the service has always been acceptable but I can't say the same for the past 4 months. I eat at emperors very often and the cuisine varieties are very limited so I'm usually restricted to ocean basket. I really enjoy eating at Ocean basket because it is one of the most consistent ( in terms of food quality) franchise restaurants but in my last five visits the service has been nothing short of horrendous.Maybe I'm a sucker for bad service but i walked out the restaurant 5 times in the last four months due little or no service.On each occasion the restaurant had no more than 3 tables occupied and this is unforgivable in my books. No doubt I won't be visiting this branch again !!!

After a photo shoot I stopped here for a quick cocktail and sushi. I like my cocktails strong, and when it promises 6 different spirits, I expect a kick, but unfortunately I was disappointed. Luckily the barman did make up for it a bit, but said that the alcohol comes premixed...what!??! You mean 20% alcohol mixed with 80% water? Eish head office... The Tempura Prawns in the sushi were also nowhere to be found, except for big chunks of cucumber. Not excited to return soon.

Dropped someone at the airport, thought to go to Emperors to get a bite to eat & kill some time while the traffic dies down. We had really great service and the food was yummy.I had the fish & prawn combo for R89.00 my friend had the fish & chips for R54.00. We shocked at what good value the food was.Will definitely be back to try other options.

I have been out this way for a ballet at Emperors and on a recommendation from a foodie friend, I chose Ocean Basket for our pre-show snack.<br/><br/>Fats Lazarides, whose vision to provide affordable, delicious seafood has really paid off with over 189 stores today from Dubai to Nigeria. <br/><br/>Ocean Basket just has such good value-for-money and this particular outlet was no different! Sadly, the service wasn't fantastic but it was quick (and I had been pre-warned so it didn't ruin my meal). <br/><br/>On the food side, with Ocean Basket, I tend to stick to what they do best: seafood platters with  their signature creamy lemon sauce, sushi and Italian kisses to finish. <br/>All in all - a good meal, and I do go back from time to time.

To be honest, this was my first visit to any Ocean Basket and I must say the service was not great at all.The waiters were slow,but the food was great, I'm not a big fan of seafood but I will be going back there soon. Hopefully the service will be better.

When we arrived we struggled to get into the restaurant as there was 7 waiters standing around blocking the entrance way. <br/><br/>I've never been just totally negative about a restaurant but this was just one too much. <br/>The service was appalling and the food even worse plus they very expensive. R76 for a salad comprising of cucumber, tomatoes & a block of cheese. My calamari was so tough, dry & chewy that I had to order a sauce to try & swallow it. <br/><br/>I regret so much paying over R420 for this lousy meal & experience. Feels like I've been mugged & had my money stolen!

We popped in at Ocean Basket to have a few oysters as a birthday treat for one of our colleagues.<br/>Fresh, delicious oysters were served in a pan on ice with lemon and Tabasco to enhance the taste.<br/><br/>Usually one would choose a dry white wine with this but we had cappuccinos and pina collada's, all of which tasted amazing.<br/>Great service and a enjoyable experience!

Went there before a show. Food was very good! Service was fast. We didn't have much time, and we received our food quickly after ordering.<br/><br/>I do recommend that you book a table especially over the weekend.

Personally this is THEE best OB branch.<br/><br/>Their food quality and taste is always consistent. Their calamari is the softest from all the branches i have been too and the prawns taste good. Yes on the rare occasion their service isnt up to scratch but mostly they are on point, the staff are friendly and they are always busy and i am happy to go back anytime.
