Very nice place, friendly staff, food was good, I enjoyed the lamb shank, our concern about the desert was properly addressed by management giving us a very good experience at the restaurant, I would recommend this place to everyone. There is also a kids play area so the kids were occupied
Wouter De beer
The best food I have had in a while in JHB! Service from Nolly was excellent and professional! Would Highly recommend this place! Value for money

Great experience me & the Mrs had! Great food & great staff. Will definitely be visiting again soon.
Benjamin Governor
Great dishes, well prepared and presented. A lot of people bring their kids here - sometimes cute, sometimes annoying.

Loved the food, loved the service. The restaurant was clean, relaxing. Its perfect for a date or a family outing. Must say they prepared our food fast and our waiter, Talent, was awesome 😁

Lovely restaurant.. nice decor and exquisite..
Cornelis Snoek
The staff was super friendly and courteous. Very classy vibe and the food was delicious. Prawns and shrimps were very tasty. I liked the spices added to all the food, especially the chips and chicken, which was cooked superbly soft. I was not disappointed when the dessert menu was presented as a tray with samples of what could be selected for dessert, that's just me though. Some people might like that form of menu
Marconi Porto
It's a nice huge restaurant that needs people to bring it to life. The food ordered was great! The oysters were huge for a great price. The wine selection was very acceptable but the staff were just awesome! Live music I guess on Fridays and Saturdays. Would return.

This place is so beautiful, and the bar section is so cozy. The food is absolutely amazing! I would recommend their prawns they are cooked to perfection! They can do any cocktail you ask for. This is a really nice place to come with family or friends.
Sipho Shelembe
It's a nice family restaurant, kids play in the kids area, chilled live music (there was a skilled guitarist on the night), food is good quality, Portuguese flavoured grills are good. Friendly waitors, good service, they didn't have what we ordered so they made up for it by giving us free desert. Definitely one of our family's favourite.

Awesome place, great vibe and the live entertainment was amazing. Had the lamb chops wasn't the most amazing. . Meat was tough sadly. . Then I had the bar one cake which was presented beautifully but was stale having been refrigerated. Still a great night out though.
Warren Samuel
Awesome place for the family. Has a kids section as well. Only fault I found was needs proper air-conditioning unit. Food is amazing, was my third time back and this time brought the whole family. Their service was on point as well since we were such a large group they had two waiters attend to us.
Martin Hattingh
The Waiters are super friendly and the service is absolutely fantastic. Quick, respectful, calm. And the Food is awesome... Thanks to everyone at the Restaurant. And the atmosphere they create inside is relaxing all you need after a long days work. Keep it up guys.

We went there on a Sunday. First we asked if the accepted The Entertainer (they were on the App), they told us yes only for someone to later tell us that they were not. By this time we had ordered drinks and therefore we decided to stay. It was carvery/buffet day and we ordered that. Big mistake! It is pricey but they made a big thing about their prawns. But, it didn't take us long to see the feeding frenzy. A couple of tables were like vultures. Once the prawns came out these tables would take ALL of it. It was so bad that a lady (there for her birthday) ordered extra prawns from the menu just to get some. Paying double. We asked about this and the manager just laughed it off. It was really crazy to see how people attacked the food. It was my worst eating-out experience in many years, possibly ever. The place is also quite dated and is very expensive for what you get. My suggestion is not to ever go there. It is terrible! You will have a better time buying a burger from a burger van, eating it on a street corner and burning a R200 note.

I was surprised at the service we received for my first time at The Boss. After the power was off in our area, we decided to try out a new place we had come across on the Entertainer App. Although The Boss also didn’t have power, everything g is freshly cooked on a gas griller and we weren’t disappointed at all. Our waiter was absolutely amazing! Thank you Bonelle, you looked after us! We definitely will be back

This was my first visit to The Boss and I was pleasantly surprised by the spacious and ambient atmosphere. Brenda our waitress was wonderful and friendly and just added to the vibe. The food was very good. 👍The only negative is that the decor is a bit dated and in need of a little upgrade. On the whole we had a lovely family dinner and thank you to The Boss. Will definitely be back some time

The Waiter was nice and professional and that’s about it! The food was way too salty !! All the waiter could say was I’ll bring more lemon butter sauce to neutralize it...even with that ,food was still not palatable -certainly not worthy the time and money spent - could have gone elsewhere.

