Review Adega Fordsburg - Johannesburg

I really enjoyed Adega today. My dad's fish was excellent. He ordered the Kingklip special. My mum ordered a Gluten free Kingklip special. It was a bit overcooked but it was still tasty. We ordered the Dynamite prawns as a starter and it was amazing. The best starter I've had in a long time. The pineapple and mango mocktail wasn't so nice but our awesome waitress Elisabeth took it back with a smile and they didn't charge. I ordered the Strawberry daiquiri and it still is the best in the whole wide world. The mint mocktail was nice too. Nice vibe and quiet ♥️

Wonderful and warm ambience. Friendly service. Food is prepared and served fresh and hot. Stuffed calamari and/or chicken livers starters. Prawns are juicy and slip easily out of the shells. Delicious

Visiting from the UK, recommended by family. Absolutely amazing prawns!

We visited during the week day, so it was very quite. The presentation was in order. Felt the prawns were not fresh or over cooked. I was under the impression that the gratuity given to the waiters was voluntary, it was actually part of the bill. I especially enjoyed the 🍟.

Excellent halaal restaurant. Good service with delicious food. Always popular with my family. Although famous for seafood we love the chicken and my son loves the pasta. Stuffed calamari starter is well worth a try

The food is nice. Presentation excellent. The seafood is fresh(you pay the price for that). Service satisfactory as long as it's not crowded(even though you're paying for 10%, their service is not worth so much). Not bad for once in a while eat out .

First time at this Adega Branch, visited during the week and was a bit sceptical when we found the place empty. However, when our meal was presented to us, the presentation was on point and the meal was freshly prepared hot and delicious. The waiter was very pleasant and professional. The price is affordable so we will definitely be frequent guests.

Not a fan of Fordsburg but this restaurant is one of the reasons I go there. Amazing Portuguese chicken and Prawns. For sides u have to add on the veg and a pasta and lastly close off with the homemade ice cream. Go with a group as most people do. Very reasonable pricing. Tips are included in the bill and the service is always great. Strictly halaal and no alcohol is served or consumed on the premises.

What a great place this was when it opened. Recently it has declined with regards to service and I often visit to find things unavailable or out of stock. The other day the oven was broken so no garlic roll!? Absurd. However the LM Chicken is simply unparalleled and that alone is worth 2 stars. Sometimes you don't care about a venue - food is good enough to overlook the rest!

Consistently good tasting food. Good portions, great friendly service. The place gets very busy so book in advance and preferably in the outside area because the inside area often gets quite noisy.

Just enjoyed an awesome lunch with good friends. Always professional service and excellent food from this particular branch! I've been enjoying their steaks, prawns and chicken for years. That peri peri sauce! 😋🌶🌶🌶

Food here is delicious. I recommend the stuffed calamari. The prawn pasta and the chicken. They have a decadent chocolate dessert that is rich but yummy. Share with someone. Drinks are exciting (non alcoholic) but too sweet. Good service! We liked a waiter naned mccloud.

Great setup. Great food. You wont be disappointed. Flavours are great and would return. Even contemplated eating here everyday during my stay in jozi.

Everyone in my family has their favourite dish at Adega. I love their prawns, my husband’s favourite is the LM Chicken, my daughter always goes for the pasta and my picky son simply has to order the garlic bread and halloumi cheese. So what do we do? We order one of each and ensure that everyone is happy . And of course, the creative mocktails, unique milkshakes and decadent dessert don’t hurt either! Delicious food, attentive service and great ambience

Had a really bad experience at Adega Fordsburg tonight found a strand of hair in the food really disappointed the waiter offered us a free dessert in compensation but the owner did not approach us or enquire about the situation at all despite being there. Sad to see adega going the way of the rest of the fordsburg restaurants.
Tasty food, big portions and generous helpings of cream in their sauces make this spot one to return to. I really enjoy the prawn dishes and they make excellent fries. Their starter menu is also very good, love the prawn rissoles and stuffed calamari

Have been here quite a few times and we keep coming back coz the lm chicken is just soooo mouthwatering 😍 i do love it and it never dissapoints..went for an early family lunch and they were not busy but still the service was poor..we ordered the trinchado as a starter and on the menu it says it comes with bread but when we were served there was no bread it came with? When I enquired I was told it's the complimentary bread that we got served..a few minutes later my waiter returns with fresh warm bread saying here it is..the trinchado was a huge dissapointment it tasted like barbecue steak and nothing like Portuguese trinchado steak..the lm chicken came all cut up even though I asked for it not to be and re-iterated twice..the chicken was nontheless devine and frankly the only reason I come here..bad service and we forced to pay a 10% service fee???

We ordered 2 garlic bread and 2 LMA chicken when we went to pick up our order staff said they are sold out with garlic bread they don't inform before when taking takeaway orders this is 4th time it happen to us last time they forget to gave bread in our order then in chips packet they gave us rice I think staff need to be given more training and management have to be responsible

Booked a set menu for gran dad's birthday, so options were limited.
Starters was tempura prawns served with sweet chilli, as well as haloumi. Tempura batter was way too thick-not light and crispy as it should be. Haloumi was good, great texture and not too salty.
For mains I had a monk steak with peppercorn sauce on the side served with chips. Very good steak, and the chips were addictive. I tried my moms serving of veg, butternut and spinach and I was pleasantly surprised as how good it was.
Dessert was ice cream with biscuit and chocolate. Delicious.
Service was lacking throughout and we waited 1 hour for mains.

