Review Satori - Kalk Bay

Amy Marriner
Second time eating there and it was a lovely treat. First time I have ordered their pasta and what a treat! Perfect seasoned and creamy with a good ration of pasta, sauce and meat. Also MASSIVE portions! Luckily they had a takeaway box ready for me đŸ€ With such a cosy ambience, I believe a bit of a comfier chair would be great and perhaps a “couples” table to enjoy the romance side by side. All in all a great experience

We were recommended this place. Wondered up to check it out. Received a great welcome from front of house. The buzzing atmosphere was evident and menu looked great so we made our reservation. It did not disappoint. Pork belly starter was sublime, as was the calamari served with avocado salad and a separate chilli sauce. Soooo good. Mains were the tuna teriyaki and sirloin steak. Both wow. The wines which we chose by the glass were really well recommended by the excellent staff who paired them perfectly with our choices. Topped off with a tiramisu to share. So light and so perfect to finish things off. What a find. Satori is a proper hit. Loved it.

Food quality, comfort, atmosphere 💕👏 Satori has it all! Comfortable seating, relaxing vibes, and the view of the sea are calming 😌 From walking into the restaurant to leaving, we were taken by how well the staff, kitchen, and floor workers worked together to run like a well-oiled machine. Weekly specials are available. Check them out. The waiters were helping out other tables. Very informative and descriptions of their foods. Ask your waiter for their recommendations. I highly recommend the eggplant 🍆 stew and strawberry🍓 salad đŸ„— not to mention pizzas and pastas 👌

Very nice and cozy restaurant right on the main street. Everyone loved their food and the service was great. There are parking available on the street but it can become very busy. Best would be to go by train as the station is right across the road.

The service here is absolutely amazing. Each waiter tends to you even though you're not their table and it appears there is a culture of teamwork. The restaurant is more of a boutique restaurant, tables are quite close to each other apart from the reserved tables which have slightly more space. There are also tables available outside if you want to be part of the busy street culture outside or it's a hot day these night work better, however I did see they offer blankets for the colder nights. Food was very tasty and offered that great wood fired oven taste. Was ready very quickly. The restaurant has a bit of an arty decor with tables lit with candles. If you are sitting in the reserved tables I believe it would be quite cosy, but if you're popping by for a quick bite the middle and outdoor tables have the standard restaurant seating feel to them. The menu was quite affordable.

The restaurant is very comfortable, everything is calm. There are also interesting paintings, signs on the walls, which betrays a certain charm to stay in the restaurant. The menu is very clear. The choice is very large, especially for pizzas (you can even make your own from the proposed ingredients). There are not always a lot of customers, but before the evening in the restaurant I advise you to book a table. The staff is kind enough, you can take a dog, but if there is outside

This stands out as the best dining experience on the False Bay coast. Excellent quality ingredients in authentic delicious dishes. Excellent and attentive service. Always busy, but not uncomfortably so. Make a booking!

Second time here this week and have tried 4 dishes now. Everyone was fantastic, very polite helpful staff and it gets busy in the evening. Definitely worth the trip

Absolutely amazing food, drinks, desserts, waiters are super helpful and friendly. The manager was very cool. Knew exactly who we were when we arrived for our wedding anniversary celebration.
Casey Lee Jeftha
Absolutely amazing place. Loved it here and the food was so delicious
Trace Lund
Very tasty food. Generous portions. Attentive staff.

Ordered the infamous oxtail ragyu gnocchi and im not kidding when I say that it was one of the best meals of my life. The staff are fabulous too and will definitely be coming back!
Sharon Haseley
Ate here for the first time this evening and have to say the food was exceptional my husband had the steak and I had pork belly, oh my days we will be back here for sure, fantastic food and excellent service, it was memorable to say the least x

The good: The restaurant has a pleasant atmosphere with quirky and interesting interior. The food we ate was very nice. I had the Asian stir fry pasta wit a sauce that was near perfect. The two ladies next to us had big smiles on their faces while eating. The bad: The restaurant is in the main Street of Kalk Bay so parking is a bit of a problem. But when you find parking it will be worth Wille to visit this restaurant.

