Review World Of Samoosas - Johannesburg

Attie Roos
I am filled with gratitude as this place brings back cherished memories of my younger days spent with my parents. We used to travel from Pretoria, spending the day at the Plaza while they helped me find suits to wear. The food at World of Samoosas never fails to delight me. From the delectable little triangle treats to the mouthwatering bunny chows, every visit to Joburg is truly a special treat. The service at this establishment is always swift and efficient. On this occasion, we decided to take our food to go and enjoyed it on a humble garage bench outside the city. Even in that simple setting, the food tasted just as fantastic as ever. I am sincerely thankful for the culinary experiences and nostalgic feelings that World of Samoosas evokes. It's a place that holds a special place in my heart, and I'm grateful for every visit.

The most amazing samoosas. We even ordered extra to take home.

Best Service Ever and The greatest tasting samoosas as well no compromise on quality

If you want fresh samoosas then look no further. I've bought from them for a decade now & have never been disappointed. Great service, great food. I've never dined in though, that's why the atmosphere is 3 stars.

Great service, the best samoosas in town

The samosas were so good and freshly fried and ready within a few mins, pricing is good, overall service is good...gets very busy but they are fast....I personally don't mind waiting the extra 5 more mins so that I get freshly fried goods instead of cleverly reheating for slightly faster service....would definitely recommend them, as for the takeaway part it can get crowded up as so many people are there to buy so can be abit inconvenient, but I think the goodness makes up for it

Best samosas I loved them

Samoosas, jalfrezi, bread. It’s all a must. Wow! Sit down and eat. It’s worth every bite and second.

It is rare to find such wonderful and kind people who offer such great and speedy service. It goes without saying that the samoosas are tasty and there's a good variety. They're well priced and neatly packed. Yesterday I bought a few and one of the staff threw in a few extra chips for my baby. It was really thoughtful and makes the place so memorable. Will absolutely visit again!

Delicious food, I had a tandoori platter which was simply delectable! Would stay away from their coffee though.

Great food however they could improve their service for sit in customers. The waiters need training.

On days that I get to choose date morning breakfast its always here😍 Masala Scramble eggs with Masala tea and 2 coconut samoosas🤤🤤🤤. I'm never able to finish the eggs because it's quite a large portion but this is an absolute win for me!!!

Always a pleasure to buy some samoosas after shopping at the Plaza....
We had the lamb, beef, chicken, potato and prawn samoosas.
Best of the lot? Chicken and Lamb..... and the samoosa chutney.
Have had the butter previously and can also recommend that ;-)

Best samoosas ! No one can beat them! Coconut samoosas are fabulous a lovely sweet ending to a feast of all the other savory choices! Our go to place if we want samoosas.

A lovely little Indian restaurant in Fordsburg.

I had ordered a chocolate milkshake, which unfortunately didn't taste anything like a chocolate milkshake.

The food is delicious and the portions are large. We had ordered the butter chicken curry with garlic naan bread and a paneer masala.

I absolutely recommend their curries.
Samoosa`s are fantastic. If you go there on the weekend be prepared to wait a while for your order. Place stays packed! The restaurant is really nice and very fairly priced.

Went for lunch today, the Samosas are excellent, the so called lamb curry was tuff and actually mutton and not the best flavoring I had to add salt a no no, nice bustling atmosphere though.

Samoosas are now smaller with less filling. Had a chicken Tikka sandwich which was a few dry pieces of chicken with red food colouring. Table tops are sticky old dirty plastic covers. You definitely don't want to sit down. Pity, they used to be quite good back in the day

Samoosa's are fried fresh on order. Little gem tucked away in a corner at the Oriental Plaza. Their menu is well priced, good value. Worth a quick stop if you are in the area.

Excellent value for money for a sit down meal. Samoosas were rather small and oily but it's better than most samoosa vendors in that area. (Best samoosas in Johannesburg are from Neesha's Delights). The samoosa dipping sauce was amazing and I took home two bottles of these. The tandoori platter for two was very good and perfectly spiced. The alloo paratha was soft but the filling tasted like it had been frozen and re-heated. Chips were golden and with the dipping sauce, was savoured. The table condiments, apart from the red dipping sauce was a mango pickle which was sour and spicy and went perfectly with every dish. We will be back if ever in that area again. Service was attentive and efficient.

