Review Mugg & Bean - Johannesburg

Brenda Sethi
I absolutely love this Mugg & Bean, I always find the service from the wait staff pleasant and the food always tastes like it’s freshly made. I had the California omelette and I don’t know if I’ve tasted a better omelette than this, it is just so delicious. Washed it down with some hot chocolate and I honestly can’t complain. The atmosphere is nice, everybody is minding their own business and enjoying the good food. I have to comment on their bathrooms as well, they’re so clean and look better than most restaurants. 2 thumbs up from me.

Service is great, the waiters are all friendly and offer their help even if its not their table.I got served by Jacob - he was a superstar mind you it was busy with bookings for year end functions but he was always coming to checkup on me.

I loved visiting the Mugg & Bean at Woodmead. The atmosphere made me feel so happy and our waiter, Mike, was top notch! 💯 For the food; it was good but it isn’t without its drawbacks, I enjoy my pistachio & white choc shake, but the burger patty was a little bit too bland for me. I am a lover of spice and that was missing. I am happy that I had Tabasco sauce tho!

We visited this place on a weekend to have breakfast. We ordered a giant muffin, a cappuccino, sandwich and a double thick vanilla milkshake. Everyone of them was so good. Even the service was very nice. The staff were very polite and friendly. It even has outdoor seating. And they have quite an interesting menu. Will definitely go back for sure.

Mike was our waiter, and he was lovely, very attentive and friendly. The food was very yummy, it's basically like any other mug & bean, but still a classic to attend. The atmosphere is nice, has a combination of a homey and a coffee shop feel to it.

I love Mug and Bean. Great food and good service. The one thing I don’t understand about M&B though is why it is so noisy inside? However, the food has become better and better over the years and the coffee is still great.

I ended up in here for pure luck because lunch time caught me in a mall with little time to explore. After getting the menu in my hands I was surprised with how diverse their options were and that they had taken included dishes for vegetarians, lactose and gluten sensitivities as well as other food related specialties. I was not really expecting much taste-wise, as usually big franchises tend to be more into the mediocre side, yet it only took me a few bites to understand that this one was different. The flavour development of both dishes was fantastic and the portion sizes were surprisingly BIG. Their staff was friendly, patient and provided all the answers to my questions... Summarising: it is worth going, stopping by and indulging yourself in their gastronomic offer.

I have only ever had great food there and the owners shareene and dean are a pleasure as they go out of their way to make sure you have an amazing experience there and it is always sparkling clean . Staff so friendly and helpful and professional! Love this place

I have been to M&B Woodmead a few times. Everytime I arrive I am well received by their staff who are always smiling, friendly and welcoming. Their food is awesome, cappucino’s amazing. Always consistent. Well done and definately the best M&B franchise I have been to.

I had breakfast, all the staff was friendly and service was great. Food was fresh and arrived fast. Waiter was on point. I will definitely eat at woodmead Mugg and Bean again

If I could give Mugg & Bean Woodmead and Bongani a 10 star ⭐⭐⭐ rating, I would! They always go out of their way to give excellent service. Nothing is too much trouble for them 🏆🏆🏆

Mugg and Bean Woodmead. Our favourite place to grab a breakfast, lunch or coffee. The most fantastic and friendly staff, who are very helpful with substitutions (mushroom for bacon for example), making the life of vegetarians so easy. Bongani, Andile, everyone is amazing!

Mugg and Bean Woodmead has the best customer service, everyday when we visit we always receive service with a smile, management is so friendly and they always come to greet us every morning as regulars of the establishment, thanks Mugg and Bean

Tapera was our waiter. Great service and great food. Ephias and Bonagani are wonderful managers. Definitely recommend for breakfast

The Benedict bowl I had here was absolutely delicious. 😍 I’d never had a Benedict bowl before and I found this one to be quite an interesting and competent take on it. I’ll definitely return.

This is our local as such, and it never lets us down. Good food at fair prices with quick service. More fancy places could learn from this branch

We recently visited Kyalami Corner for breakfast with the in-laws, having to accommodate for a vegetarian and a crazy 18 month old we decided on M&B. We got in just before 8:30 and proceeded to order, the service was slow and waiters were neither hospitable nor attentive. I opted for my old faithful salmon benedict which was good though Annika Kirrpaul had the scrambled eggs with avo on toast which looked very unappealing and lacked flavour. I hope it was just an off day as it was my first bad experience at a M&B.

