I've been coming here for 5 years and the food is always consistently great! Whether it's getting quick take away or eating in, Yung Chen is always on my list for Chinese food. Their black pepper beef is fantastic, best I've had in The country!!
Okay so I'm a big fan of the Yung Chen restaurants. They make the most delicious Chinese cuisine. The service is always super friendly and the food is consistently good.

For years we felt compelled to only go to the Chinatown in Bruma for a good, well made, traditional Chinese food. Upon stumbling on this small and secluded jem, our first taste of the pork and beef fried rice, we were hooked.
A weekly staple in our home. Yung Chen is absolutely delicious and the best fast food Chinese food I have had in Johannesburg. Tasty, fresh and so good!
Great little chinese resteraunt! Located in a small centre just across the road from melrose arch. The food is always fresh and the service is always great! Variety of options - single portions and sharing portions available. We had the beef chop suey - super tasty and its served with the most divine veges! The spring rolls are served in a portion of 4 - the chicken spring rolls were delicious! Seating available, but they do an enormous amount of takeaway orders.
Some of the best Chinese food I've had in a long time! As you can see in the photos, I couldn't help myself 😁. The pics definitely do not do the food justice. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Probably the only Chinese takeout place I would eat from. Being Chinese myself, I'm usually extremely fussy in picking a place for Chinese food. Their service is fast and I've yet to have a badly prepared meal from this place. Some of my favorites are: fried wonton with sweet chili sauce, beef in blackpepper and chicken chow mien.
This is a family run Chinese restaurant and take away. I am a long supporter of the owner of this business as he passionate, friendly and really puts a lot of effort into his business.
Nothing is every too much a request to fill and I always enjoy my meal here which is usually in the form of a take away. For meat eaters it is recommended that you try the crispy beef / chicken or black pepper on the menu otherwise there is a good selection for vegetarians from noodles to veggies and a filling Foo Yung (Chinese omelette).
Even though meals do not necessarily come with rice or noodles then you can order this separately as their prices are not too bad. If you are lucky and there is some tofu available, then Johnny can make one of the best crispy and spicy tofu dishes in Joburg.
Sometimes takeaways are a life saver, but not being a fan on fast food, Chinese is a good option. I've had some really good meals here with nice portion sizes and it's not drowned in oil or sauces that taste fake. Try their crispy beef ... That's a Yum treat.

Yung Chen is centrally located in the centre opposite Melrose Arch and we decided to try them out ourselves as we had once had takeaways from there at a friends place.
Although an ordinary Chinese takeaway place their menu is somewhat unique (to a certain degree) mostly because of they way it looks. They have managed to make it look extremely appealing and always helps to have pictures of the food on the menu.
Their food is good. Had the Salt & Pepper Prawns (good portion size), Fried Calamari and Deep Fried Wonton. Thoroughly enjoyed it - did find that although the Prawns and Calamari were different dishes the flavours were essentially the same.
Be warned that the meals don't come with rice and/or noodles. So you will have to order this as extra and it is at an additional cost. This is the norm for the high-end Chinese restaurants e.g. Red Chamber but I was somewhat taken a back by the high cost for our meal. Isn't Chinese food meant to be cheap? Maybe it is the area that contributes to the high price and being from the South I may just be used to our acceptable Chinese Takeaway prices.
Worth trying for some different Chinese meals - just too pricey for my liking.
My dad is Chinese (and a great cook!) and having grown up around the customs and food, the bar was set quite high!
I will deny this if he ever asks, but if I feel like some 'home-style' cooking that reminds me of my pops, Yung Chen is where I go. Black Pepper Beef, Salt & Pepper Prawns are my absolute favorites.
When I feel like embracing the westernised version of Chinese food, the crispy chicken is great! (Perfect comfort good).

Great Chinese takeout. Crispy beef is always on point.
Excellent Chinese fare . Chinese owners with Zim support crew. All nice people. Takeaway orders can be hazardous as some Cantonese interpretation takes place. My recommendation is the Yung Chen noodles with a little chilli.

Perfect for single meals, its full for adult. Recommend to order no.4:chopsuey, that is enough for your daily vegetable and meat needs.
One of the most reliable and authentic Asian cuisine cook with consistency, been going for over 6 years now, their wonton soup is one of the best in the whole Johannesburg and their beef chow main and chicken chop suey are equally very good
Their side of red chilli sauce is awesome with any of the above
