This place has food that brings me back every time. Service is good but even if it was bad the food is good enough to make it a gem of joburg. Feels like Lisboa away from the tourist trails, eating with the locals.
Often find myself returning to this little restaurant, but never sure what to expect. Service is always excellent, ambience unpredictable but usually vibrant, food always very affordable and edible but quality varies. Last night, however, I had the best espetado and chips imaginable and my friend a superb chicken peri-peri for an unbelievably good price, served by one of the best waitresses I've come across in years. In addition, a bottle of Beyerskloof pinotage was marked up by less than 50%. The entire experience was faultless.
It is the best food in the world .the food is to die for the chicken is tastey and delicious and ❤the service is so friendly the design is like madeira it's self
This is one of those hidden gems - really good, down to earth food at a good price with good, friendly service. We'll definitely be back soon!
So second time back after nearly two months and I have to say so much better this time around
Had the chourico and calamari starter and then the lamb chops as a main
Food was outstanding and service was excellent
Originally I had a 3.5 for this place but after yesterday it's upped to a 4.0
Well done Tasca I'll def come back for more
Keep up the good work
Good quality food at reasonable prices. Their daily specials are value for money and service at this restaurant is exceptional. I've had their prawns twice and will definitely be back to try other menu items. Although located in an odd spot, Tasca is well worth a visit.
Food 4/5
Service 4/5
Ambience 3/5
A good Portuguese restaurant hidden away in the suburbs. Ideal if you are not in a rush and prepared to take in the ambiance. Chicken and fish dishes a firm favourite. Konichiwa
Great authentic Portuguese food!
The resturant itself reminds me of sitting in a caffe in the countryside of Portugal.
The food is delicious and the staff are super friendly.
Be still my beating heart. These are the little gems that made me start reviewing in the first place. If you've read my reviews in the past, you will realize, I love a good beer, I love a clean place to eat, I love good service and the experience needs to be worth the money I'm spending. That being said, when you finally reach Tasca Dos Amigos you will experience all of the above. It's not untidy but rather Rustic. Quick hint, ask for Sam... she has a sense of humour and she brought food on time, always asked how we doing and wasn't scared to crack a smile. Love it love it love it. Yes, it's in Fairlands, yes it might not be mainstream but yes you should drive out of your way to get there. It's not fine dining, it's not flashy but a good meal out is more than that.... it's about how you feel when you leave, and if it's not... your a snob. Boomshakalaka....
There are hidden gems in Joburg and Tasca dos Amigos is definitely one of them. No-frills attached. It relies on the pillars of good restauranteering: great food, friendly service, and an authentic vibe. (It is a pity that they are not open on a Sunday).
I rate the peri-peri Chicken at No2 in Johannesburg.
One of our favourite places to go... food is always good and the atmosphere and service is fantastic! it is always a satisfying experience. :)
Rustic Portuguese restaurant with a relaxed vibe and friendly waitresses. Good food made with love. Portions are generous and prices are reasonable.
My neighborhood joint , everybody in the area just calls it the " porra " . Rustic , unpretentious venue , the food is the real highlight . Big portions , well priced . The chips is old skool cool , chicken , espetada and burgers are great . Great value for money and always a good crowd .
I have been visiting Tasca since the day it opened . It may not look like much from the outside, but the real reason we keep going back is for the food.
They offer generous portions at good prices and it's always good. The Beef Espetada is a must, I would also recommend the Peri-Peri Chicken and Caldo Verde. (This is a traditional Portuguese soup with kale & chourico. It might sound strange, but worth a try) I also love the Milho Fritos if you looking for an alternative to fries with you meal. Be sure to try a 2M Beer or a Jug of R&R .
You will always be sure to get service with a smile.
Fantastic as always. Huge perfectly cooked portions at honest prices. Everything is made with care and is delicious and the service staff love their jobs, which shows in their friendly smiles and banter. I've eaten their over 50 times and haven't had a bad meal. Go hungry and leave very satisfied. This is the perfect place to entertain friends without feeling like eyes are watching you and you can be as loud as you want.
What a hidden gem! I really love this place. The atmosphere is great and the decor of the place gives it a nice character. Service is friendly and the food is AMAZING! The portions are huge, if you're not extremely hungry, 2 starters can fill you just fine. I had the caldo verde soup which was delicious. The Portuguese steak was also very tasty, with creamy spinach. And I would strongly recommend skipping the chips and having milho frito as a side. They are done just right!
This is an extremely rustic restaurant hidden in a corner of fairlands. There is absolutely nothing pretentious about it. I was hugely apprehensive on first impressions. However the food was outstanding. The espatada were amazing, yip I like my meat rare and that's exactly what I got. Spiced beautifully. I'm not impressed with the chips but the side of veggies made up for the shortfall. The staff are young and try their best. A special thank you to my dinning buddy for introducing me to a place I would never go.
