Review Kung-fu Kitchen - Johannesburg

Little gem. The food is always good and consistent. They're open quite late and they do a special off menu meal for me without hesitation.

Out of the way place with great food for a franchise. Enjoyed the sushi (with rice paper). Take out only...

The Kung Fu master in this Chinese take-away's kitchen truly holds no punches, serving out one dish after the next... PoW PoW PoW ... Kung fu kitchen is now a weekly staple. Thanks for the great food, quick service and being open after 9pm!

BEST CHINESE PLACE IN JOHANNESBURG! They have remained consistent over all the years!!!! I’m a big fan of their springs rolls, chow faan, chow mein and szechaun!!!

Our company treats us to lunch here once a week. The portions are very generous. Quality depends on who is cooking on the day. Mike on the till is excellent!

Affordable tasty take outs of a great quality. They are always quite quick to prepare your order and offer some fantastic dishes. The crispy chicken is a fantastic option! One of my favourite take out spots in Joburg.

For many years we've been popping in to grab take-aways. I only eat sweet and sour pork (which is really good). The rest of the family have been through the whole menu - beef chow faan ,the chicken with cashew nuts , the sushi , spring rolls and bow ties. They love it all. The service is friendly and fast and prices very reasonable.

Wow. I don’t think I’ve ever had better value for money in my life.

Absolutely delicious, tasteful an scrumptious Asian food.

The portions are nice and big, and the prices are great.

I did however order a Vegetable Chow Mein but received a Seafood Chow Faan... not that I complained.

I’ll definitely order from them regularly.

Over the last couple of years I ordered take aways twice. The Chicken Chow Faan is just a heap of bland rice with a few lost pieces of chicken in between with the fried veggies. Today I was encouraged to order from them again. I had the Beef Curry which was slightly better but still lacking quite a bit.

Quite large portions and well priced but not enough for me to recommend this restaurant. There are other similar restaurants with better tasting food.

I have just ordered crispy fried beef from the Parktown North Kung-Fu Kitchen and it is revolting! It is so over cooked and dry that you cannot tell what protein it is. It is vile! I ordered via ubereats and of course cannnot get my money refunded. The person who answered the phone at Kung-Fu Kitchen told me to just throw the meal away, and uber would refund me. Great service thank you! Never again will I order from this restaurant!

If you have a hungover sushi craving and don’t want to spend 1 million dollars, sushi is very fresh and authentic. Think I’d even order it sans hangover.

I've been using UberEats to order from Kung-Fu Kitchen and have done so a few times. The portions are large and well worth the price you pay.

The chow mein and chow faan are my favourites.
Value for money at this restaurant. Large portions for a low price. Food is not bad at all. My best deal is this R17 starter with tofu chunks. I also love the beef chow mein and 🍣 sushi Salmon roses and California rolls

I've been to a Kung-Fu Kitchen before and I was actually rather impressed. It was a Friday afternoon and I had no idea what to have for lunch. I then remembered that there was a Kung-Fu Kitchen up the road from where I work so I decided to give it a go.

I placed my order for a take away chicken chow mein and then tried to pay for it but the card machine was giving issues so I waited about 10 minutes before it eventually started working. While I was waiting, I was a little put off by the amount of flies in the restaurant. It's definitely not something you want to see in a restaurant.

On to the food, the portion was big enough for me to make two meals out of it and it was so reasonable in price. Despite being put off while waiting for my order, the chow mein was actually pretty good. I'm not sure if I'd hurry back based on the fly situation that I experienced!

Worst Chinese take out ever!!!!! The driest most tasteless food I have ever had. When they say crispy, expect dry and tasteless. A total waste of money.

Very disappointed with this meal as I eat it. Ordered by you guys and it took 20min, you would think with 20min you would be getting good food. Boy was I wrong, the miso soup is tasteless like it was straight from one of those dehydrated packets that I used to buy. Secondly the beef chow mein is as pale as it is tasteless. Not impressed at all.