Tasty oats! Never had the future life one before and it was super filling - not better than normal oats but still worth the try! Everyone to their own I guess

Mugg & Bean Chicken Mayonnaise Toasted sandwich - ALWAYS!! :P It's always perfectly toasted, it always has a decent amount of mayo on it (noone likes a dry toasted chicken mayo!), and it never tastes bland! The service at this particular restaurant is lovely!
Stephanie Baker
This Mugg & Bean is my families every Saturday morning breakfast spot!! The friendly staff and delicious food never lets us down. We have been more times then I can even remember and we have never had a bad experience. Thank you Mugg & Bean Woodmead

Great service and good food at a decent price for what you get. My go to meal is their tomato soup. Other than that I am usually here for breakfast or brunch and their food is always good. Quantity is generous and service is fast. It is sometimes a bit too noisy in the inside and I usually always sit outside. Love their eggs benedict and bottomless hot chocolate on a cold winters day!

Red Cappuccino with bran and raisin muffin for an afternoon snack was just perfect . I enjoyed the muffin with butter and cheese 🙈.
Good service worth a try if you around the area .
Rigard & Jeanine
One of the best of these outlets that we've been to. Nice layout offering seating both in and outside. Ample parking available. Good quality meals and excellent service.

Stopped by this cafe for a quick coffee break and to my surprise the service was pretty quick but the staff here were inattentive. We had to wait for almost 15 min to get our cheque. The drink was pretty much good as the usual M&B standards.

A terrible mugg & bean. Service horrid. Food average. Honestly do your self a favor & get that coffee at the Woolworths next door. Manager/owner has a bad attitude & customer service is next to nil. Not worth spending your money here.

Service at this branch had been really bad previously and we did hesistate eating there but I was swayed by having a chance to try more of Mugg and Bean's new menu which I have been loving so far! We actually had a really nice brunch here, we asked if our food could be hurried as we need to be at the airport, and so it was everything got to our table in record time. Service was great and more than one manager came to check on our table. The fiance and I ordered the mexican and southern platters. They came so well prepared and everything was delicious. Everyone else also enjoyed their food, pity that we had to hurry...

Vibey and neat. One of the most comprehensive menus I've seen in a while that caters for a wide range of tastebuds. Food was tasty and well prepared. Service was good and management presence made sure people was happy. Worth a try.
Stuninho
Ok by M&B standards. They do have the little kids play centre which helps. Food is always ok and the coffee nice. Staff could be a little more attentive.
Nabihah Plaatjes
Enjoyed a lovely Lemon Meringue from this Mugg and Bean. Lovely Big portions and good service. Does tend to get a bit busy at any time of the day, but the quality of food and the service hasn't been compromised (in my experience).
Charmaine
This is a really good Mugg & Bean, food is good, service is good, need i say more? The restaurant tends to get really busy so can be a bit noisy but still has a great vibe.

What do I say here other than, "much better than the one in Sandton city"... and that can only be Management style and waitron management. Maybe take a lesson out of the Woodmead banner
Rhonda Hamilton
Fair warning, sometimes if you sit outside, service can be slow. As part of the retail park, it can be very busy but on the whole, is a lovely M&B.

I go frequently here as it's near work..service has always been very friendly and efficient..their food is good quality and nice big portions..my favourite so to get a hot chocolate drink - the Caribbean mocha, chocolate, coconut and coffee 😍 do I need to say more

It was a friend's birthday and she wanted to go for a quick lunch to Mugg & Bean. Ordered the Matcha Green tea float. Was a bit skeptical to try it but it was awesome. Settled on the flatbread with sesame-crusted buttermilk chicken. The sesame-crusted chicken was crispy but I felt there was too much Thai peanut satay sauce. Some of the sweet potato fries were also under cooked.

To start I am not a fan of Mugg and Bean, but stopped in for a quick brunch. The new futurelife banana caramel shake had so many flavours mixing into one that it became unpleasant.... But the bottomless lemonade was so refreshing. We ordered the sloppy joe skillet and the beef wrap with a salad. Must say in true M&B fashion the portions were huge. The skillet dish was really tasty with hints of coriander adding depth. The wrap was packed with steak and fresh veggies and the salad was a generous portion smothered in a lovely dressing.
The setting is nothing fantastic, sometimes that doesn't matter, especially when the company is so amazing....

Great place in Woodward. A few problems though. They are next to the Fournos that's under construction. The noise is insane from the drilling. Had the Big Daddy burger, but I felt let down by the flavours. It was dripping mostly of oil which wasn't good. The fries were even worse than I pictured in my head. They were very dry and looked like the frozen ones that you just throw into the oil. Not the best.

We were celebrating a birthday and decided to meet up with some friends at Mugg and Bean. I have to say that most of the stuff on their new menu looks pretty great. To drink, I ordered the sugar-free sweet apple and gooseberry ice tea. For a sugar-free drink, this was actually really nice and refreshing.

I was quite undecided on what to eat and eventually settled on the sesame-crusted buttermilk chicken flatbread with a side of sweet potato fries. When my food arrived, I wasn't too sure how the satay sauce would taste but it was really delicious when paired with the chicken strips. The sweet potato fries on the other hand, could have been a little less oily.

