Review Sushi Burrito And Co - Johannesburg

Nicolette Naidoo
The starters are fantastic. The chicken wings and tacos are filled with tantalizing flavor. The main course and dessert lacked the spark I required.
Nafisa Akabor
I loved everything about this place from the cute decor to a great menu. It's not overwhelming where you can't decide what you want, but I will be back to try other dishes. The tostada starters are great in spicy tuna. We asked for the edamame to be spiced too. The spicy salmon sushi burrito and tempura prawn were good, fresh. Word of advice the crunchy roll is messier than traditional seaweed exterior. Will be back for poke bowls.
Chris Fox
Great fusion food in a trendy environment. Mixed feelings on the Sushi Burrito, however the wonton chips and the Duck Bao were delicious and I would eat it again and again!
Shihaam Abrahams
Great ambience, fantastic service and the fresh of really amazing!

I liked the fun approach to an interesting mash-up of Mexican and Japanese food! The restaurant is bright and vibrant - for me, more of a day time spot, or good for fast food at night as it's not intimate and cozy. We tried the prawn spring rolls, chicken katsu burrito and the pork katsu don and these were all interesting and tasty. The crunch coating the sushi burrito was good, but you need to remind yourself to expect a cold roll... just as with sushi! While the sushi burrito was crammed with filling, the bao (buns) that someone else ordered appeared to lack filling. The service was good here. It's worth a try, even if just to see whether you agree that Mexican and Japanese food can be mixed!

Nice concept.. a bit pricey.

awesome fusion food with some popular classics. Loved the bao and the teriyaki chicken udon noodles. If you love Asian food you'll come here again for sure.

Good experience, would recommend the hit buns... a little pricy but of your in the mood for sushi it might be worth the splurge
Jarrod Todd
Brilliant food, so fresh and well prepared. Service was also professional and friendly.
Inger Hoffeldt
Love the staff and the sushi it just needs a vibe, music or something too quiet lots of potential though
Ros Modlin
Lovely and casual restaurant in Melrose Arch. Food fresh and well-prepared. Very tasty.

Great sushi, awesome service. I love the place

Wow! Walking into this colorful funky space you can’t help but smile. Warmly greeted, we settled in to plan our adventure through their Asian/Latin inspired menu, all the while sipping herbals teas. No alcohol served. I recommend the mint, lemongrass and cinnamon tea with a drop of honey! Starters were light morsels of chicken skewers and crab spring rolls, next was the star of the show, the very generously sized sushi burrito’s. I was in ecstasy, next visit skipping the starters going straight for the burrito so I have room for a poké bowl. I personally preferred the nori on the outside, crunch inside, you can have it the other way round. Really enjoyed the way they prepared the wasabi, so smooth. Def be back for their Fri/Sat specials. Week nights are quite, perfect for date night or a large party. A new favorite 🍣

I really like this spot, there food and drinks are amazing, i have been here about 4 or 5 times, found this spot on a restaurant week , they have these soft bun, i dont know how to describe them little fluffy buns, the best thing ever 😋

Food is good.
Atmosphere is quiet, doesn’t have many people going there and there is no background music.
Waiters are welcoming.
Service is slow.
This place has so much potential but it just doesn’t have a vibe. The food is different and interesting, I feel like if it was in a different location it would be pumping, also the food is kinda expensive so if they lowered their prices and maybe had more specials, people would definitely come to the restaurant more often.
Samuel Da Fonseca
Food was very average, not very appetising at all. The floors and furniture were also disgustingly dirty, and for the price you pay. It's not worth it.

I went here with a few friends for an early dinner. We got such great value for money as there was a R99 promo on when we went. We all ordered a sushi burrito, a drink and got a side of sweet potato chips for only R99. The burrito was really amazing. I had the salmon burrito and could not complain. It was a big portion and filling. I would recommend going for a burrito as it is in the name and their specialty. I would also say get it with the crunchy outside as this gives it some more texture and taste
The service was great and fast but we were the only people there so I would not expect any less than that.
The walls are decorated nice but I think not a lot of people know about them yet as there was no vibe to place.

