Really, really enjoyed my Saturday afternoon here. The Aperol Spritz I had was delicious & potent. The spicy Moroccan chicken dish I ordered was cooked to perfection and tasted divine. Really can't fault anything here except the cocktail prices which are a bit hefty.. Can't wait to go back again.
Great tasting food and good service. I had a tramezzini on the first visit, which was absolutely delicious. The chicken salad on the second visit is among the best I’ve tasted, not just a bunch of greens tossed together. The half portion was more than enough. I will definitely visit this joint again.
We ordered a chicken schnitzel and a toasted chicken mayo. The chicken mayo was really good. The chicken schnitzel was a really big portion served on a bed of spaghetti. The restaurant does get a bit too noisy because of the small area. Definitely worth a try.
Stopped by for a quick dinner and wow, thoroughly enjoyed our meal and service was efficient and friendly. The fillet was cooked to perfection and I had it with mash that was just delicious. Ribs were really tasty too. Overall such a great evening, we'll be back 😄

Lovely restaurant with good quality food. I've tried the sandwiches here but the meat dishes are what I've enjoyed most. The steak and egg combo especially makes for a hearty brunch. The fries on the side are super yummy! Overall it's a great place to enjoy a casual lunch or dinner.
It is easier to write a bad review than a good one. And to write a piece on this restaurant is especially difficult. JB Rivers is a wonderful Mediterranean restaurant with very high quality food at reasonable prices with friendly service and incredible sushi. I have never been to restaurant that excels so brilliantly at everything they do with such a vast variety of dishes. It was so good the first time I went there that even though there are thousands of restaurants in Joburg. I still went back the next day...
This is by far the best "any time of day" restaurant I've experienced in Jhb. Every thing on the menu is superb from breakfast to dinner. I consider myself a food critic and frequent this spot regularly. It goes without saying that i highly recommend it. One would think that because it's inside a mall there would be some pitfalls but I'm yet to find one. The set up and ambiance is wonderful - relaxed and social. The staff friendly. 12/10 from me :) keep up the good standard!
JB Rivers in Hyde Park is my favourite place in winter. The service is excellent and everything is fresh and tasty. Their bar one cake has definitely been the tastiest I've had thus far. I would definitely recommend JB Rivers if you're in the area.
Had a very good breakfast, very fresh produce, crispy rye bread. I could assemble my own breakfast which was great. The only complaint is that I wasn't asked how I would like my poached eggs and as a result I got them way too well done for my liking. But overall friendly staff and tasty food even if the venue itself seems too open for me.
JB Rivers was amazing, we stumbled upon it after late afternoon drinks on a Friday hoping to get a delicious bite before going back for more drinks. We chose it for the wide selection from the menu and all ended up choosing Sushi. We'll certainly be back for the burgers and pastas😋
As two ravenous runners we sat down for a hearty brunch. One obsessed with Omelettes, he swears they make the best, and me on a quest to find the ultimate Arrabbiata. Both such simple dishes yet not so easy to get smashingly right. On the Arrabbiata, I throughly enjoyed the sauce but found the pasta underdone. Both dishes were nice sized portions with the omelette being robust. Service was under par with our waiter MIA half the time. A comfortable and convenient setting, perfect for pre/post movie munch. An impressive and varied menu.

J.B. Rivers is one of those places you go to for quick dinner after the movies or work. With lots of simple delicious options on the menu and great service it’s what I call an old faithful. You can always be sure you will get good quality food here no matter what.
Consistent taste and very generous plate size. The problem for me, the waiter never asked if we wanted half or full portion. This sounds silly but they charge for full immediately and there is so much waste. Sushi is good, fresh, but again you can't fit the pieces in your mouth. You would much rather have more smaller pieces that were easier to eat. Other than that a nice dinner if your in the mall.
Popped in for dinner - absolutely enjoyed our meals we tried the schnitzel, but substituted mushroom sauce, with fresh porchini and the kingklip with sweet potato and roasted vegetables.
JB Rivers has a good food menu selection and wine selection . I also noticed that they have few Banting meals so will sure be back to try their Banting meals and breakfast .

