Amazing food! This is an authentic chinese restaurant. We had a hot pot and it was divine the dumplings were also fantastic. I highly recommedn this gem of a place.
I have been craving hot pot since I stumbled upon it on YouTube over a year ago.
Today we braved the JHB chill and visited this little gem in Cyrildene.
From the moment you walk in you are warmly greeted and seated :-) offered a steaming pot of green tea and roasted sunflower seeds.
We ordered the hot pot with half and half. Sliced beef, pork and lamb accompanied by udon, shiitake mushrooms, bean sprouts, crispy intestines....match made in heaven. The quality of the ingredients and the freshness is amazing.
You are also given a variety of sauces that you can mix to make you own personal dipping sauce....I chose peanut sauce, sesame oil and chilli oil.
We also tried the dumpling soup, fried dumplings, seschuan beef stir fry.
All of this for 5 adults who were thoroughly impressed and in a hot pot come.... R751.
We cannot wait to go back.
Also, pls note they are at number 23 Derrick Avenue. :-)
Fast and friendly service, very reasonably priced. The hot pot was absolutely delicious and they had some nice ingredient options on the menu.
Went here for Chinese New Year dinner. The personal service from owners and management was fantastic. Food excellent - had the Hot Pot with various meats and veggies. Will be back.
Awesome experience, delicious food and hospitable hosts! Fun day out in Chinatown and thoroughly enjoyed our first time hot pot experience! The flavours were absolutely delicious!!
We love this place ❤ when its a cold day a Hot pot hits the spot just right. You can order half half or just one broth . You can order just what you want to eat the variety is insane 😳 😋 you will enjoy this family style eating 😉 be prepared to come hungry 😉 its delicious 😋 and fun for everyone.
A truly authentic hotpot experience. The cumin beef is a must, it was seasoned to perfection! Its a family owned establishment and this shows in their service, its very relaxed, as if you’re sitting in your relatives dining room!
My brother always goes here with his group of friends & always has such fantastic things to say about this place. We were looking for something different for a date night & decided to come here, we were not disappointed at all. The owners are so sweet & made us feel at home. Mike showed us the ropes as it was our first time & made the peanut sauce which was to die for. My husband could not stop saying "this is amazing" for every bite he had. I was worried that he wouldn't get full but he ate until he was satisfied & we had a variety of things. Definitely going back with some friends as Mike says "it's a great way for social bonding" & quite honestly they truly made our experience wonderful.
A different experience altogether. Celeste and Michael were very friendly and helpful to explain to us what to do as it was our first time there. The broth is provided and you order and cook your own food. Have a choice of hot or not or both.
Pricing was fairly reasonable. Restaurant can do with a slight upgrade but could be the traditional Chinese look and feel. Parking not so convenient.
Will be back!!!
One of best hot pot experiences we have had. The staff was friendly and attentive to all our requests. The quality of the vegetables were fresh. Defnitely recommend for those who have tried it before and those whom haven't. Our favourite was the marinated beef and milky mushroom. The cucumber salad was amazing. The homemade sesame oil made all the difference. Will definitely recommend to others.
It's the best food experience ever. Their Hot Pot is absolutely delicious. Craving to return there soon. Waitress was very helpful and got us going with food and drink fast. The "Feire" water has a kick. Assortment of dips spices, herbs and oils to make your own sauce. Choices available to go in hotpot is more than enough and ensures a unique flavor every visit. Decor wise, it is basic, but that's not why you're there. It's fantastic and is definitely worth a visit.
Chong Qing is one of my favourite restaurants in Cyrildene. They’re well known for their hot pot, which is reasonably priced and has a ton of great options to choose from.
However their noodle soups are some of the best I’ve had in Joburg. The Tender Beef noodles with chilli is my go-to comfort meal. The fresh, handmade noodles are soft and delicate, and absorb all the delicious flavour of the broth. The meat is cooked perfectly and just falls apart. We also always order their Cucumber Salad which is tangy and refreshing, but be warned, it’s super spicy! The boiled dumplings are also fantastic, and come in a delicious chilli broth.
The owners don’t speak English so it is a bit difficult to communicate, but they are super friendly and the wait staff is always there to help you out. Sitting outside on the balcony is also a treat, as they have beautiful plants hanging from the walls.
The dining environment makes people feel comfortable and tidy. The hot pot dipping sauce is self-service, but the table top where the sauce is placed is very clean. The sanitation is very good, the waiters will clean up the dirty ground quickly, and will take care of the safety of the guests.
One of the few restaurants in the street to have made it.
The food was great and the owner seems to chef to. You can see he has a passion for his food.
The hot pot is a great social way to get together. We only ordered of the normal menu and the food was great.

Hotpot is so much fun and very affordable for large groups. The restaurant also has a kids play room (a ball pool). Make sure you ask them to pack any remaining broth to take home!
The food and soups are nice and the price is reasonable. I like their sesame sauce! Don't miss it if you want to have some classical hot pots during cold days.
This was our first attempt at the Hot Pot. It didn’t disappoint. Food was great and very reasonable. And you can get a takeaway bag if you have some leftovers. The route to the restaurant can seem daunting but hey we are in SA and must experience the “paths less trodden”. The owners English is limited but soooo cute.

Good was absolutely stunning!!!
We loved it a lot!
Will be nice to see next time to be upgraded…
And chairs must be changed… very uncomfortable.
The owners and their son are lovely people and very friendly!
Thank you!
What an amazing place. Authentic delicious food. Best place ive been too in ages. The host Micheal makes you feel welcome. Would definitely recommend. Thank you for having us..
Authentic Hot pot as well as other Chinese dishes. You are presented with a broth that sits in the middle of your table and you order plates of vegetables, raw thinly sliced meat, seafood and noodles. You basically place them in your broth and allow to cook for a minute. You also have condiments to accompany your meal. It really is an experience.
Homemade noodles pair well with the broth and chilli to add that extra kick. As your tastebuds get used to the spice, the flavour builds and sneaks up to your upper palate.
Best hotpot experience Ive had in SA. The hosts took great care of our group. Tip: Try the fire water to stimulate conversation. Ill be back soon! Thank you!