Overall we had a good time and great food!

01/06/2018

My friend and I went to this restaurant for a lovely catch up, we had the all you can eat sushi.

The scenery
Quite cold and not welcoming, no vibe on a Friday night, the seating is so canteen like, it’s not Cosy at all.
I wouldn’t recommend going there on a cold winter night, I think it’s best for lunch or a good afternoon on a Saturday.

The service
The waiters are friendly and attentive.

The food
The sushi was dry and when I mean dry I’m talking about the rice consistency on all the options we chose, I didn’t enjoy it as much. The hand rolls in particular were very dry and was mostly just rice than anything!

The fact that it was all you can eat is what was more enjoyable.
GiaCostella
We went for lunch on a Saturday, and though the place was quite empty the food was divine!!

We tried the Teriyaki chicken bao, the panko crumbed chicken bao and the spicy salmon sushi burrito - all recommended by our friendly waitress. All the food was fresh and delicious. It was also presented well.

The atmosphere and vibe could do with some uplifting, and the wooden feature wall could do with a bit of a scrub - but I’ll definitely be back! 👍
Krupa Mistry
This is an awesome place to chill out , however the service was a bit slow even though the restaurant was empty . The food was absolutely amazing and the concept of sushi and burrito is really cool.
Michelle Sachs
A strange little hole in the wall with unusual decor but the food is always delicious. Tempura prawns, beef baos and the noodle dishes are all tasty, colourful and packed with flavour. Worth a visit.
Vash
This is a really wonderful place for informal lunch. Their staff and chef are extremely friendly. Would definitely return for their chef's special sushi and prawn burrito.
Alon Korb
Disappointing to say the least. Was looking forward to trying the sushi burrito, but to charge R130 for rice and one piece of salmon is shameful. The poke bowl was sad, the rice was undercooked and they didn't even use sushi rice. If you are hungry, this is not the place to go, this is more of a snack then a meal. The cherry on top was the service and the atmosphere, both were missing. We were the only people there and the waitresses were as miserable as could be.
David Schroder
Tasteless, overpriced food. Fashion sandwiches and salmon roses don't have any mayo inside and the salmon itself was bland. And when it came time to pay, they forgot to charge their card machine so card payments couldn't happen. Then they didn't have change for cash payments.
Simone Alexandra Gumilar
Tasteless, overpriced food. Burritos are lightly dusted with Dorrito bits but it doesn't add anything to the lack of flavor of the actual sushi.
No prawn available. And the card machines weren't charged so we had to wait over 10min, gave up then then had to go draw money to pay cash. Never coming back.
Sharp Ou
Sub bar. Terrible quality. Priced too high to substantiate the product received. Ordered crispy chips chicken Baos, salmon tostada that was either very low quality or contained pumpkin, cheese and prawn spring rolls that tasted like an abomination. One of the worst asian experiences in Central Johannesburg.
The Restaurant Phantom
Absolute Gem of a restaurant.

After hearing many positive reviews I decided to finally give in and come give it try (sushi isn’t my favorite food) but Sushi Burrito delivers on every level.

Cool and funky decor, super friendly and efficient crew and scrumptious meals.

We had a spicy tuna burrito, chicken yakitori (best ever) chicken sweet buns and sushi platters - the portions are surprisingly generous and is very well priced for what you get.

I hope to become a regular here as this place is lit.

(Ratings of 5 reserved for fine dining only)
Alastair Waldeck
The food here was good, but not great and the atmosphere left a lot to be desired. It felt a bit like a takeaway shop that was converted to a restaurant, so definitely not something to rave home about. Overall, it was an average experience.
Kristy Prevette
Was expecting a bit of a vibe here. Was really quiet, maybe just the time, but it was a Thursday night so not sure. The service was good and the food tasty. Loved my tuna poke bowl. Maybe will try for lunch next time.
Monochrome
Food average. Service average. The baos are better at Momo Baohaus. Expected a lot more from this restaurant. Probably would not return here in a hurry.
Loveroffood
This little hidden gem was a very relaxed and laid back environment, our waitress was very friendly and helpful.
The food was really amazing, from the wonton fries and sweet potato chips, to the soft bun meal and of cause their famous sushi burrito, all was fresh very fresh and tasty. Thank you for the experience. The only thing is the timing of the food, they were delivered to the table at different times. But all in all will be back.
Cassandra Mahlangu
Sushi lover.