Beautiful little intimate restaurant. I love the decor and the lighting at night. It was filled up but they still had one little table for me and my partner and was quick to place us. We had a pizza and it was good.
Ricarda Miller
Had a really nice glutenfree pizza there for lunch. Got served super fast. Our waiter Lucy was amazing with my toddler and he got his own pizza dough to make his own pizza bread, which they then baked for him. Can recommend 100%. Thaaaaanks !
Brad
The pizza is out of the top drawer, absolutely amazing. Service was top notch as well, a small vibey restaurant, can see why they are rated number 1 in Kalk Bay.
Jamtia
It's definitely worth curving out great food, excellent service and friendly staff, who remember you. Excellent food. Must try the mussels to die for.
Fiona Beckett
The best place for Gluten Free Pizzas in Cape Town. Their bases are crunchy and don’t absorb all of the cheese like others do. The staff are awesome, the restaurant is generally pretty busy but the food never takes very long and the food is always great. We have had takeaways but best to go and get the pizza straight out of the oven.

Once again Satori never disappoints! Amazing food fabulous atmosphere and the staff and Manager always friendly welcoming faces. Top notch and will always recommend it to people, well done Satori on great quality and service
Jodi Leza Thurtell
Thoroughly disappointed by the management at Satori. I specifically booked a table by the window for my 30th Birthday weeks in advance for 4 people. Once we were seated at the table and were enjoying our drinks and conversation, the manager asked us to move to a smaller, cramped table so they could accommodate a 6 top. I refused to move and she made such a fuss that we gave in to her request. It put such a dampener on my special evening. Food was lovely, wait staff were great but manager needs to be reminded of how to treat patrons. We left early, didn't have dessert. Won't go there again!
Dan Osorio
Excellent! I recommend it. I had the yellowtail ravioli. You must try it and ask for the chili to add the extra temperature. Service is excellent.

My go to pizza place. The staff are friendly and super efficient. I still haven't figured out how they get the food out so fast......
Thomas J Banza
Best food I've eaten while in Cape Town! Pizza is amazing and the staff is friendly and welcoming.
Sandra Harris Blake
Much better sitting outside, eating pizza & sipping a glass of Tranquille. Sitting inside is just depressing, but it was cold yesterday, so . . . Decor is a bit tired. And I missed my favourite MaĂźtre D' - the beautiful lady with the turban ïżœ.
Andre Pottas
We love Satori and have never been disappointed. The waitstaff are fantastic and great personalities, and the food is delicious and reasonably priced. Our party of 6 yesterday had the mussels special, pizzas and pastas and all was good.
Hayden Bruce Jones
Probably the best pasta I’ve ever had! Staff are always in close proximity and ready to assist. Overall a fine dining experience. Hope to be in Kalk Bay soon.
Mark Griffin
Best experience in Kalk bay, good food, great menue with friendly staff and 5 star service! Definitely recommended!
Patt Stewart
Best pizza and service ever. Friendly staff. Interesting and quirky interior. Great location and fond fun memories of my 1st ever holiday with just my sister and I! Just the best!
Anoesjka Jordaan
Very friendly and staff efficient! Delicious pizza and didn't have to wait very long for food!
Patti Oosthuizen
Had a really good eve with 25 ladies set up in two tables. Food was excellent so that side was huge tick. Then come the BUTS. Our waiter was totally rude, unhelpful and I'll stop there should not be in the industry. Eg would not accommodate us to add extra seat, came to us to say bill was short paid by "a lot" only for us to find that he had not collect the monies on the table. Also an auto 12% tip added. When I asked him to advise the table he just said, - no, you can tell them. When booking were advised but a table of 12 with an auto 12% - no no

