It's a nice place to have good prawns and fish. The staff is friendly and hospitable. Food is worth tasting. It's simple, and delicious. Parking can be a bit of an issue if you are not used to Fordsburg. Be careful where you park your vehicle and ensure you are safe.

Absolutely love the food here. The wait staff are also amazing. Super friendly. Great attitudes, great atmosphere and great food. Only thing that's missing is a nice play area for the kids.

Excellent food and service. Really happy decor is brighter. Hoosen the owner is very pro active and always very helpful. Staff always great . Just a shame area is no longer that nice...Portuguese cuisine @ best.....all seafood and chicken is excellent.

Great food and service. However, I always feel that Calisto's is missing a few items on their menu (not a problem with this branch, of course, Calisto's in general.) Oh yes, forgot to mention that the place was recently revamped - looks great!

Been here on a few too many occasions. Boycotted this place for a year as they refused to provide an extra chair for a booking made for 2 people but due to unforeseen circumstances, it was 3. Went back after lots of convincing. Service is average, food though is excellent. The Calistos special pizza is my favorite. All food items are excellent. I still feel the atmosphere is one where u r doing them a favor of coming there. In my opinion, the service welcome and coming to ask if all is well, is just a mere formality. There is no genuine interest in the diners. Haven’t been there in 3 months and not missing the place.

Tried out their current business lunch offers; The med prawns were really delicious.. but very tiny. The chicken was good but again, very small. Their round chips were not up to much, some were still raw! Regular chips are very nice.. Cheesy Garlic Bread looked really appetising and tasted just as good. Service was ok.. order took very long to come even though the restaurant was virtually empty The place could do with an upgrade in my opinion.

Have had a nearly bad experience every time I have been here. The Portuguese restaurant next to it, Adega, is a much better alternative. The last time we went, the T-Bone steak had an awful smell. The food is average at best, their bastings are not nearly the best. They need to pull their socks up. The only reason I give 1.5 stars is for the spicy chicken wings. The only thing worth spending money on!

This is one of the most popular restaurants in Fordsburg. Although they specialise in Portuguese cuisine, the menu is quite diverse. The restaurant is spacious and has a pleasant ambiance. The food is good, especially the steaks, spicy chicken and pizzas.

Read in full. At first they messed up the order with the sides and the food came cold, but the manager speedily came to the rescue and sorted out our side orders and made a fresh hot steak in record time. The food was great and the service too. Well done and definitely worth a visit.

Food is always delicious. We have tried everything. Steak. Prawns. Fish. Calamari. Chicken. All yummy. Restaurant is kid friendly (no play area though) . Very affordable.

Unexpected great food. Venue was very hot and cramped even though the aircon was on. Almost left after being seated due to discomfort (heat and seats not that comfy). Managed to sit nearer to the aircon by request and when the food arrived we were very happy. I had the chicken schnitzel which was great. The pasta was cery plain and my son enjoyed that more than we did.

Went here for my birthday, best halaal prawns in Jozi. Perfect for family outings. Their steak is not to bad either. Nice vibrant atmosphere any day of the week. Their desserts are basic but will made with a large variety of flavored ice creams and milkshakes

My family went there for a birthday dinner and it was absolutely amazing! We had platters with a combination of chicken, steak, prawns, rice and chips. The food had a Portuguese flavor which was very different from the usual food we have. There were about 30 of us but the service was great. The waiters were friendly and welcoming:) I definitely suggest try this place out.

Calisto's is one of the last Fordsburg restaurants where good food still happens. Always. A word of advice though: If you're a few people, all having prawns, have them plate each serving separately, since the chafing dish containing everyone's prawns at once will arrive with a single serving of rice for everyone. A bit of a cheat, methinks. The waiter tonight wasn't great which is what brought down the overall rating. Food arrived before plates. Wet wipes never found the table. That sort of thing. But the prawns were succulent, the rice was fluffy and the chips were nice and crispy. I'd give the mocktails a miss though. Their nojito is a sad sad thing. P.S. on the downside, Calisto's adds a standard 10% of bill to the final cost which is a bit of a disincentive to providing good service. So tipping is not at the discretion of the patron.

Calisto's is one of the few restaurants I've eaten at in the Fordsburg area. As with all places in Fordsburg alcohol doesn't feature on the menu, and for good reason as well. Anyway this just meant that the food had to be taken to that next level of "deliciousness". Calisto's was the chosen restaurant for our team lunch to close out the end of 2015, and I'm glad we did. I ordered the Full "Hot" LM Piri-Piri Chicken served with a double choice of rice, chips, veg, or salad. I opted for the winning combination of chips and veg (spinach and butternut). The meal exceeded all my expectations, the chicken was delicious, tender, and juicy. It wasn't too hot or mild for my taste buds. I would rate this as my 2nd best chicken in Jozie. What made the experience all that much better was out waiter, Gunjun, who was extremely polite, attentive and ensured that all our needs were taken care of. He went as far as to point out that the system automatically includes a 10% tip on the bill, and that we shouldn't feel obliged to pay it and that we should give him what we feel he deserved.

