Review Pauls - Johannesburg

This place was amazing! Very nice place to go out on a date, a family or friends get together, or even just to have a cup of coffee with a sweet snack. The interior design of the place was beautiful, it was very aesthetically pleasing. The service here was great, and very attentive. The food here was good, I would suggest you to buy a burger as it was very tasty. The other dishes weren't spectacular but was still good.

I’ve heard of PAUL quite often but could only go here now. The place was worth every hype. My personal favourite is the hot chocolate and almond croissant. One of the best I’ve had. The ambiance was quite “European”. The bakery is worth a shot.

Great spot for breakfast, lunch or dinner. I went for breakfast and got the red berry French toast with bacon. Service was very quick and attentive. The prices of the food is also reasonable and high quality. Only complaint is I wish they cooked my bacon longer. Would come back again for lunch to try something else.

When at Paul's, I recommend baked goods, the cakes were phenomenal 👌 light, fluffy and delicate, just delicious 😋 Disappointed with the quality of food, atleast the meal I had (classic burger and chips) the chips were absolutely delicious 😋 the burger was nothing to talk about. The ambience is truly elegant French. Love it 💜

We found this place on our last day in Jo’burg and I wish I had found it earlier! EVERYTHING WAS EXCELLENT! Service, ambience and the FOOOD!! Wow wow wow! We got the salmon and poached eggs on brioche bread: to DIE FOR! Flavours were so balanced and I’m usually very picky about my smoked salmon as some places have a smell in their smoked fish. This salmon was PERFECT! No smell! The French berry toast was good…have had better but their pain au chocolat and croissants were excellent: flaky and buttery! Yumm! Their cappuccino was on point! Must must visit again! And we loved the Melrose street PAUL cafe is on because it has many other restaurants and very inviting seating areas on the street. No cars allowed which makes it the best street to have a stroll. I’m sure the ambience is much better at night with the outdoor seating areas.

Delicious food. I was very disappointed with the dessert that I chose. Party with chocolate 🍫 and custard. It was underwhelming and I'm a dessert person. That burger was extremely delicious

This is how food and restaurant should be. Professional service. It's always magnificent to be here and I will always be here. This has become my place to chill.. That's a review I have 4 years ago😂😂 And oh boy, nothing has changed. So glad that this wonderful place survived covid. Still the best place by far. Wonderful for lunch over business meeting, family outing, or romantic date with your loved one.

This place strives to give everyone a 5-star experience. Whether you're grabbing some baked goods at the takeaway counter or sitting down for a sumptuous meal the staff are friendly and keen to make it as pleasant an experience as possible. The croque monsieur was far bigger and imposing than anything you'd typically find in a European outlet, South African sized portions for a South African market. It seems to work.
Hadiyah Kayoof
The location is great and safe, it almost feels like Europe. I tried the spinach feta and salmon quiche, it was okay, not fantastic. The salad wasn't seasoned and the lettuce wasn't cut. They made me work for it... On the other hand, the variety of the pastries look absolutely delicious. The coffee was okay. Good service but very slow.
Chantal Naidoo
Eggs Benedict was pretty good. The Broich bun was soft and airy (didn’t take a pic) Coffee is excellent. Service was good.

Had brunch with my daughter there recently. The food was delicious and service was excellent. Wide selection of pastry and breakfast options, classic PAUL style. Quite a popular place and gets a bit crowded after a while with other people waiting for tables. I would definitely come back when in the area.

Paul is a very popular spot. So much so that you are likely to wait a few minutes for a table. The wait staff, while very friendly, were very slow in bringing the orders out. Although that could have been the kitchen. Either way, a restaurant that busy should have their service waxed lest they incur the wrath of the Melrose Arch "Carens". The food was tasty, and the atmosphere was very pleasant. If you were to close your eyes, listen to the background music and smell the fresh coffee and pastries, one could easily imagine they were in a French cafe... in France.
Gladys Usayi
Had breakfast at this place on hubby s birthday. This place is an intersection of affordable, delicious, great ambience. We did not have a booking and had to wait 10 minutes to get a seat because it gets full.

Paul in Melrose Arch was a delightful experience. We were on vacation from Atlanta Ga, and our server Brian gave us a five-star service. In fact, we went back again and will return to Johannesburg and the Paul.

The venue is great on a nice warm afternoon. The food is amazing. We had the chicken burger and Salmon sandwich. The baguette is as good as those made in France. The chicken burger had a wonderful flavour but the parties were made thinly which did dry them out a bit but the onion marmalade enhanced the flavour altogether. The hot chocolate is one of the best I have tasted. Superb and smooth. The ice tea is also very refreshing. The biggest let down was the service. We waited so long for our order to be taken, our hot drinks were finished. We the. Had no1l one check on us during the meal and waited 15 minutes with hadns being raised for a further 5 before we were able to get the bill.