The service was alright and our waiter was both friendly and attentive. I did find it shocking that we had to pay for the slice of cake that they brought to the table when they sang for our friend!
Went through to M&B to celebrate a friends birthday for lunch today. Having tasted the sugar free ice tea, I ordered it again its surprisingly tasty for something that is sugar free. For mains I ordered the Korean BBQ ribs, which were delicious. They had the right levels of sweetness, chili, and the occasional burst of peanut every few bites. For dessert we shared a slice of Blueberry and Lemonade Cheese Cake which was actually delicious.

I have a large range of Mugg and Beans that I am close to however this one does not compare to its counterparts. Better than the Carlswald one for sure as it is better spaced out and has a bigger space for patrons to sit in but the food is just okay. Like not something that makes me jump for joy. Rather try another outlet if food is more important than the ambiance.

I tried one of their new dishes... The buttermilk chicken strips with satay sauce in a flat bread w/ sweet potatoe fries. The fries were possibly not cooked properly, or just badly executed... But my first chicken strip I bit into was raw. So I sent it back and got it taken off the bill, I sure AF wasn't going to eat anything else from them...

The Caribbean Mocha was okay, I've had worse.

Always a great place to catch a quick breakfast after a early morning run or cycle. Service and size of helpings are always awesome which is testimony to their long established franchise.
Regular Moca Java coffee blend is bottomless with any breakfast accompaniment on the menu makes for a nice start to the day. Tried the Croque Madame (Back bacon, tomato and rocket, between two slices of M&B toast, topped with creamy mustard cheese sauce, melted cheddar, fresh avo and an egg) which is something new on their menu and was pleasantly surprised. Even without the bacon the dish was great.
Not sure what ever happen to their Mexican Scramble which was my every Sat morning breakfast pick up but nevertheless I guess menus always need updating.

I'm a regular customer of this mugg and bean as their customer service is top notch! Popped in today for a warm drink and cozy meal - recommend any of their toasted sandwiches!!! Breakfasts and lunches are great and well portioned, but I never seem to be able to finish these and so find them a tad expensive for myself. But for those hungry tummies... This place is perfect! Also great to read a book or do some work while enjoying some great coffee or varietals!

Had lunch with a friend at the restaurant. Awesome venue for late Saturday afternoon drinks. I could never have enough of their chicken and a I wrap.
Vick Lallbahadur
I always order the same omelet at every mug and bean, but the one at Woodmead is faultless! 👌🏼 perfectly done with the most softest toast anywhere! Plus they actually remember to add in steak knives, not the useless butter knife! Well done👍🏼

Haven't been to a Mugg and Bean since I was unfortunate to go to the one at the airport which was honestly the worst experience of my life. However we went to the woodmead branch today and the service from a gentleman called Leeroy was exceptional!!! As I must eat Gluten free I had mushrooms with eggs and Avo. Was ok but the service was 1st class. Please add more GF items.

I don't know why I go to Mugg & Bean. Mostly I think it is their amazing red cappuccino and cheese cake but everytime I eat there I am so disappointed. I do not know how they manage to turn food that sounds amazing when you read the ingredients on the menu, into overpriced, flavourless regret
James Laubscher
Service was ok but food very overpriced for portion size. Had the grilled chicken skewers (2) very small size, tender but flavourless with oily fried mixed peppers, nearly R100, thats about R15 more than the quality and quantity deserves.

Mmmm yummy Sunday brunch at Woodmead Mugg and Bean. The service was great and our meals were delicious. It's very busy on the weekend but you never have to wait long for your orders.

We were treated to breakfast before everyone goes away for the festive season. Haven't been here since this centre opened. We got their quite early and the placed filled up very quick. Fast efficient service. My cappuccino was divine and my colleagues enjoyed their various ice teas. My bacon and avo and eggs were delicious decided to start my day with the low carb option hehe after all my indulging lately. Friend had the sa breakfast and the salmon eggs benedict which all went down well for a Friday morning start.

I had a very good breakfast at this branch! The service was great. I would def go back again! The Banting eggs benedict was incredible really good value for money and it tased very good.

I have had two disappointing meals at the Fournos in this area, and as such decided to try out the Mugg & Bean for a change, for a break from my household shopping extravaganza! Did I mention that I just love Mugg & Bean's value-for-money and consistency?

I am so impressed that their Woodmead outlet has managed to keep up a standard, both of food and service! Wonderful surprise and I will be back again soon on my next Woodmead shopping trip!