Love the food, sad that the Subuta pork and berry Baobab ice tea were out of stock. The Duck rice bun with sweet potato fries were amazing.

Hopefully next time will be a better experience.

Man i love this place. Its so bright and fun and good and cheerful.
We went for early lunch on Saturday morning. Its in a weird spot in melrose arch, sort of around the corner from everything. It was very quiet and we got the best spot. I really liked just walking in there, it felt good. Its clean and professional looking.
Our waiter just super patient and understanding with us. We order all the stuff ramdomly. 2 bao, duck and chicken, 2 sushi burrito, 1 pork 1 veg, gamgum wings, tea, juice, bla bla.
The sushi burritos are pretty sweet, they like huge maki, they add crushed niknaks and doritos, for real, seriously, its great. It'sso not serious and great. Its not pompous or stuck up or pretending to be something upperclass. Its wonderful. Also, its delicious. So yum.
The bao is a bit more serious and also top shelf stuff. The duck was a bit dry but i ate it anyways.
Wings... yes. Good. Hot. Nomnomnom

We decided to get a starter to finish, tuna tostada... delicious man. And swift.

I wasn't mad aboutthe desert except they served the Nutella dumplings with a really nice ginger sorbet which was a great finish, fragrant and fresh.

I love this place and i willgo again even though there are still places i haven't visited yet.

Oh... its not cheap, its mid range, and the quality is good. Ie good value for the money.

I have been following your social media sites for a few weeks. I am foodie of note and enjoy good food. When arriving at the store, what seems to be the manager was sitting at the stairs by the entrance which made it rather difficult to get .. we were greeted by a friendly waitress who had an awesome smile. Was rather strange for her to use her cell to place orders but hey suppose this is how technology rolls ;-) and quiet efficient and nifty.
So we started with the Korean chicken wings which I thoroughly enjoyed. It has a a tangy taste a little sweet bit bang the chilli hits you after 30 or so seconds.
We had the passion fruit and strawberry crush which 10 points goes to the bar man.
Main courses was shared between P and I which was a seafood poke and a crumbled chicken breasted bao bun. We shared the poke and had it with rice.. it was absolutely deliciously amazing.. the Bao bun which we also shared was utterly delicious... all these dishes were really awesome..
I then decided to try the eintree spicy tuna on tortilla chips which I must say was delicious but indidnt find it worth the amount we paid for it.
Overall it was a great experience, the manager was engrossed by his cell phone the whole time and didn't even bother to check on any of the patrons. Not even to check of we were fine, fortunately we were in great hands by the waitress.

Dinned at Sushi Burrito for a friend of mines birthday and i must say i enjoyed myself. The food at this establishment is crisp and fresh. The service lacked a bit of TLC though, other than that, a very pleasant establishment that sells good food.

The green tea was awesome ! The burrito was very interesting and the curry was great . overall the staff were friendly and ambience was nice

Had dinner here on Thursday night. It wasn’t the busiest of places but the waiters were lovely and very friendly. We ordered the tempura prawn burrito and their spicy pork bao. Both the bao and burrito were presented beautifully. Unfortunately my only issue was that the burrito had very few prawns in it. Like 2 long prawns back to back but packed with veggies - however, it did taste divine. The bao was absolutely amazing! The bbq/siracha flavor was to die for and everything worked so well together.