All I can say is incredible great service and food out of this world. It feels like I was back in Paris on a lazy summers day. Relaxing eating, drinking and watching 👀 who passes by. Diffently must visit if you are in Johannesburg.
Dan Moodley
Great French coffee shop and bakery. Had a very impressive breakfast as well. The toasted cheese sandwich though is my weakness here. Its toasted and then put into a broiler with cheese melted over the top. This should be illegal, it’s just decadent and moreish. The coffee and pastries are really good too.
Girl With No Name
My homegirl and I definitely found our new brunch spot like I felt at home. The staff, food ambience everything was above board

We run by Paul regularly to grab a chocolate eclaire or creme brulee. They are an all time favourite! However, they regularly run out of eclaires which tends to be disappointing. Although the rest of the menu is quite good, it is not as good as these two items so we don't end up ordering much else.
The food is beautifully presented and the service is fair. The real treat is the European old-school feel of the restaurant... From the decor to the uniforms! It makes for a fun experience
Belinda Wrigley
The food almost 2 hours to arrive with the manager and the waiter who kept telling us the food was coming. When it came, the omelettes were cold and overdone. Aweful experience. Poor service, poor quality food.

A simply amazing day today. I came here to celebrate my 25th birthday with my friends. The location is spot on to give you the European vibes. We order mimosa's, and I loved the fact that they used freshly squeezed orange juice. The breakfast was amazing, my friends went with the eggs benedict with salmon, and I had a poached egg with asparagus and salmon (I forgot what the dish was called) but it was amazing. The food quality and the service was on point. I was also given a complementary custard cake for my birthday, they didn't even ask for ID and went with my word and I appreciate this kind gesture. The pastries are heavenly. I bought a giant Macaroon, an eclair and a redvelvet cake for take away for my mom and she was so impressed. The restaurant is classy but not too overwhelming. The food prices are fair for what you get and I believe this is the second time I rate a restaurant a 5/5. It's the little things this place has gotten right. Even at the end of our meal, we got marshmallows with coconut on them and it was delicious and unexpected. Thank you so much Paul and to all your hard working and dedicated staff. You've made my birthday special and I'll definitely return without a doubt. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for good food, with an amazing ambiance and taste of France.

Great place for a light meal or a pastry and coffee that also make the best hot chocolate love the cakes and fresh baked bread serves with the meals

We were actually heading to a restaurant which was apparently under construction so Paul was not planned. As we walked towards the parking we got drawn to Paul and as usual I logged on onto Zomato to check out their vegetarian options. We decided to give it a try.

The staff was warm and lovely. Very professional. Very polite. Very friendly. The atmosphere and vibe really inviting hence we ended up there. The food though...oh my word! That was the best Vegetarian Aubergine Parmesan iv ever had! Everyone’s meal was unbelievable. My brother also Loved his birthday treat. Thank you so much for making my brother’s birthday lunch a success. Paul is a keeper!
Elle Mbadaliga
The food here is amazing. The decor is even better, the restaurant has such a relaxed and pleasant ambiance. The waiters are just okay. I enjoy going here for breakfast. Keep up the good work.
Nimmi Bhoolia
Great place to visit. Loved the breakfast and chocolate Croissants. But disappointed with the almond Croissant it lacked the almond flavour. I was under the impression that the filling would be mazipan😕

This is always my go to place for various meetings, because I can always guarantee mouth watering eats for everyone (vegetarians, vegans, and foodies) coffee is always amazing, service is tops! I went there last night and I left my cellphone in the uber, I cannot explain the extent that the manager Steven went through to get my cellphone back for me, he also arranged the driver a sandwich which was heart warming. I think many restaurants in Johannesburg can take a page from this book! Thank you so much!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

God made beautiful things in this world and one of them is definitely the grilled cheese, tomato pesto sandwich from here ❤️😩. Everytime I have it it’s done to perfection.

Great atmosphere... Great food... Great service! What more can you ask for. Oh yes, the background music makes you feel as if you already are in France.

Had a lovely experience at Paul's about one week ago. Perfect for a lunch date and the food is stunning. I had one of their delicious sandwiches with a coffee. Good work.
Deedee
A beautiful shop with a great cafe feeling especially when you see the pastries behind the glass! I watched a few very appetising salads go past and decided to order a chicken caesar salad..... this is what I got. 1 boiled egg, 1 very small chicken breast , some parmesan and 4 baby cos lettuce leaves. Yes,4 leaves. All this for R78.00. Enough said.

I finally managed to grab a bite at Paul for a quite lunch with a friend. I ordered the Brie, fig and garlic burger which is new of their menu. This was absolutely delicious. Their service however was on the slow side. I would however love to return and try more items in their menu.

Came here on Christmas eve with a friend. Although it was full must we patiently waited for a table and it came just in time. The food was amazing, double and fresh deserts too. The staff here is really friendly and always attend to your requests.
Heidi Bantam
We saw the pastries from across the road and had to have a closer look. Tempted, I settled on an apple foldover, which was quite light and delicious. The mille feuille was a treat too. We’ll definitely try to pop in whenever we’re in the centre.
Andrew
I visit the Bakery counter every Friday and the service is shocking, either there are no staff in attendance or they are too busy chatting. No evidence of supervision. On 3 occasions I have complained to the people in White Coats and am assured it will be attended to, clearly a waste of time. Today I purchased 6 croissants at a cost of R25.00 each, really?
My wife and I are regular visitors to the restaurant and the quality of the food is always very good and we always recommend Pauls to our friends. in fact we celebrate most of our special occasions there.
I do however question the price of the croissants and the pathetic service at the Bakery counter. Surely you guys can do better than that.
The Food Musketeer
15.12.2018 I recently joined a Food Photographer and a Chef to learn some tips and tricks to taking better food pics on our cell phones. It was a great morning meeting new people and learning a few new things. The breakfast menu was specifically designed for our morning session, as well being extremely halaal friendly. Although Paul's is not Halaal, they are very conscious of the Halaal Community and are more than willing to assist with any special requirements you may have. Speak to the manager and staff for assistance, and they will be more than happy to oblige. We received such great service from them on the day.