The restaurants in Johannesburg seem to be a lot more jacked up that in Cape Town. Three of us had a fantastic meal here at JB Rivers today at Lunch time.
We started with a Caesar salad to share which was excellent. We all had fillet steaks as a main. They were tender and tasty and the sauces were absolutely outstanding. Two of us had mushroom sauce and one peppercorn. They were tops.
Outstanding quality, great vibe and good service.
We ended with cappuccino each which was good too. I would certainly recommend this fantastic restaurant.
Salads options are awesome infact the menu has something for everyone. Service can be a little slow when its busy but overall a great spot to grab a bite to eat

Stopped by for a quick lunch, nice menu with daily off the menu specials as well. The wait staff are attentive and friendly. Everything that came out the kitchen looked good, we tried the tramezzinis and salads, which were hearty portions and quite good. An added bonus is they serve the select five roses speciality teas!
All boxes ticked! Great menu, excellent service, tasty food. You can see that this is a well established & experienced restaurant, but looking around at the patrons, they varied from 5 to 95 and everybody seemed to have something yummy & smile inducing in front of them. As I've said before, I'm not a fan of Shopping Centre Restaurants, but JB's proved to be the perfect pre-movie drink & snack spot!
Great place to meet a friend for a glass of wine, had a reunion there recently and it was pumping. Great vibe, trendy, fab atmosphere and service, recommended