I simple cant even find a reason to take my rating down by 0.5 . I dont easily give a full rate because I like to reserve some space for improvement. I had the most pleasant Tuesday afternoon lunch at Burrito Sushi . We had the tuna sushi burrito with the most amazing panko crusted Panga fish Bao along with Japanese BBQ noodles. I cant fault the flavours and I cant fault the service, which as we all know in this country is a hard find. I recommend rhis to any person who enjoys fresh and respected produce.
Let Them Eat Cake
Good service-waitress was friendly and helpful with menu choices. We ordered take-aways, and did not have to wait long for our order. Food was tasty. Poke Bowls and Bao are the best options at this restaurant. I would give the sushi burritos a miss- especially the cheas naks coates ones(awful)!. Sad-as the restaurant is named after the burritos
Prices are also a bit high for what is offered. Will be interesting to see if this place lasts at prices charged per meal.

Sushi Burrito & Co. is a great place for me and my family. The menu itself seems to be very interesting. After enjoying the starters, we had sushi burrito and it was so delicious, well served and the presentation was on point. We are definitely going to try other items. I recommend it to anyone.

Novelty meals is really on trend for the time being, particularly with foodies constantly trying to find specific food stories. Sushi Burrito falls into this class, with their fusion signature serving.
As a person who is a normal client of each japanese and Mexican meals, i used to be excited by the concept of merging properly cherished dishes.

I visited Sushi Burrito & Co for last week.Sushi burrito was very tasty, albeit a bit of a messy meal.Menu itself seems to be very interesting. The menu offers a good variety and the prices are very affordable.Food was fresh and tasty. The service was really good, the waiters kept clearing the table and replacing the plates and cutlery.I plan to return very soon with a group of friends to enjoy all the dishes.

There is a wide assortment of dinners for everybody here so veggie lovers won't go hungry. Out of the considerable number of spots that I have gone to as of late this eatery is at the highest priority on the rundown with regards to benefit!

I would prescribe the veg tempura (a standout amongst other I have ever had) which was so light and fresh and went with an assortment of sauces. For mains I attempted the Bao (Chinese bun) which is filled in as a couple loaded with new veg and succulent mushroom. The flavors were so enthusiastic and very much adjusted.
Aashish Hamal
This place is really different and have new concept of food. It is basically a fusion restaurant that offers Asian cuisine with a Mexican twist. The decor is really beautiful and modern.
There is a wide variety of meals for everyone here so vegetarians will not go hungry. Out of all the places that I have visited recently this restaurant is at the top of the list when it comes to service! Service is great and amazing. I tried the Bao (Chinese bun) which is served as a pair filled with fresh veg and juicy mushroom. The flavors were so lively and well balanced.

I will really visited there again. So I highly recommend for everyone, also pop in and try it out.

I am so happy their representive customer service. Best wishes Sushi Burrito & Co
for present that kind of service.

I visited cos I was looking for something light and fresh to break my fast with. Chose to go with a salmon poke bowl...it was really good...salmon, avocado, crispy kale, ponzu marinade on the salmon, lettuce, sesame seeds and some ponzu dressing...I luv'd the fresh flavours. But I that it was a bit pricy for the amount of salmon you got.

Excellent variety and super taste. Wish my tummy can make space for more. Can't wait for my next visit yummmmmmmy. Loved all the dishes . A must try , addictive to sushi lovers

Novelty food is certainly on trend at the moment, especially with foodies constantly searching for unique food experiences. Sushi Burrito falls into this category, with their fusion signature serving.

As someone who is a regular consumer of both Japanese and Mexican food, I was excited by the concept of merging two well loved dishes. Unfortunately, although the burritos are well presented (read very Instagrammable), I felt that they were light on flavour and filling. Of the three that I tried, the tempura prawn was the best - the pineapple a much needed addition, added some zing to otherwise muted seasoning. The poke bowl and side pickle were the stand outs!

The restaurant itself is gorgeous, the murals and wooden wall coverings add to a youthful and funky atmosphere. It was an overall pleasant experience but I'm not sure the novelty factor is enough to warrant a return visit.

I prefer to review places before I go, so this won't be the traditional sort of review that pseudo-foodies conjure up after having graced an establishment with their presence. That's so average.