I did not get a Portuguese feel from the menu, but it is an upper class steakhouse and the execution didn't disappoint. I struggled to choose between mains, but my rump with bacon & blue cheese sauce was perfect, as well my wife's calamari & prawns. Because I struggled to make a choice, I'm compelled to return and test the other choice (trinchado, calamari & Chorizo)

A good experience
Friendly service from Musi
The prawn and chicken special was very well priced and extremely tasty
Food was quick as well
One of our guests had the Big Boss Kingklip which was extremely juice and saucy to everyones liking.

Will visit again and try the sunday buffet
Tharina Grayson
The buffet was really good and so was our service. We were a big group so we had 2 waitrons who attended to us often. However, the chairs were horrendously dirty - we were skeptical to even sit down. The manager also gave us the wrong table - he promised us a nice big table at the back of the restaurant but when we arrived we were seated in the middle section and there was not enough chairs for everyone.
Cassy Sweets
Went there for lunch over the weekend, had their steak and it was really really good. The bread we received before our meal came straight out of the oven. They had relaxing music playing in the background and the restaurant itself feels very cosy. I really enjoyed it there and im definitely going back.

Went for date night dinner last night. Had the seafood platter for 2. The food was presented beautifully (other tables came to see what we got 😄) and was delicious!! Be sure to ask for some of the homade peri-peri - yumyum. Couple of minor wrong orders (eg rice instead of veg) which is why I gave 4 stars instead of 5; these were corrected promptly and with no quibbling. The live music started at 8pm - we were seated furthest from it so had no issues with loudness - we even sang along 😄
Really great place - will definitely become a regular for us.

What a CRAPY Service It was shocking to wait for food for over an hour and half and as such I walked out without eating .

Not worth it..... They must just close the damn restaurant.

What a waste of my time !
If there was a negative score I would rathe The Boss - 💯...
I’m a livid 😡

We were invited by family to join them for the Sunday Buffet. The Manager/owner interacts with the tables leaving a good feel. The food is tasty especially all you can eat prawns and ribs amongst other dishes. The restaurant should however pay more attention to the quantity prepared. Options were finished and could not be replenished.
Zane Zane
Although the food is excellent, the price is very reasonable. Steak was fantastic. Chicken dishes were great. Side veggies were fresh and delicious. All-round pleasant experience. I will be back soon to sample the seafood portion of the menu.
Cayla Riley
I came here for my birthday dinner , the service was shocking , some of our orders were wrong and completely over cooked and dry . It was not the best evening .
Monique Steenekamp
Food was tasty- we had the lamb shank and oxtail which was on special and reasonably priced. (basically everything was on special) The wine list needs to be updated because they have a bigger selection than showed on the menu, we only found out because the wine bottles are displayed around the restaurant. We ordered the cheesecake to share for dessert and it was more like a scrambled cheesecake- not good. The manager was very nice though, brought over another dessert (chocolate fudge cake) and it was okay.
Jessica Leanne Carrington
Food was delicious. I had perfectly tender grilled calamari in harissa sauce. Live music was fabulous. Excellent all round. Thank you for the experience!
Sue Scheepers Maree
A hide-away gem! Steak was cooked to perfection and the sides to die for! Waiter fantastic! Had a chat to the manager, lovely lady! Overall a very nice eve! Will most certainly be back. The Sunday Buffet sound awesome!

Deafening entertainment, continuous long waits and wrong orders.

Promised a great ambience. Although, as suggested by the other reviewers, the live entertainment was deafening. To top it all off, the waitron got the order wrong and brought it to my table, I tried to cancel it. I was then told that it’ll still be charged to my bill. So I had to endure an unsolicited wait as well as a dish I didn’t really want anymore. Once the dish arrived at my table (The traditional Alfredo, which is known to have a creamy sauce, chicken, mushroom and ham) the order was incorrect YET AGAIN. It was STEAK, mushroom in a creamy sauce and NO ham. I asked the waiter to take it away and for it not to appear on my bill. Very disappointed, had high expectations. Shocking service!

This was my third visit to the restaurant one being a birthday dinner, then having purchased a voucher and this Sunday for the mothers day buffet, On all occasions it was absolutely well worth it and the food was up to standard, The food ordered came as we expected , and the waiter was attentive and actually remembered us from previous visits. The managers were very attentive and always asked if we were still fine or needed anything, And being a buffet this Sunday, they made sure to check that the dishes were always topped up when needed. The food was lovely and compliments to the chef, very well done.

My wife and I decided too go out for dinner. Right next to Adega’s was the boss. A friendly waiter told us about their specials and we changed our mind and gave it a try.

The place really looked wonderful and had a dinner/dance type of vibe. Menu was packed with a huge variety of dishes and this made me worry just a little.