Went here for lunch on Friday afternoon. Service was good to an extent but waiters were a bit inattentive since my friend dropped water on her chair and had to actually stand up to get attention. Guys usually go here for sushi however I found the sushi very very mediocre. It wasn't bad but nothing to call home about. The espresso woke me up so it was kinda the highlight. Won't be back in a hurry though.
Definitely need to update my review from the original 3.5. Haven't been here for a while but recently started visiting them again. Not sure what has changed but OMW the food is phenomenal! Been back a couple of times and it's consistently good. My new favourite place for a fantastic steak!
Went to this place for lunch. We had an awesome waiter who was always available when we needed him. The place is also vibey and great. There were a few things that let it down though. The French fries/ Chips were not seasoned and they were oily. This let down the meal a lot. The menus also made the place look cheap. They should invest in a better looking menu. Besides that, cool place to have lunch.
JB Rivers has such an elegant and yet modern vibe to it. The waiters are all so friendly, well dressed and know their menus. Firstly, the coffee is great and is served with an almost scone-like biscuit...so yum! The menu has so many options I couldn't make up my mind. I went for the fajita which was out of this world! The flavor was superb and the tortillas crispy. Hubby had the lamb shank. It was quite small for the price (a whopping R190!) but was still delicious. We would both recommend the fajita though, best ever!
I had a very nice experience at this restaurant. Our waitress was very helpful and friendly. Everything we ordered was filling, attractive and tasted great. Would definitely visit again.
1 - The aesthetics and place itself. The styling is what you would relate with a cafe. Comfortable chairs and nice furniture.
2 - The staff. Very friendly staff and they were always there checking up on us with a smile on their face.
3 - The menu selection. There was not a huge variety of food but there was enough selections to find something to try.
4 - The meal. I had a bbq ranch salad which was a big portion of food and great tasting (extra topping of feta would of made this dish exceptional). My family that was with me also had a fruit salad dish and an omelette which were full of flavor and big portions. The problem was the time it took for these meals to reach us.
JB Rivers makes the best watermelon and basil granita- it is so worth a try- especially in the summer when it's really hot. Their omelettes are divine at any time of day. A couple of months ago me and my best friend tried nachos at several different restaurants and JBs was definitely our favourite. The nachos are however, huge and the two of us couldn't even finish them. Go check them out if you're in hyde park.
Stopped for a quick lunch after a movie. The centre was hectic and we did not want to wait forever for a table. This place moved people through quickly and whilst we were looking for a table outside, all that was available was inside so we took it. Turned out to be a good decision as it was not so crowded inside and people watching could still be done from inside. We were not very hungry so we ordered the brown bread ham/cheese/tomato toastie and the brown bread chicken mayo toastie. Both came with thin fries. The fries were really good as were the gam/cheese/tomato toastie. The chicken was a little chunky with too little mayo/sauce. Service was good and fast. I will definitely come again.
I was so convinced this is somehow affiliated with jb's corner but upon seeing the menu I see its two separate entities. It's kinda weird that they don't have smoothies I was famished and wanted a drink that would fill me up I opted for an iced coffee the consistency was quite thick actually. My meal was quite a portion I didn't expect the hashbrowns they were quite oily I didn't love that and the leafy greens where a bit wilted with random pieces of brownish spring onions. The scramble is quite good I love that like the omelette the scrambled eggs can be personalized but the options for tea is really weak.
This must be one of most overlooked, yet extraordinarily successful eateries around. If you are ok with the mall-vibe then this is worth a lot more than just a quick bite on the hoof out shopping. All their meals a top notch and skillfully constructed. Such was the case with this Banting plate. Still a favourite of mine. JBR that is.
One of our favorites for Friday night dinner. The service staff are always helpful and friendly and the food is good. Banting choices offered. The Bifteki and Moroccan chicken are favourites for us. They make an awesome red cappuccino
An early lunch was suggested, only because it's frowned upon to start drinking sav blanc at 1 1h30 in the morning.
I thought I was being taken to a coffee shop but my friend knows my penchant for sashimi and proudly waved a sushi menu at me smiling gaily. Now that's a good friend!!
I was blown away by the fantasy rolls. Who knew deep fried could taste so utterly divine? The sashimi was plump and fresh, roses were tight and the rest of the platter did not disappoint.
The carafe of wine was also one of my favourite, Terra Del Capo.
The waiter was attentive, the company superlative, all in all a great experience and I will definitely try this place again.
I've been going to JB Rivers for years and I've never been disappointed. I had a wonderfully prepared sushi plate the other night - prawn and spicy salmon maki. The menu is well priced, and the food is good.
The variety of food is very nice, and the flavours and tastes are great. However a little bit pricey. But the staff are very friendly, and the food arrives relatively quickly.
Of course this restaurant is in a mall, so the ambiance is what it is. The sushi special on a Sunday is a great deal though and the breakfasts are not too bad. Service is generally good too.
Stopped in after a movie for a quick bite. Had the trio of burgers. Absolutely delicious. Cooked perfectly pink with each variations flavor shining through. The waiters seemed a bit irritated that we werent ordering much. But overall, worth a visit. Prices are a bit steep but it is Hyde Park.
The most amazing burgers in the entire Gauteng. Although slightly pricey, the food is simply gorgeous. Be ready to over indulge. Consistently good over the last few years. Large portion sizes also make the price a lesser issue.
Breakfast are great and service is incredible but it's not a place I would go to For a weekend breakfast. It's more of a weekday place when you running to woolworths
Been going to JB Rivers with the family for years. Great for a Friday night relax after a tough week. Works well with families because of the wide range of yummy well prepared food. The service is always good and friendly. A few years ago my son dropped a piece of cake on the floor - was really quite little then - and they immediately offered to replace. I love the sushi, my son the Prego rolls, my daughter the nachos and my wife the sweet and sour chicken kebabs. Yummy and friendly works for me.
Popped in for a quick dinner. Had the Cajun chicken salad, was superb and very tasty. Reasonably priced and the staff efficient. I did find their wine by the glass a bit over priced, considering now days there is such a big selection at decent prices.

Very pleasant atmosphere considering it is situated in a shopping centre. Service was a bit slow considering it was quiet. But where the service lacked the food made up in leaps and bounds! The Rosemary Chicken (blackened) was absolutely divine and the curry my partner had was beautifully presented as well as very tasty!