The Food itself was delicious. We had a choice in each course. We started off with drinks, i got to try a Cafe Medici - Espresso Shot with Orange Zest, Chocolate, Froth Milk and Cocoa powder. First course was a Parfait - Passion Fruit Yoghurt with Passion fruit Pulp, Pumpkin Seeds, Linseeds, Almonds, Walnuts and Roasted Granola. Absolutely tasty and of course healthy. Next up was Croissant Chėvre & Mile, a croissant filled with Goats cheese, Spinach, Honey and Walnuts. Fresh and full of flavour, the salad dressing was a bit tart, i would have liked some cherry tomatoes to cut through. We were do fully stuffed to the brim, i couldn't fit in dessert. They have a fantastic variety of goodies for all tastes. I took the Strawberry Tart, the tart base was amazing. Love it. Thank you to Devin and the team for a great morning.

#TheFoodMusketeerEats
#TheFoodMusketeerDrinks
#TFMPauls

Good location and lives up to the international brand ambience with large variety on the French feel menu.
Only tasted the crepe au poulet which was as rich as you'd expect from French cuisine and a banana, date, nut smoothie but would choose it over a lot of other options in Melrose Arch.
Cheesecake
The service was absolutely shocking. We only received our drinks 30 minutes after we placed our order and I was only told 30 minutes after I had placed my order, that they could not make it. Needless to say, I received my meal only after one and a half hours. Most definitely will not be visiting again.

Decor is upmarket. Friendly staff as well.
Their bakery is always a good idea to visit in order to take some goodies home for your evening tea.

Food is the taste of home I suppose...almost.

So it took me long enough to eventually get to Paul. I thought taking my aunt and uncle out for lunch on their 40th Anniversary will be difficult as I had to choose something worth remembering and so I chose Paul. I must say it definitely was worth the R2000 + bill. It was a bit pricey but worth every rand. The place is fabulous, our waitress Zeldah was great, the food was definitely scrumptious, 5 different dishes and starters all delicious, and a big thank you to Devan for taking a reservation even if they don’t reserve tables. Will definitely be back....
Kayla Groth
Paul is a pretty little French inspired cafe. The decor is lovely. The breakfasts are light and yummy. I would definitely go back. It's a great start to the day.
Theoalexis5
I love where it is located , amazing spot indeed , amazing service , good food , sort of pricey for a cafe though but I would go again , I love the French based accents at the cafe , the music .
Thandi Mpanza
I couldn’t hold my excitement when Paul came to South Africa. The service is nice but they can certainly still improve, it can be a bit slow but generally it’s good. I literally live for their fish and prawn curry - the flavours just burst in your mouth. Their macaroons, how can I forget them - amazing!
Santana De Melo
Awesome hot chocolate although I remember it being far better the last time. Way too much icing on the carrot cake, not the best I've had. Waitress wasn't the friendliest. I'll probably try some other options before going back there.

Beautiful experience at French restaurant in the heart of Melrose.
(Skip to the bottom for bullet points)

Went on a sunny Sunday morning. The hosts greeted us warmly as we arrived. Freshly baked bread was served as we placed our orders. Romantic and familiar French songs played gently in the background.

Paul has 3 different menus, which I discovered when I asked about alcoholic beverages ( Dont feel bad for ordering a drink before 12) . The waitress didn’t hesitate to present the lunch menu with the grown up drinks.

The orange coffee with chocolate sauce is a must for cappuccino lovers .I ordered the berry French toast , which was light, fluffy and decadently glazed with naturally sweets raspberries and strawberries . The mascarpone cheese balanced the sweetness in the most gentle way making a it a suitable breakfast . I was glad that the menu caters well to both sweet tooths and savory pallets . I had a grande vanilla macaroon just to add the French experience .

As a farewell we were served with the most delightful marshmallows you’ll ever taste .

Bullets
-I suggest making a reservation because the seating was full by the time we left (11:40 AM).
-Exceptional service!
-Good potion sizes for price
-Comfortable indoor and outdoor seating
Spaces for groups (+5 people)
- free parking very nearby
-perfect to cycle by

Our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. Every plate of food that arrived at our table was well presented and tasty. Desserts were a plenty and did not disappoint - the Custard Slice was yummy, the Creme Brulee was superb and the Macaroons were melt in your mouth delicious.
Keshoalyn
Great French dining experience. Trying there signature hot chocolate was a pleasure as it was a rich dark chocolate taste with a faint bitter after taste. Service was very good, waiter were fast to respond and very respectful toward my family and I.

Who doesn’t know Paul’s? Or seen Instagram flooded with perfect flat lays of coffee and pastries!