I'm not sure how the food is going to be. The pictures look nice. I don't really think that Sushi goes well with tacos. Also, I don't speak Spanish. Oh well.

Anyway, it's Friday and I'm tired, so I think I'll wrap this up.

Went to Sushi Burrito to celebrate our friends birthday. 1. The atmosphere was excellent.
2. I'm a lover of sushi, the burrito was magnificent 👌
3. The dessert was delicious 😋😋

Delicious food. The Prawn rolls were super tasty. The tempura veg was amazing and the prawn tostadas had the perfect bite. We were a table of 6 and tried numerous mains. The baos are divine and the salads are amazing too. Our waitress Angie was efficient and friendly. Super fast service. Will be back.
David Lindeque
Epic food, great service. Definitely coming back. Had tempura veg starter and grilled chicken salad for main. Was delicious, not heavy. Definitely worth a try!
Rob
Nice novelty. A burrito filled with sushi. Nice service and nice atmosphere, but not the type of place you'd go out for dinner to. Lil out of place situated next to Pauls and Jamies Italian. I ordered a tuna sushi burrito and enjoyed it, but not the price tag.
Charlemagne Olivier
Waited 1 hour for our food!!! Totally unacceptable when tables that came after us are being served before.
Waitress was extremely rude and kept snarling at us.
This place clearly is adopting a new fusion style of cooking, with funky decor and a unique product offering. However there is a very poor execution on the staffs part here from Waitrons, Chefs and management.

Wont come again.l
Sasha De Oliveira
Finally tried this place! And I was so glad I did! Mixed reviews so had to find out for myself what this asian-mexican fusion was all about! After all I love both cuisines! Happy to say that we enjoyed every dish that we ordered:)
For starters: prawn tostadas (so tasty, just wish there were more than 3 on a plate!) and wonton chips (crispy and so yummy).
For mains we ordered two types of bao and a raw tuna sushi burrito rolled in the crunch.
Bao's were delicious! Like a steamed marshmallow bread bun with the most gorgeous fillings! Really recommend the crispy duck bao!! The subota pork was also really good but watch out - it's very spicy 🌶 !! Sushi burrito was also great, the crunch is a strange new taste but it's quite nice!
Mazjmk
Great food, awesome ambience and excellent service! The Chicken Katsu gives Wagamama a run for its money, Burritos and Baos where fantastic. What an exciting concept. Will be back for sure, can't wait to try the rest of the menu!

Changing my rating for 5 to 1. A few days after my first experience I decided to come back with more people. I was very excited to show them what the hype is about and how great the food is. So when we arrived, we chose to sit outside because it would be better lighting for our pictures. The security guard then told us that we are not allowed to take pictures outside the restaurant. We then decided to go sit inside the restaurant and it went downhill from there. We've waited 1hr 10min for our food to come. When approaching the manager about the long wait time he grunted some words and then went back talking to a waiter. We found it considerably rude. Food doesnt even taste good when they leave a sour taste in your mouth. It was so bad we contemplated on paying for drinks and have lunch else where. The waiters were all over the place with our requests. Couldn't even give us change.