Fantastic food and friendly service. A must if you visit Kalk Bay

As a first-time Cape Town visitor from Joburg, I was so impressed with the food and the restaurant. Thanks so much for the great meal :) 2 thumbs up! Kelly Matthee

Best place to eat in Kalk Bay....staff awesome. Food awesome. Such a friendly cosy venue.
Liesl Tamlin
Great vibe and animated waiters. Very quick service. Awesome pizza, but pork belly was perfectly made.
Charmaine Esch
Awesome meal and fabulous staff that go out of their way to make your evening great. Thank you.
Ané Helen Williams
Quality ingredients cooked to perfection.  Warm, welcoming and competent staff. I really enjoyed my experience. My new favourite spot in Kalk Bay. I can’t wait to return.
Rhonel Stoltz
Walked into the restaurant on the off chance it might not be busy!! We were greeted with friendliness and shown a table. We were very lucky! As the evening progressed the restaurant became busier and busier but it definitely did not hamper the service or the quality of the food. What a wonderful evening out. Will definitely be returning, this time we will book beforehand.
Alexandra Abrahams
The delicious food smell as you walk past got our attention and decided to venture in. Creamy mussels was devine and pork ribs that fall of the bone was even better. Nice portion sized and priced. Service was also top notch! Definitely going back to try the wood fire pizzas and pork belly!!
Zahrah A
Ordered the chicken and prawn linguini with creamy white sauce. Husband had the sirloin strips served in creamy garlic sauce. Loved the taste of the lemony prawns. Had the tiramisu for dessert and it didn't disppoint. Staff was attentive and service was quick. Will be back to try more of their pasta dishes.

