Review Delta Cafe & Don Quixote - Johannesburg

We did a wine tasting there last night. Delta Cafe provided the food. Their food is amazing. Their pizzas are delicious. I highly recommend the pear and blue cheese pizza. I can't wait to go back for lunch soon

Ah man, this place is very special. The service was ridiculously fast, our food was amazing and came out within 5 mins of ordering it. Service is on point, friendly and professional. The vibe is jolly and the place just gives you a lekker feeling. I love it here.

Wow how have we not heard about the pizzas here before? AMAZING! And the southern fried chicken burger was also seriously good as well... very impressed. AND it adjoins the park. AND it has a wonderful play area for kids. Have Craighall-Parkers been keeping quiet about this place on purpose?

Outdoors, family place, bring your furballs along. The waiter even brought us a nice soft blanket to throw over our knees... Great service, very friendly. TV screens, free wi-fi and very clean Will see us again!

We had a large group for a Christmas party at Delta Cafe: An absolutely superb evening! Daniel, Shenay and the team were so helpful from the start & gave us different menu options to suit our large party. When the food came it was absolutely delicious. Daniel, you apparently serve the best chicken livers they've ever had in their lives! The staff was attentive, food service was spot on and the whole evening was magical. Thank you Daniel and Delta Cafe team!
Jennifer Niksch
Great venue to sit outside and enjoy Spring in Jozi. Good food, great service and beautiful views over Delta Park. Good value too.
Shaun Joynt
Fantastic place!! I wish it was closer as I stay in Benoni.. I'd frequent it often. The staff are so helpful and friendly. The food is amazing.. The best pizza I've had in a long time. Dogs are allowed and They visit you from surrounding tables.. Very "family" orientated. Parking on a weekend is a bit of an issue but they car guards and security always make a plan.

Always fantastic. Best Pizzas and beers in Jhb!! šŸ˜‹...not to mention the Proseco and the frozen Cocktails šŸ˜®šŸ˜‹šŸ‘šŸ½šŸ‘šŸ½

Basic breakfasts (coffee not great at all) but makes up with the phenomenal setting, atmosphere, service and accommodation of your friendly furry kids šŸ¶

The food was delicious especially the meal ā€œthe Andersonā€. The chicken was nice, soft and juicy with a lot of sauce on it. The meat fell off the bone and I just couldnā€™t get enough of it. Itā€™s definitely the best chicken Iā€™ve had. The owner is also very friendly and accommodating

Went for breakfast. Only people in the place. Food arrived and toast arrived when halfway through the meal. Pork sausage did not taste great. Mince was extremely salty. Not great value for money. Not about to rush back.
Morne Michael Schoeman
Thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance of the venue and the food was excellent. Even though there wasnā€™t a large variety to choose from what the do is great. Burgers, Pizza and wine was all great and the cheese cake a house speciality. Go for it and just enjoy. Typical Sunday chill place.
Jennifer McLeod Christensen
Beautiful location but really amateur restaurant. At R72 for a breakfast one expects something tasty. The Greek consisted of 1 slice of the thinnest toast, 1 x slice of tomato, 2 x slices of halumi, 2 x slices of bacon and unseasoned, tepid scrambled eggs (as they don't do any other type of egg on the weekend) if I forgot something it clearly wasn't remarkable enough to stick in my memory. Oh yes and my cappuccino was cold. Pity, as it is a lovely spot.
Robyn Tserpes
They now make pizza's. The BEST pizza I have ever eaten. Wow, can't wait to go back to have more. Our whole table of 4 thoroughly enjoyed the food on Sunday. Great location, great service, excellent food.
Zoe Merson-Davies
Perfect for breakfast/coffee after a delta run or cycle. Visit the entire "complex" when you done by strolling through gardens, nursery and charity shop.
Gillian Leach
Just enjoyed another tasty breakfast here. The perfect place to stop for refuelling and a rest on our morning cycle.

Kid and doggie friendly trip to the "country side' in the heart of JHB! Best pizza and wine topped with warmest welcome...batteries recharged for the urban jungle week ahead ļæ½
Claire Pieters
So accommodating to my vegan requests and it was the most delicious pizza I have had in months!
Isabelle Carole Hagner
Cool setting in a really nice atmosphere...and excellent decadent French toasts šŸ˜ and that comes from a frenchie šŸ’–

HI ALL I recently had my wifes birthday lunch at Delta Cafe. The staff were amazing with my kids and very helpful. The food was awesome and all had a great time. Thank you guys for a lovely outing! Recommend to all!!!!

