Review Bob's Bagel Cafe - Kalk Bay

Gemini Blue
First time visiting Kalk Bay in 7 years & was struggling to find a coffee shop that was able to make coffee due to load shedding. Someone suggested we head up to Bob's. A nice little hidden gem opposite a public park. Plenty of great food & snacks on offer & very reasonably priced. We ordered a Latte & Cappuccino. Coffee was great quality, sadly we were given the wrong size (ordered 2 Large, got small) but will definitely be returning again one day soon. l

I love the bagels, smoothies, and coffee at this cozy spot, and the playground nearby is a bonus. However, I noticed the staff could use more training when taking orders. On a visit on September 17th afternoon, we couldn't sit inside due to the staff preparing off-menu food , and the strong smell was filling the place, which was a bit disappointing.

Drove all the way from Somerset West to get my cuppa from Bob’s Bagels. The brownies are really the best in town and the vibe is really great. Its set off the main street so it’s a great place to chill out, have a great cup of coffee and a bagel or something sweeter. They have an assortment of biscuits on sale as well and have extended the indoor seating area to accommodate more people on the more windy/rainy days! The park next door is a great spot for kids to burn off some sugar and there is always a friendly dog or three in the area for you to give a good ear run too! Magical little spot.

Lovely place to fall back on after a walk along the road to Muzenberg and back. The coffee is extraordinarily good and home roasted and the bagels are better than in New York City. Delish. Service is good and Bob, the boss is Kind regards, Mark Buwalda and straight forward in his answers. So if you happen to be in the hood, you now know where to go!

Very nice service, awesome bagels and very good coffee! We’ll come again whenever we’re in town!

Lovely quaint restaurant away from the Kalk Bay holiday crowd in the main street. Lovely peaceful place to read and have a good coffee and bagel. Added bonus, nice pottery shop next door.

Amazing walk from Muizenberg to Kalk Bay stopping at Bob's Bagel for the most amazing coffee ☕️ and bagels 🥯! Enjoyed the ocean view from outside the shop and enjoyed watching the kids and dogs play in the park opposite the café. Lovely family outing.

Don’t go to Bobs Bagels because you’ll never want to go anywhere else ever again. Stay away so there’s always plenty of freshly baked bagels and no queue for the coffee ! 😉

Delicious and fresh bagels. Seeing that I now live about 350m away, I'll definitely be back! Service on the day wasn't great, though...

What a stunning coffee shop. Nathaniel is a star and makes a great cup of coffee

Absolutely awesome coffee and probably the best croissant I have had in South Africa. You need to visit this gem. Parking is not plentiful so find a spot and walk - well worth the stroll

Coffee is amazing !! Bought some last week and the beans were still warm. Nothing can describe the delicious smell that hits your nostrils as you open the bag.

Cosy little gem, coffee was good and the bagels excellent. Fresh and tasty with a neat selection of toppings. Cost was low, which is was unexpected for the quality. Will certainly return

Wonderful authentic unusual place on the park. It has its own roasters and fantastic bagels. Tables and chairs on the park as well. Great for kids.

Oh how I hoped this place would be as amazing as the reviews made it seem. Strolling down Kalk bay main road, my husband saw a sign that said Bob's Bagels (I had completely forgot where it was but the name jogged my memory immediately and I went into enthusiastic overdrive) "OMG babe, lets go here pleeeeeeease, I've heard about it and it's supposed to be super famous for NY style bagels". The enthusiasm stopped there unfortunately and I spent the rest of the day saying "I'm so sorry lunch is on me okay? I promise we will go somewhere nice". The place is cute and charming which is what everyone will say. Wouldn't hurt to dust the place once in a while tho. We ordered the smoked salmon and cream cheese since we were promptly told as we entered that there was no egg, tomato, rocket and avo. So for R60 a pop we got smoked salmon and cream cheese, a red cappucino and a Lemon iced tea for R180 (remember to bring cash!). I spied a big water vestibule on a shelf but it looked old so asked for a glass of water. Needless to say I had to get it from the big jar thingy and the glass I was given was dirty (which I wiped under the table with my tshirt before I drunk from it). Sigh. The smoked salmon was generous and so was the cream cheese. The bagels were hard and not soft or chewy as my New Yorker (said in a Brooklyn accent) husband would have preferred. He is not a fussy man, I mean he eats my food, and he rarely complains about anything so there must be some truth to that. The hunt for bagels continues...

Awesome! Loved the bagels. Such a cool spot. We are here for the week and will be making a stop there every morning for breakfast. A gem of a find in Kalk Bay.

Bobs bagels is off the main road - which is great little kept secret. It's a tiny little spot who only serve bagels. We stopped for a coffee and scoped their menu - unfortunately there was no gluten free/ Banting option so we did not eat there. The coffee was good - charging for honey (that was crystallized) on a red cappuccino seems unnecessary - maybe add it to the coffee cost. The bagels available for take away were quite small - which is probably better to not over indulge 😂 we sat outside in the fresh air and enjoyed our coffee and it was lovely.

Delicious bagels! bobs Bagels is situated opposite the child friendly, dog friendly park and offers a small pretty area to enjoy a cappuccino and bite to eat. Bagels are tasty, a little on the small side compared to other Bagel stores but well worth the money when it comes to flavour and friendly staff. I enjoyed a bacon, avo and rocket Bagel for R45 along with a red cappuccino which was made to perfection ! As always, I will be back!

This is honestly such a hidden gem in a beautiful town tucked away where mainly the locals would go with locally sourced treats from muzièmberg and surrounding to provide you with the most delectable and delicious bagels, coffee, fresh juices and treats. And the ocean in walking distance. Amazing service and to top it off the decor is so unique and very thoughtful of the designer.

No Sunday is complete without a visit to Bob's Bagels. Pop in and place your order, then either sit inside or outside in the park. If you choose the latter option your name will called when your order is ready and you can enjoy your coffee in the sunshine. A treat for the kids are the yummy biscuits which are so beautifully iced. The coffee is amazing and they now have their own blend you can take home. This place is just perfect for Kalk Bay and fits in with all tbe quaintness that makes this area so unique. <br/>