Satori smelt of home, pizzas, pastas and seafood! <br/>It’s rare to find Italian which does seafood EXCEPTIONALLY WELL but this place really does!<br/><br/>The authentic Italian decor and food attracts many loyal customers or “regulars”<br/><br/>The linefish was kingclip with mashed potatoes and asparagus - this was prepared and cooked to perfection.<br/>The mussels were served with toasted cheese bread and were absolutely incredible.<br/><br/>The pizzas, pastas and Greek salad was also nice - you just can’t go wrong here!<br/><br/>We were all thoroughly impressed with the overall experience which was wonderful! <br/><br/>Atmosphere: cosy yet vibrant <br/>Pricing: medium to high<br/>Quality: excellent<br/>Service: excellent <br/>
Jeremiah Albertyn
A warm welcoming ambience greets you, very friendly staff that buzzes about so no need to be left out in the cold. We enjoyed the Franco pizza which was ample for 2. Yet to try the pasta
Craig Lavis
Absolutely love this place! I have been here before a very long time ago and remembered thoroughly enjoying the experience. It’s good to know nothing has changed. Fantastic service, delicious food, friendly and welcoming staff - just an overall gem! Definitely a firm favourite
Marilie Strydom
This is the most wonderful local gem in the heart of Kalk Bay! The food is always great, the atmosphere cosy and it has friendly staff that make an effort to make you feel welcome and give you excellent service. Satori will definitely keep you coming back!
Barry Wolmarans
Great food, good wine, fantastic ambience! Pizzas were amazing, staff were attentive and a fantastic venue. Looking forward to coming back soon...
Tammy Kruger
Great food, enjoyed the pizza the most. Food came out super quick. Enjoyed the vibe but more than anything loved the staff! Really awesome friendly, fun and attentive staff. Super impressed!
Diederik Van 't Hof
Very busy, very nice. Friendly, noisy, good food and attentive staff. Good elaborate Italian menu, and I chose the sirloin steak. Came very well presented, in a thick rich gravy and a seriously yummy mushroom and spinach sauce. Cooked as ordered and to be recommended.
Lynique Schalkwijk
I love visiting this restaurant from Jhb, charming Italian feel, great service and delicious food with generous portions. The Manager, Nazley adds a special touch which does not go unnoticed.<br/><br/>Great pork belly with crispy crackling, perfect creamy chicken pesto, and a slightly over cooked sirlion. I will definitely return here when Im in CT again!
Kaitlyn Williams
Comfortable setting, has a rustic Italian vibe to it. Enjoyed a delicious large pizza: Thin base, fresh ingredients. Would definitely be back again soon
Susan Searle
Great little gem on the South peninsula. The tuna is amazing when they have it- pizza is great and the Mussel pot sauce is amazing- order extra bread.... you will want to eat it all!!
Ulisha Moodley
Satori is cosy and the service is warm and friendly. We all had different things but the outstanding dishes was the veg cannelloni and the la nonna pizza. It's a very simple pizza but made deliciously. We also had dessert which was Italian kisses, so divine! Would have easily not shared them 😜. Will definitely be back.
Margot Johnson
Sweet little Italian cove in popular Kalk Bay. The food and staff are unpretentious and welcoming. It's not Italy... it's the mix between an Italian chef and a South African, barefoot, food loving kalkie. It's unusual but it works. The food is consistent and warm and perfect for a casual evening with friends, before theatre stop or after beach stop in. They have brilliant wheat free options (pizza and pasta) and delicious house salads. Great value... bring your own wine (their wine list is bad).
Arron
A cosy street side Italian restaurant which seriously packs a punch with their pizzas. <br/>We were greeted by the friendly waitstaff and enticed by the fresh aromas wafting out into the street - our choice for the day was already made. <br/>We had the Georgio and Leonardo pizzas. They were served to us straight out of the oven, the aromas even dared to greet the noses of passersby (prompting a compliment or two). <br/>The pizzas had a superb thin base and a good dose of fresh toppings. The pizzas are rather filling and true value for money. I would definitely come here again!
Ron Pereira
Great Italian meal, good vibes & pleasent service. Needs more starter options but mains were really tasty. Not quite Roma, but one of the best in Cape Town.
Barbara Ann Hall
A typical little Italian restaurant that spills out onto the road in Kalk Bay.... So outside and watch the passers by. Good value for money and good home made dishes. Well presented with good service.
Chloe
I've been meaning to try this place out for years. Everytime I walk up the lane along the restaurant it smells amazing and warm. I had the chicken with creamy ginger and lime sauce on butternut, sweet potato and baby marrow strips. It was amazing! My fiancé had one of their famous pizzas and was not disappointed either. I was a bit disappointed by the atmosphere. I hate sitting across a massive table from someone, especially in a packed loud restaurant. We had the Italian kisses and tiramisu for dessert and it was average at best. The food was great but the whole experience wasn't good enough to return.
Clive Jones
Had the pea and ham soup, steak pasta, pork belly. All great. Service great. All round nice experience. Would recommend for a casual dining lunch / dinner
Francois Daniel Maritz
Great tasting food! Nice ambience, super kind staff and fast service. I'll be back.<br/>Slightly on the expensive side but worth the money. See ya soon!<br/>

Stopped over in Kalk bay for a quick lunch and enjoyed a good meal at Satori. Hubby opted for the Lamb Curry and I chose the yellow tail and shrimp ravioli in Arrabiata sauce. Food was tasty and our waitress was very friendly. Food came out in no time and everything was in order. My only dislike, which is preference more than anything else, was that there was celery and carrots / peppers in my sauce, which traditionally isn't and also wasn't stated on the menu.
Stefan Janssens
Good, hearty food. The Ravioli & Pizza we ordered were quite good. Unfortunately the orders got messed up, and we ate separately. Waitering staff not to great.
ML Korb
We found this little gem today...and what a discovery! The pizza was some of the best we have ever had! The manager was extremely helpfull and provided us with excellent and friendly service! We will definitely be back!