My first time having it in SA, I was however very underwhelmed by the menu variety. To be honest, I was expecting options upon options to drive me insane. Alas, none of that, but rather a short and limited menu.

Beautiful setting, very chic and Parisian. Super busy, so expect to wait for a table. Despite how busy they are, the service was good.

The pastry cases are filled with beautiful sweet treats, which I was trying very hard to control myself around. So, I opted for an almond croissant to accompany my hot chocolate.

For my actual breakfast, I ordered the spinach and feta toasted sandwich with honey and walnuts. Hold up, what combination? Yes, my thoughts exactly, but it was deliciously satisfying with salty, savory and sweet notes. Highly recommended.

Next visit, I’m not holding back on the pastry cases.

This was a total disappointment and bad food. The manager tony was really sweet but the desserts were horrid. The chocolate torte tasted like butter and cheap chocolate melted together and the chocolate nips were tasteless . The custard slice was dry and overly sweet. The strawberry milkshake tasted like a bubblegum milkshake. The service was ok but I have had better desserts from a Sunday market at half the price. The worst chocolate dessert I have ever tasted.

Paul is such a classy little spot and whenever I visit it I feel like I am sitting in a cafe in Paris. I went there for breakfast on Saturday morning and ordered the mince and cheese in a sour dough bread basket with a fried egg on top and my friend ordered the classic eggs benedict. Both breakfasts were outstanding! The cappuccino was unfortunately too milky and insipid.
From passing the store front on most mornings, on my way to work, I can't believe it took me so long to finally experience the opulence that is Paul. The patisserie is located in the perfect spot on the Melrose Boulevard. It's outside seating and Parisian inspired decor make for a comfortable and relaxing time.
The Chenin Blanc we had was sublime and the Lemon Meringue tartlet changed my life completely.
Adri Kleinhans
The service at this restaurant is absolutely shocking. We ordered 2 coffees and 1 water, which took 20 minutes to be delivered and 1drink was wrong. The waiters simply stand around and ignore customers. We will not be returning
UrsulaD
A wonderful Parisian feel to this gorgeous place. The food was amazing and the service impeccable.
First time there I could not decide on which pastries to have with our coffee so took a selection home. What a treat! They were all divine!
Definitely my favorite place
Adele Du Toit
Lovely ambiance with black and white tiled floor and moody French music. Great cappuccino and big selection of confectionery. Bakery looks good
Noluthando Dlova
It's disappointing that you run out of stock on certain menu items. It has happened 3 times that I was told, sorry, we have ran out of stock. The chicken here had to replace roast chicken that was sold out. Please look into your stock shortages. Otherwise, the food is good.
The Schoeman Brothers
Paul is probably the best patisserie and cafe I have been to so far. The ambience is cozy but spacious and there is magnificent decoration which makes you feel you are in Paris. Service is efficient and the homemade iced teas are liquid gold. I had the chicken tagliatelle. It was creamy and all the ingredients went together like a jigsaw puzzle. The waiters and waitresses are attentive and will answer any queries etc. Definitely will return without a doubt. Wonderful restaurant!
TerryP801
Firstly the milk tart was absolutely delicious as well as the French croissant, amazing service accompanied with theeeee best cappuccino, really hit the spot 😀
Zachary Buillon
Lovely atmosphere and great welcome. Got a seat even though it was very busy!

Service was quick and attentive with a smile (always a positive)

They brought fresh bread which was a lovely touch and with home made butter it was just magical! The food was incredible. We had the Salmon Benedict and the French toast. Both of which were mind blowing! We are now on our way to get some pastries 😎

Thanks Paul.... we will be back.... again and again.... and again..... and again....

Ps- the value for money was incredibly good!
Megz Mackintosh
First experience at Paul and it was great! Absolutely delicious sweet treats.. I had the carrot cake that was one of the best I’ve had. The only reason I’m not giving full stars is because the service wasn’t good at all. We had several waiters because our order wasn’t coming. I will definitely go back!
Emma Kayleigh
Nothing better on a cold winters morning than a warm breakfast and of course, some takeaway pastries. All round good experience, good food, friendly staff and amazing bakery.
Ashdesai5
Really nice selection of Pastries and cakes. Food menu is also good, but I do think there are better cafes to go to for the food. Paul’s is a must visit for their pastries and coffee. Great location in Melrose Arch
Chloe Watson
Lovely atmosphere, delightful food and treats, limited options but everything and anything you order comes to perfection
The hazelnut hot chocolate is a must have!
The service is great! And it’s always full so you can expect a little bit of a wait for a table but it is worth it
Steven Myeni
Warm beautiful ambiance. The food is really thought through. Portions are a bit big for me but I absolutely enjoyed the steak and the Crème brûlée.
Mosa Mashati
What a lovely place to spend basking in the sun for a warm Sunday brunch. I would personally give it a 4 but the service was not up to par, we had to wait about 10 minutes to place an order and our initial waiter seemed to forget us often so we had to keep asking for assistance.
I ordered their carrot juice and the other lady(who wasn’t our waiter) was nice enough to put together a breakfast croissant for me even though they don’t offer all day breakfast!
It was delicious and their lemon green tea was absolutely amazing! They make the tea themselves so I will definitely be heading back there to purchase it!
Sita
I tried out this spot for the first time - and I'm happy that I did. They have a handful of vegan options to choose from (5, if memory serves me correctly) and maybe double the number of vegetarian options.

