Amazing pizzas and drink specials! Music selection could be better but the overall vibe was very nice and the waiter was great

Was there for 3 consecutive days, had spare ribs and fries, beef burger and fries alongside my Windhoek Lager. Had a great great experience and will definitely come back whenever I'm in Joburg. Great service by Gracious.

Great vibe, great people, great food.

We had the steak special, and the two-pizza special... both were awesome. The prices were very reasonable, while the service was impeccable and very refreshing, especially compared to the pathetic service I'm used to getting these days. Will highly recommend them, and intend returning very soon!

These are their R129 Nachos.. Very small portion.. Very mediocre taste.. Underwhelming

They were open on the 24th of December which was nice. Our waitress was very friendly and service was quick.

Great place to have a few drinks but they need to arrange more seating. Loads of wasted space inside. It's not safe to have seating outside past the fence, people can grab your phone or wallet and run off. I don't want to have to watch my belongings like a hawk while trying to have a good time.

Nice modern style pub - for a younger crowd but fills up very late ant night as the night cap venue - usually one of the last to close i the area 🤪

Half price cocktails and half price shots on Saturday here are a must. Super friendly manager and staff. I hadn't even planned on eating here, but as soon as I saw someone else's chow, I was sold.

The experience, the vibe, the atmosphere is truly engaging especially after a long day's work. A good place to go have a drink... Or 3L draughts... Your pick. There are also hookah pipes available for rental although service was a bit slower than expected, even after considering how packed it was.

A surprise find. I felt a little ill-at-ease, however this was quickly dispelled by the time I was seated. There was a particularly pleasant waitress who was caring, attentive and charming. She gave me two options to sit which were near to power points. (for my laptop). I had not had spare ribs for years, so I ordered them. Their smallest option was HUGE!! My pleasant waitress smiled at me benignly... Yes, I'll be back!

It was a bit dead earlier in the year, but it's back in full swing!

Amazing staff! Super double triple awesome owner, great ambience, food is divine. Love this place... Keep it up Terence. Did I say I love this place ❤❤❤❤ I love this place

How is this place still open??? Absolutely the worst restaurant I've ever been to. Try to extort and intimidate you. Run by a bunch of unruly savage hooligans. Never ever will be back ďż˝

Well...what a let down! Burger was the worst I'd had in ages. Full of boney gristle and I couldn't finish it. Sat in a non smoking section which made no difference as the smoke poured in. Just yuk!

The vibe is amazing, but the food is average and over priced.

The food was terrible. We ordered Eisbein and we got a Dried out & Overcooked Knuckle, no Sour Kraut and Bottled Apple Sauce.

The food was awesome and Sabina's service was just mind blowing wonderful.

The food is a bit expensive, but nothing amazing. Waiters is slow, and not friendly.

Came here for drinks with some friends. Its a lively spot ,with a great vibe.

There was a half price cocktail special and we definitely took advantage of that . We didn’t eat , so I can’t comment on the food . They rent out hubbly vases as well . The service considering how busy it was ,was great . My personal highlight of this place is their jukebox . You can change the atmosphere with your music choice and it’s interesting to listen to other patrons music choices .

A decent spot ,especially ideal for sundowners .

Unimpressed! Extremely average food, poor service and a shocking attitude from the owner. This restaurant is lucky to be in such a great location, there's so much potential for this place.

Service was quite slow and rather shoddy. The food was not bad at all but the entire experience could’ve been made better with better service.

I was bluntly refused entry because I wasn’t 23, but 18. I know for a fact that there were people younger than 23 that had been granted entry to the establishment, yet ***I*** wasn’t old enough.
Michaela
When we showed up they asked for our ID’s and we obliged, then they said no under 21’s, and when we looked like we would argue they changed their story to no under 23’s. It’s really disappointing that an establishment would show us away based on the way we look. We know for a fact that people younger than 18 were sitting inside, and they had no problem getting in.

Always a pleasant experience! Relaxed environment, hubbly always available (make your own though) and an overall very chilled experience. The food is good, avoid the burgers, and the portions are generous. I would definitely recommend this place!

This place has a very relaxing vibe. It has a jukebox system so if the music sucks we can all sort of see which table has the worst taste in music. I had never heard of this place before yesterday, which is a shame. I just ordered nachos and a Long Island while I was here. The Long Island was good and the nachos delicious. It's a pity the nacho portions aren't very generous. I love how the salsa was in the nachos and chips and then covered with cheese. It was very different to what I was use to. Loved my waitress, she was very kind and patient. Scrooge isn't my regular type of hangout spot, but change is needed now and then. It's a very student friendly place which is nice because students don't really have places to hang out with.