What a wonderful breakfast. Was immediately helped on arrival with friendly staff. My mom and I both ordered the breakfast croissant with bacon and scrambled eggs. It was beautifully presented, appealing to the eye with the colour contrasts. The bacon was cooked perfectly, slightly on the crispy side and the eggs were also cooked to perfection I.e. not dry nor undercooked and sprinkled on top were some onion flakes which just made the whole meal taste fantastic.
To drink Mom had the cappucino, I tried the watermelon lime and basil granita. On arrival I was rather sceptical on the look of it as it was brown and double checked it was the correct drink, which it was. When I tasted it I was so glad I ordered it. It was refreshing and you could taste the watermelon clearly. Loved it.
We had steak sandwich and quinoa salad. They were fantastic. Good flavor and fresh salad. Just quinoa was too soft and wet. Great service and good spot to sit down to observe Jozi people.

I had lunch here the other day and enjoyed it. There is a lot of choice on the menu, pricey but it is Hyde Park and hence expected. The service was good although our waiter did make some strange comments making us worried that our orders would be incorrect. But we got everything as requested, and we were fussy orderers ;). I had the Cajun chicken salad with pawpaw and almonds. It wad good just too much lettuce and not enough pawpaw. I would visit here again.

I had the pleasure of dining with a special group of people. It was an amazing night.
The chef was very prepared to roll out the food for our table of 14... That deserves a round of applause within itself.
The starters came out and I wasn't too sure where to begin. The starters were inclusive of:
Classical caprese salad with crispy ciabatta;
Spicy chicken livers with toasted garlic pita bread;
Chicken and corn ranch salad;
Nachos with guacamole and tomato salsa;
Thai prawn, cabbage and sesame salad; and
Quinoa salad with halloumi fingers and hummus dressing.
Yes, you heard me right, this was all part of the starter platters.
I'm not a big fan of quinoa but enjoyed everything else but especially the livers.
Let's move on to the mains. I chose the lemon and rosemary grilled chicken breast with seasonal roast vegetables and baked sweet potato. Mmmmmmmm. Yummy. It was amazing. I really loved it.
For dessert, there was the chocolate brownie with a Southern Comfort infused Lindt chocolate sauce served with vanilla gelato. I think I may have been converted.
I've never eaten at JB Rivers and was blown away from the onset. Firstly the service upon my arrival was out of this world and I was always felt like I was being taken care of. The food was awesome every bite. I'm sitting in my office right now currently carrying a little bit of a food pregnancy but a happ@y food pregnancy. I'm no foodie but the food was awesome. Thank you JB Rivers Hyde Park I will be back.
A lovely restaurant, perfect if you're not sure what you feel like. The menu is big, full of options and they have a Banting friendly menu as well. The food always tastes fresh and something about it makes taste like a read home cooked meal. Staff is always attentative and very friendly and all the food and drinks were bought very quickly. Good coffee as well which is always a win! Definitely worth a visit if you're in the mall, for a bite after the movies or just for a good meal!
Filling and healthy family meal. Enough to eat for Banting, vegetarian and health conscious. Veg stir fry, halloumi salad and roast veg salad were simply yummy and so satisfying. Huuuuge portions and so fresh :) very helpful staff and manager and the service was amazing.
For the vegans out there, I definitely recommend the Thai Salad. This salad is huge, perfectly seasoned and included a healthy and scrumptious selection of veg. Definitely one of the best salads I have eaten!