I had the 'Hummus and Roast Veg' ciabatta, with a lettuce salad and vegan dressing. The veg was cooked just right to preserve their natural taste. Absolutely delicious! Although my waiter got my order mixed up, the service itself wasn't slow.

I'm pretty sure I'll be returning to this place again. Something about the restaurant ambience felt... comfortable.
Danielle Botha
Paul has a definite Parisian atmosphere with an absolutely delicious menu to boot. I found it incredibly difficult to decide what to eat! Another bonus is the beautiful decor, and the street-side seating available that truly mimics the real experience in France.

The restaurant has delicious wine, that went well with all the dishes. The Croque Monsieur was crisp and cheesy and gooey, as it should be. Another delicious menu item is the baked camambert cheese with divine bread, but my favourite was the Club Au Crevette, a wonderful club sandwich with juicy prawn meat, avocado and tomato. So simple yet incredibly delicious.

The desserts here are phenomenal. The crème brûlée is amazing, and the tarts and macaroons are also sublime. The hazelnut hot chocolate is one of the best I've had.

The only downside would be some slow service as the place felt a bit understaffed. Otherwise, Paul's was a wonderful taste of Paris here at home.
Jillian Nyakane
We were happy to get a table on Friday evening though we had not booked. My friend has been to the Paul in London and she highly recommends it.

The food was really yummy. I had the broccoli soup which was tasty. The carrot cake was divine!!!
Ij
Previously had lovely breakfast at Paul. Great coffee! Lovely breads, eggs & parfaits.
Recently went for dinner - both soup & sandwich were very disappointing.
Nice macarons.
Farzana Dalvie
I love the Parisian feel one gets when walking into Paul’s, the smell of fresh pastries and the array of sweet treats being displayed. I opted for a savory mushroom pancake and hot chocolate this time. The pancake was tasty and filling ,while the hot chocolate was heavenly. The slow service was a let down and needs some work.

What a good experience was had at Paul's. The service was lovely and friendly.
The chocolate crepe was light and perfectly sweet, fresh strawberry and a decaf cappuccino to accompany it. Prefect! The chocolate tart was a good quality dark chooclate filling and bits of dark chooclate garnishing the tip layer. A bit over dark for me but overall a good experience on the whole with good quality caffeine.
Chairs are comfy and the restaurant is tastefully set up. Beautiful clean toilets as well.
Will be back to try more of their fresh baked goods on display.

What a cute place in Melrose, it’s a great place for breakfast or brunch with the girls.

Went there to celebrate but unfortunately they didn’t serve alcohol before 1 (don’t judge me) but I thought I’d have a mimosa. Food, was ok I am yet to have the pastries that will be my next mission.
Pete Quinn
when arrived ahead of my business colleagues I waited 15 mins to be served. Then went to ask if it was self service. my cellgue arrived after that. he waited 20 mins after my poor service was already conveyed to them. While waiting and after coffee was seviced, I was not asked whether I would like to order anything form the menu which was given to me earlier. I did actually want a pastry but did not have opportunity to order one.

Paul is a lovely restaurant in Melrose Arch. the service is great and even better vibe. i had the open Salmon sandwich which had a generous amount of salmon but felt quite dry. the soup of the day was seafood and it was lovely. the cake was so lovely and tender. overall a good afternoon
Gabrielzaidman02
Decided to visit this restaurant for Mother’s Day Breakfast, despite the wait of 45 mins to get in, this place really exceeded my expectations! The food was absolutely amazing! Got a complimentary Mother’s Day cake, as well as complimentary beverages while waiting for a table! The breakfast was outstanding! We had the eggs Benedict Salmon, which was cooked to perfection, and tasted really good! I am very much looking forward to try this restaurant for dinner in the near future! Good job!

Such a cute place but I hate it when waiters see me walk in but no one tries to assist me so I jus have to stand around like I’m lost it’s honestly off putting. Anyway I decided to sit outside and wait for my best friend. Our waitress came but I decided to order only when my guest arrived. Finally she arrived and ordered our drinks. Settled for a chicken club sandwich and she ordered some pizza bread thing. When my order arrived I noticed that mountain on my plate “cries in bad food habits” lol. It looked divine. I did not know how I was gonna eat that but I was not going to fail at this test. The sandwich was everything and more. I spilled my drink on my phone and the entire table. Since there was no waiter in sight we had to use serviettes. Finally I saw one of the guys in lab coats and asked if they had a mop and extra serviettes. It took a little longer than I would have liked and I was a little disappointed. I finished half my sandwich and decided to get a doggy bag. Our waitress was too pleasant either. But based solely on food I would 100% recommend this place.