We have been to Satori thrice now. The food is good but the staff courtesy is poor. The manager refused to serve us dinner because we had booked a table for 4 and were only ordering 2 main course and a starter. One of us was not feeling well thus we were short on our order. I have never experienced this kind of a behaviour anywhere around the world.
Stuart
Arrived at Kalk Bay on a balmy, warm Friday night. The street was buzzing and Satori's was packed to bursting. <br/>We booked and were promptly shown to our table. Waitress was super nice and supplied us our glasses and ice for our wine. <br/>Now Satori's is known for their delicious thin based pizzas. But they also have a specials board. Pastas, seafood, steaks all available. <br/>Our party of 3 all had pizzas. They were cooked in a wood fired oven. Thin base and delicious. <br/>Recommended and will go again and again and again

It was a hot summers day, the air was fresh on the sea breeze, and my hunger was not something to be tested. Walking along the bay I discovered a fair variety of choices to make where I could obtain the sustenance I desperately needed. The decision to go to Satori was solely based on how delicious the smells wafting out of its doors were. With crew in hand we sat down to enjoy a selection of exquisitely named pizza's and were thoroughly impressed at the level in which they were created. The thin crusts, the right level and ratio of sauce, toppings, and cheese melted away together to create, as their pizza names imply, a work of art. Satori is definitely a place to return to when I'm next in the Kalk Bay Area.

Went to Satori last night and had a very pleasant evening. The food was gĂČod, the service was also good. Corkage quoted in your review as R30, but we were charged R35. I would recommend it as a good venue.<br/>

This place hey! Whenever my fiancĂ© and I come to Kalk Bay we always come here. Their pizzas and pastas are amazing, the staff very friendly and I love the way they work together as a unit and don't have that mentality of "that's not my table and won't tip me!" Plus they cater for gluten intolerant folks 🙌
Sydney King
If you are looking for delicious pizza or pasta in Kalk Bay, check in here. The food is so yummy and the staff is attentive. Also a great spot to sit outside and do a little bit of people watching.
Amanda Dovey
After a few years of being VERY average it seems in the past few months someone has waved their magic wand and service, food and atmosphere had drastically improved! We had a pizza and one of the specials on the board of line fish and both were excellent. Well worth a visit.
Bellamyjill5
Yummy food - perfect pizzas including build your own options and a large specials board. Delicious desserts too. Friendly and fast service. Great location - just across the road from the ocean.
Erik 'Berni' Mulder
A relaxed setting is what greeted me on a Sunday evening upon visiting Satori. The service was extremely polite and helpful. When an explanation or elaboration was needed during the perusal of the menu or the 'specials board', the service was quick to show off their knowledge of the dishes. The food was great and I look forward to trying more of the other dishes on offer at the next visit, which will certainly take place in the near future.
Teresa Cosentino
We had a great dinner here the other night! Staff were very friendly and helpful. The food was absolutely delicious and very fresh, I had the seafood pasta and it was to die for. Will definitely be back
Irishman
This is definitely a family restaurant. Very relaxed atmosphere and the service was friendly and efficient. I thought the food was average. The pizzas are nice.