This is a fantastic restaurant to go to if you want a wide range of options- all executed really well. I've tried everything from the Mexican options like quesadillas to the pasta dishes to the great burgers they have on offer. The service is always quick and friendly and it's one of the few places at Hyde Park where you can almost always get a table without booking or waiting in a queue.
I love JB Rivers! Great place for some lunch, a bit of sushi or just to pop in for a quick coffee. This place is a Hyde Park staple! It's definitely in my top 5 in jo'burg for a coffee ☕️
Delicious Banting options. The meat balls with haloumi are to die for. Portion sizes big but I always ask for a take away box straight away!
JB's in Hyde Park is an institution and whenever I go there I expect tasty foodwith generous portions. I also expect good service and the thing that I like the most - you seldom have to queue to get in. All in all, I'd pick JB Rivers over the Tasha's upstairs.
I love this place for a quick casual burger (their bacon and avo burger is the best!) and a glass of Haute Cabriere. Never disappoints. Great service too!
I go often to JBs. They have the absolutely best beef burger ! They are generous on their fries. But the burger itself is just fantastic . I also enjoy their salmon salad and nachos ! Don't forget about their milkshakes !! Absolutely delicious! They have been around for many years. Their quality has never lowered over the years ! This is a solid restaurant!
My favorite place to go for an early dinner. Always the same great food and service. Even though it's in a shopping centre, it's my destination place. Cajun chicken salad is outstanding - great presentation and delicious.
One of our favorite spots after a Saturday movie. Loads to choose from off the menu, burgers, sandwiches, sushi, stir fry, steaks to Banting options. Never been disappointed.

I think the people are nice and some of the food is good like their pastas are nice but the only downside I find it is that I really don't enjoy some of their toasted sandwiches even my one friend didn't like it. But the rest of the place and food is nice.

Nothing spectacular about JB's, but I can always count on good food and good service.
Oh, and their Cajun Chicken Treat is amaaaaazing!
The service was great. The waiter Recent was on the ball, fast efficient service. The food was great we order a combination of pasta, lamb chops, sushi and tempura prawns. The pasta was huge for a half portion and the chops were a good size portion and done to perfection. The pasta was absolutely delicious, however the Tempura prawns were a disappointment, a bit on the rubbery side. The sashimi was fresh and good. Overall the service is great and the ambiance is always great.
Old faithful! You can always rely on JB Rivers to deliver good quality, comforting, albeit standard, food. Great for a quick bite on the run.
Nice atmosphere with attentive waiters. Had the salads, which were inventive and fresh. We were rushing to get done as we needed to catch a movie and the waiter was quick on the ball when told we were in a rush. All-around, a good meal out.
Always good for visit after the movies. IMO one of the best T-Bones on offer. We had the pasta today - Alfredo and Fillet. Very tasty, served quickly and hot. Heaven! love their coffee as well. Always attracts the movie crowd.
Incredible service and sublimely flavoured food. I highly recommend the bifteki, Morocco chicken and sirloin - a restaurant that can cook a good steak us worth coming back to!
Very nice tasty well prepared bf and perfectly cooked eggs , what a pleasure. Have a menu you can make up a brekkie as well. Coffee is not the best and could be improved. Situated in the mall so not the outside atmosphere , but certainly better value than the frantically busy Tasha's upstairs, I refuse to wait in line for a seat. Also like the luncheon and dinner menus , good place for a meal if you want to go to movies where children are few and far between, now done I am ready to face what the day brings!
JB Rivers is always good. I especially like the fish and chips. I was disappointed to see that with the latest menu, the steak frites has been removed. And the prices have gone up considerably. But still a good place with great service.