Lovely afternoon spent lynching with my friend. Our waitress was attentive. Menu was nice and varied. My friend had the salmon, and I had the chicken and mushrooms dish. Omg, my chicken and mushrooms dish was delicious. I will definitely be back to try other dishes.
Ronecia M
I really enjoyed the ambience of the restaurant. It gave me Paris vibes☺️. Everything else was okay, nothing out of the ordinary. I was here for lunch and I had the Chicken with Mustard. I would’ve enjoyed it more if the mustard didn’t over power the chicken so much.
Teekay Mhlongo
So where do I start ? This restaurant is stunning from inside out . So sadly I haven’t been to Paris yet (not now doesn’t mean never 😊) this place atleast gave me an idea or experience of Paris . My lunch dates and I were in awe of how good our food tasted 💯, that so far has to be one of the best lunches I’ve had . So we decided to order something light (starters) so we would have enough space for a drink and their yummy tasting desserts. Not only do they look good they taste even better 🤭. Overall the location, interior, food , well everything 🤗. Not forgetting the awesome, funny and knowledgeable waitress we had (I feel so bad because I forgot her name ) all I can say is waste no time bro and go to Pauls😍. Plus it’s the name of one of my favorite Apostles 😁

Paul’s is such a lovely bakery/cafe, the decor of the establishment is so inviting you can’t help but want to go in and dine. When I walked in to this establishment i waited a bit before I got seated and service started off a bit slow, wasn’t chaffed at all. It picked up after we ordered drinks and our food. Our waiter was very friendly and very attentive.

The food from starter to dessert were nothing short of yummy 😋 we throughly enjoyed ourselves. I was a bit disappointed that the pastry section wasn’t replenished as the pasty chefs were still busy baking. Lol, I felt cheated that I couldn’t have what I wanted, anyway besides that, Paul’s is a must for any occasion.
Michaela Leon
A really cosy bakery.
I really couldn't decide what I wanted, as there was such a great spread. Everything looked so tempting. We decided to go with cheese cake, really smooth and dreamy. 🌟🌟🌟🌟
We started off our experience with a cappuccino and it was good, not too bad. For our mains we had a tomato based pasta with various vegetables (Tagliatelles aux lègumes). The pasta was not too bestgreat as it had a bit of an off taste. However, the burgers were really tasty, the buns were the best part of it. The two burgers we tried were the classic beef burger and the bacon, Brie, caramelised onion and garlic aïoli. Make sure you’re a fan of garlic before ordering that option. Our meal ended off with a custard slice (Millefeuille Nature) which in all honesty was a bit small for its price and just wasn’t too tasty. The service and atmosphere is really what made the experience.
Karien Spreeth
Beautiful setup. We ordered a Latte and Marocchinos. Very good flavours. Unfortunately the Flan was old and rubbery as well as the Canele. The Millefeuille was very good though. Service was excellent and although we probably won’t try the pastries again soon, we would try a nice meal instead next time.

My Fiancé and I decided to try this restaurant for some brunch. And it was the most incredible food experience I've ever had. Friendly staff, good service and the food is absolutely incredible!.

They Bring you freshly baked mini rolls with freshly made butter that is to die for.

I had the lobster pot pie and the pastry was super light, crispy and buttery. Most places skimp on the lobster but this place really is generous with their lobster.

My fiance had the the steak and chips. Steak cooked perfectly, lovely and juicy.

Highly recommend this place!

The excitement around Paul when it first arrived was well founded. This is an absolute breakfast treat, with a truly Paul’s menu.

Their decor easily transports you to the Paris, with the smell of freshly baked pastries hanging in the air.

The food is simple and elegant, a firm favourite is any dish that is served with a hash brown.

Their pastry counter is a delight, stuff full of breads and the most delicious and beautiful treats.

All in all a great experience. Thanks Paul!

Whoever Paul is. I like Paul. ❤ Went to Paul on a Friday afternoon for brunch. I picked a sunny and warm day so I could sit outside comfortably to people watch and take great pictures of the food courtesy of great natural lighting.

It was a great pick. Paul is on a corner on a somewhat busy street in Melrose Arch. It's suitably located coupled with a great ambience.

The service was okay but the food was amazing. Their cuppacino with cream and some chocolate cake thing I had was divine. I loved the Chicken pasta (and still water too 🤣). I topped it off with the lemonade which was refreshing but a bit on the sweet end, I added more ice and that did the trick.

*EDITed* I went back for dinner with colleagues and we loved every minute of it. The food was great and easy on the pocket. It was a hit. All I'm missing now is a breakfast experience.

Lovely breakfast place or if you want to grab a light meal. I opt for a few desserts and a cappuccino. Paul signature hot chocolate is amazing. Both occassions that i had eclairs they were dry (still good though).

A beautiful setting with a lovely european cafe feel. Stopped by for coffee, service was fantastic, coffee was excellent. The pastries on display was so tempting! Will make a point of sampling some soon!

Viva La France!!! They have come to South Africa. The last time i had a proper french croissant was when i was a kid and went to France for a holiday. Being half French, i just had to go and try this place out. Now, for the record, i am not a fan of Famous Brands. So i was nervous trying them out. Holy crap, we got there, and the queues were loooong. Put our names on the waiting list and went shopping. Our table was ready. Upon entering Paul's, you are greeted with a pastry display that makes your mouth drool. Ordered food and i can say it was amazing. My only put off was that some waiters and the Barista were fighting and it was getting louder and louder. Had to call the manager, who i can say handled the situation extremely well. What i also enjoyed was the fact that you could see some pastry chefs behind a glass wall preparing pastries. My only hope is that Famous Brands remains investors and that the Company itself is run by the French.