We ordered the creamy garlic snails for starters and this was really good. For mains we ordered The Boss Kingklip and Oxtail. Both dishes were really good and even though the kingklip was R229 I felt that it was a sizable portion and well worth the money.

The service from the waiter was on point and attentive. He didn’t hover about and he looked after us really well.

There is a downside too this place however.....their “live” entertainment. Some women with a microphone and backtracks from her phone doesn’t sit well with me.

Would I come back......for the food and service.....
Natalia Bonegio
A lovely, spacious restaurant with a classy feel and large dance floor!

The food is delicious. I had a steak with veggies and chips, done perfectly to my liking. Our waiter was warm, friendly, and on the ball! The house red wine is also great. The managers on duty were attentive and professional. The live entertainment on Valentine's day was such a treat! I'll definitely be back!
Virginie Lopes
Great service, well spoken and attentive waiter. Food was delicious. Even on a very busy night with a full house food did not take to long. Really nothing to fault ďż˝

We have been to this restaurant often because on the first few visits the food was great. However, the 'live entertainment' is awful and much too loud, so the atmosphere is not great. When the quality of the food declined we had a few awful experiences. Since then, the prices have gone up, but it really is a hit-and-miss affair - I've ended up with some unappetizing meals that made me wish we had stayed home for supper, though I had ordered them before and enjoyed them. The service is good, but on our last two visits there were several arguments among the staff and management near the bar where we were sitting, which was quite disruptive and stressful.
Helen Slabber
The place lacks the ambience we were hoping for when we went here for a date night. My husband ate a burger that was very good, but I was left disappointed by the seafood pasta that was full of crab sticks and chewy calamari, and was topped with a single prawn in it's shell (there was other shelled prawn meat in the pasta). The pasta's base sauce was delicious and had so much potential if it weren't for the low quality seafood that was used - not worth the R149 spent. Very strange advertising pamphlets on display on the table seemed out of place for a classy restaurant. The food presentation was beautiful however.

I won't recommend The Boss Restaurant to people. Just thinking of this restaurant and it's
food, makes me feel sick to my stomach.
Their food is not fresh, as I got food poisoning after eating at this
restaurant. No wonder the place was so
empty. And on top of it, they charge a
huge service fee which they include on top of the bill. The money paying for the food and the huge
service fee is not worth going to this place.
This restaurant is a waste of money and you end up paying for food
poisoning.
ASHTON SAMUELS
Best Burger, great layout, wonderful and pleasant staff - from start to finish everything was perfect, was my first time here and could not ask for a better experience - will be back.

I bought a voucher and then looked on Zomato and was expecting the worst. What a surprise! We went for a hugely busy lunch day (15/12) but service was good and food perfectly prepared - from a rare fillet to a welldone steak for my Phillistine colleague :-) Not fine dining but nothing to complain about. Thorougly enjoyed.

The longest 3 hours of my life. The food took so long by the time we left I was hungry again.
I think the restaurant is too big and lacks personality. The entertainment was horrible and does not belong in a restaurant, not even in a low class pub to be honest. We had to shout at each other the entire evening and were ever so thankful every time the entertainer took a break.
The food although what I ordered was not really that bad took forever to come out. My waiter had the audacity to disagree with me when I told him that the snails he brought me were lemon butter and not the gorgonzola as I ordered. He actually told me to taste it first. Guess what, it was lemon butter I don’t have to taste it if the one comes in butter sauce and the other in a creamy cheese sauce. You can kind of see it and smell it. Our table ordered lamb shanks and calamari. We all know lamb shanks are made in advance and just heated up as people order it as it takes time to soften and develop flavour. We all know calamari takes but a few minutes to cook. We waited 45 min for the mains. We waited 45 minutes for the starters. We ordered two deserts, a crème brule (again made in advance) and a chocolate mousse (again made in advance) and waited 45 minutes for this as well. Im not sure if they do this so that you must have more to drink? The crème brule was more of watery custard just thrown in a ramekin and an exorbitant amount of vanilla essence, the aftertaste was a bit sour so not sure if they tried to mask this with the vanilla essence. I did not like my waiter or his attitude, the entertainment sucks big time. My friend who invited us had purchased vouchers from them but I could see on my friends face when the bill came it was a bit more than expected. I did not ask out as it would have been rude but I did see the bill briefly when he opened it and the figure was quite big if you take into account it was just drinks. I will not go there out of my own accord. It is a pity as the food was not too bad but the entire experience just left a very bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended)