We enjoyed a lovely supper at JB Rivers at Hyde Park Corner. The decision to dine there was very impromptu but actually turned out quite well. The restaurant is situated in the bustling centre of activity within the mall and as a result gives off a very high energy vibe. But the seating is comfortable and the decor inviting. The service was extremely efficient and professional. Raj and I both ordered veggie meals today and both meals were divine. I had the pasta Genovese with linguine and Raj had the stir fry with noodles. The portions are extremely generous - I had a half portion and barely made a dent in it. The Genovese pasta was creamy, rich and bursting with flavour... I have always liked this particular dish and it is usually a dry pasta dish however, JB Rivers added an interesting twist to this sauce which I thoroughly enjoyed. The Veg Stirfry consisted of bite size pieces of seasonal veg tossed in a light sauce and served on a bed of glass noodles. The veggies were crisp and delicious and was perfectly complimented by the flavour of the sauce. And I just love glass noodles anyway. I liked that the parmesan served was the fresh, grated variety. The menu has some interesting items thereon that I would love to try in the future.... Especially the Belgian Chocolate Ice-Cream and the Chocolate parcels. Yummy!!!!! Definitely going back to JB Rivers.
A fairly consistent eatery, great for breakfast, light lunch or simple supper. I do find the waiters tend to ignore you, but there's always a manner to sort them out. I've never had a bad meal whatever time I've popped in, well sized portions towards large and plated attractively. It's position ensures you're surrounded by a crowd to keep you entertained.
Must be the place that have the best service and consistency in town. The menu is fresh and their food never disappointments. Management and staff is always helpful and friendly.
This is an upmarket restaurant in Hyde Park Corner shopping mall. There isn't much ambience as most of the seating is located in the middle of the busy walkways in the lower mall, so the passersby can feel a bit intrusive. Despite this, the service and food is actually far above average. On the menu there is a plethora of dishes to choose from - everything from pasta, salad, fish and sushi, to meat, sandwiches, burgers etc etc.
I prefer to have a salad here - made with fresh ingredients, and the portion isn't overwhelmingly huge (as the trend goes at most places).

Situated in Hyde park Corner close the movies this restaurant boasts a wide variety of food items on its menu, from breakfasts, steaks, pastas to your classic American burgers!. And the atmosphere is great too! I thoroughly enjoyed my classic Jb rivers burger, though slightly over seasoned it was grilled to perfection. It be great I'd they had a slightly wider variety of burgers e.g. Lamb and ostrich ! Portion sizes are great as well.

Went there with friends on a Tuesday - they ordered sushi and it seems like most of the stuff is not actually half price which makes their platter disclaimer quite misleading. I had the Banting meatballs which were actually quite good and came with delicious cauli mash. Love that they have a Banting menu as well. Atmosphere is pretty average because of the mall setting.
I think JB Rivers is the underrated gem of Hyde Park. It offers tasty food, good service and all at very reasonable prices. Aesthetically there are probably more appealing restaurants within the centre but to be honest, I would opt for JB Rivers as must first choice for breakfast or lunch when compared to alternatives. Definitely a firm favourite which has stood the test of time and is consistently good.
This fabulous restaurant is "part of the furniture" at Hyde Park Shopping Centre. With a wide variety of food for breakfasts, lunch and dinner - I can highly recommend their Moroccan Chicken dish and Espresso Martini - sushi is also offered and is always fresh and yummy. Awesome food, great ambiance and very good service all make for an incredible dining out experience!
I love JB Rivers! They have a great selection on their menu and the sushi is actually really really good. The service and kitchen is nice and quick so it's a great place to eat before a movie.

I often come here when Tasha's and/or Life are full. Their burgers are great, but the sushi yesterday was quite fishy so we didn't enjoy it. The service is friendly and quick and the menu is traditional and diverse.
Situated in the Hyde Park shopping centre, JB Rivers was a great choice to stop and have a quick lunch at. Being in a shopping centre means that decor wise the restaurant was very casual and nothing to write home about. However there is a good buzz about the place and it does stand out as somewhere you would like to stop and have a meal.
Our food arrived promptly and looked superb. Of course taste triumphs over presentation but it's always good to see that restaurants make the effort to ensure that the food looks as good as it tastes.
JB does pretty well for such a busy place. Their freshly-squeezed fruit juices are great, and the service is always friendly and fast.
Previously, I had the steak frites with bearnaise, and my partner had the mascarpone chicken linguine. Mine was ok, but his was phenomenal.
This time, we both had toasted sandwiches. I had bacon, brie, and avo, and he had a chicken mayonnaise with gherkin. The accompanying fries were crisp and fresh, but our toasties were overly dry and bizarrely tasteless.
It was as though, they'd made toast, unbuttered, and then put sandwich ingredients in the middle of two slices. It scraped my palate raw, and I was left disappointed.
Still a pretty decent alternative to Tasha's, though - the sushi looked amazing and it's half price on Tuesday and Sunday.