Greendside has always just had this "air" about it, it's a mix culture between the 20's...30's and the 40's....even above.
Scrooge blends it all!
They have specials everyday ...enough to keep you coming back for more, special or not.
The staff are always so happy to see you and so willing to make you comfortable.

I only had the chicken burger there and requested a cheese topping, it is absolute value for money.
The onion rings and mash is really something else.
Music is a juke box with a fantastic selection.

For just a chill hang out whilst deciding on where to go...If you leave, Scrooge Greendside is the place.

Tried this for the first time last week and I'm so glad that I did. The food portions are generous, as are the cocktails (the half price specials are great!). I had the mushroom starter which I really enjoyed, although it could have used a touch of salt. Best of all was the service received. Worth a visit :)

Had a delicious dinner with my boyfriend and friend. I had the chicken schnitzel,, was amazing and the boys had Eisbein! Their Eisbein's were massive and they both loved them! Has a cool vibe :)

Haven't been to Greenside in the longest time because all of our favourite spots were replaced with hipster joints. I met some friends here tonight and it was actually quite nice. We just had drinks and my friends said the cocktails were really nice. We also saw that people rented hookah pipes, which is a nice touch for the smokers.

Wow, quite a spot. It's a drinking hole that serves food, but possibly shouldn't.
Cheap...and not cheerful surrounds. But that's the concept, so fair enough. What isn't the concept is the death metal background music, the broken chairs, the indoor smoking, the filthy glasses...or the shocking food.
The salad, oddly, was ok. The service was passable. Prices are cheaper than the many better options...but you won't care. The terrible food isn't worth it. Overall, if you're looking for a meal, re-consider, this is an 'avoid at all costs' non-destination.

Had a private function here for my bday days after it opened.

Terence and his team were flawless!
The food came in a timeous manner, and it was delicious! (We had a set menu of steak, eisbien etc...)

My 50+ guests raved about the food, and I couldn't be happier because it didn't burn a hole in my pocket.

The staff were energetic and always willing to help.
The bar was working like a well oiled machine and the beers were cold.

I'd highly recommend going to Scrooge for some grub and a drink or 5 with friends.
Quality of the food was really good; but the bistro decor and the food didn't match the grungy vibe and music... Will be back to try it during the day and see if the vibe is more in line with the feel of the place

Being a fan of the Scrooge at Brightwater Commons, I have been wanting to try the Greenside branch for a while.

We grabbed some take aways from here. The only thing I have ever eaten here is the spare ribs and again than is what we opted for.

The quality is great if you are looking for pub food. The restaurant is neater than the Brightwater store and it looks way more inviting too.

The ribs never disappoint and the prices are great for the size of the portions.

Recommend it to anyone looking for pub grub, without the dirty pub facilities.

My girlfriend and I had a great time here. I'm actually shocked to see the bad reviews, as I had one of the best steaks I've had in ages and my girlfriend really enjoyed her prawns.

The service was good and I was pleased with the bill.

Goodness me, what a disappointment.

I was so excited to try the newly-opened spot in Greenside. The brand new hubblies on the bar counter enticed me even more!

I'd like to start off by saying that if you are going to offer hubblies on your menu for R80, please make sure you a) train your staff on how to properly make them and b) invest in flavours that actually appeal to a wider variety of people (MINT ATLEAST!) and coals that don't burn the whole head after five minutes after smoking!

Secondly. The one dish I ordered, a starter portion of calamari, arrived close to an HOUR after I placed the order. The waiters are few and far between, visiting your table every half an hour, if you're lucky.

The FORTY NINE rand calamari consisted of eight rings! Eight! With a helpless looking leaf of parsley on the side! I felt robbed.
The R45 steak, mash and veggies special that our neighbouring table ordered was a far more generous portion, which I couldn't seem to understand.

Needless to say, I won't be visiting again anytime in the near future. I think I'd rather settle with the dark and dingy corner tables at Jounieh Cafe down the road, for now, where I know I'll atleast get a smokable hubbly and a meal worth paying for!

THE GREENSIDE PROJECT.
Having taken over the premises of the defunct Mama's Shebeen, this version of Scrooge has been open for only a few days. We had the Rib and Wings combo, and the pork schnitzel. Trying to overlook the disintegrating cutlery and rusted tomato sauce bottle lid, and a lot of the other grubbiness, we hesitantly launched into our grossly over cooked meals. This is not a place for a meal, unless and until overindulgence in the cocktail and beer offering drives you to it. This is a pub of no real value. Maybe the weekend throngs consuming the beverage offerings will enhance an otherwise dismal experience. No go area.