Portuguese homestyle cooking done just right! My father introduced me to this place and now we eat here once a month. This is our neighborhood's hidden gem and it is always full of locals! Come here for hearty-big-portioned-delicious-classic-portuguese-flavoured dishes. The menu covers the classics: chicken, pregos, trinchado, espetada and seafood. Our favourite is the mild Half Chicken and Veg - the half chicken is really a massive portion actually all of their portions are very generous. I love that all of the waitress are students from the neighborhood. The service is good, if its gets very busy you will experience a bit of a wait but it is forgiven when you see how frantically the staff are running around. Whenever we are too lazy to cook dinner we stop in here and eat ourselves into a food coma. As long as they keep the quality and portion size good we will not stop eating here.
Delicious Pregos. Really enjoy the rustic atmosphere , reminds me of the bars in Mozam. Fast service and One of the few places that sell Tipo Tinto! 🍷
How have I not yet written a review of my favourite restaurant? This place is awesome. Twice we have gone there for lunch and ended up having dinner as well. Very simple and almost rustic. Magic food. Great R&R and all other drinks. Service with a huge smile by all the waitresses. Highly recommended.
What a lovely experience! The food was delicious and the service friendly and efficient. Best Portuguese chicken served with a montain of proper chips and the Espetada was also great. Excellent value for money. The wine list is small, but you can bring your own (corkage R30). Will go back often.
Easily say the best restaurant in JHB. All the food is excellent, and you get value for money. Burgers are massive and delicious, Steaks are great, Prawns fantastic.
Chicken livers are made in a real porra way and taste excellent.
Will go back any time.
Staff are friendly and well mannered.
Restaurant it self feels like you are sitting in Mozambique.
No nonsense and unpretentious Portuguese restaurant. Good food and good value. Went there on Saturday for lunch and the espetada special was a no brainer. Tasty and cooked as requested and for me, the milho frito was the best I have ever had.
Good food, great service really enjoyed. Wine is good and portions really big. Relaxed ambiance. The service is really great. Thank you from Dubai
Good food. Friendly service. You feel right at home as soon as you set foot in there. Go hungry because I couldn't finish my ribs. Can't wait to try the rest of their menu. You struggle to get paces like this and I'm so glad I found them.
Great food, great service, great prices! The setting is exactly how I like my Portuguese restaurants to be... Chickens& the Portuguese flag colours everywhere! They have daily specials too. A wonderful place to gather with friends and family and have a relaxed, festive, fun time out.
Ah this is much better..I have a range of excuses for stopping in..traffic, load shedding, prawn special, oh look there's a car we recognise....
But no excuses required when I get great food and great service each and every time I am here. From espetada to prawns ( and bottles of quaffable wine) to calamari and fillet, I love every dish on the menu.
There are two types of high ratings. Those for restaurants that charge lots of money for a little bit of food but make you feel special. Those reviews are pretentious and are just made because they charge you lots of money.
Then there is the high rating for a damn fine, good quality, great service establishment. This is one of those ratings.
Tasca is amazing! Service is good, the food is fantastic and is a home away from home for anyone in the area. Don't expect a five-star setting but then don;t expect five-star prices either.
Tasca is a spot where you go to laugh, eat great food and have a genuine good time.
This is a real hidden gem.
Situated behind a fish and chips shop, expect some amazing food at a great price.
Service is always with a smile and we are yet to experience a bad meal.
Only downfall is the smoking policy.
Friendly Portuguese resturant and excellent food. Be carful of the chilli sauce And the tables wobble. Bat chips in Jhb
Wonderful food...my fourth time...no nonscence just great food every time. Thank you. Would like to think that more people should know about this amazing just great food place. Highly recommended.
Surely the Fairland community can help this local place to stay alive? There arent many "local" family restaurants left. It's not what it used to be ie a total bar.
The food is still excellent and the staff, Zenobia and Ashley, are doing their utmost. Louis would hate to see it close after so long.
Let's be a community and help our local out in every aspect
Really had a great night out. Casual atmosphere. We had a large party.
The food was great. Not one person complained about the food. Everyone really enjoyed themselves.
I had a Portuguese steak. 500g of tender beef.
Our waitress Jess was really great and looked after us all. Thanks Jess.
Well recommended.
Great waiters. Great food (especially the ribs!). Great party atmosphere. It's a nice, rustic, comfortable place to chill with friends. Simple seating and decor.
GREAT food hidden on the Suburbs of Fairlands area.
Food took a bit long to arrive but was worth the wait. Nice size portions and good value.
Food quality was fantastic the best prawns and calamari. will debility go back and refer people there. The waiters and floor staff was so professional and friendly making the customer feel like the king. Would go back over and over again. the beer the food the vibe and people are awesome.
Keep up the good work
Awesome experience, very traditional need more places like these.🤩🤩
It's a little run down and beverage stock very low, but food was good as always.
Great restaurant with a great vibe and the food was excellent, waitress was efficient and friendly and we watched the Springboks vs Wales first test and we won so it was a good evening. We had the Prawns mains and the Beef Enchiladas, very very good.
The food is amazing!! Portion sizes are more than enough for an average eater! We did wait a while before we got our food but we were also a large group of 16! Next time we'll definitely order ahead! Good place for a work lunch or family/friends outing
Great food, excellent staff service.
Food is well priced
We usually eat at Tasca Dos Amigos when we are celebrating our grieving something. We love the Portuguese food. For the first time, I bought take-aways from Polyanna, the attached fish and chips shop. Definitely worthwhile. So much that I actually forgot to take a photo.