I won't be back anytime soon if it continues like this. I'd rather get good service with a normal sushi pieces than go through this again.
Zoë Dorothy Brentano
Absolutely loved Sushi Burrito and Co. We arrived shortly after 11 when it opened and were warmly welcomed by the staff. The menu was explained and we were told about the popular choices and the recommendations. To drink we had the cherry blossom tea and a cuba libre cocktail. For starters we tried the gangnum style wings, which were flavorful but not overally hot. We shared the spicy salmon and the chicken katsu, both in crunch wrap. The burrito comes with a wasabi sauce which can be hot when used a lot with the spicy salmon. I recommend going for wonton chips, which come with a curry type sauce, sriracha mayo and a chili type mayo - I wish more restaurants served wonton chips, they are just that good. For desert we went with the nutella wonton (unfortunately they did not have ginger and lychee ice cream so I had green tea instead which is very strong) and deep fried delight, which tastes similar to a deep fried flapjack. The service was really good, the waiters kept clearing the table and replacing the plates and cutlery, and the food didnt take long to arrive. Overall a good experience and I would recommend it to anyone who enjoy sushi.
Stacey Norsworthy
These guys have created quite a novelty with the combination of sushi & a burrito however their menu also includes bao, noodle bowls etc.
I tried the tempura prawn burrito with crunch crust and it was very tasty. Filled with tempura prawn, pineapple, salad, rice & spicy mayo. It comes with a small ginger pickle and wasabi mayo. I would recommend this one however it is a bit pricy at R99.
Waseem Imam Saheb
The deco is fun and very tokyo japan inspired... the menu itself seems to be very interesting... we had sushi burrito but to be honest its not a very nice meal... sure the flavours are good - but its an incredibly messy meal ... eat at your own risk... i will return to try the other items on the menu though
Janine Howard
Interesting concept and cool vibe. The burrito was nice and we really enjoyed the starters. My only criticism is that the lighting was a bit bright and the restaurant could have a cozier atmosphere. The lottery idea to get a discount is also really cool!
Candice
I had a craving for poke bowls so I googled and found out about Sushi Burrito in Melrose Arch. The service is good, but I feel the quality of the ingredients do not match up to the price you are paying. Luckily I asked to see the fish first before deciding against the one with tuna in it, because it did not seem fresh enough to serve raw. When you are paying for the bill, they tell you to choose a number between 1 and 99 and to write it down. If you select that same number from a separate box full of numbers, your meal is on the house 😊

Great place, love it! Amazing food! Can't wait to be back! My favorite place so far in Joburg! Loved it all burritos, Bao Pokes........ءYummy!!😍😍😍👍

Love love love !!! Food is out of this world. Friendly staff. Awesome atmosphere. Recommend to everyone! Especially if you like trying new things. Very different concept :)
Tracey-Lee Austin
Very good service, nice setting. Yaki soba noodles absolutely delicious, crab and cheese rolls generous portion and very tasty! Raw Salmon sushi burrito (with crunch): yummy! Messy to eat but for the fussier eater or more traditional consumer of sushi, you can skip the crunch and have it wrapped in nori. All in all, a great meal! I will definitely go back.
Hema Patel
Great set up and innovative menu. The sushi burrito was not to my personal taste but the crumbed mushroom bao bun was tasty. Dessert was average with interesting ice cream flavours. They had run out of stock of all their fruit juice blends and noodles by the time we got there on a Saturday afternoon. So go earlier to avoid disappointment.
Remo Castellan
Been wanting to try Sushi Burrito since they've opened. Was not disappointed!

My waitress Busi was great. Helpful and attentive.

The decor is great too. Fresh and vibey. The atmosphere reminds me of a Wagamama (overseas Japanese styled restaurant) but with a unique twist.

I ordered the chicken katsu burrito in seaweed and wonton chips. It was superb. The vegetables crispy and fresh.

Be warned though. The wasabi paste is 🔥

I will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.

Prices: a bit on the excessive side but the food is great and the portions are big. Definitely worth it!
Nicola May Lake
Fun innovative concept but the food was not great. Had the prawn tostadas which were flavoured nicely but the prawns seemed to be slightly frozen still. For mains we had Prawn Tempura Sushi Burrito... I asked what the crunch option was and was informed it's crushed nik naks, not quiet something I want to eat with my dinner. Within the burrito the ingredients were not evenly spread the first half I ate had no pineapple and I almost thought no prawn tempura till I found a small piece at the end, it was almost entirely cucumber and rice with wilted lettuce... the other half was slightly better but really did not make up for the initial disappointment. The Curry Udon continued with the theme of not using fresh ingredients... frozen peas and corn not something I've seen in Udon noodle dishes before and not a welcome surprise. The tea and my coke lite were good and the service was superb but as the waiter said look forward to seeing you again I quietly thought to myself I definitely won't be back. Considering the prices I'd expect fresh ingredients and flavoursome food which is not what I got...