This is the best treatment I have ever had at a restaurant. Outstanding! Cindy and Linda are an absolute gem. Lovely views, delicious affordable food and unforgetabble, friendly staff. Thank you! - Granny Jean

Delta Cafe is definitely one of the best places for kids to play and adults to chat without having to worry. There is a big play area for them and a large patch of grass to run around. Food was nice and service was average. Their savory mince on toast is delicious and my brother thought his Nutella pancakes were delicious. Weā€™ll be back soon and recommend it for a breakfast or brunch with friends who have kids!

I have visited Delta Cafe a few times now, and I can definitely say that it is solely for the view and the vibe.

This is a lovely spot if you are looking for somewhere outdoorsy as it overlooks the delta park and you can sit out on the sunny deck.

The food however is a tad hit and miss. The pizzas are simple and good enough, but I ordered the beef salad on my last visit and it was very disappointing.

I would still visit this cafe again, but definitely stick to what they do best, a pizza.
Teznee Pillay
This restaurant has the most beautiful surroundings, the seating is outside and it is great and breezy. My boyfriend brought me here for a late breakfast, we were famished. We ordered The Little Piggy breakfast (R79), we weren't super happy with the scrambled eggs, it seemed a bit watered down and a tad tasteless. The plate also consisted of bacon, a pork sausage, baked beans and toast. There were quite a few flies coming at us when our food arrived (must be because of the horses stables nearby) but it was all sorted when our Waiter brought us a little fan that chased them away. The breakfast was okay, not something I would order again. I would love to try something else on the menu next time, mostly because we really enjoyed sitting here.Ā

There is also a wine tasting place on the premises (they make their own wine) which is pretty darn great.

Came back to try the pizzas on 01/12/2019 and they were delish, there aren't alot of choices when it comes to toppings but it's simple and tasty. We had a Hawaiian and a Mexican pizza. The G&T on tap is also really good!

Convenient location in the park, but food and service need work. Breakfast was cold and service is extremely slow with staff running around delivering food and bills to the wrong tables.
Sharima Bramannan
I went here specifically for their caffe delta...a shot of espresso with condensed milk. This I luvā€™d. But I didnā€™t enjoy much else. I think itā€™s cos it was windy and the food got cold very quickly. They have nice breakfast options. I had the veggie option with eggs, halloumi, mushrooms and toast...luvā€™d the combo. Itā€™s also very child and pet friendly...so give them a visit if this appeals to you;-)
Casey K
Superb meals were had by all even though they took a whike. Playground right where you eat, child and dog friendly. Great service. Will definately be back.
Ling
Drinks are very reasonably priced compared to a lot of other restaurants. Highly recommend the peri peri chicken with chips, tender and spiced to perfection. Family friendly restaurant to accommodate young children in the play area

Walking in Delta we decided to give this spot a chance.Setting is really beautiful next to park.Breakfast of veg was okay, pork banger in little piglet meal wasn't nice.Service needs a little improvement though. Despite this, was good being outdoors with dogs
Momelezi
Awesome service, came on Sunday morning the restaurant was pretty busy. I always worry when I see canines and kids but somehow it all works... Thank you to the gentle brother who serviced us, pity I donā€™t remember his name but he is one of a kind. Thank you!
Craig Barendsen
POSITIVE: Team is friendly, welcoming and always willing to assist. Place is very easy for children and pets. It is one of the few places in Johannesburg where you don't feel you are in the city. Frequent the place often due to the relaxed atmosphere and well priced food.

Spent a beautiful highveld thunderstorm afternoon at a wedding reception held at this venue. The food was tapas style, focacia, mini steaks & pregos, haloumi, roast chicken and super fresh crispy salad. All served just in time and just prepared. Not an easy task, so top marks for the team.
Burningpaper
A thoroughly unpleasant experience in almost every way. Even if you are forced to compromise because you have kids or dogs you can better than this. Indeed, there would be little compromise if you, your kids and your dogs just rummaged for left overs in the bin on the pavement.
Cassandra Wright
Great venue for family outings. Lovely setting outside. Great service and the food was just as good. We had a function there and the staff and management were at our beck and call - with smiles on their faces! We had meze type foods, burgers, pregos, quiches - lots of easy hand foods.

