Really had a good time at Calisto's. We had a family lunch (9 people). The service was extremely friendly, Primrose was our waitress and she was very helpful and very friendly. The food was very good and tasteful, they serve quality meals. They have a nice play area for kids where they have a lady watching to make sure they are safe, she seems to be very good with children and get them to connect with each other a bit to play together. Definitely a highly recommend restaurant.

We hadn't been to Calisto's for quite a while and decided to treat ourselves. We both had starters of sticky BBQ wings followed by the prawn special of 10 medium prawns. Finished off with chocolate mousse and cappuccino with cream. Service was excellent and when our waiter Diego was busy we were helped by other waiters who came to ensure that we were attended to promptly. Food arrived hot and may have remained hot longer had it been on good old fashioned hot plates, but that would be my only complaint

One of the best if not the best Portuguese restaurants I have eaten at. The prawns were amazing. I had heard about Calistos from various people but never visited - I have certainly been missing out all these years. Exceeded all expectations. Well done to all involved. 👍👍👍

Celebrated a birthday recently at Calistos in Gillview and it was the most incredible experience. The service was impeccable and the food, top tier. The manager Lee was so helpful and ensured we were well taken care of. The guests were beyond impressed and will definitely keep Calistos on the top of their list of event venues. Great food, complemented by great company. Happy atmosphere, helpful staff. We were seated in the outdoor fireplace area which was surprisingly warm. Delicious platters bursting with flavor. No long wait in between orders.

Came here twice and on both occasions this is most probably the worst restaurant I haven eaten at. The service is absolutely horrible, at one point I was so thirsty I got up to go and fetch my own drink. They really need to management as the location is good.

Just spent the night at the casino hotel and breakfast at Vigour and Verve. This has been the worst experience I've had at a restaurant. Very slow service, no teaspoons for coffee. Very disappointing.

The food is awful, service is also awful. I feel like the staff have good intentions but there's no attention to detail. My friends and I ordered the same cocktail, all 3 were different. The cocktails weren't bad, but food, setting and hygeine was just awful.

My partner and I were trying to impress an overseas friend and thought we would take him there. Well what a disaster. We waited 20 minutes before we got a drink, then another 20 minutes before he took the food order, then the food was cold!!!! The service was disgusting. The person that served us was so miserable and unfriendly. Then when it came to the bill time, the waiter said we should not add on the tip we must pay him in cash!!!!!hhmmm thought that was a bit of a cheek!!! Overall poor and will never go there again!!!!

Mmmm... what attracted us to V&V was that it was quiet... then on seeing portion sizes I got nervous , they are rather large... for starters I had the berry jar... tasty even though it needs a glass of ice with it 😉... the calamari was very good, well seasoned and again a good portion, my salad was a bowl of dull and bland, pity... the lamb curry was tasty but certainly not hot... the heat could be found in the tomato and onion sambal, with gorgeous fresh chilies chopped in... the service is slow and not that attentive... It’s a good clean and average restaurant .... however that berry jar was the best medicine for stress, highly recommend ... creating the foundation to endless laughs... experiencing life with my best friend...

The food at this restaurant is by far the best. The service at this restaurant is absolutely terrible. The creamy chicken pasta on their menu is to die for. They make very tasty burgers as well. This restaurant is cozy and modern which I like.

Good quality food and good breakfast buffet. Look out for weekly specials and discount with rewards program. If you looking for a place to relax with good food this is a place to try! It has a nice open kitchen vibe. Good Butter Chicken and Pizzas ! Downsides: The service could improve The dessert menu is limited Venue layout - smoking area is not well ventilated which then spreads into the open area. The seating in certain areas is awkwardly situated.

I was not pleased with this restaurant. Their menu was rather limited and the dish that I had was simply average. This restaurant was not all bad. Their dishes were reasonably priced and the actual restaurant was rather cozy. I was not disappointed per se. However, I won't go back to this restaurant any time soon.

The restaurant has such lovely reviews and is always so busy and has the most vibrant atmosphere. On arrival it says "please wait to be seated" as my friends and I waited about 6 waiters walked past us and ignored us. We then asked for help and was told to wait again. After about 10 minutes we were seated in the smoking area. The waiter didn't attend to us for another 15 minutes nor was he friendly or helpful. We just ordered drinks and left. When we asked for the bill , it took another 10 minutes to arrive. The service was just terrible and I felt highly disappointed as the restaurant wasn't at it's busiest.

My boyfriend and I had our date night here :)I had the ribs & chips and my boyfriend a lamb burger. We enjoyed both meals. Food was cooked brilliantly.It is a bit pricey though and some of the food portions are quite small.They don't close until after 11pm which worked well for us.|I will definitely visit this restaurant again.