Recently, I walked into this casual and unpretentious venue (that I have wanted to try for a while) to chat to Manuel (co-owner) and finally find out a little of what the inspiration behind the restaurant itself is about.

Manuel has taken a lot of pride in this restaurant offering and it was hard not to be impressed with his passion. He also mentioned that their dishes and food are a concept built around sharing, so it is ideally best enjoyed with a group of at least six (6) people to really get to try all the dishes.

Sushi Burrito & Co's food offering:
TAPAS: Tostados (crispy little tacos), chicken skewers, Sashimi, Korean hot wings, Edamame bowls, and Tempura (served with a delicious ginger soy broth).
BAOS: Teriyaki chicken, Panko-crumbed chicken breast, Subuta pork, Sukiyaki-style beef, crumb mushroom, crispy duck, and Panko-crumbed Panga fish with an assortment of extra spicy sauces.
SUSHI BURRITOS all wrapped with Nori or their famous crunch!
POKE BOWLS: salmon or tuna.
NOOLDE & RICE BOWLS: Chicken Katsu curry classic, Katsu Don (pork), Yaki Soba, Yaki Udon and curry Udon.
And of course salads and desserts.

On my first visit, I only had time to sample a few items like the Tostados (prawn, salmon, tuna) which were small bite size offerings but crunchy, flavoursome and delicious! Plating perfection!

I plan to return very soon with a group of friends to enjoy all the dishes and update this review. Watch this space!

For more, find me on Instagram, Facebook & Twitter: LaurasWorldza

If you are looking for something new and different, in and around Joburg, this is the place! It is basically a fusion restaurant that offers Asian cuisine with a Mexican twist. The decor is simple and modern.

There is a wide variety of meals for everyone here so vegetarians will not go hungry. Out of all the places that I have visited recently this restaurant is at the top of the list when it comes to service!

For starters I would recommend the veg tempura (one of the best I have ever had) which was so light and crispy and accompanied with a variety of sauces. For mains I tried the Bao (Chinese bun) which is served as a pair filled with fresh veg and juicy mushroom. The flavours were so lively and well balanced.

I will definitely be back for seconds very soon :) so I recommend you also pop in and try it out.

Love it! Such a great new innovation to hit the market. Burrito's are packed with flavour and goodness. Love the famous crunch, just gets messy when it's on the outside so avoid on first dates ;)

Went here after I did a search and saw this... saying "oh that's new!!!" Excitedly I went with a friend. Shared a couple of things and I was just really impressed. See pictures... I may ask for my mayo plain next time because I have a low spice tolerance but was still yum. Also it's hands down the best veg tempura/tempura batter as a whole that i have EVER had. I see the menu has extended since I went so I will definitely be back :D

Worst/Slowest service I’ve ever experienced. I stood at the door staring down the staff for a good 10 minutes and there was literally ONE other customer in the entire restaurant and he had already received his food so they were just standing around. Finally the waitress decided to come up to me after staring at me for all that time and she handed me the menus... then she apologized for giving me menus? I asked her about the chef’s special sushi section and she had absolutely no clue what anything was. She couldn’t tell me the difference between the salmon California rolls and the rainbow reloaded. She then said I should rather look at the main menu because she’s confused.

Came highly recommended by Saaleha Bamjeewho suggested that we try the new Melrose Arch eatery for our girls lunch. We were lucky that as a fellow foodie, Saaleha had tried a lot of the dishes already and ordered for us.
I loved everything from the tapas to the tempura prawn. My favourite was the crumbed mushroom bao - it's like eating a soft savoury marshmallow! So good!

The atmosphere is awesome but as it's a new venue expect to wait to be seated especially on the weekend but it's definitely worth it!

The most interesting aspect is the "shakebox" - when your bill arrives, guess a number, shake the wooden box and if you select the number that you chose, you get the meal for free!

Must try!

Good service. Exceptionally limited menu for vegetarians and nothing gluten free on the menu, had to ask that a few things not be included in what I ordered. Very unlikely to return.

