Review Tataki - Johannesburg

Caitlin Joy Muhle-Hees
Oh my goodness, what a wonderful restaurant. Sat in for the sushi buffet, it's a bit more expensive than the previous menus that I found online. They didn't have on offer some of the drink choices they were advertising and the ones they had on offer were also more expensive. But understandably so given the circumstances. But the food was incredible, tasted fresh, healthy, served within minutes of ordering, the sushi buffet was filled with interesting options. The staff were super friendly, the inside seats were comfortable and the COVID safety was awesome. It felt safe with the inside car parking. The sunset over the highway isn't the prettiest view but the sounds didn't travel so it didn't interfere with our dinner. The overall experience was incredible, definitely will be going back.

I went again to tataki and once again amazing , the service is good the sushi is amazing I would definitly recommend this place. I love the sushi buffet!

This restaurant is quite hidden if you're not looking past monte casino. I am pleased to have discovered it. It was clean and tidy and well organised. I opted for the sushi buffet, which I do not regret. It was well prepared and presented and flavorful. The staff was also really friendly.

You cannot go wrong eating here, sushi is immaculately prepared and so good. Managed sixteen plates for two people. R205 for a buffet to gorge yourself on. This might become a biweekly affair. Ten out of ten for food, service and atmosphere!!!!
Samantha Cheyne
The service is brilliant, the food is amazing and my taste buds were extremely happy😁😁 only reason I didn’t put a fifth star is that the salmon roses sometimes don’t have enough salmon around them and have too much rice. I do understand this is probably due the the all you can eat though. Otherwise it’s thoroughly enjoyable with a divine sushi and Asian cuisine.

As a sushi lover, I’m always skeptical about trying out sushi in places further inland. But this really was so good and I enjoyed every moment of it. We didn’t stay but ordered takeaways. Lovely ladies by the till who told us more about their specials and deals. Now I have a favourite sushi spot when I visit Joburg. A definite must try out!
Georgio
Great place. We had the bottomless sushi for R205. Sushi was fresh, place was clean. Waitress asked if I wanted more soup after my 4th bowl haha.
Jason Bosch
The food at Tataki is superb. Always a great experience and their all you can eat special makes it a great destination to go out and enjoy good food. The service does let them down as I always seem to struggle with the waitron staff. Never seem all to eager assist and it always seems to be a task to help customers. But still worth the visit as the food makes up for the service deficit.

Value for money provided you have the special. If you want to have a few plates it's not value for money. As the portions are small. But with the special it's well worth it. Also don't eat off the train on the counter. Eat fresh via the waiter placing your order.

We have enjoyed our outing to Tataki thoroughly. We bought a voucher beforehand at Hyperli for R199 for 2 people for 32 pieces of sushi. It was easy to redeem the voucher which is a plus point for me. The sushi was really good and the service was excellent. We paired the sushi with a cold bottle of Durbanville Hills Sauvignon Blanc. Perfect! We shall definitely visit them again.

Not impressed with the Eat All You Can Option- my girlfriend and I both got salmon roses (mine being one the eat all you can menu, hers not). Her salmon roses were great whilst mine were very shnoop with the salmon. Felt very ripped off getting different quality, especially considering the Eat All You Can is not cheap.

The sushi was good until 1. The managers/owners/sushi chef takes a customer's cellphone with the plastic gloves on that he is making sushi with and go to change it. Doesn't change the gloves but continues making sushi with then on. 2. He sees a cockroach on the wall were he is making his sushi and kills it with the back of his hand with the same plastic gloves on. He does not change the gloves but continues to put his hands in the container with rice and mixes it to make his next piece of sushi. Needless to say after seeing this I ask for the bill . When the other non Asian sushi chef asks me what's wrong. I explain to him what had just happened, the the culprit starts arguing with me that he changed them. He clearly didn't realise I was watching everything he did after witnessing the first cellphone incident. Will never go back there and I urge anyone who enjoys clear sanitary sushi to cross this place off your list.