Incredibly impressed with Mugg & Bean in Woodmead 👏🏼 after a morning of shopping, we were jonesing for a good brunch & the ambience at Mugg & Bean drew us in. We sat outside on the patio in the sun & it was so pleasant! The service was impeccable- Ishmail took such good care of us. The food was also great 👌🏼 I'll definitely be back

Pop in often or just grab a cappachino on the way to work. Always friendly helpful staff. I miss the Clam Chowder soup they had but i know Mugg & bean change the menu often...also miss the butter curry chicken. Why are you always out of Chocolate cake? hmmmm?

I was pleasantly surprised visiting this Mugg and Bean for the first time!

The service was fantastic!

I had coffee and a salad. The salad was fresh and tasty. I will definitely recommend this Mugg and Bean to everyone as it is one of the best I have visited.

Mugg and Bean is usually a Sunday lunch tradition and after our visit on Sunday it shall continue. The service was good and the food was even better. Great new additions to the menu as well, keen to try them out.

You can always depend on the Mugg for delicious food and good service. We popped in for a quick lunch. We ordered the house blend and a cappuccino, which came quickly, even though the place was packed. The food arrived shortly after - a bare bacon and mushroom burger, and a chorizo and red pepper frittata, both with a side salad. The food was good and reasonably priced, and we left satisfied.
Sharima Bramannan
This Mugg & Bean is consistently good. I luv their french toast with bacon for breakfast; and their gigantic choc chip muffins. They make a good strong cappuccino.
Maxine Gunzenhauser
I really love this Mugg and Bean specifically (it may be my favourite). I've had wine and dinner, coffee, breakfast, and afternoon tea and cake here, and I am never disappointed. Their specials are always so adventurous - like smores cake and cookie dough hot chocolate - but they maintain their homely next-to-the-fireplace vibe. One of the things that impressed me most was the wine, surprisingly, which was served in gorgeous, thin wine glasses and was served at the perfect temperature. They have also added very appealing dinner items to their menu, like chicken and vegetables (happy banter) - which was phenomenal. The chicken was delicate and exquisite. 👍🏼 Their decadent hot drinks are try-before-you-die forget-the-diet levels of delicious.

We came here for a bite to eat after some shopping, it was absolutely packed and there was 6 of us, and they managed to accommodate us relatively quickly. There was also no power there for some of the food we wanted we could not have, but they did well to help us out. The service was not too bad although I had asked three people including two managers for some glasses of water which took forever. Other than that it was good and will be back.
Divine Rakau
I was here alone waiting for someone who never showed up nevertheless I was not upset as I had the opportunity to try some amazing food I had the lamb with a roast vegetable salad I ended up ordering one more for the road and now the vegetable salad has become a specialty of mine.
Clint Payne
One of the better Mugg and Bean's in town. A "does what it says on the label" place. Great service though, definitely one to return to, if only for the service.
Sebastian Kelly
It's a Mugg & Bean, you know what you will be getting when you order. The staff at the Woodmead branch are particularly friendly, and even go as far as to remember what I order the last time I ate there. I like ordering the Mexican Omelette anytime of day. Jalapeños, onion, and egg, mixed with some Tobasco. Always goes down very well.
Sally Downie
Went with a work colleague for breakfast - they open early during the week so a favorite spot for the locals .. It is always busy. Our waitress was lovely - perhaps a little distracted when we were looking for more coffee but the Manager noticed snd immediately came over which was brilliant. We both had eggs Benedict - mine without the muffin - loads of ham and yummy potato hash brown to go with it .. Lots more coffee before we left and very attentive service after a bit of a slow start.
Dallas Goldswain
The best Mugg of them all, i am a regular and always have a great experience! Great service from waitrons to managers, the owner will pop round and takes time to chat to everyone
Nafisa Akabor
We got here late afternoon and it wasn't that full. Waiters were on the ball and we received good service. We tried the new mango and yoghurt smoothies - it was delicious! I think it's my new favourite summer drink. The yoghurt at the top and bottom cuts the sweetness of the mango. Love the new mugs they are served in. Also had nachos, which as you can see from my photos how much smaller the portion has gotten over the years. Nevertheless it was fresh.
Lisa Tyson
Good service and good food. The current menu is interesting, varied and caters for a wide variety of tastes. Reliable and consistent. Safe choice.
Derek Martin
This mugg and bean is not much different to any other - great coffee and very consistent food!

The one thing that makes this one a little better is the service is amazing, very friendly waiters and very fast kitchen!
Mariangela
Mediocre service. Mediocre food. If not for the company, an overall mediocre experience. Waitress forgot about us, asked for bill three times and cappuccino had been over brewed.
Nafisa Akabor
I like Mugg & Bean, it's one of my old favourites, but unfortunately this branch hasn't impressed me much. I know they're busy most of the time, but so is the Sandton branch yet they cope under pressure. Service here on more than one occasion has been bad and portions not up to standard, especially the salmon breakfast (my mostly standard brunch order). I stopped visiting, much prefer the Sandton branch.