Kids love this place too. Lots of space for them to run around. Lots of parking.
AndSabrina1
I first had the pleasure of Delta Cafe's food at a friend's birthday where from a food truck we were fed till full with delicious hand grab nibbles. Their set up restaurant, tucked away near the Delta Spruit gives way for an outside-the-city feel. Food... simple and pure sensation where every element has been seasoned perfectly. The chips, accompanied by their halloumi burger were fluffy and crisp at the same time - I know right! My eyes were just bigger than my stomach when I asked for extra chicken on my burger. A massive thumbs up and definite return!

So we are newly weds and new parents to a super busy 1year old. He has a mind of his own so every time we go out we always try and go to a place where he would not be stuck in a seat.

We saw Delta Park on the entertainer app and anything with a play area is always music to our ears. We tried it and we loved it and not only because our son could play, but they had a really good coffee. I am still trying to catch up on my sleep so I am always on the look out for a good coffee.

I ordered a really big breakfast and I enjoyed every bit of it. The mince was made in-house, the baked beans had flavor and the halloumi was grilled to perfection. I was straight from the gym so I cleaned that plate out in minutes. So a definitely a "must visit:

I had never been to this little-known cafe tucked in the suburbs of Craighall. I however selected it to host a Bridal Shower because my first option was fully booked and the Delta Cafe venue looked quaint and the "Tea Menu" offered was reasonably price. I was totally bowled over on the day and the event was a great success. The food was more than plentiful and everything was Ā delicious (their coffee is also really, really good). The service was exceptional - several guests said so - Daniel and the waiting staff really went above and beyond. Needless to say, I'm already plotting my next opportunity to host an event there again!
Jonathan Houston
Was the start / finish line for a night trail run through Delta Park. A great vibe with extremely friendly owners and managers. Their chicken prego roll is superb value and I wikl certainly give this spot a go for a weekend morning brekkie..!!!
Vanessa Kroeger
Lovely spot for families with kids. Perfectly cool under the trees with access to Delta park which our kids love. The food is tasty and fresh. Staff are very pleasant and hands on.
Love.Life.Daley
We would have loved to stop and have breakfast but we both enjoy poached eggs and they ONLY serve scrambled on a weekend. I totally get that they get loads of visitors with the park being so close but c'mon.. Eggs are really not difficult.. You won't see me back there for breakfast.
Christine Buchanan
We would like to say a HUGE thank you to Daniel and his caring staff for hosting the attendees, volunteers and therapists from Headway Gauteng (an NGO dedicated to the well being of people with brain injuries ). We had the most awesome morning, and platters piled with delicious food just kept coming! It was a heavenly treat for our guys many of whom seldom have the chance to get out and socialise. And the best of all. .. when we went to pay we were told it was all on the house! Please support this wonderful cafe with a big heart.
Heather Blackstock
Went in for tea after browsing at the nearby nursery, setting is lovely but the cake , one chocolate and one carrot , was basically inedible and stale. The strawberry milkshake tasted as artificial and had a strange texture possibly the ice cream used has melted and refrozen . Only the iced tea that came in a can could be consumed.
LuluFromJozi
Lovely little spot. Outdoorsy and kid/baby friendly and lots of fresh air. Food is tasty and fresh. Staff is friendly. Banting burger option not so great. Wish they would give the broccolli mash a skip and replace with fresh salad stuff. Feta salad amazing. Park at nursery.
KarmaZebra
Patrons literally flock across the spruit & through the park with strollers, bicycles and leashes alike towards the "oasis" they call Delta Cafe. Maybe it's just that reason that gathers the masses? As it certainly cannot be the service or the food...on my visit the staff were rude, unaccommodating & inattentive; the menu was limited (we were told we could ONLY order breakfasts in the morning and eggs HAD TO be scrambled - not easy with 5 toddlers who all wanted chips!!) and even when the food did arrive it was quite poor. The only points I can give are for the generator which has allowed me to nip across here from my nearby home during times of load-shedding for my much needed morning cuppa!
Carly Emma Seager