We went on a week night and the place was quite full, we waited quite a while for menus, eventually ordered and we had salmon fashion sandwiches to start off with, it was ok, nothing amazing. I had sizzling beef and my fiancé had crispy beef and his food just tasted sweet and the sauce was so overpowering, not even pairing it with the rice worked. My sizzling beef was good. Just not much beef as expected. Not bad. Would go back eventually

Usually loved coming here about 2 years ago but this time it was a bit of a disappointment. Walked in and almost all of the tables hadn’t been cleared (the restaurant was empty) and the menus were all sticky and dirty. The waitress cleaned our table only as we sat down. The sushi tasted old and wasn’t made properly at all. We ordered the buffet and the rest of the orders we just cancelled because it was taking so long, even in an empty restaurant. Other than that we had a very sweet waitress.
Pashnee Naidoo
Ordered takeaways with a few amendments to the order last week. I ordered the Spicy vegetable stir fry with additional tofu and noodles instead of rice. Hubby ordered crispy chicken with noodles. I will be back very soon to try the sushi soon. Food was delicious and all amendments was catered perfectly

So tired of the incompetent staff. Normally use them for OrderIn takeout. Mostly average food. So now they keep getting orders wrong. Missing food. The staff can not understand what you are saying. Ordered crispy beef saying NO CHILLI in the sauce and the crispy beef arrived without sauce.
IT IS INEDIBLE and tastes like charcoal. Have a look at the picture. At first I thought I was looking at some sort of mould. Now we are waiting without being able to eat and who knows what is going to happen? I am so angry at TATAKI. Jessica Notelo

I absolutely adore coming to Tataki for a meal. Waiters are always smiling and happy, food is excellent everything from their honey chicken, duck to the sushi is absolutely brilliant. I will be back, again and again and again.
Nicola Bursnall
They have a sushi buffet that includes salmon roses and one plate of sashimi, amongst others such as soup, spring rolls etc. The sushi tastes great. What more do you want?!

Oh and the service is good too!
Nadia Horne
In Johannesburg it is very difficult to find constantly good sushi that is well priced. Even though the ambience is not the best the sushi is good quality and you get reasonable service mostly.
Deysellydia
Sushi is pretty small compared to other places - personally I was not impressed. Attention should be given to hygiene. Our waitress was fantastic.
Samantha Claire Muller
love everything about this place. The environment is pleasing and comfortable. There is a wide variety of food to choose from. It's amazing!
Maryna Kunneke
Probably one of the worst experiences ever. When we walked in no waiter or anyone attended to us, even the manager standing by the front desk couldn't care less. There was one hell of a noise, service was bad, there were cockroaches crawling around, I found a piece of steelwool in my tempura prawns...I asked to see the health clearance certificate, it was issued in 2010. I don't know how often health inspections should be done but this doesn't seem right. Definitely won't recommend this place and definitely not going back.
Julia
On Sunday me and my mom decided to take a drive from roodepoort to have a sushi buffet at Tataki. What interested me is unlimited plates of salmon and tuna roses, which usually doesn’t usually happen at other sushi buffets. Well, it was really worth it. R165 for a buffet with a different selection of sushi’s and it differs from other places. Very nice, thick portions of salmon/tuna. Will definitely comeback
Nicole Kayley Langsford
Average sushi, with a decent variety. Service was a bit shocking though. While waiting for friends to join us we ordered a bottle of water 3 times from 3 different staff members, which never arrived. We had the sushi buffet, and ordered specific plates throughout the evening which took extremely long to get to our table.
Kayleigh Wolfe-Coote
I enjoyed the sushi. We sat at the belt and it was so interesting to watch them make the sushi. Service was average, but not bad!

