Review Habesha - Johannesburg

Sitting down to the smell of freshly roasting coffee and frankincense on hot coals makes this Ethiopian eatery just a wee bit different from its competitors. The food is made for sharing. Every bite is delicious. And eating with your hands is loads of fun. The strong Ethiopian coffee is beautifully flavourful and very different from rest of the regular coffee shops in Maboneng. In short, Habesha really tries to bring a beautiful authentic Ethiopian eating experience to life.

Loved our experience here at Habesha. Ww were warmly welcomed. The decor and the the ambience transports you to another space and time. The smell of freshly roasted coffee and lobaan is mesmerizing. Ordered the meat and vegetarian platter to share. The flavors are subtle but well cooked. We loved the fluffy bread that we used to spoon in these delicious morsels into our mouths. Great music. You have to try the coffee at the end of the meal. It is other worldly. Divine. A traditional honey wine complemented our meal. Was delicious. Would definitely recommend

Friendly atmosphere and delicious coffee. The earthenware pots are coal-heated and delivered piping hot by a gracious host. Beautiful setting and relaxing atmosphere.

Definitely the best place to go for Ethiopian cuisine in Johannesburg with decor that makes you feel like you could be in Addis! Service was exceptional and the atmosphere was great. Food was 'finger licking' good ! would definitely recommend

Fantastic place, also great for vegans (such as myself). A chill vibe, with chill music (though a bit louder than the typical coffee shop, but still perfect for this place) and super tasty food. Prices are reasonable too. The owner (the daughter) is very helpful, and so is the other waitstaff. It was a nice warm place to be in, on this chilly day. I'll definitely be back! Dare I say it: the owner (the daughter) is beautiful too.

We went to Habesha on Saturday the 13th July 2019 and it was my first time trying food from outside South Africa. I am very skeptic when it comes to food but I am glad I did. OMG the tea they serve? I could drink it the whole day everyday. I am pleased that they have vegetarian dishes which I absolutely loved. I had lentils (Green and red) and it was like I have never had lentils before. Their flat bread is a WHOLE LIFE MOOD. I love the environment, the music, the paintings and just everything. The manager is a WHOLE VIBE. Kudos Habesha. I am surely coming back again
