Excellent prawns done just right. Most seafood places always overcook their prawns. So a gentle reminder to the waiter to ask chef not to overdo prawns goes a long way to ensure your prawns are just right. Feta is salad was very salty. Pls check up on this. The walls look bit bare so would look a lot better with more decor.

The sea food was made to perfect, fresh and the service was very good. It's always a great idea to have lunch or dinner there.
The atmosphere is lovely.
Our waiter Vusi was great, he took our order correctly, drinks were brought to us before the food arrived and the wait for the food was not even that long.
I had ordered platter for 1 and the food is exceptional.

This used to be a local hangout when I lived in Johannesburg so it was wonderful to return & find it still running.
I loved it. The food was great, the service was friendly & the whole experience was just wonderful. It’s a pity that they haven’t been able to grow internationally like the other South African franchise - Nando’s because this is good enough to be successful anywhere in the world.
I will return & for a great casual meal it’s truly terrific.

I always get the platter for 1 or 2, and each time the food is exceptional. They never miss with the flavors. Their staff are soooo friendly and helpful. They make dining there great. Their fried sushi is also lovely. It is now my fav spot :)

My first time visit and had the cajun hake and creamy spinach and butternut. I was very impressed with the fish. On the other hand, the vegetable was frozen and therefore had a watery taste. Lindi was extremely accommodating and understanding. She compensated us with a new meal with substituted sides. Our waiter was very friendly. Wonderful customer service!

Benjamin took my order and never turned me down. He had it waiting for me. Everything was done perfect. For such a busy time of the year. Not bad at all. Good food, it does get busy but the staff manage to still get you what you need right away, food is always good, usually get the platter for one, which has everything you need on it if you are hungry and doesn't really cost alot of money, they make really good salads and arnt stingy with portions sizes... They are friendly and on the ball with things... Ocean basket has great specials at times like the hake and chips for R25 that was really tasty, also very nice sushi. Large verity to choose form, all fresh and clean, great packed to perfection

This is one of the better Ocean Baskets in Jhb.<br/>I've been here many times and always leave satisfied.<br/><br/>Quite busy over weekends and public holidays but staff are are always attentive and friendly.<br/>

Eastgate Shopping Centre Ocean never ceases to hold the Ocean Basket Standards, although always busy. I always test their fish and chips, grilled!!!I love the new takeway boxes which are not longer polystyrene. There recently has been a slight price hike but the quality vs price compared to other seafood restaurants if still quality for money.

Absolutely horrendous. Food took a while but when it arrived it was okay really average at its best. What really brought things down was the service. Waiters were shocking in every sense of the word. Worst experience I have had in years. Real disappointment.

It had been ages since we last ate at Ocean Basket so we thought of going there for some form of throwback. The service was great, our waiter Elvis was very helpful and all our orders were as we wanted. <br/><br/>We ordered two dishes. The first waa the Prawn and Fish platter, she really enjoyed her Hake and loved the rice, the chips, though didn't seem fresh the prawns had a bit too much salt, which was off-putting, because without the minor issues with the two the platter would have been lovely. <br/><br/>The second dish was the Pick of the day which I enjoyed simply cause it was food into my mouth but the prawns were quite salty and did not seem very fresh. The chips did not seem fresh as well.

By far the worst Ocean Basket I have been too. All the orders were wrong. The fish and chips had prawn parts in it. The ice cream was sour. When we sent our dessert back, the same dessert came back on a new plate. They thought we wouldn't notice. The manager was so inefficient. The waiter was very friendly and tried but most of it was out of his control.

Great value food, we always take the kids for fish and chips and enjoy a glass of white wine ourselves, pleasant vibe and service and colouring in to keep the kids occupied, my hubby loves the fact he can watch the sport if there is a game on

Had a majorly stressful day and decided I need a fix of Ocean Basket for supper . Cant complain about a thing , our waiter Gift was fantastic , always on the ball , we never had to look for him once . <br/>I had the Platter for 1 while the BF had the Prawn Special , both were divine ! <br/>For a franchise this place is great , always good consistent food . <br/><br/>Will be back and next time I think for a Sushi Platter !

I had lunch here this afternoon and was very disappointed. The service was quite slow even though the restaurant wasn't full. I shared the two way platter with Tyler Cleeve and it was well below average. I have had fish and chips here before which were good but if you are looking to have good sushi I wouldn't recommend it.

This Ocean Basket is very average. The service is slow as it took quite a while to get our meal despite it not being very full. We ordered the two way platter which was badly plated and the sushi wasn't fresh. I wasn't very impressed.

Not a bad branch and also quite busy. Sadly I still think none of them can top emperor's palace. The prawns and fish come close but not the calamari.

Anniversary night and we got a really good service from the restaurant. My husbands 1st time eating sea food, and what could be a better because yes he is sold he loved it. staff was friendly, good ambiance I must say. Like most chains you get a pretty average meal with good service.<br/>I ordered the Grilled Hake special and a salad. You get a good portion for the cost but the taste is pretty average.<br/>I went with a few family members and most ordered the Calamari, some grilled and others fried with the batter, all enjoyed their meals. Also the sushi that was ordered was fresh and enjoyed.<br/>We were all there just for a light meal so no dessert so can't comment on that unfortunately.

The ocean basket as usual is a good place for a quick seafood dish.The free starter itself is very filling.The king klip I ordered was well grilled and the peri peri sauce is a good combination.The restaurant is well kept apart from dim lights.

I don't know why they didn't move to the upstairs restaurant area next to the food court. A good location would have made this one of the best ocean basket's around. The food is good. The waiters are friendly and efficient. But sitting in is average - not good but not bad, just bleh. Eastgate gets a strange mix of shoppers so you get smelly customers in the summer time.

My boyfriend and i came here for a quick dinner. Restaurant was quite busy. <br/><br/>We ordered 12 oysters to start and a Kingclip and prawns to share as a main as I wasn't very hungry. <br/><br/>The oysters came but and although they were fresh it was quite disappointing, presentation was so poor, the ice was all melting, there's so much seeds in the lemon, and oysters looked so messy. <br/><br/>The main course came and it looks really good. But once again it was disappointing. The whole dish was cold. The Kingclip was over cooked. Prawns tasted good but it was cold. <br/><br/>I didn't mention anything till the end, the waiter was very friendly and told us that we shouldve told him earlier and they will make a new one for us. <br/><br/><br/><br/><br/><br/>

Great food overall. Always tasty. I had prawns, wife had sushi and both were good! Service was excellent but restaurant was empty as we went for early dinner. Overall definitely a great version of the Ocean Basket franchise

Prawn Extravaganza promotion is on. Have to give it a try. Also our first visit to this franchise. <br/>Our arrival into the restaurant was a bit suspect. The waitress was leaning against the wall and she continued to do so while we spoke to her. Hmmmm. Not the best of greetings <br/>Then they ran out of bread/rolls & apologised for not giving us any. <br/>The restaurant is very large inside but they pack the patrons tightly against each other. Not so comfortable. <br/>When the food arrived it looked appetising & yummy. The prawns were delicious. The lemon butter & garlic sauce was tasty & went well with the prawns. My wife's platter for one had a great selection & she thoroughly enjoyed it. <br/>The waitress forgot to bring our water & took my carafe of wine away while it was still half full. <br/>I found the over all experience over commercialised, too noisy, too cramped & very average. <br/>