Great choice for a lazy evening dinner, lots of options to keep your conversations going. The steak and the calamari were heavenly. Great service, good ambience, the rain added some extra points.

I've been to Adega Fordsburg many times and 9/10 times the service ends up being slow and bad. Irrespective of this we are forced to fork out a service fee of 10%. I don't mind the service fee if the service is worth paying for. I was even charged a 10% service on a Take away meal once... Adega Fordsburg needs to step up their game. The only thing keeping them busy is the fact that the food is good.

A great meal always! The food is always fresh and of the best quality. Great spices which give it that unique taste. Definitely worth the cost which is slightly higher than the average place.

I have eated at Adega fordsburg on a few occasions - somehow quite rarely on a busy Saturday evening. Service was slow- which was disappointing, considering that it is an established restaurant so i expected it to be well equipped to manage a busy saturday evening crowd.
Food however- divine as always - i opted for Monk steak, well done with side of chips : steak was tender, juicy & perfect to my preference. For dessert - the home made ice cream is superb!! Served in a wafer bowl, it has the perfect balance between ice cream flavour, sweetness & nuts. I tasted the Sally Williams dessert as well- the berry sorbet provides a sour flavour which contrasts the sweetness of the nougat base - recommended for those who enjoy little bit of sour to their sweet.

The place is usually packed during the weekend, booking in advance will be best, I particularly loved their prawn espetada as well as the hake fillets

The seafood, as would be expected at Adega, is delicious, although the restaurant is relatively pricey, when compared to options like Kashif's up the road. I once made the mistake of ordering a steak here and it was totally horrible. They should just remove it off the menu. Stick to the seafood, especially the prawns, and the chicken.

It does get busy on the weekend, so be aware of that. At one stage, they were known for telling people who they seated that they had to be done with their meals in a certain amount of time (an hour, if I recall correctly). Having a countdown timer on one's meal must be an awful experience. Although I sympathise with their predicament, I hope they don't do this anymore - customer satisfaction has to trump table-turning.

Adega has become one of my favourite restaurants which is why I frequent it often. They offer a variety of Portuguese dishes that are well spiced and delicious.

Adega are famous for their prawns and chicken. Both dishes are presented well and are drizzled with flavour. In my opinion the two dishes are above average, which would explain why I continue going there.

Adega gets very busy at times, especially on weekends so it would be in your best interest to phone in and reserve a table. On a busy day their service isn't as good as their food which is why I didn't score it so high.

I suggest visiting it on a not so busy day.

Service excellent , I like the fact that speaking to the staff gives you a great idea of what to expect , and it's exactly as they say it ... I have no complaints - the food was superb and the entire family enjoyed it - and the offer of drinks is so stunning.

Delicious Portuguese cuisine. Service is great. Make a reservation for weekends

Visited this branch with work colleagues. We were given a set menu with prawn tempura as a starter, Half chicken and rice as a main and the peppermint tart as a dessert. All 3 courses were fantastic. The sauces used were delicious. The prawn tempura cooked perfectly, crispy batter on the outside and juicy on the inside. The dessert was a perfect end to a great meal. Will be back here soon. Amazing

Adega is a great restaurant to celebrate a special occasion.

The menu is mostly indulgent with a great Portuguese twist.

My all time favorites are their Portuguese chicken and their prawn pasta.

Adega has a very relaxed atmosphere while the decor is average.

Although I hate the fact that it gets extremely full particularly on Friday and Saturday evenings.

It gets so full at times that the dinning experience could become annoying.

Their dessert menu is good, not great.

Mostly, its great for family dinners.

Adega is normally known for their seafood, which has a Portuguese flavour to it. Their prawns are grilled to perfection and come with a variety of sauces which you can spoon over your prawns to give it extra flavour. I normally favour the lemon butter sauce, but the peri-peri sauce is pretty excellent if used sparingly. Even though Adega is known for their seafood, don't forget to try their peri-peri chicken. It's absolutely delicious! Their mocktails are wonderful as well. I like eating at Adega when it's a little bit quieter because it can get really noisy during meal times.

I love the Portuguese flavours at Adega. I find the decor and ambience average. It's a very family oriented restaurant but not one where you would take a date. If you are four people seated at a table it can be quiet cramped. The menu is quite extensive and offers sushi, pasta, chicken, meat and seafood. There is not a great number of vegetarian options so either can have the salad, the pasta or a combination of starters. The grilled sole was very nice. No visit to Adega is complete without tasting the yummy prawns.

Like many of the eateries in the Fordsburg area it tends to get busy over the weekends so make a booking . The clientele is mainly families so except a chatty busy atmosphere.

Their shellfish is scrumptious and I especially like that it comes served in chafing dishes which keeps the meal warm.

The lemon butter flavored prawn is my preference and their vegetable side options are very good.

The creamy prawn pasta is quite good. The servings are big so expect to take home some.

I haven't tried their meat options but they do cater for those that do not like seafood as well.