This is a very special place. The store is exquisite and in such good care. I am very thank full and i am excited to visit again soon!

Many happy returns 😊

I have often driven past and seen the sign for Kung Fu Kitchen, so was glad when one of my colleagues suggested we get takeaways for lunch today, as I have always enjoyed the other Kung Fu outlets. We ordered over the phone, and were given a number, our order would be ready in 20 minutes I was informed.

The shop itself is tiny, but I believe it can get quite full during popular times like Sunday evenings etc.

Pricing is good and portions are large. I ordered my usual salmon fashion sandwiches and cali rolls and was impressed with the portion size and quality. The takeaway was ready when we arrived, and payment processed quickly.

We enjoyed our lunch, and I would recommend them to anyone looking for a great Asian or sushi joint in the Parktown North Area.

I can be quite fussy with Chinese take away places but I really enjoyed this branch of Kung-Fu Kitchen. We ordered over the phone and collected, as the place was packed a few weeks back when we walked in and tried to order. The portions were a decent size, reasonably priced and still piping hot by the time we got home. We started with prawn spring rolls which were massive, jam packed full of ingredients and perfectly crispy. The chicken chow mein was flavourful and the chicken wasn't that insipid pale chicken you often find in a Chinese take away. The sweet and sour pork was also good; however the pork was a little tough. The restaurant itself was very clean and well kept, which was a surprise as the outside of the building is a bit run down.

Ordered a ramen noodle chicken take away. Got home to find two containers with different ingredients. Firstly, not ramen noodles... ramen are Chinese wheat noodle these were udon noodle. Secondly, the sauce was overpoweringly rich. Not light and tasty as described in the menu. Highly disappointing. Will not be giving it a second chance.

I feel it's only fair to rate restaurant according to what type of establishment they are. If I were to compare fast food outlets to upmarket eateries Zomato would need negative numbers for the ratings.

For a fast food Chinese spot this isn't bad. It's the better outlet of the other Kung Fu kitchens. I like having plain fried noodles with some vegetable springrolls. At R35 for my meal I am more than happy with what I get. I definitely take value for money into consideration when rating a place.

Service lacks as in any other restaurant. My only major issue is that they take quite long for a fast food restaurant, especially considering how basic my order is. I definitely wouldn't dine in on one of the few tables they have, rather get a take-away.
Smelly Celly
Not bad for a fast food Chinese joint. The portions are big, service is quick, prices are decent. All that being said though, I don't eat Chinese often and when I do, I'd rather go to a fancier sit down establishment a few minutes away.
Daniel Wiggill
Bad Chinese take out... Is what youd expect as you drive past this branch of this long standing franchise.
But you'll be surprised at this parktown north / Park Hurst institution the food is always good
and the sushi is worth the wait.

Sunday night order your take out early cause the. Sushi quee gets very long

But worth it.
This is my go to Take away my place, or rather it was.
The center that it is located in is hard to navigate in and out of due to the take-way being located directly off busy 7th street.
Today when I went to pick up my order the car parking attendant was drunk by the looks of it and got quite aggressive and demanded I buy him food.
When I then told the guy in store about it, he laughed. I think your customers feeling unsafe or uneasy is not a laughing matter?

Maybe I am just a bit angry, I guess this is about the food and the sushi is really good but the service is slow and I wasn't happy this time

Was very disappointed here. We came in on a quiet Sunday evening and ordered a simple Chicken chow mein which took about 20mins to serve, staff were unfriendly and the food was nothing to talk of. Very cheap, wide range of Chinese food and sushi, but the Chow mein was very average

Great little spot for a delicious sushi / Chinese takeout. Portions are always generously sized and food is consistent. They're also really quick and well priced.

Kung Fu kitchen won't be taking the culinary world by storm any time soon, but if a massive, greasy bowl of Chinese food is what you are after, this is about as good as it gets. Very large portion size and very good prices. They were a bit stingy with the prawns in my Chow Mein, but it satisfied the craving for a bowl of chinese food. Excellent value for money!