I was here a couple of days ago for lunch and, from the start, everything was sub-par. We walked in and asked for a table for two; we were given one next to the open door on a day with a very chilly breeze. When I asked if we could sit at a different table (empty, no "reserved" sign) I was told "It's a four-seater." Five minutes later, two people (also walk-ins like us) were seated at that table (the table is a "four-seater" to me but not to someone else?) <br/><br/>The door admitting the frigid breeze was, eventually, closed but not without a fight. The waitress who seated us (Ms Four-Seater) was adamant that they "have to keep the door open." Only after several requests from several customers did she (reluctantly) shut the door. The place became much more habitable after that.<br/><br/>The food is nothing to write home about. It is adequate. My ravioli remained hot for the duration of the meal, which is always nice. My dining companion had a margherita with salami and the salami was diced rather than sliced in disks - strange, but I guess different places do their pizzas differently. The pizza itself was okay; not great. <br/><br/>"Okay; not great" sums up our entire Satori experience. I don't think we shall be returning.
Foodie008
Cute little place, really enjoyed the vibe and excellent service.<br/>Food wise, I tried the stuffed chicken which was quite good, however needing a bit more flavour. A friend of mine tried the roast pork belly which was quite delicious and something I would've rather chosen over the stuffed chicken.<br/>Two other friends of mine tried the pasta, which was quite disappointing, lacking sauce and flavour.<br/>
Martini
It's a bistro.<br/>Has a nice buzz and was well patronised. <br/>Service was outstanding.<br/>Food prices are on the lowish side as are the wine prices. The wine list is adequate.<br/>The food was good and generally speaking bordered on 4/5 except for the chicken and the dark chocolate mousse dishes - certainly did not look like dark chocolate to me and I thought tasteless.<br/>It is fairly large restaurant and having just one loo was inconvenient and inadequate. <br/><br/>
Brendan Stein
A great, everyday family restaurant with excellent pizzas and friendly service. It's our regular pizza place when in the area. Good prices, okay decor, great food.
Melinda
We had a wonderful lunch at this little spot, great mussels, salad and Bubbly. Their service is great and I would highly recommend popping in anytime.
Richard
Been here twice in parties of 4 and all 8 meals were great exceeding our expectations. I think Satori gets a bit overlooked in favour of some of the trendier restaurants on the strip but I reckon it's up there. Food is interesting, well prepared and attentive service. Had seafood and steak here and all good with interesting variations. Warm and cosy in winter with pizza oven going. Maybe not trendy, but if you're looking for a really good reliable option in Kalk Bay you can safely go to Satori<br/>
@se7en_hoods
My hubs and I visit Satori once a month, it is that good. We really enjoy the food they have on offer, but there is so much more... It is always busy and vibey, it is best to book, if you are taking a crowd and expect to wait if you don't. I like that they don't rush diners and rather turn folk that haven't booked away. In summer you can sit on the pavement and people watch while you eat dinner and in the winter it is has a great and cozy atmosphere. We have taken our kids there, and they are not even slightly daunted by a table for ten... their pizzas are fantastic and there service is personal. They don't just serve pizza. Always ask what is on special, their specials don't always make it onto the boards. Their mussels in white wine, carbonara and pork belly are all highly recommended.
Debbie
Exceptionally good and attentive service, food and company. Pork belly and chicken dish was amazing. Attention to detail in every dish just makes the food more appealing.
Christine Victoria Streit
Came here with our 2 year old and celebrated our anniversary, nice family atmosphere. The staff were fantastic and found a table for us even though they were fully booked, smiles all round! The food was very tasty! If you're in the mood for pasta or pizza, this is the place. Was slightly let down by the dessert, followed by such great main courses, as they were average, but still good. We will definitely be going back!
Deon Louw
Went to Satori last night for a quick dinner. Ordered the pork belly which was absolutely incredible. The portion was of a generous size, the meat perfectly cooked and the beetroot mash was interesting and complimented the dish perfectly. <br/><br/>The hostess was attentive, and ensured we were well looked after.<br/><br/>All in all I had a great evening and I didn't expected such an amazing meat dish from a pizzeria.
Simonesmit
What a great place! The pizza is consistently amazing. The other dishes, like the salads and pork belly is also delicious. The lively ambiance, friendly service and awesome hostess makes this a firm family favourite.
Carla15
Satori is definitely a family favourite. We have been to satori for pizzas countless times. The food has been consistently good and the service is always amazing. Would never get pizza from anywhere else in this area!
KL
The food here is Very Good, bit the wait staff is awful. They aren't  very attentive, and quite rude when asked for a drink refill, or anything extra.  I've been twice and had bad waitstaff both times.
Bradley Schmidt
Satori is a home away from homes. Great pizza and the latest specials are amazing with great variety. Must do spot if you local or on your travels. Pork belly with the house Merlot! Cannot go wrong!
Paul Sainsbury
We struggled to find decent gluten free foods, until stumbling on Satori. Wonderful coffee, amazing gluten free brownies, and really friendly staff. We will definitely be back.