#KevFabFood finally made it to Paul in Melrose Arch. Came for tea and cake. It is such a fab and stylish café - I was blown away by the impeccable service and phenomenal variety - had the Orange Coffee (cappuccino with chocolate sauce and orange zest) and the Flan Normand (apple and almond flan) - both delicious and truly special! Highly recommended...5 fab stars indeed! 👍🏼🏳️‍🌈👏🏼

Another terrible experience at Paul, Melrose Arch.

I ordered the salmon croissant which was brought appropriately cut in half. However the texture of the j side of the croissant was more like government brown bread rather than the expected layers of flaky pastry. Clearly either the wrong dough had been used, or the dough had been overworked resulting in the too-tight texture. I politely called the waitress over and asked for it to be taken back as the croissant was not a croissant. The next second the manager of the day - this is the same manager who proudly told me that they serve Cross & Blackwell mayonnaise rather than making their own when I sent that back - came striding across the floor with a croissant on a plate (uncut). He proceeded to tell me that THIS is what a croissant looks like and that I can take it or leave it. I declined to acquiesce to his aggressive tone and politely declined the offer.

Having said that, the Eggs Benedict my companion ordered, was really good. We shared the meal. The brioche was lovely, the eggs cooked as ordered, the bacon beautifully crispy. The hollandaise was without fault too.

I am utterly confused by how they can get one meal so right - including hollandaise sauce - and another so wrong. In any event it is the tone and attitude set by the staff that is more problematic no matter the food.

Having done the right thing in bringing my concerns to the attention of the establishment, and having now given Paul more than 3 attempts to ‘get it right’ I will now permanently take my custom elsewhere. The manager appears to delight in being aggressive towards customers, even if you are somewhat knowledgeable about what your order should look, and taste, like.

I won’t be back.

Fantastic food - I had the fish of the day which was marvelous, however the service was not great. Too many waiters that stand around chatting to each other. Didn't ask if you wanted more drinks, and were very slow in cleaning up finished dishes

An authentic French experience. I've dined here once and loved the experience. The service was great and the food was fresh and delicious.

Mostly, I come here for a cup of coffee and every now and then treat myself to a macaroon! Their macaroons are absolutely divine! They are made fresh every day and come in various flavours and sizes, they are definitely worth a try! Be warned though, they are not cheap, an average tray of around 10-12 small macaroons is R200!

Just had a coffee and macaroons here the other evening but it was lovely. So authentic in all aspects. Looking forward to returning soon to try out the menu.

Nice atmosphere, good vibe. Service was mediocre. Whilst there are several “vegetarian” options- most of these are made with egg. Poor, if non-existent offerings for vegan.

Nice place to eat whether it be for breakfast or lunch or just cake. Really organized place with friendly staff. The food was really tasty and portion sizes were good. All the food was fresh. The hot chocolate was amazing as it’s pure chocolate.

First time I went was a farewell dinner and I must say I enjoyed my experience. The staff was friendly, food even though a tad too rich was excellent and the ambience was something I'd take other companions to.

I’ve revisited Paul and my confusion with what is on offer remains. This is one of those very difficult-to-rate places because it’s full of divergence. The service of managers is phenomenally good, waiters, however, are indifferent. This time, however, our service was the complete opposite with exceptional service from our waiter but an uncompromisingly patronizing attitude from management. The atmosphere is vibrant and lively but the lighting is pretty harsh and clinical indoors. The coffee is outstanding...the food is REALLY disappointing - expect heavy omelettes with undercooked fillings, hashbrowns probably out of a freezer bag and salad tomatoes that really shouldn’t be the variety used when they’re a main component of a dish. This place might carry the name Paul but it simply doesn’t match up to the international stores I’ve eaten at.

The macaroons are to die for and haven't had a better one elsewhere 🎉 I love the decor and the location is great! p.s. the savoury items need some work.

A classic adapted to South Africa. The best thing is its macarons. For the rest, you may find better options in the town. The uniforms of waitress and waitrons are funny.

Paul’s is absolutely beautiful. We arrived on a Friday morning at 10:30 and the shop was very busy. The service was quite good for a shop this busy.

The quality of food and coffee was no great though. The signature coffee cups, whilst beautiful to look at, are very big and cappuccino in such a big cup with only one shot of espresso... well makes for more of a latte actually.
The food was much the same. Very big portions but just not very well prepared nor was it particularly tasty. The food had an almost pre-made feel.

From the look... I expected more. I will try again, just to be sure that it wasn’t just an unlucky day.

Having seen Paul in Europe I thought I would give it a try. I had a pink old fashioned lemonade to start off, it was too sweet for me and I didn't taste the lemon at all. Then I had the vegetable pasta which was really delicious. I then ended my meal with the eclair with strawberries and cream which was pretty average - too much icing sugar on top and the cream wasn't fluffy. My friends said the strawberry tart was delicious and wasn't too sweet. All in all, the experience wasn't too bad, but I did expect to be better. Wish their staff could give more details on what the baked goodies were made of though.

Tonight we tried Pauls at Melrose Arch, which I have been dying to try. From start to finish it was a very disappointing experience. The service was poor, given they were busy. But there were waiters wondering around seemingly doing nothing.

