We spent a wonderful anniversary night away at Chartfield Guest House in Kalk Bay and went to Salt {Kalk Bay Main Road next to Olympia Cafe} for dinner. What a FANTASTIC evening we had! The service was attentive and friendly and we ordered most of the "small plates" available on the daily menu board. We were certainly not disappointed. The food & presentation were incredible. We would HIGHLY recommend a visit! The food was outstanding - we ordered the lamb ravioli twice! We cannot pick a favorite dish, as we raved about them all. What a treat and we will certainly be back. They deserve to have patrons queuing at the door.... As we were settling the bill, Nic, the owner came over to introduce himself and asked how our evening had been and if we had enjoyed ourselves. The staff are young and passionate, which we are sure is a recipe for success. Onwards and upwards! We will be back soon! Salt, Kalk Bay.

Absolutely incredible food. The wasabi calamari is a must - I don't even like spicy food and found it delicious! The linefish was just fantastic. The wines are also very tasty. Do yourself a favour and check it out

It’s the little things that accompany each dish which make the food a great experience. Ask the waiter what’s good and order that. Important to remember these guys are ditching plastic which 8million tones enter the oceans each year. What are you doing to help? Thx guys! Salt is the new Brass bell. Hopefully just ALoT cleaner in the kitchen ha ha!!!

Incredible food. The butternut ravioli with sage butter & kudu goulash with homemade pasta was outstanding. Nice wine selection, espresso machine working overtime and great staff. Don’t miss it!

I had a curried lentil salad with radish and beetroot last night and I was beyond impressed. A wonderful vegeterian dish with incredibly well matched flavours which excite both the taste buds and the mind. Pure genius work from owner Nic Macleod, and with that unique menu, Salt will definitely see me again to try the rest.

My most favorite way to start the day with BFF’s, double shot Cappuccino or a Cortado to really get the day going, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Kalk Bay

Honestly SO tasty! My sister and I are vegan and it tops all the restaurants we usually go to. We ordered four dishes, one main and three small plates, and then ordered an extra two portions of the Zucchini and Kale Pesto... The meat eaters were also blown away by the vegan dishes (and their own food) and we were all round a very happy table! And the wine was good. Will DEFINITELY be back.

What a little gem. The food was well priced and delicious - and ice cold beers kept magically appearing in front of me! Definitely recommend.

Bircher muesli and the paw paw combined is the absolute killer combo of the century !! So so so so good! Avo on toast was 11/10 as well. Their almond milk flat white is the best and the service always with a smile and just the best. This location is the best there is in kalk bay! Love it. Must visit if you in town.

Had a lovely lunch here with delicious margaritas and impeccable service! Would definitely recommend this restaurant for anyone looking for a lunch spot in Kalk Bay. The restaurant is also charmingly decorated and offers a variety of pastries and coffee for a breakfast or treat.

The perfect place for a quality seaside winter evening. Not flashy but of great quality. Superb food from fresh ingredients, carefully put together with attention to detail. Very professional, yet friendly and not 'in your face' service. Drinks selection is exquisite, not much of the trivial wine list, an experience of it's own. Can keep raving about it but you better try it yourself ☺️

Delicious and affordable dinner, super friendly staff and a great menu. SALT has a unique atmosphere with partial outside area and a visible kitchen with insights into the cooking process. It’s also pretty bright during load shedding.

Such a beautiful food experience at our first visit to Salt, Kalk Bay. The tapas plates are perfect for two people looking to have a variety of flavour bombs. And the coastal setting was wonderful. This was the Small Fish with Aoli, the Crunchy Chicken Bao Bun with Kimchi, the Wasabi Dusted Calamari and the Cevichi.

Stopped by for coffee and lunch, and thought the whole place was fantastic. Exceeding friendly staff who kindly helped us with which options were vegetarian. Wonderful selection of small plates and excellent quality cooking. We loved everything we ate, and also enjoyed the cortados. Highly recommend stopping here for lunch or dinner!

Best food I’ve had in South Africa. Super fresh super interesting flavours super thoughtful. Try the linefish and calamari dusted with wasabi. We tried lots of small plates and a main and every dish was great. I didn’t love the courgette with kale pesto but nothing a little salt can’t help with! The setting is beautiful and the staff are alas professional and super friendly. I’d come back in a heartbeat. One of the best finds of SA

This restaurant is marvelous. The interior, the atmosphere and experience. The menu is written on the wall which I found so different and interesting. The service was incredible, we were greeted with a very warm and friendly smile and received heart-warming service till the very end.

We initially wanted to go to a nearby restaurant recommended by our host but mistakenly entered Salt and that was the best mistake we made that day. The small sharing plates make it easier to decide what to order because everything seems like a great option, and it is, and we loved trying that all. Affordable prices, too, and a nice view through the window. We would definitely recommend it, especially if you like tapas. Calamari and ceviche were our favourite two.

There is no better place to go for a varied meal: Mezze, Tapas, small plates; call them what you want. Some places offer them but often the portions are large and often too expensive and not often done as well as here. There was such a variety to choose from- read the menus’. We enjoyed white bait (small white fish) with a subtle garlic aoli, gluten free nachos with guac and a ceviche. A short while later, we also tried the meatballs. Although I needed to add salt and pepper to the aioli and more lemon to the ceviche (to help it cure), it was by no means bland. Our favourite beer was also served on tap, which is a plus. The ambiance is cosy and don’t be surprised if someone asks if they can sit at the other end of the table- all part of the vibe. The service was so sweet and friendly. Obviously, the name of our server was Raine, there is no way an ordinary named person would serve us in a chilled, amazing place such as Salt! This is definitely a place that can be visited often. Time your visit well, as it fills up very quickly.

Pity they'd run out of kudu meat ... will have to visit again. Dog friendly. Burger was very good 👍... Found the Thai chicken (I think it was) a little bit bland and small... but then again my waistline might thank me for that!

Came here based on Lonely Planet’s recommendation and totally enjoyed my dinner and breakfast here. Go with the small plates, they are ALL super delicious and affordable. Calamari and cerviche are standouts. Mains are quite big in portions and great for sharing too. Try their local craft beers which are fantastic too. Service is friendly, warm and prompt. Overall highly recommended!

Great service, cool location overlooking the little harbour. Probably the best place for light lunch in Kalk Bay. Line fish of the day a great option, washed down with local craft beer 🍺

Great people, great coffee, great lunches, amazing staff, perfect location, and outstanding vibe. My favourite place to go when I want to get out the house and do some work. HOWEVER, their pastries are average, they need work and they make my *soft* eggs *hard*.

We were at SALT for lunch and had the best food so far. We shared the small dishes and is was the perfect combination. The pasta was homemade and full of flavours. If you are around, check this place out - it‘s worth it.