Ironically, the samoosas aren't the best dish here. The tandoori platter is really good - great flavours, especially the seekh kebab. A decent aloo paratha and chicken tikka as well.

We shared a butter chicken and a chicken korma. The portions were more than enough. The korma was so delish we order an extra portion for dinner.

The best samoosa in town. We often drive all the way from the east rand to fordsburg when we want the best samoosa.
Their samoosas are the most delicious that I've personally ever tasted. They have different flavours from cheese&corn to lamb and I can guarantee that they are all delicious.

I absolutely love World of Samoosas; hands-down the best samoosas and bunny chow in Gauteng. Fresh ingredients, wonderfully prepared and great service everytime. I can't even give a recommendation because to be honest they're all great but if you're looking to be adventurous try the salami and cheese.

You can't visit Fordsburg without a detour here for the freshest yummiest samoosas! Try the coconut for something different....with the spicy dip and a squeeze of lemon its amazing! Owner run and fast friendly service!

A trip to Oriental Plaza is not complete without stopping by World of Samoosas to pick up a fresh order of delicious samoosas. Hands down the best in Joburg, I recommend the cheese or the potato

I dared to stray from my family's usual spot at the Plaza and it definitely paid off.

Their samoosas are amazing! They have a great variety and they seem to always have what you want available. They're usually quite busy over the weekend but the short wait is definitely worth it.

My boyfriend and I decided to give the dine-in experience a try. I wasn't expecting much as I've always just seen it as a takeaway spot, so I was surprised that we did have a good experience. The food was good but it wasn't the best curry I've had or the best experience in a restaurant.

I don't think I would come all the way to the plaza to eat their curry as there's better options available closeby but I would definitely come all the way for their samoosas.

The best part of World of Samoosas are the variety of flavours...my favourite is the good old fashioned potato samoosa 😉
However their prawn Samoosa is pretty good too. Try their butter chicken which has a lovely creamy texture, with a nice flavour👌🏽

Yum yum. Favorite place at the plaza. Some of the best Indian food that I have eaten. Their samosas are divine and come in so many different flavours! Definitely a place you need to visit. Divine butter chicken.

One of the best Indian restaurants in Johannesburg, a definite must visit. Squeeze past the hordes of people waiting for take-out samoosas and grab a table inside.
The decor is awful, the tables have plastic covers, but who cares - the food is amazing. Portions are outstandingly generous for very little cost.
The butter chicken is melt-in-your-mouth tender - when you can cut your chicken with a fork, you know it's good.
The tikka chicken fillet pieces are fantastic and the cheese-filled paratha is to die for. Service is average, but like the decor, who cares?
The food and value is what makes this a winner.

World of samoosas is the oriental plaza's best kept secret. Located inside the oriental plaza makes this restaurant an ideal stop after shopping up a storm. Samoosas are a real go to Indian fried delicacy... The coconut samoosas here are to die for! Filled with a sweet coconut filling its like having a koeksister and a samoosa in one. The food menu is also really appetizing with a wide variety of curries and traditional Indian food. We enjoyed the chicken tikka trammazini and the chicken tikka roti wrap... Both were well seasoned and felt like we were enjoying the meal right on the doorstep of the taj mahal. The cheese and corn samoosas are lovely and pack a real punch in your mouth on every bite! We ended off our meal with the tiramisu dessert which was really delicious and exotic in flavor. A real stop for a great Indian on the go snack 🍹☕🍨🍝💗

I have eaten at the world of samoosas on several occasions. It is always busy.

The service is not great and can be a little frustrating. However, management has always been pleasant and welcoming.

The restaurant does lack ambience as it is situated at the back and is rather old-fashioned.

As starters, we had the cheese and onion, spinach and cheese, prawn and coconut samoosas. It was very tasty and went down well with their chilli sauce and mango atchar. However the samoosas could have done with more filling.

For mains we had the tikka platter for 2, paneer masala, aloo and cheese paratha. The parathas were amazing!!! The tikka platter was good. The paneer masala was a little too spicy.

Overall, a decent Indian dining experience!

Quick, tasty, yummy food. Best spot at the plaza. Try the house special, butter chicken with a sesame naan. Start with cheese and spinach samoosas and take a few dozen to fry at home.