The food was really disappointingly below average. My boyfriend had the burger, which he said was okay. I had the mushroom ravioli, the pasta was undercooked (if I had sent itGreg Cohen back it would have overcooked) and it was lacking in flavour. I covered it in salt and pepper. For what one pays I expected a bigger portion and it left me rather hungry, too the point where I stopped to get a take away from a fast food establishment. Which was half the price and tastier.

The pastries in the displays also don't look that great, but maybe they taste good, I can't judge purely on visuals there.

I won't be going back anytime soon.

Anyway happy new year fellow foodies. I hope 2018 brings you happiness and good times and of course great food!

The coffee was good. But pastries tasted eggy in an unexpected way. Service slow on a quiet night, with most of the restaurant empty. The decor is lovely though, with the extra touches in the bathroom adding to the mood.
An average experience.

A true European experience. Excellent food and service. Food was hot and beautifully presented. Ambience European and buzzing. A new favorite restaurant for me.

Very sad for a beautiful establishment. We sat down for some dessert and some wedges for our little toddler. The wrong milkshake was served, we were told that the wedges were coming but then told they ran out of wedges. Our waitress did not apologize for the wrong milkshake. At the end we were charged for an item that we did not receive because we were told that it was sold out. All in all a very disappointing experience. I do understand busy nights and items being sold out closer to the end of the day but at least apologise and have a friendly face. It’s all about the experience.

Ideal for brunch on weekends. The food is good but the standard falls a little bit short compared to the international Paul restaurants I’ve been to (Dubai & UK). Overall, good food and service. I’m not a big fan of their restaurant set up, but it’s not off putting. The other great thing about this restaurant is that the food is fairly priced.

I have visited Paul’s in Melrose Arch several times. PAUL is a French Family owned Bakery and Patisserie. My favourite tarts are the smooth vanilla custard pastry tartlets and the lemon meringue tarts.

As you walk in you see a display of the bakery Golden croissants, tempting Pain au Chocolats with rich croissant dough surrounding a heart of dark chocolate, a rainbow display of macarons, mouthwatering traditional Eclairs and sweet puff pastry with tart apple sauce or smooth vanilla custard cream and apricots stand ready to lure you in for a taste.

The glory doesn’t end with the pastries, they bake deliciously fresh hand-crafted traditional French breads which come in a variety of shapes and makes, each offering a taste revelation. What would ordinarily be a warm bun scattered with poppy or sesame seeds paired with the baked Camembert cheese, caramelised onions.

“ Paris is always a good idea “

A few months ago we were blessed enough to go to Paris where we tasted the best croissants and the best macaroons. We missed Paris a little bit and thought how about trying some French cuisine to fill that little memory lane void. So off we went to Paul's, especially hearing all the hype about it. P ordered this chicken crepe with lots of cheese.. let's just say we didn't see the crepe.. very rich if you not used to cheese..but if you love cheese you will love this dish.
I had a salmon eggs Benedict which I must say was amazing. The salmon was generous and the hollandaise sauce was just spectacularly tasty.
As I wanted to try the croissants, I asked the waiter to bring it before the breakfast so i can try it out.. he forgot, he made a few errors which I didn't want to make a fuss and just let it go. The food and the coffee was spectacular.
I took a few take away items, took macaroons home to try and I must admit that I was a bit dissapointed as the macaroons didn't remind me of the ones we had on the Eiffel Tower, unfortunately the centre part was like a jelly in stead of a cream. The croissants we took was amazing.. that reminded me of the breakfast I had in Paris for sure...it was so fresh you could taste the butter and different layers in the croissant. So yes I will be back, will ask for a different and more attentive waiter.. well done guys

If you’re looking for a place to grab takeout or sit in of a light meal and a huge variety of pastries with a lovely interior and the friendliest staff, Paul’s is the place to go! Their sandwiches and pastries are delicious!

Beautiful interiors, delicious food. Paul is my go to for something light and on the go. Definitely more breakfast and lunch time vibe. Best eclairs in this neck of the woods. Paul has brought a piece of Paris home for us. Staff are always friendly and on the ball.

The establishment of course will come with great expectation given its long line of European heritage and sophistication of the patisserie craftsmanship. The menu is well crafted with options for nearly every meal of the day.

My experience though I would say was pretty average from ambience, service and dessert/tea option meal. I get it; it's an old French bakery styled in its classic Parisian decor with patisserie chefs donned with white dust coats doing their mandatory checkin's with patrons to give that pseudo authentic hospitality. General service will disappoint though as waiters lack the understanding of the menu or the sophistication of premium patisserie. I believe an establishment like Paul is the whole experience of craftmanship which should draw you in from the service then to the meal itself otherwise I'm better off just going across the road to that old American franchise which will give me the same experience with no expectation.

Went for dessert option off the menu which was the their Profiteroles with Vanilla ice and chocolate sauce while sipping on Paul's tea selection. It was just average and felt the pastry a bit hard perhaps even matching fast food type quality. Tea options was Darjeeling and rooibos but felt it was quite weak despite steeping for over 10min.

Will give the establishment a try for another time of day and perhaps will have a different experience that will hold up against its long held tradition.