Favourite breakfast spot. Love that you can sit outside in nature which is a great change in JHB šŸ˜Š the food is really delicious, especially the vegetarian breakfast and coffee is great too. Lovely to have such friendly accommodating service as well. Can't fault the Delta šŸ‘ŒšŸ¼šŸ˜Š
Lars Anders Jensen
Pet friendly rustic restaurant situated right on Delta Park with direct access. Service was quick and friendly. My DC burger was delicious and very tasty.
Good venue for families and highly recommendable. Great walk along the river before or after is worthwhile.
Cathy Duncan
We celebrated my daughter's 5th birthday party at Delta Cafe. It was a wonderful day. Daniel, the owner, was so accommodating with regard to our entertainment and food requirements. All our guests raved about the food, which was delicious! The service was great and as a result we had a very happy relaxed afternoon.
Noni Demetriou
It's a great casual breakfast spot. Love their mince and the venue. Nice pancakes and delicious halloumi. Love taking our dog with they dog friendly and then going for a walk before or after.
Claudia McGregor
Sweet little spot just off the spruit with a little kids play area. We popped in yesterday for some tea & a treat. A friendly greeting by the owner is always a good start! We had the nutella pancakes which were delicious but their breakfasts also looked good. Plenty of dogs around so pet friendly too if you want to have some tea after a walk along the spruit.
Lee-Ann Spolander
Although a beautiful setting, so lovely to be surrounded by a park and outdoors, we were very disappointed in the food and play facilities for the kids. The food was extremely oily and cappuccinos not so great. Maybe we just ordered the wrong thing on the wrong day, but when you paying for a service you expect more.
Kendal Reid
A hidden Jem that you wouldn't believe was in the middle of the suburbs you drive through everyday. Although I was only there long enough to grab a cappuccino and croissant with preserves, I felt transported away from the bustle of JHB. The prices seemed decent and the service was good. Will be back with my family-as horse riding is available to!
Quinten Edward Williams
Nice venue. Trees, horses, friendly. They didn't have two of the cakes I wanted. Third time lucky with a chocolate cake and it was ok. Friend found two shortish hair strands in pan fried mushrooms that came with a breakfast. Delta Cafe has copy on the menu that reads 'just chill', just chill about things man. Not sure about the just chilling vibe when it comes to restaurants. Not terrible, could be better, prob will go again.
Cara&Terence
Nice little spot nestled in the Delta (hence the name) which is perfect for after cycling. The venue is amid nature, a nursery and the local horses (which can cause smell and fly related problems). The menu is plain and well priced but nothing spectacular. The savory pancakes were lovely and surprisingly filling while the breakfasts are also quite pleasing. Staff aren't particularly friendly and food can be a tad slow, however, the restaurant is run as a REEA foundation charity which makes it a worthwhile place to support. Good for a relaxed weekend.
Alison Milton
Lovely setting on the deck area and they aren't fussed about your beagle joining you at the table. Excellent cappuccino's and breakfast fruit that accompanied the muesli and Greek yogurt was fresh and delicious. My partner enjoyed the eggs and bacon too. Will definitely be back!!!
Zoƫ Dorothy Brentano
Went here for a night race, good venue but rather small and not very well marked from the road. Staff are friendly and happy to help. Their prego and steak burgers smell and tastes equally amazing. The only problem I had was the price of a coffee for the size of it, other than that it's a nice little cafe if you looking for somewhere peaceful.
Judith Matthis
5/5 for location! So refreshing not to be in a mall or looking onto parked cars. Great care to gardens and outdoor setting. Very good basic meals and tasty cappuccinos. However, the rebellious child in me was tempted to misbehave in response to all the strict instructions in the menus and toilets! That said, still a local favourite of mine for the settings.
Jager Sisters
Loved our lunch at Delta cafe. Genuine and friendly staff. Good food. Great setting. Decent coffee. I had a generous and delicious broccoli and feta salad with extra chicken. The setting, service and food makes it a place we'll be sure to visit again.
Brett Perlstein
Great new addition to the little black book of weekend breakfast spots. Great views of the park, excellent breakfast in a light and bright setting. Will definitely be back
Kelly Emerton
Delta Cafe is a lovely little spot nestled in the heart of Craighall, next to the meandering delta stream and surrounded by picturesque veld and incredible horses.