We did the buffet and this was all that was left. We had to roll home đŸ·
Daria Chernova
Love the buffet and watching them make the sushi. Which are rather good. Cocktails are great too. I always come here and will continue to. Live the interesting sushi they also make with some of the tempura and fried foods.
The staff is friendly and attentive. And a cosy atmosphere. Just overall always happy.
Caron Mooney
So disappointed on Saturday. We've always had good sushi here. Never particularly enjoyed dining in so we always have takeaways. California platter was dry and horrible. We did wait quite a while and even had a drink but I'm sure it was off the conveyer belt and not freshly made. Someone please tell me that this is an aberration?
Marta Amrozinski
Really disappointed after having lunch here today. I used to come here with friends so often because they served really good sushi. Now, it’s just a let down. The portions are small and lack flavor. There wasn’t a big variety on the conveyor belt. Also, the service was poor and slow.
ZedVee
Very commercial sushi! The sushi is so badly made that all the pieces in one plate are different sizes and filled unevenly! That for me is a down right no no as sushi is an art! The place was tacky and detail was drab! I should have known what I was getting myself into when the menu said all you can eat! It's also outside of monte casino so very depressing at night!
Adrian Ziller
Service is a little slow but the sushi variety is great. They have one of the more pricey "all you can eat" buffets but it also includes a lot of things that other places don't like soup, spring rolls, and sashimi.
Sesh
My go to take out place for sushi, chinese and thai. Prices are reasonable and decent portion sizes. Special requests of extra sauce and chilli always willing accomadated. Food always consistently good and freshly made. Maybe one day I'll sit in, it does get a crowd in the evenings.
Tilen Chetty
Consistent food and friendly staff. The Beef Phad Thai never disappoints and the Sushi platters are fresh and varied. The crispy duck was the only average dish that was experienced.
Jean-Pierre Cronje
Nice sushi, better variety than your Yamada stores. Per plate cheaper than your normal sushi places (most expensive plate is R39).... Salmon roses & Wasabi parcels included in the buffet. Bargain!! Good service, although place wasn't busy.
Anastashia
Went to Tataki last night. The sushi was great. We had the all you can eat sushi and sat at the bar, so it didn't require much assistance but the waitress consistently checked up on us even after it got busy. The manager was also so great! I didn't get his name but I hope he reads this and is made a aware of the good job he's doing. Great service and great sushi. Will be back. P
Nadia Steenkamp
Very lekker sushi..... probably the best I have had in this area. Eat as much as you can @ R155 with a wide variety to choose from. Service is not great though but we had a very sweet waitress Buhle. Don't go here if you in a hurry.... if you have time to chill and just eat sushi untill you fall down.... THIS IS THE PLACE!
Sarvin
The sushi here is amazing. My dad and I usually come here for the eat as much as you can special which is available every day. They are generous with their fish to rice ratio and the flavour is usually quite good. It is usually not very crowded. the staff is extremely welcoming and nice.
I have come here many many times and I will continue to do so

Update: they have started putting a very thin amount of fish to rice ratio and it’s not as pleasant as before.
Carol Hayes
Still the best Sushi restaurant in JHB by far. It has the most variety of Sushi. The most fair prices and absolutely spectacular service. Have never once walked away disapponted. Thank you.
Rrbex Noms
I had a wonder-filling experience here. The sushi buffet is great value for money. Great-tasting and fresh sushi. We ate our hearts out! Our waitress was also friendly and prompt. I love that the buffet doesn't just limit you to sushi - you can get spring rolls and souls too! I had the miso soup, which was great to wash down all the sushi I ate. Certainly keeping this place in my bookmark for the next time I'm visiting in Fourways
Kazaya Jalim
Worst service ever! The manager Alex who we dealt with from the start of our order was exceptionally arrogant and un helpful! Did not even want to take our call let alone help us with regards to our order- don't use any delivery service ( we used order in and the order took 2 hours to get to us - btw we are less then 1 km away!)
Stephen Chapman
Tataki sushi is very good if a bit heavy on the rice. My real issue is that the service was extremely slow. I really don't think it was the waitress's fault though. We ordered the buffet and it's almost as if the waiting staff has been told to take it slow so as to let the sushi served initially settle and therefore fill you up while you sit waiting for your next plate. we were one of maybe 3 tables in the restaurant so there was really no excuse. Some of the plates ordered had to be re ordered because they didn't come. Just really disappointing.
Christine Buchanan
We have been sitting here since 18:15 with the food coming in dribs and drabs since 19:00. I ordered vegetable tempura at 18:30 - it finally arrived just before 20:00. When I asked the waitress why it took so long I was told it takes a long time to cook. Don't lie to me and don't insult my intelligence!
There is zero ambiance - lights are too bright, music too loud. Bah!
Don't worry guys I will not darken your door again. I know when customers are unwelcome.
Jessica Notelo
Geez what a pity. Been coming here for years and the service is slipping so badly it's become an unpleasant experience. Twice I've ordered something off the menu and have been given the incorrect item. When I brought it to the waitress's attention she tried to argue that I ordered incorrectly, when I literally pointed at a picture. The food takes forever and the chefs and waiters just have the worst attitude and don't care at all. Won't be back again in a hurry.
Candice Degotte
Best chicken corn soup in Johannesburg. The chop suey was incredible and the atmosphere is quiet. I really enjoyed the food but the service was lacking. It seemes after we finished our meals, we were not a priority anymore. No more drink offers etc. Eventually we had to get up and find the waitress for the bill.
Nondumiso Nondu Petlele
I was so disappointed with this place. The service was slow I had to look for my waitress the entire time I was there. I got their sushi buffet, and nothing tasted fresh even the tempura prawns tasted like they were fried in old oil. Their tuna rolls were more rice than tuna and by the end of it all I just really wanted to leave.
JC
We had lunch on Sunday with a group of friends at Tataki. We have been regulars for years but the time has come to find another sushi restaurant. We ordered a variety of dishes including sushi buffet. The sashimi portion consists of three slivers of fish and the belt was almost empty for most of the lunch time service. The sushi that we did receive was more rice than anything else and the crispy beef was cold and did not look appetizing. Pumpkin fritters were average, like my gran made them. Nothing was above average and with so many other options available to punters I don't think we'll be back soon.
Roz Roz
I've been to this restaurant several times for the buffet and it's one of my favourite sushi places. The sushi is always good and the waiters are really friendly, service can be slow sometimes but I really don't mind considering how tasty their sushi is. Definitely recommend eating here. Ps. The colour roses are amazing
Marius
Ordered Chicken Chowmein and Beef Teriyaki. Terrible! Bland. No taste. Could have made the same dish 1000% better in my own kitchen and saved the R200! Would never go back!
Juan Jacobs Sheblak
One of the best sushi restaurants in Fourways- freshly made and amazing staff. Definitely value for money- we will be returning to this place.

