Probably the best stocked grocery store in Joburg. If you're battling to find something particular, go to Thrupps. I'm fond of their bakery - very well priced for good quality (if not fancy) tarts and biscuits.

Breakfast in Cafe first, then into store to cheese counter for some special Port Salut (expensive but soo worth it) the butcher counter for veal weiner schnitzel. Always friendly helpful staff

Thrupps is often an under-rated store when it comes to prices. We often go in there to pick up pre-made salads, because they are generally excellent value for money. It is also the place to go for a lot of the more "exotic" foods. We find they are a slightly more expensive on the general, average grocery items, but it is a swings and roundabouts in terms of that slight increase and petrol.

I love this shop. The staff are all so friendly and willing to go over and beyond. They always have what I want, especially with products from overseas. It's always so clean and presentable. Makes me want to buy everything.

Really out of the way and hard to find if you dont know it. This review is for the butcher.The meat is ethically sourced and includes free range pork as well as lamb. They are happy to talk you through exactly which farms and companies they source from. Transparency you don't get at most supermarkets. The real kicker is that the ethical meat makes its way into their stunning charcuterie- from the killer bacon to their in house range of sausages. If you live in joburg and only eat ethical meat this is like church.

Thrupps has been going for more than 100 year. The supermarket can be pricey for your daily shop however offers a well stocked deli and international imports that you won't find everywhere.

Thrupps, is a Grocer in a category of its own. Different from most places because if you need anything exotic for your recipe, Thrupps most likely will have it. They have some interesting and intriguing things