The restaurant is located in the Gold Reef City Casino, it is medium sized with an interesting décor. The menu is fairly extensive and you will definitely find something of interest to try. I had the Lamb Curry it was tasty and spicy, but was definitely not hot. My wife, Chantel, ordered the Signature Butter Chicken she found it tasty and enjoyable. We both ordered the Waffle for pudding, but neither of us was overly impressed with this. Service was good and staff friendly-will probably go back again.

Popped in for some mocktails. The staff were so friendly, they didn't seem to mind that we weren't eating there. I really liked the cool decor and the cake looked good. Great service and a nice place. Didn't eat but the food seemed reasonably priced.

Located inside the Gold Reef City Casino, we were drawn to this restaurant because of their lamb shank Special. My partner had the lambshank and I had the Ribs and chips. I really liked their chips, quite different from the usual french fries. Their ribs tasted like they were bought ready made from a supermarket. The lambshank was hard and didn't fall off the bone. It needed an extra hour being cooked. Also our visit was terrorised by a cat which the waitrons were scared of as well.

Set in the actual Gold Reef City Casino itself the restaurant is large and welcoming. Quite a different layout and decor and huge abacus's to play with in the entrance :) Menu is extensive, we both chose burgers - mine beef with avocado and my dining partner the chicken burger - also with avo. The fries were lukewarm - but tasty and the service was good. Would visit again if at the casino but not something I would drive to specifically.

The only thing I could possibly complain about is the pizza from this restaurant. Everything else is absolutely wonderful. While you eat you have a spectacular view of the casino floor where you can watch people play slots. The restaurant serves their food reasonably quickly and I am yet to be disappointed by anything other than their pizza which I belive is not up to standard. If you are a tea lover consider trying the Italian almond tea - it is to die for.

Visited Vigour and Verve with the whole family and we had mixed views. We ordered three starters for the table to share...The wings were deemed the best of these. The batter on the calamari was too thick and the boerewor wasn't anything special. For mains we ordered the lamb shank, lamb curry, butter chicken and ribs. The ribs and lamb shank went down a treat but the lamb curry tasted a bit sour and the accompanying roti was incredibly hard. The butter chicken was okay but not really of restaurant quality. Presentation was good, however the service was very slow. Would be reluctant to return to Vigour and Verve...

Vigour And Verve is definitely one of the better looking restaurants at Gold Reef City. It is very well lit and bright which is a nice break from the dim casino. The iced coffees are the perfect drink if you want to relax and have a bite to eat (although we did find the iced café americano unnecessarily sweet). The food was delicious with the exception of the Meat Lovers pizza which was heavy and didn't seem particularly fresh but luckily this was a special so it is not on the menu. The Famous Pulled Lamb sandwich was spicy and hearty and I really like that they have such a large selection of breads for you to choose from. The service was on the slow side but the restaurant was full and the waiting staff were never just standing around, our waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu but kept touching my back when she asked about the food and I really didn't like that.

Vigour and Verve replaced the old News Cafe at the Gold Reef City Hotel and Casino (probably just as well). It has a funky fresh feel about it and the staff all come across as energetic and eager to please. The place has a slight 60's Americana diner feel about it which isn't really my personal taste but shouldn't detract from a visit. I had the Lamb Shank with mash and found the food good but not exceptional. The meat came off the bone easily enough and the gravy was not overpowering. The prices are very reasonable for what you get and the service is slick and efficient. So, ratings out of 5: atmosphere: 2, service: 3, food: 2.5. If you are at the hotel, it's worth a visit but I wouldn't especially make the trip.

This coffee seems promising. If there is one let a restaurant can make is serving coffee that is not up to standard. Cappuccino topped with choc sprinkles not choc powder or cinnamon. I enjoyed it, more especially since it was also topped with cream not froth. I would definitely come back.

Big expectations bigger let down. Noisy, waiters non attentive, been twice and both times they either got the starter wrong or didn't have it, calamari was chewy. Main courses and nothing special.

Went to a comedy show so we were having dinner before the show started. It was packed and we had to wait for a table. The waiters were friendly and the service was excellent. Enjoyed the stay.

The new restaurant in Gold Reef City Casino certainly recieved a warm welcome with queues out the door and waiting lists. We were lucky to arrive early to secure a table. The waiters did tell us up front that the kitchen was backed up and we should expect a delay in our food, I appreciate the honesty, and we were not in a huge rush. The menu is unique and truely South African, I had the boerrie starter and enjoyed it. For mains, a butter chicken pizza. Overall, enjoyable and relaxing. I recommend.