Simply the worst meal I have had in a very long time. My husbands steak arrived after my fish. We waited 1 hour for meal from time of ordering. There were only 3 tables occupied in the restaurant. Steak was ice cold. Sent back. By the time it arrived again I had finished my salty kingklip straight out of a frozen packet. Paid over R500 for the pleasure. Never again

On entering what seems like an upmarket restaurant we were deafened by the loud, overwhelmingly displeasing entertainm ent. This instantly changes the ambience from classy to sleezy. My family place our order and 55 minutes later we receive our food : a kilo of tasteless powdery prawns ( the only hot dish received due to it being served over a burner), lamb shank which was more like a stew and an LM grilled chicken which was completely under seasoned and flavourless despite our order being for medium. On complaining to the waitress about the chicken she said " I saw you added peri peri sauce to the chicken, didn't it help ? " ). Next, arrived a tray with a variety of cling wrapped desserts for us to choose from. With great hope for a sweet satisfying end to our dissappointing meal we ordered Strawberry Cheesecake, Creme Brulee and Chocolate Mousse...... stale, stodgy, fridge-smell, platic, disgusting are just some of the words my 12 year old boys used to describe dessert! It's not just the food and poor entertainment choice that lets the place down but also the untidy cubicle at the entrance, cheesy decor items and the lack of attention or interest of staff and management. Save your money and dinner night out for somewhere that is worth it !

STAY AWAY! Absolutely shocking!

Those of us who live in Northcliff have experienced many restaurants in this space. Cattle Barron, Legends, Bief on 14th and now The Boss. To be honest when Legends look over from the Cattle Barron they did a few renovations but since then it's exactly the same. Same decor, furniture etc. They have all been very similar restaurants in terms of menus and food. I really enjoyed this space, after Legends turned into Bief on 14th they kept up the good food but did become quite pricey. We seemed to all go along with it because it was worth it!

When The Boss opened we where excited to try them out. The first thing we noticed was that things had definitely gotten more expensive but we didn't let that stop us from experiencing them. They where okay, nothing special but not bad, definitely not worth the prices though. Since then they have slowly disinterested into a shameful mess.

Every so often I give them another try hoping they have gotten better but unfortunately it's just the opposite. You wait so long for anything to come out the kitchen, the meat is definitely not the best quality, everything else is frozen and defrosted... even the bread rolls! The last time I went they arrived at the table still frozen inside!

Very disappointing.

This was one of the worst dining experiences.

The chef does not know how to cook a steak and took three attempts to deliver a medium steak.

The waiter was also completely rude and insisted that I accept a well done steak as it was medium.

After we spoke to the manager, they proceeded to have a screaming match about the issue after which I got a medium-well steak.

The other food we ordered was mediocre at best and does not warrant the price charged for it.

The food is below par and the service even lower. I will never set foot in that place again.
Adrienne Milner
Very good service. Will definitely be back. Live music and nice atmosphere. Menu has lots of choice. Ideal if you live in the neighborhood and want a nice night out

Mussels were delicious, t-bone was juicy with fresh, tasty vegetables! The decor is beautiful with a lovely, friendly atmosphere! Definitely worth a visit.

We had a lovely experience at The Boss on Tuesday evening!
Since we moved to Randburg, and being fanatic foodies ourselves, we have been on a mission to try out all the restaurants in the area and give our views. The Boss definitely did not disappoint!

Although quiet (given it was Tuesday and in the middle of the month), the ambiance was cozy, a great selection of soft soothing music in the background, and even though this is considered fine dining, we felt comfortable taking our 4-year old with (by the way, he LOVED the kiddies spaghetti bolognaise...not at all 'sour' as tomato-based dishes sometimes tend to be.)

Also, our waitress did a great job (thank you Megan), and her advice was spot-on.

Our food was of course awesome:
For starters, we had the gongonzola snails. It was REALLY good and not at all overpowering (as some blue cheese sauces tend to be). The mussels too were perfectly done.

Mains: The oxtail was soft as a baby's cheek and falling off the bone. The Big Boss rump steak and ladies fillet was perfectly medium-grilled, and the Eisbein was soft, juicy and the crackling that came with it was a winner. Compliments to the chef!

For dessert there was malva pudding (freshly made and not out of prepacked bowls) and a THICK homemade custard. The peppermint crisp tart was good too and not all like the 'instant-pudding' version some restaurants serve.