Open 7 days a week with its cheap and cheerful decor. It's bold Asian flavors are made for any hangover or simple pick me up with most dishes being delish. Chow Mein, Chop Suey and Curries being family staples. Sushi old faithful's are the Combo roll platters, being great quality & value. Somehow piping hot crispy spring rolls find their way onto every order. The beancurd and brown sauce dish is not for the faint heart or weak of stomach... Death by beancurd!! To end it all have a little fun and dip your hand into the giant "Fortune Cookie" jar.
Anja Immelman
I don't even live nearby but we usually
Order here if we are in the mood for take away food. Super cheap considering portion size. Especially the spring rolls!! Order before hand since they can get super busy!!

The Kung-Fu Kitchen in Parktown North is just so affordable and although I have never eaten in, their takeaways are always good.
This past week, I have had a cold and for some reason, the Kung-Fu Kitchen's chicken sweetcorn soup just always makes me feel better!

*Recommendation: Try their beef with oyster sauce paired with their fried noodles or duck chop suey!

This is my favorite place to grab a quick take out! Their meals are unbelievably consistent, tasty and well priced, especially considering how much food you get per portion.

I am a big fan of their Chicken Chow Mein and Chop Suey dishes and their spring rolls are delicious too.

If you're looking for a quick delicious bite to eat that wont break the bank I highly recommend checking this place out! I would also advise calling in before hand and placing your order as they get extremely busy in the evenings, especially on weekends.

Found my little haven... found my favourite chow mein in town... if you want good food definately a place to try out. I still dont like sushi though.
Kyle Singh
I've eaten from here on two separate occasions and tried 4 different dishes and all of them were delicious. The flavour of the chow mein was excellent and the rice perfectly cooked. I would recommend them for great value for money and their generous portion sizes.
Justin Griesel
This is my favourite place to order lunch from. The entire office will order separate items and then we create a Chinese buffet. Everything is good in a cheat day kind of way. Try the deep fried wontons, prawn spring rolls, chicken chow mein, crispy beef, cashew chicken, deep fried prawn, shanghai steak or the angry curry.
David Berry
Went in to get rice to make my own sushi. There was a fly on the salmon, all the staff noticed but nobody did anything. Not on in terms of food safety.

Kung-Foo Kitchen’s food is the best cure for a hung-over. The noodles have just the right amount of oil and flavour! Their sushi is also delicious, I used to be a bit afraid of ordering sushi from them but a friend of mine ordered their fashion sandwiches and they were amazing- the fish to rice ratio is spot on.

I have never sat down and eaten as the ambiance is lacking, the lighting is bad and it seems a bit sad eating at a takeaway restaurant, but it is the perfect place for cheap takeaways, they are always busy.

Definitely not the best chow mein in town, but if you live in the area and don’t feel like paying a fortune then King-Foo kitchen is an okay choice. I order chicken chow mein every single time - they are so generous with their helpings and the food is reasonable fresh.

Great sushi! Quick service too

We popped into Kung-Fu Kitchen for a quick bite to eat on a Sunday evening before the movies. There was really brisk foot traffic for the duration of our eat-in, with a ton of people walking in to collect orders, and several delivery service drivers. A steady stream of customers is normally a good sign, and Kung-Fu Kitchen's popularity is well deserved.

We opted for the new special - vegetarian chow mein, and a more traditional chicken chop suey. Both dishes were quickly prepared, and were suitably presented. The food was relatively fresh, hot and tasty, and considering we had a drink each and a fair sized portion of food for under R100, you can't argue with the price.

You're spoiled for choice when it comes to good, cheap Chinese, and while there's nothing wrong with Kung-Fu Kitchen, there's also little to recommend it. If its close, and you're in the mood for a big plate of chow mein, you can do worse, but you can also probably do better.

Definitely the best Kung Fu kitchen around. The sushi and sushi platters look amazing - will definitely test it out next time......

Good value for money and always the freshest ingredients! (Easy on the the onions)