We went there just after they opened and I was pleasantly surprised by this place. Awesome fun decor with great service.... I mean what restaurant gives you the chance to get a meal on the house?! Pick a number and if your number is picked from their box voila it's free. The menu offers a good variety and the prices are very affordable. I like the idea of having crunch inside the sushi burrito, it definitely adds dimension. I also found it to be less messy with the crunch inside instead of outside. Food was fresh and tasty. Favourite dish: sashimi salad. Worth a visit.

Great casual spot for a bite to eat. I've been hunting down a spot in Johannesburg that serves sushi burritos and poke bowls for some time now, so was quite excited when I saw this menu.
Hard to choose from the options on the menu but we decided to share an order of duck bao's and a sushi burrito.
Sushi burrito was very tasty, albeit a bit of a messy meal (but that's part of the enjoyment). Just think I would prefer it wrapped in seaweed versus the crumbed cornflake (I think that's what it is) coating.
Waiters are still new and learning, but super friendly and helpful.

So I decided to try their spicy Japanese hot wings which to my surprise were very good and the host was very friendly, I will definitely be back for some more.

I wanted to see what the hype was all about so I ordered the #prawntempuraburrito. The meal was good but I was underwhelmed. I felt like the sweetness of the pineapple takes away from the sushi flavours. Also, my chair was broken before I even sat down. I wasn't happy with how the hostess handled everything.

Amazing selection....delicious and vibrant!
I definitely recommend to people who want to try something new....the staff are fantastic always service with a smile... and who knows, if you pick the right number out the raffle box your meal might be free!

The concept is genius.. the delivery not so much! We had both the spicy tuna and salmon sashimi tostada as starters with a side of wonton fries! The starters were delicious and the wonton fries were probably the best part of my meal! For mains I ordered the spicy salmon famous crunch burrito and a panko-crumbed chicken bao. The crunch on the burrito was some sort of cheese flavored nacho that the burrito was rolled in. For me the combo did not go well.. sushi and cheese nachos.. no! Also biting into it was a logistical nightmare as the burrito is pretty big and the crumbs just fall right off! Big mess! Dipping this burrito into the soy sauce was a disaster! The crunch wrapping does not work!! Maybe I'll try the seaweed wrapping instead next time! The bao was lovely! Tasted like southern fried chicken in a delicious soft steamed bun! Yum! The desert needs work! We had the sweet bao with berries and mascarpone and let's just say it sounds way nicer than it tasted! Very oily and just all round added nothing to my meal! I should have stopped eating after the bao! Service was excellent, very friendly waitress, beautifully presented food and cute restaurant detail!

Cool spot. Service is the best ! Angel is fantastic. Food is fresh and tasty - would prefer the crunch to have less colorants. Looks like nicnaks

25.05.2017 Foodies you are in for a real treat. I attended the soft Opening at this new trendy spot to hit Crescent Drive. If like me, you love the contrast between taste and texture then you are going to love what is on offer. Not only do they offer the "Sushi Burrito" which is any Sushi lovers dream but they also pride themselves on their diverse menu offering which includes Poke, Bao Buns, Bowls, Edamame Beans (seems to be the new "In" snack sprouting up) and a twist on dessert.

On the day I had a taste of the following:
• Sushi Burrito ( I had the chicken but there is a wide variety)
• Crab Tostada
• Gangnum Style Chicken Wings ( yummy and finger licking )
• Edamame Beans ( healthy but addictive )
• Wonton fries ( Hmm love the crunch )
• Fries
•Trio of sauces which pack a punch ~ Enchilada Sauce, Wasabi Sauce and Sriracha Sauce.
• Prawn and Cheese Springrolls

I unfortunately didn't get to taste the Dessert but they look intriguing. If you in the Melrose area and tired of the same old burgers and sandwiches give this place a try and let me know your thoughts. Big Thank You to Jad, Manuel, Donovan and the rest of the team for the warm welcome and awesome service. Looking forward to my return.
