Nuno’s seems a bit dark and dodgy from the outside, so I wasn’t too keen on grabbing a bite. But the food was surprisingly delicious.
We ordered the Starter Platter which had a bunch of stuff... the halloumi and prawn cakes were really good, and the trinchado was amazing. The sauce was so tasty, and the meat was nice and tender. I’d definitely be keen to come back and try more of their other food.
Oh and they have really nice and cheap cocktails... it’s definitely a good place to start a party night on the Melville strip.
This is the type of place I would walk past a hundred time and would not go into. Last night I decided to give Nuno's a chance, I was not disappoint.
I moved out of my comfort zone and ordered the Chicken Pasta with Sundried tomatoes and mushroom. It was spectacular, the flavours complimented each other so well and made the dish moreish. The portion served is more than enough for one person maybe even a tiny doggie bag to take home.
You can clearly see the regular visitors there as the staff great them, laugh with them and know exactly what they want. I think once you have found this place you always want to go there.
Nuno's I will be back hungry for more.

Experienced great service and the best trinchado. Went back later the week and it was still excellent. Very reasonably priced so all round good value for money. Good atmosphere.
Another date night in Melville. Wanted s different experience... and we definitely got it. Had a prawn type curry with rice and partner had the baby chicken. The curry had amazing flavour and I couldn't put my fork down. The flavour of the chicken was magnificent and all in all we had a lovely evening.
From the reviews, this seems to be a place you either love or hate! Nuno's, it's a love from me. A classic case of under promise over deliver! Although there is nothing gourmet about the food; it is simple, well priced, served quickly and with a smile.
Good food but not so great service. Had the pizzas and will definitely go back! My dad had the pasta and was also very happy! Huge portions!
Had a lovely lunch in this unassuming and rustic gem. Service was excellent. The Starter Platter was delicious and was actually enough for 3 as a main. The cocktail list is extensive and the execution thereof is brilliant. Unfortunately their extractor fan was broken so kitchen smoke filled the restaurant - but this was apologized for. Would like to return for the incredible Prawn Cakes, but the 1/2kg Peri-Peri prawns were over-seasoned, small and did not come out of the shell easily. A few small improvements to make this little hang-out a stunner. Prices are reasonable and dessert was fab.
Decided to go out for an early supper on a Wednesday night and after walking up and down 7th street we settled on this Mozambican themed establishment. We ordered a Prawn Curry and a Chicken Curry. Both meals were good, and the service was good. It was great to be able to pair the meal with some craft beer. Decent night out.
We were looking for something open today (1st Jan) and this place was luckily open. The food was quite amazing. I had the grilled calamari and rice (absolutely amazeballs), my friend had the line fish with veggies (i had a taste, and also great) and my other friend had their t-bone special (steak done to perfection). All in all, quite a good experience although the service was a bit shady. I'll definitely come back to try other items on the menu!!
I have a soft spot for Nuno's as it was my first Joburg dining experience. It remains a staple outing years later. Outdoor seating is great and always available, and this is a lovely spot for drinks on a warm summer night! I seriously recommend the prawn combo - it's delicious and enormous.

Honestly a 15 out of 5 rating. What a fantastic evening. The food was sublime. The cocktails we so great. This place is affordable and has such a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The service and the management were amazing. We were celebrating a friends birthday and as soon as the manager found out, he brought us a shooter for the birthday girl. There are so few places that I actually enjoy eating at, this is definitely a new one on the list.
A true 5 star experience! It was my birthday and I couldn't imagine a better party venue. I was given a delicious free birthday shot and the service was fantastic in general. Our waitress was amazing. THE FOOD. I have no words. It was honestly the best Portuguese food I've ever had. The sardines, the peri peri prawns, the trinchado- ALL delicious. The peri peri sauce was so amazing we wanted to buy some! Amazing, affordable cocktails too. Definitely recommend this unknown gem.
On a spontaneous family outing to Melville, we tried Nuno's. You know that saying - don't judge a book by it's cover? It applies here. The food was delicious. Portions were generous and the service was great! I was pleasantly surprised.
Nuno's has a great vibe, the music was good and the food was great! It was our first time there and we didn't know what to expect. Awesome!!

This experience was truly something else.
Located in the middle of the cooler part of Melville, Nuno's is a little reminder of Maputo. With seafood and haphazard "decor", this place is just there. You can go if you want, or not. Whatever. But it's so interesting that you will finally go, just to see why it's always so busy.
The service is good and the staff was very efficient. Service is on-time.
I had a margarita, which could have been colder. Otherwise, very well done.
For starters, we kicked into the prawn cakes with a drizzle of lemon (you do the drizzle yourself, by the way - I don't want to misrepresent). The cakes were pretty good.
Also has the prawns in a butter sauce. The sauce was actually really really good. I kept dipping pieces of the Portuguese roll in it and eating them. BAD IDEA because that filled me up very very very quickly. By the time that the mains arrived, it was game over.
I had the prego roll. It was served with a rump steak, which really confused me. Rump is far too thick and because I ordered it medium well, it arrived looking more medium rare. I had to sent it back to the kitchen to get it fried up a little bit more. The Prego sauce was pretty good!
The fish and chips meal that my partner ordered was excellent. I actually had order envy for the very first time in a while.
I'd definitely go back but I'll stick with seafood orders. I can imagine it must be really fun to come here for a laid-back evening with a few friends.
Tucked away in the heart of Melville, my boyfriend introduced to me Nuno's. I was a bit skeptical, as I had never been to a Restaurant there but I was shocked, really great prawns and peri peri chicken! And at reasonable prices! But it's not fine dining so Grab a table on the sidewalk, get your mates and enjoy the good food

Nice little Portuguese spot with amazingly tasty food. Starters are well portioned and flavored really well. Main meals are great and filling. Service and vibe of the place is great and fun. Def a place to bring friends to enjoy a night out with good food and have a couple of drinks.

Nuno's is not fancy.
From the corrugated iron decor to the mismatched furniture and badly-done paintings, you know that you are walking into a place that does not serve sorbet between courses.
Thank heavens for that. Nuno's is comfy, warm, inviting, and friendly. The staff are peripheral but available, the food is good and well-priced, and the portions are for sharing. My partner and I love coming to Nuno's to watch football - the large screens are well-placed and the volume is never too high. We shared a beef trinchado while watching the Arsenal-Newcastle game on Sunday. While it may not be a traditional trinchado, the sauce is creamy and delicious. The hand-cut chips still have their skin on, toasted to a delicious, crispy brown. Their chips are a real drawcard. The trinchado was so delicious that we ordered extra bread rolls to soak up the last of the sauce - now that IS a traditionally Portuguese move.
Cold drinks, good food, no dessert and no unnecessary frills. Sounds like the perfect Sunday afternoon spot to me.