It seems to be lacking variety though with the sushi..
Lauren Faill
One of the best value for money sushi bars. The sushi is fresh and delicious. Never too crowded but has a good atmosphere. We've never tried anything except the sushi but it's never disappointed.
Chantelle Menary
My fiancé and I went for the sushi buffet and enjoyed it thoroughly, definitely worth the price. The rest of the menu also looks fantastic and we will without a doubt go back to try out the rest.
Tiffany
Went for sushi last night with my best friend and my boyfriend. The food was absolutely delicious! Cannot fault a thing. The service was good too. Our waitress Maria was very sweet. Will certainly be back soon. I also think it's worth mentioning that the sushi buffet is tremendous value for money and worth every penny. 🍣
Carole Craggs
This has to be one of the best spots in Gauteng for all you can eat sushi. There's an interesting variety of sushi with hardly any limitations on what you can have. The sushi is always well made and fresh.
Michelle Lindsay
Good selection of sushi especially if you have the all you can eat buffet. Atmosphere is bright and fresh. Definitely an enjoyable spot to go with friends.
Chisumbu
The best fried sushi I have had, feel like that's the only thing I go here for . It's so yummy and the rest of the food is good too.
Natalie Lazaris
Have been wanting to try this place for a while now. Ordered take away for a cold winter evening, the place was packed. Sushi was fresh and tasty. They have a great variety of interesting sushi. Its close to home too so that's convenient.
Devin Sage
I love this place but it's so let down by its lack of style. I know it's not that kind of restaurant but the very harsh lighting and the lack of ambiance really bring down an otherwise pleasant experience. The sushi is really good and well priced. Love those juices with the jelly stuff in them, can't remember what they are called. Service is good but a bit slow, even when ordering drinks.
Junior
I read the reviews here and I was quite keen to check this place out. But when I got there I was shocked by the lack of service from the staff and the general cleanliness of the place.