Okay it sounds like I'm writing a poem to Delta Cafe, but honestly it's a wonderful restaurant in the most amazing location, a local favourite and a hidden gem. If that isn't enough for you, the food is superb, the staff friendly and its super child friendly (if that's your thing).
Lucianrajah
An awesome setting, ideal for a weekend get together but suitable for lunch too. Service is fantastic, food is great but takes long to arrive. At -+R100 for their signature burger, chips and coke it isn't cheap. A must try for the burger and open sandwiches though.

Edit: toasted cheese and tomato on brown has become my new favourite from here, unbelievably delicious and great value.
Genna Hansen
A lovely place for an awesome lunch or coffee with friends and family! Kid friendly with plenty of space for them to run around. A must for play dates
Lizelle McLean
We visited the delta cafe today after hearing about it for ages and living so close to the park. It was packed when we got there and i was quite excited. But what a disappointment after receiving luke warm coffee, luke warm tea. We ordered a savory pancake only to be told gat they did not have mince. After ordering alternatives and waiting for about 10mins we were informed that they no longer have pancakes. šŸ˜Ÿ. We also waited for about 40mins for our food to arrive.
I was so disappointed. I really hope that this is a once only thing but i will not be recommending or returning.
Michael Morton
Cool setting and dog friendly... Good Banting options, and a good cup of coffee. Food does take a while, but it's a very relaxed setting so didn't bother us too much!
Katherine
What a relaxed dining experience. So nice to be out in the fresh air and sunshine for a chilled Sunday lunch. The menu is not extensive, but sometimes that is better. Nothing worse than offering every type of cuisine on a menu which just confuses me and makes it hard to decide. The waiters are lovely and not at all pushy, so we didn't feel rushed to order or finish up and go, in fact we were there for a good few hours. I had the chicken Prego for lunch which was juicy and tasty, and the perfect size. The coffees are really good too. Get there early on weekends as they get very busy and you cannot book, and don't forget your vino as they aren't licensed.
Marike Louw
I joined a group of friends for a lovely Sunday lunch in the sunshine at Delta CafĆ© this weekend. They were unfortunately out of stock on the flatbread that I wanted to eat, but I was very happy with my second choice of a burger. I also tasted the pasta which was delicious. As they don't have a liquor licence, they were very happy to let us bring our own wine and beers. The deck makes a lovely setting.Ā I love thatĀ cyclists and walkers are alsoĀ able to access the restaurant through Delta Park. The waiters are all friendly and lovely to the kids running around. Best of all, they do not rush you at all and allow you to linger. I will definitely be back to try the flatbread!
Cameron Wood
Awesome place. Chilled out, good food and you can bring your own drinks. Winner!! Great for kids and dogs! For families this place is incredible!!
Robyn Amy Hunter
Very chilled relaxing place, i went on a sunday for breakfast. Food is good, coffee good too. Tranquil setting with no traffic noise. Blankets were even provided for keep the chill out. Service a bit slow when busier
Lauren Kim
A lovely tranquil child and pet friendly place where you can only hear the birds and the river (apposed to traffic noise) - the feta and broccoli salad is super tasty. Very busy on weekend mornings
Janice Kelvin Leibowitz
I was here for a private event so can't comment on the menu, but it's a gorgeous, quaint place that would be perfect to relax at on a lazy, warm Weekend afternoon. I had the best chocolate cheesecake in the entire universe here!! Really!!! And Daniel (in the pic) takes his food seriously and wants you to do the same!! As soon as anyone went near the incredible buffet table he would ask what he could offer them. His irresistible charm is part of the package of this wonderful little gem of a place!!
Jeanette Verster
From my blogĀ
Ā Their coffee was amazing, being Bean There coffeeā€¦ and the barista did the most amazing patterns in my cappuccinos (yes, I had more than one). The lunch was also really goodā€¦ although we both wished weā€™d got there 15 minutes earlier to order their breakfast fry-up :)Ā
I had the salmon fishcakes and salad which was perfect for a weekday light lunch

Itā€™s not very big, and we sat on benches under the trees. They cater for families, and kidsā€¦ and itā€™s a cycling and dog friendly spot tooā€¦ with direct access into the park. The owner chatted to us for a bit and told us that on weekends itā€™s hectically busy, and they run queues. I can imagine!
Amit Vanmali
Excellent coffee and breakfast, i had the veggie breakfast. Definitely a hidden gem. Fast and friendly staff. Can recommend it and will definitely be back.
Margie
Friendly service - beautiful country side setting. Had the rump burger which was delicious and perfectly prepared. They ran out of ice but that was not too much of a problem. A great meeting place for cyclists and walkers - a cyclists haven in fact - don't forget to bring your own wine and drinks because they are not licensed ! Child and animal friendly.
Abi Clark
We were to excited to try this "little gem" unfortunately nothing lived up to expectations.