I've been going to the restaurant since I was young.. but the standards have dropped terribly over the last few years. I had probably the worst chicken curry in my life today. Mega oily.. no taste. Completely put off by the restaurant. . Won't be visiting anytime soon

Nice little place with the best Samoosas in sa. Love their cheese paratha and also their masala omelette. Gets pretty full on weekends service ordinary but food tastes great. A winner

Samosas and the world of samoosa's are synonymous with each other. This restaurant is commonly regarded as an institution with the locals and it's for good reason. However I would strongly advise sticking to the samoosa's.

The restaurant is run by probably some of the most operationally efficient people you're likes to come across. They genuinely have a handle on the coming and goings outside of the kitchen. However we had to send back our butter chicken due to a terrible after taste and it was duly replaced by management. This was appreciated although you don't want it to happen in the first place. I've marked them down on this alone. The samoosa's were bloody amazing and at that price it's a steal. The decor is that of just about every generic Indian restaurant, it's themed but not a fine dining establishment set up by any stretch. The service was great, and as explained management had a handle on the front of house.

You'll see me again for sure, but only for samoosa's I'm afraid

Hi Was at House of samoosas this Monday 29 06 2015 for lunch.Ordered a tandoori chicken ,It was disgusting. No spices but lots of red colour. Then had the butter chicken. Disgusting!!!There was no cream but lots of red colour, spices none!I am sorry to say but the mutton samosas was mediocre. The filling was less and one does NOT put cabbage in a mutton samoosa!!! . I think they put cabbage to stretch the meat. Please close down!!!!

Hot Damn 'World of Samoosas' know how to make their Samoosas! This was one of the days were I skipped breakfast and entered uncharted territories of hunger throughout the morning. My team and I had to go to Oriental Plaza to get decor materials for our next event ( #KoolinInTheCity #28June) and we knew the reason so many of us had tagged along was because 'World of Samosas' awaited. We couldn't even pretend we had any other intentions for we beelined for the stall/restaurant the moment we arrived. For only R3.50 a Samoosa, you can afford to ball out! We got an assortment of Cheese & Onion, Salami& Cheese, Chicken, Prawn and Potato and they had that red sauce thingy in a tub to go with it....*wipes mouth*

Do yourself a favor and let them bless you with their Samoosas. *Sadie Voice* You're Welcome!

World of samoosas make great samoosas *go figure*

We stumbled past the teensy, busy entrance of World of Samoosas, weighed down with 10 million shopping bags and, as we inhaled the scent of hot oil and little morsels of samoosa-ey goodness frying away, our tummies rumbled, hungrily. So sate our appetite we did. We ordered 6 cheese and corn samoosas and 6 potato.

Yuuuuuuuuuuuum! Both variants were yum and if you think our selection was boring, you can opt for samoosas with prawns, beef mince, chicken ... yummy!

Just do it. Go eat samoosas!

As the title Is rather clear samoosas , so definetely try the samoosas . They have a long variety - and the dip is nice too ! The tiramisu is enjoyable . I didn't fancy anything else on the menu , but by the long awaiting que , I assume that must be cause I'm not clued up on the menu , and these experts know what to buy !

Tried World of Samoosa's with friends from Durban who raved about it and lived up to all the hype.

If you looking for fresh, hot, cripsy samoosa's to go along with your shopping at the Oriental Plaza then this is the place to go.

We tried a variety or flavours from my favorite cheese and corn to jalapeno samoosa's and they all where scrumptious.

The prawn samoosa and spinach and cheese where great contemporary fillings to the favorite Indian savoury.

Oh, yes. When a restaurant names itself after one dish, you can hope for the best, and World of Samoosas provides you with the very best! World of Samoosas consistently delivers on freshness and flavour, as evidenced by the dozen plus people in the queue at lunchtime. Try to go there after the peak hour, especially if you're hungry, or you may find your elbows getting sharp.

Order the mixed box of 12. The price is R34.50 for the dozen. Did you read that correctly? Thirty-four fifty for a DOZEN samoosas! They will be crisp, they will be fried, and they will taste great. Share with a friend if you're feeling generous...

I prefer the potato samoosa and the spinach & cheese. People rate the hot sauce very highly, but I don't go for spicy. Try it and see if you love it as much as 4 out of 5 people I know.

This is street food, so take it as such, but it's good street food. Go.