The sushi was quite average. I don't think I will be revisiting this restaurant soon.
Buff D
I got some sushi & crispy chicken for a takeaway meal, the sushi was fresh and on the bigger side of portions per piece. The crispy chicken is a sweet teriyaki which I really enjoyed. Really good portion size.
Sarah Connolly
Went for a girls night & was slightly disappointed. I had a chicken Pad Thai and it was made with spaghetti, had hardly any veg & horrible fried chicken. The only thing I liked was the portion size. The service was poor & was a struggle to find waiters. The booths are up too straight & not comfortable. Won't be back
Adrian Kaplan
I ordered a takeaway and was staying in a hotel nearby. I ordered the crispy chicken and at first glance it kind of messes with your head because it's really dark and looks like beef. It's only because it is soaking in delicious Teriyaki sauce! The dish was absolutely superb...soft chicken pieces in a light batter with sesame seeds. Really delicious and a huge portion too!
Kirst GrĂŒnewald
their sushi is absolutely incredible but both times I've been here service has been shocking . our waitress was so uninterested and when we asked if we could order from her she said no we must take what's on the belt , then she avoided us the entire time while we were there. when we asked if we could sit in the sun she said no it wasn't clean we must sit by the belt , when we asked if we can sit outside she said no it isn't clean and we can go later if she decides to clean it . very disappointed as their sushi is so good
Saltnsas
One of the best places in the fourways area for sushi. Fresh and delicious. Service is ok and I have often been forgotten about but I tend to look past it because their food is great and reasonably priced.
Rhonda Hamilton
Based on some of the reviews on Zomato we gave this place a try. The sushi buffet was great value for money but the spring rolls were bland, and my prawn tempura was tasteless. I tried some of the more exotic sushi options and some were great, while others were not. Overall, a nice place but lacked a certain something
Simon Lee
This is a delayed review of this restaurant. Last Sunday, my friends took me to this restaurant for dinner and we all had the sushi buffet.

I must say that this is quite a gem of a restaurant with the food quality surprisingly good. Plus the fact its one of the few ones that offer sashimi (albeit only one servicing) per buffet order.

I think it would be definitely a regular haunt for us!
Biara Le Comber
So it is Friday night and you don't feel like hauling your carcass through Monte. Just around the corner is Tataki. Book for the balcony so you can enjoy the sunset and avoid the usual joburg crowd watching you trying to stuff a whole California roll in your mouth in one go. Stay away from the tempura prawns (old). But Oh My the Udon Noodles are to die for! Prices reasonable and the vibe makes for easy eating.
Anandie
Great sushi as well as other Asian dishes that is well prepared and tasty. The service is good. The deep fried ice cream is a good sweet ending to the night if you have space after the All You Can Eat Buffet.
Gary Greenberg
After visiting here a few times over the past few years I am glad that they have opened up a few new branches. The sushi is good however the vegetarian options of the chinese menu is quite limited for me as it is too common but the food is not bad. The thai curry however does need some work. The spring rolls are great here as they are a bit different to the usual especially veg and coriander. The staff are always very friendly to my friends and me. The service is not bad especially when sitting inside near the kitchen. If you are near Monte pop in for a quick meal.
Debbie Berger
Sushi is always fresh and staff very helpful. R145 and you can eat as much as you want. Out of all the Tataki restaurants this is one of the best. Rice is cooked right.
George
Best in Gauteng The service is great and the Sushi even better
Very clean and I can never get enough of Tataki
Definitely the best sushi restaurant around.
BT
Having spent the last few years in Cape Town I have been blessed to experience some of the finest Sushi in South Africa. However, I have always struggled to find decent sushi in JHB. Tataki is one of the better sushi restaurants I have tried out in the big smoke.

We had the all you can eat option, which provided very good value for money. Sashimi is capped and you are only allowed one plate of it. However, you may have unlimited salmon roses which is very generous.

They have a diverse sushi menu with a couple innovative items on the menu. They also have deep fried sushi which is not often found in JHB.

I would recommend Tataki and will definitely be back to make the most of the all you can eat buffet, once my food baby eases and my sushi cravings deepen again.
Heather Hook
As always - good service, and super fresh sushi. Been here over the last 5 years and they never disappoint. Sushi is mouthwateringly delicious - my salmon roses, tempura prawn california rolls and fashion sandwiches were great - my partner loved the salmon submarines and chicken spring rolls. Worth a visit!
Jackie Botha
Beautiful, fresh, need i say more??? Service always amazing Tataki never disappoints, Staff always so professional and great.Coming back again and again and again😊
Gavin Borragerio
The location doesn't do the restaurant justice. The centre is obscure and most people have passed this on their way to Monte Casino without noticing.