After a long wait approximately 35mins lunch finally arrived.

A very mediocre beef burger with soggy chips and a processed cheese slice as an extra.

Undercooked haloumi in the vegetarian option that had to go back, only to return on the second try hardly cooked again.

Tasteless tatziki and salad leaves with marks and blemishes.

With so many superior options close by Delta Cafe needs to step up the delivery of good meals as you can only rely on location for so long.

Service was friendly.

Ilinda Du Preez
Nice place to stop for a quick coffee when cycling on the Spruit. The bullet proof coffee ie espresso with condensed milk perfect shot for tired legs. The food is always freshly made. Good for lunch, lovely setting under the trees and they are pet friendly.
Shannon Niebuhr
Delicious burgers and fishcakes, freshly prepared, very friendly and helpful service, and a calm + relaxed atmosphere made for a perfect Sunday lunch. Family-friendly with a small play set for younger kids. The only small thing was that the specials were all sold out by 12:30.
Steve Nicholls
Delta Park Cafe strikes the perfect mood for the location. Unpretentious and friendly. The owners will come chat to you (unless you don't want them to) and bikes and dogs are welcome. The staff are super friendly. It's a great place for kids (jungle gym equipped) and the food is a welcome addition to a walk in Delta Park. Have the Prego. The Colorful Splendor nursery next door is a great place to stock up the garden.

I absolutely adore my little suburb of Craighall Park in Johannesburg. There are tons of little secret spots that in some ways I wish could remain secret, so I could have them all to myself. Sadly though, they all need business to survive and survive they must so I have places to enjoy sunny lunches.

My latest find is Delta Cafe. This gorgeous, mostly outdoors, cafe is situated in the REEA Complex on Marlborough Drive. I recently wrote about another little gem that opened up here, The Bamboo Palace, and if these two new spots are a sign of the awesome things happening in this complex then Iā€™m really excited for the new direction REEA seems to be taking.

Delta Cafe has a small (and tasty) breakfast and lunch menu. They also serve superb coffee and cake and are an ideal stop for anybody visiting Delta Park. Cyclist and runners have fast become fans of this place, and itā€™s easy to see why too. The food is fresh and wholesome and there are some delicious salad options on the menu too.

Donā€™t expect gourmet cafe food here, but look to find some really tasty dishes that are perfect in their simplicity and are accompanied by great coffee. Iā€™m not sure if itā€™s part of the plan, but the cafe doesnā€™t currently hold a liquor license, so you can take along your own drinks should you wish.

Delta Cafe is open Tuesday to Sunday from 08h00 to 17h00 and can be contacted on 084 509 8084. Their website isnā€™t up yet, but you can follow their page on Facebook for the time being.

A little gem tucked away in Craighall, Delta Cafe is a great spot for breakfast or lunch. This was the second time I'd had visited Delta Cafe and on both occasions the service has been fantastic, really refreshing to know when Jozi patrons deal with very average service, this place gives you some hope. Try it:-)
Ryan Smit
Awesome place to come to on the weekend, especially if you have dogs and or kids! You can enter straight from delta park, or go in through the Nursery. They have simple but delicious food, and it's not too expensive. #zomatovalentine
This is a charming small and Ā informal country style restaurant/cafe - think rustic wooden floors with french doors opening onto a wrap around veranda into a beautiful garden on the edge of the park. It is located just off Braamfontein Spruit in Marlborough Rd, and can be difficult to spot - best is to look out for the nursery, and Delta is right next door.Ā

Surrounded by tall trees and and a flowery garden, it is the perfect place to go if you want to feel like you're out of the city. A simple breakfast and lunch menu makes for hassle free dining, and their coffee is delicious.Ā

You can take your kids and/or dogs along as there is plenty of outside seating.
