Review Jimmy's Killer Prawns Norwood - Johannesburg

Grrreat food, fantastic venue. Excellent play area for kids. Very pleasant experience, can't wait to try out the buffet next week...

Delicious prawns, the service was questionable though. We arrived at the door and told the receptionist that we have a reservation. We were then interrupted with "just go there" as he motioned towards one of the booths. We sat down and waited, eventually called over to a waiter to announce ourselves (one of 3 parties there). We ordered drinks and right off the bat ordered our entrées and food as well. Boy, did we wait forever for our food to arrive. My husband ordered a 300g sirloin, rare, but what he got was a steak slightly thicker than a minute steak, and cooked all the way through. Since the food had already arrived cold and had taken so long, we decided to just eat it as quickly as possible and get out, since we didn't have the time to wait for another plate to be fixed. The prawns I ordered were divine, although they were a bit on the small side, considering I ordered the Jimmy's giants. The owner was not there that night, and a guy whom I assume was his son, was dealing with any complaints coming in. The lady in an adjacent booth also complained. That her food was taking very long, to which this young guy responded that it always takes to long. Even though she was a regular there and had never waited more than 10 minutes. This young guy then went over to party number 3 and joined them for a hubbly smoke, while the rest of us continued waiting for our food.

Celebrated 1ST birthday party. Venue is perfect for functions. Lots of parking. Setup and assistance with everything was fantastic. Nite function area needs more lighting. Food was good Service was great. Thank u Jimmy's Norwood Team

I ordered through Uber Eats and it was quite possibly the best delivery I’ve had yet. Everything was delicious and I will be visiting in store soon!

I would like to compliment the Management and staff of this restaurant for the excellent service received on Saturday 22nd July 2023. We celebrated my daughter's 30th birthday party. Sharika had everything set out as planned from the table setting and decor to the most delicious and scrumptious food. My family could not stop talking about the food that was so tasty and and its unique flavours. Thank you once again Sharika and team for hosting us and we will definitely be back. Keep up the good work and high standard.

I only give 4 stars instead of 5 because this time wasn't the best I've had from them, couple of issues but not worth complaining. All I will say is the griller needs to only do what he or she can manage, don't do too much while having food on the grill and leaving it on too long. Great service as always 👏

Eid supper was amazing. Tables were so presentable. We ordered the set menu the day before when we got there within 10 mins we got food. It was hot. Everything was so delicious. The waiters were very efficient. Thank you for the amazing service.

It's been a good few years since I've eaten at Jimmy's killer prawns Norwood to my surprise the food was on point. To the staff, managers, owners Keep up the good work 👍

I would highly recommend this restaurant. Azeem and his team are extremely professional and the food is amazing. Lovely atmosphere that never disappoints. Whether you're going for dinner or hosting a function, Jimmys Norwood is the perfect place for both. I also highly recommend purchasing their frozen and prepared chicken and prawns, its an Eid staple in our house. I cannot commend them enough.

Great place to host an intimate family birthday lunch.

We ordered the cheddermalt chips. They are essentially cheesy fries. If you're like me and you like cheese then you'll loooooove this. They're super cheesy and salty. They're also made with skinny fries

Took over an hour to prepare mains - on a day they were quiet. Sad since the food is good but with such bad service I wouldn’t return. Drinks also took forever to arrive

Jimmys and Cravings is part of the Jimmys Killer Prawns complex in Fordsburg. It serves novelty drinks and desserts which are beautifully presented. Expect creations like sugar factory mocktails that "smoke" as they are poured -which will fascinate little ones. Gelato served in doughnut or churro cones. I had a chicken savoury waffle which I enjoyed however the burger, which is a new addition to the menu, was very flimsy and my husband didn't enjoy it.  The service could have been better as well.

One of my top experiences in Jimmys Killer Prawns! Best Butternut in the WORLD! Prawns were succulent and the variety of flavors in one dish makes the experience magnificent. The cocktails are refreshing and colourful. Overall one amazing spot!

*old review* a while back i went out with the boys to the famous monday each as much prawns as you like. I have never seen men devour that many plates each. It just kept coming and they just kept eating. The food was really good and we had a lovely evening. Unfortunately my pictures are rather blur think i was in shock with thr amount of food they consumed

Jimmys killer prawns in fordsburg has an amazing new place for more people to enjoy some killer prawns! The prawns were lovely and spicy and grilled to perfection. We had the buffet on tuesday and the variety was lovely. For a person who doesn't enjoy seafood there was chicken and pasta to meet their needs too. Even if one orders off the menu you won't be disappointed ☆☆ a real must

I've heard so much about the fordsburg jimmy's being the best. Sadly this is not true, to be honest it's the worst one I have been to. The service is terrible, the food comes cold. We were a party of 10 and we're squashed at the table considering the size of the plates are big, and then u have the bowls for the prawn shells, and what makes it worse the restaurant was empty so there was no shortage of space.

Killer is where this is at ... while it may be fully Halaal, making it a great venue, the prawns are so smothered in butter so as to totally take away any taste of the prawn and to clog your arteries ... the sauce does not stick to the prawn, and the prawns are of the lowest quality ... but you cannot expect the best quality when the prices are so low.<br/><br/>This is a place to go with families as it is quite affordable, but should only be once in a while due to the high cholesterol combination of prawn and butter. The sauces are not much to write home about ... they are sub standard and could do with considerable flavour enhancement.<br/><br/>Will not be visiting JKP again

Jimmy's Killer Prawns. I really do not get the craze about it. <br/><br/>For me, service and atmosphere is very important especially in fine dinning and that is definitely not the case at this particular Jimmy's. <br/><br/>While the menu has a great variety of seafood i particularly stick to their prawns and grilled chicken. <br/><br/>The last two times I visited this restaurant the service was disheartening.<br/><br/>The food was very cold and we all know how bad cold prawns are. <br/><br/>For the price range, I would recommend you go elsewhere for prawns because the service really cancels all other redeeming qualities.

Once upon a time, they had excellent service and food. <br/><br/>Unfortunately it's not the case anymore. Recently, I went here with a lot of family members and I have to admit that I was very disappointed. Granted, this time there were quite a few of us - about 15 people - but that doesn't mean that quality of service has to be dropped. In fact, this is the time when your service should be able to shine as it's tested the most.<br/><br/>We waited for 30 minutes before our starters arrived. We only ordered table salads and garlic rolls as starters. It was not fresh at all and we were quite disappointed.<br/>We waited a further 30-45 minutes after our starters were taken away before our mains were served. We couldn't understand why it took so long when the majority of us ordered seafood platters to share. <br/><br/>The food was average - not their usual standard - but the mocktails were delicious.<br/><br/>After being so disappointed in service quality, we still haven't been back.<br/>I truly hope that they work on their service as it's quite disappointing to have to wait that long for a meal.