The all-you-can-eat special is worth the R140 - just go hungry and have a love of sushi.
Tay
I'd heard this was a great place for an all to can eat buffet but I was so disappointed. The sushi was poorly prepared for example: my salmon rose was wrapped in unevenly cut salmon that didn't cover all the rice and the tempura rolls were cold abd soggy. The salmon sashimi portion was TINY. Our waiter was very slow in delivering ordered food and forgot half of what I'd ordered. They're very stingy in the fish in the rolls. Also, the rice was poor and very crumbly it did not hold together.
Sushi-Sue
I like this place for a number of reasons- easy to access sushi without looking for parking and they turn freshhhhh sushi. Takeaway vibe outside where you can smoke, booths and sushi train inside. And friendly staff. Plus you can be a bum and listen to the live band from Mon petit Throbb next door #whaat #whaaat
Charne Captain Van Niekerk
This is such an amazing place, sushi was fresh and tasted amazing. everything about this place is worth seeing. the staff are friendly and quick i really would recommend this place to anybody who loves sushi. my only problem was that i couldn't stay longer. :)
Cassi Ozen
Hidden in a center just across the way from Monte Casino. Great sushi spot! They also do a mix of all asian cuisine - chinese and thai included. their buffet/all you can eat is well priced and allows you to order one portion of sashimi or prawn tempura. Best of all unlimited salmon and tuna roses! The angel maki are outstanding! The service was excellent!
Ayrton Pinto
I like to think of myself as a sushi enthusiast and Tataki is definitely my number 1. From the great value of the buffet to the delicacy of the sushi itself Tataki fulfils every point on my sushi restaurant wishlist.

You might ask why I have marked it down. Well that is purely due to location. You look out over a road and it isn't the best but even that is not so detracting.

Highly suggested for nights out with family and friends and the buffet even makes it affordable for students.

Simply brilliant
Jonathan McCallum
This is our go-to sushi spot. Great sushi, chilled ambience and decent prices. The all-you-can-eat option is really great as it includes a plate of sashimi or tempura prawns
Brian
Greatly varied menu in a very nice environment. Service was inexperienced and the Teriyaki beef sauce was too thick and powerful. The meat was well cooked and the sushi cucumber & salmon hand role well prepared. Prices are reasonable including a good wine list.
Amy Lara Baxter
Tataki is tucked away and really does it no justice! You can eat some of the best sushi here on the ever so famous conveyer belt display!

The sushi is my favourite here, whether I stop in for a plate or 2 or indulge in the all you can eat option. The prices are reasonable and a great place for friends to meet.

Decor is simple but all you need. The focus is food. And great sushi at that!

Definitely a place you should go!
Lulu
Really enjoyable experience, great assortment of sushi to choose from, buffet great value at R145, excellent service (Kenny was fantastic).
Sharri Van Zyl
I love this place! We go quite regularly for a sushi buffet! Fantastic pricing and some of the most unique sushi I have come across to date! The staff can be unfriendly at times but I think it is mostly due to language barriers.
Katelyn
This place makes quite a nice range of different (than the usual) sushi. Loads of filling and not just piles or rice, which is a nice change from other sushi buffet restaurants. The buffet was very worth it. We didn't get to try all of the plates we wanted to, as the variety is fantastic and large. We will definitely have to go back to try the rest. Also, the service was excellent and the vibe was awesome.
Clarissa Blanckenberg
Super average. I didn't even realize until right now that sushi could taste stale. Another disappointing flavor was the rock hard tempura, what a pity! Feel like sushi should be a treat, but that was far from it!
Kyle Carlos De Sousa
worst sushi in the world hey took 2 couples out for dinner and we basically eat rice for 30 minutes, I don't mind paying for a good meal, but left the restaurant upset, bad vibe and horrible feeling in my stomach I will rather do my home work now for the next encounter with sushi
AD
Good value 'eat as much as you like' sushi bar when then craving strikes. Buffet option includes several sushi 'dishes' off the menu. Solid favorite.
Emma Juliet Wilson
Delicious and fresh sushi. Always such a great experience. Best sushi place in Johannesburg. Such different variations of sushi. Something for everyone
Lauras World
We popped in here yesterday to see the famed Tataki Oriental Cuisine's 'EAT AS MUCH AS YOU CAN' Sushi Buffet Special for R139pp and were not disappointed.