My family and I ordered the Steak prego rolls and it was really tasty!. The staff helping us were really really helpful and assisted us so perfectly! Will be back to try something else on the menu or one of the pizza's.

This is one of the few restaurants that I've been to where both the food and service are excellent. I always order the Half LM chicken which is well spiced and cooked to perfection. From what I hear their prawns are just as good, but I'm yet to try it. Overall it has a great vibe, good service and well prepared food. I'd high recommend it!

I had a great experience at Calistos. The restaurant was buzzing and extremely busy however service was never compromised. Our waiter was attentive and recommended the Calistos Steak (house speciality) which was AMAZING. Honestly one of the best I've has in jhb and I have frequented the many Parkhurst steakhouses so I am comparing it to highly recommended establishments as well. The restaurant is family friendly and makes for a relaxed, casual night out with incredible food and service.

A beautiful rustic feel. Wonderful prawns, spicy and saucy chicken with lovely side dishes as well. Been here quite a few times and never get tired of it. The Creme Brûlée and Licorice Ice Cream are two of my favourite desserts to end of a delectable dinner with family ❤️

Calistos is a real family restaurant which caters to everyone's tastes from delectable pastas to crispy clay oven pizza they have it. The service is wonderful and the food outstanding! The prawns are wonderful and spicy and the non alcoholic cocktails complete a wonderful meal. In winter if you sit on the outside they have blankets and heaters ready to keep you cosy. The macaroons are stunning too the tastes are divine and you leave you lingering for more! Calistos fordsburg a place where family and food is important ♡♡

This is a favourite of ours. Staff know us well. We walked in tonight and were asked: "the usual?" The usual is the seafood platter for two. And tonight, as usual, it didn't disappoint. The portions are huge. If its just the 2 of you, you'll take home a doggy bag. Most tables were families tonight. And that's exactly what Calisto's is about. A great family night out.

The food was decent, very good service. It's been a while where a restaurant had such attentive waiters and manager. The waiters anticipated needs and brought items to the table before we could ask. The manager constantly came over to check how we were and if our meals were fine. despite having a large crowd they got all the orders correct.

Situated near the food hub in Fordsburg, Calisto's offer great food and good service. The decor is not WOW but blends in well with the brand. The staff are polite and make sure when orders are taken to ensure the correct stuff has been jotted down. On the food side, there menu offers enough to choose from whilst being manageable. The LM chicken is amazing...It had plenty flavour and I highly recommend it. Their seafood can be improved although its not bad at all. Its a place i recommend to have a good evening with great food. Try it, the LM is waiting...

This was my first visit to Calisto's and I absolutely loved the food. Being vegetarian I ordered the halloumi fingers with sider order of chips and rice. This was excellent, my husband ordered the chicken and prawns which he really enjoyed. Their house chilli sauce was awesome, you can purchase a bottle for take away as well. I was rather disappointed to hear that they were low on stock and therefore I could not take a bottle home. The restaurant was relatively quiet, our waiter was very accommodating with my son. The service was great. I will definitely be visiting Calisto's again.

Caltisto's is among the best Portuguese, Halaal cuisine, Jo'burg has on offer. The prawns and chicken have become incredibly famous and I can see why. The flavors are very distinct and different while their menu offers variety. The prawns and chicken are best served with rice or chips which are very well prepared and add to the great taste. I wasn't too pleased with their chop though. I found the flavour too harsh while the texture was tough. The ambiance is adequate not extraordinary and the service is mostly mediocre. It is definitely the food that makes people go back for more.

I've been here on a few occasions and was quite pleased by their service and food. It's perfect for couples and families as they cater for both. I attended a function for work and afterward we had our meal here. They catered to our every need with such due diligence everyone was quite pleased. We were a rambunctious bunch of ladies and they took the bumps in our orders and misunderstanding in their stride. Since it is halaal, I ordered the flame grilled chicken breast which was quite delicious, but I have to say that the prawns are a definite win. A friend of mine mentioned that their lamb chops are delicious, but I haven't tried them as yet. You can either be seated indoors or al fresco. It's great to be seated outside on warm evenings and if it's really busy and noisy inside.

Calisto's loacted near the fordsburg store, hence very easy to find...they serve Portugese food..The atmosphere is great and the place is always filled with people...Nice place for having a fun dinner with friends or family... The food is good...The Pirri Pirri was excellent as were several other dishes we tried . Recommended for the food! Absolutely love this restaurant. The prawns and chicken are exceptional. You can order them spicy, which is preferred, but not for those with sensitive tastebuds. They do have a wide menu and also offer pizzas and pastas. The pizzas are made in a clay oven, but I have never had them. Have the prawns. We order two half a kgs and they bring it in the warm pot. The rice and chips are also well made. The chicken is amazing. But I don't generally have enough space for it! The waiters and hots are generally pleasant and the waiters, while sometimes a little ignorant, can be very friendly. This is a HALAAL restaurant and they do not sell alcohol on the premises. it is perfect for family outings. the decor is nothing special, but they have made an effort.
