Review Taj Mahal Indian Restaurant - Johannesburg

We order very frequently from this place. The quality and quantity are very good. The service is also quick. Especially the Indian sweets. They keep making them very regularly and fresh. We definitely always buy sweets whenever we order food. The menu options are also good for both veg and non veg. Will definitely recommend anyone looking for Indian food

Great food. The place doesn't look very fancy but the food is amazing. I am a regular here and I always drive all the way from North Riding just to get my favourite fish curry 😊👌

In last couple of years, we have tried almost all the north indian vegetarian dishes and chefs really know their stuff here. Naans and rotis also great quality. Delicious food in general. Thanks to Tryphine for making sure everything is as per order everytime.

Really tasty authentic Indian food. The spice level was great and the flavor was lovely. The portion sizes were quite decent. You do have to pay extra for rice though. They also have a great selection of traditional sweets.

Wanted to try something new (Indian food) and boy was I impressed with this restaurant! I had their butter chicken & basmati rice the 1st time and it was D-elicious. The chicken was so soft- cooked to perfection and the flavor out of this world. Also tried out their lamb bunny chow & I loved it. Only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is I found the food too spicy- I had the mild options (lowest level) on both occasions and I couldn't handle it...but maybe that's only because I generally struggle with hot foods. But, apart from that- I'd recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good Indian food 👌🏽

My daughter loves the Indian sweets available here... Reason for not to miss India when outside India. Food is awesome, service is good and plus one for cleanliness as well... Keep cooking authentic Indian cuisines for spicy and tasty food lovers.

Was expecting a creamy korma paneer and instead it was salty and even watery and the paneer was sour. The portion sizes were good, and maybe korma isnt their best dish

The Chicken Curry was very disappointing and bland. Had the texture and tasted more like dhal. Presentation was also lacking. Also no carrot salad as an accompaniment to cut through the blandness.

Quick, economical and filling is the three words I can describe this is restaurant to be as... I have been a fan of the biryani and fried rice ..but the taste have changed over years .. :)

I heard the name of the restaurant from so many people but when I went to the place I was totally disappointed. The place might be ok for takeaway but for dine in its not right. The place had bad cutlery and no cleanliness. I took my parents who came from India for lunch at this place and it was so bad that I felt so sorry about the same later. The food is ok but because of hygiene factor I was worried about eating the same. I will never visit the place again. Thanks

Ordered a few naan for takeaway and although it tasted good I had a few concerns about the venue, staff and the overall impression it leaves at this price point. Its far from an appealing restaurant and doesn't seem appetizing upon walking in. It becomes even more confusing once you see the menu and it's pricing. Unfortunately I'd much rather sit in a decently laid out restaurant for the same value.

If you dont mind about ambiance and only interested in food then this is right place. You will find authentic indian cusines. I had tried chilli chicken, chicken 65, Lamb kadai with plain naan. All of them are fantastic.will come again.

Good food - would go again, but nothing spectacular about the setting. Nice location amongst a bunch of other good restaurants near Mall of Africa's disappointing restaurant selection.

Around the corner from here is Cooper Chimney. It's a tough choice. But I gave Taj Mahal a chance. I'm glad I did!

Now let's understand this. A bunny chow is not an Indian dish. It's a South African dish. It's been perfected by South Africans using the curry which is quite typical of Indian cuisine.

I don't think people that specialise in subcontinental cuisine realise this as they continue to put the thick, rich curries synonymous with North India, into the bunnies.

But

WOW WOW WOW! The curry here is well, butter lamb styled. Rich with sweet tomato flavour with the thickened cream. This should not work with a bunny but my gosh, this was just plain excellent. It probably also had something to do with the tender and soft lamb.

Sure it was not a bunny in the style that it should be made. And it was rather large (and a bit on the expensive side) but I definitely think these guys are worth checking out!