This is one of those specials where I looked for a catch, and was pleasantly suprised not to find one! It is available every single day in the evenings between 5pm and 9:30pm and the only exceptions are that you are allowed to order only one (1) portion of salmon or tuna sashimi per person (and no takeaways obviously).

After chatting to the waiter, we then learnt that their 'Eat as much as you can' record is currently at 29 plates so I will definitely be popping in again soon with friends, and even daring a few foodie friends to beat this record!

*Recommendation: (Hidden gem, especially when your budget is tight and you are craving sushi) I recommend visiting this spot with a big group of friends for one of their incredibly priced sushi specials.
Sven Leisegang
A couple of us went for a lunch-time sushi buffet. The menu looked good, and the ambiance was fine.
Unfortunately, that is where it ended. We ordered three portions of salmon sashimi that just never arrived in our sitting, as well as a few other menu items.

The salmon roses were also possibly the worst I've had at any sushi establishment in Joburg, as they were 90% rice, with a thin sliver of salmon that didn't even cover the rice itself.

This is unfortunate, as I did have one or two pieces of sushi that really were enjoyable, and the hand-rolls were good too.
Amy Bell
Enjoy their sushi, the service is speedy and great always server with a smile. Enjoyed all their food thoroughly, especially the sushi which is not rice heavy and experimental. Would definitely recommend to friends!
Michael Lotter
Lunch at Tataki today was very good. Sashimi was excellent and very fresh. Salmon skin Maki is a must try on the menu. I think I prefer Tataki as a lunch venue, rather than a dinner destination
Samantha Gabriel
I love eating at this restaurant - we are regulars and the staff know us by now. I never have to wait to be served and the sushi is delicious.
April Gibb
I had the chicken spring rolls and sweet and sour pork. Both dishes were equally tasteless. The sweet and sour pork comprised pork pieces, rice and cheap off-the-shelf sweet and sour sauce. Sadly, not a vegetable in sight in the pork dish - apart from the tired looking boiled and chopped carrot garnish.
Ryan Smit
Not very good sushi compared to most places in Joburg. Also quite expensive.
Fawn Rogers
This little sushi place is right down the road from me so I may be a bit biased towards it. I think the decor is great, very Japanese with a modern twist. The all you can eat sushi option is a must. I always sit at the sushi bar and grab whatever comes along. There's a great variety on the bar and the chefs are always willing to make you something that you can't find already prepared for the bar. The sushi is always good, it may not be as adventurous as other places I've been to but it's fresh and tasty. I think this is a great spot to take a friend or two for a casual delicious lunch or dinner.
Justin Du Plessis
Dinner for two, fast friendly service, my food was prawns and fish served hot with a lovely creamy lemon butter sauce, the prawns were crisp and tasty too. The other meal at the table was also done to perfection, it was the kingclip. Overall the presentation and speed of service was fantastic, the Manageress Charity is very Profesional, friendly and helpful. The coffee is always tops, a lovely med roast, with lots of flavor, never too strong or burnt.
Lisa Pi
We went there for dinner with friends, the vibe was good, bustling and the sushi was average.
We had the all you can eat buffet, the variety of sushi circulating was minimal however we could choose any sushi on their buffet menu to be made and the variety is grande with some interesting and different dishes to choose from. Definitely the best buffet style sushi i have had and i would recommend going there.
The waitresses were friendly.

Sushi at its best

Really great selection of reasonably authentic Japanese sushi and related cuisine. For a set price of R129 you get an unlimited supply from the belt - a real bargain if you've got a healthy appetite. I had nine plates that at an average of over R20 each meant I really got my money's worth.

Some standards with some unusual (for me) combinations at a really good level of quality made for a seriously full and happy tummy.

My wife doesn't do raw, so she started with a tempura platter - couple of prawns and a whole lot of battered veggies. Very enjoyable.
Unfortunately the sweet and sour pork was very poor. Pork in batter, some dipping sauce and some boiled rice - don't order this.

Besides the wife had my 19 year old son with some of his varsity buddies and my 17 year old daughter (her birthday) with four of her girl friends. All of them loved it.

In summary, with the exception of one dish, this place is well worth the visit and I will be back