Overall we had a great experience and will definitely return with more friends in the near future.
Food Lover Deluxe
From The Cattle Baron, to Legends, to Bife and now The Boss, this not so little restaurant struggles on. The decor has not changed much over the years, the menus have altered according to the newest style (but not by much), and prices have remained average.
Staff turnover has been on the high side and, despite a cordial welcome and good bye, service during the meal is sometimes lacking. The waitrons (and manager) do not keep an eye on the tables.
The meals I have sampled have been tasty and good value for money, but nothing exceptional.
As a convenient local eatery, I'll return often, especially since most places are closed on a Monday. P.S Tonight my food was cold and I had to search for a waitron. Perhaps I'll think twice before returning?
P.P.S The service was FAR better when it was Bife.
P.P.P.S When I spoke to the manager, his reaction was total disinterest; forget any attempt at an apology or rectification.
I wonder what this restaurant will be called next?

Regarding the comment from the restaurant:
What utter nonsense. I was never on my phone (and will gladly produce the logs to show this). The food and the plate arrived cold and I was unable to attract the attention of a single waiter, all of whom were chatting around the bar area, without standing up and beckoning. I suspect the food stood in the kitchen waiting to be fetched by one of the chatting waiters. The manager wouldn't know any better because he remained closeted in his reception area for almost the entire evening and certainly never came to check on my table or the table next to mine.
Margaux De Wet
Bang average. Quick bite on a Sunday after church - oysters had a bizarre after taste to which the manager said they never had a complaint. I had calamari - not much of a taste and my husband got served powdery prawns. Unfortunately they won't see us again.
Candice Korb
AMAZING! The food was impeccable (we had the seafood platter for 2)..hands down the best seafood I have ever had in my life! The service was that of a 5* restaurant! The venue is breathtakingly beautiful..We will absolutely be back!! This is a true hidden gem.
Steve Corkhill
We went on a quiet Friday lunchtime for the advertised lobster specials. When we arrived the power was off and the place was in darkness and empty ! However they were more then happy to accommodate us and as luck would have it the power came back on within 10 minutes.
The food was top notch. Huge lobster thermidor and a lobster thermidor/calamari combo were on special and cooked perfectly. Chicken and rib combo was also great.
I've seen a couple of bad reviews for the Boss but our experience was great. We will be back, probably for the Sunday buffet. Great service from Brenda too.
James Sander
It was an absolutely pathetic experience.
We ordered our food at 19:00 and by 21:00 we still had not received our meals.
The waiter was never present at our table and we had to shout to get the attention of a different waiter.
The few times our waiter was actually present he told me 4 times that our food is almost ready, or just 5 more minutes.
On top of the entire experience of absolutely poor service, was a DJ/Entertainer that made so much noise that you could not even hear yourself talk.
To top off an evening of utter disappointment, was when I went to the bathroom just to find that someone got sick all over the floor and toilet and nobody even bothered to clean it up.

This establishment must wonder why they are empty on a Friday evening at 19:00, maybe this review will give you some insight.

I promise you that The Boss will never ever see me again, and I will never refer any of my friends or family to your establishment.

You are a disgrace to the cullinary service industry and the only reason you aren't getting a big fat 0 is because 1 is the lowest rating I can give.

Disgusting and pathetic.
Herman Perry
My local steakhouse, opened under a new name(again). Nice winelist and good menu. Had a very tasty Fillet with good red wine. Will be back. Even menu for kids.
Carole Craggs
Lovely dĂŠcor that suggested we were about to have an amazing upmarket experience, however looks can be deceiving. The food is down to earth and family style. The portions are generous and the food tasty. We received great service from Lovemore. We were a little surprised with the mobile dessert menu - Lovemore brought a tray of desserts for us to view wrapped in cling film, to be honest we ordered dessert because we liked him, and not because the desserts looked particularly good. We had a Roman cream and a grenadilla cheese cake. Both reminded me of the instant desserts we are as children. All in all, this is probably a nice place to pop out for a family supper if you live close by and enjoy large portions of meat, but it's not quite my style.
Sandra Braga
What a real gem we found in Northcliff. Great vibe, service is best I have had in a long time and the food ..... hooooo my goodness I even saw people taking photos of their plates. Apparently music is for all tastes and different every weekend.

@modestos

Lovely restaurant, great peri peri chicken.
Pity about the live music, whoever hired him should be shot. He raped every song he tried to sing. The bass was so loud it felt like someone was banging on by head with a hummer.
We did not have dessert because could not stay any longer and listen to this noise.
If you want your establishment to succeed get new entertainment .

Enjoyed lovely vibe great food. Value for money.will be back soon... well priced wines wonderful cocktails. Their specials are amazing. Their sunday buffet is real value for money large variety including prawns... well done
