They serve the perfect cake with the perfect moisturizer and rich in flavor. I have ordered from Chateau for over three years and they have never let me down. I'm obsessed with their cakes. They've become cakes for every single birthday in our family. Had a cake date with some friends on a Sunday afternoon after having lunch somewhere else, this was perfect because it wasn't very busy. We tried their watermelon crush thing , it's a really refreshing summer time drink , for me it was like sour sweet which I love and for my friend it was too sweet. It's worth a try on a really hot day!

My favorite has to be the red velvet đ... I bought the frozen one and I was a bit skeptical about the "freshness", once melted it tasted as good as the fresh one, honestly worth every cent!

Walking into this store felt like dying and waking up in cake heaven! It reminded of the boutique chocolatiers I've been accustomed to from living in Cape Town for the last 9 years. The selection of cakes is literally mind-blowing, I just couldn't decide what to have. And when the food did arrive, it felt like a thousand fairies were dancing on my tongue - all in sync. I'm leaving four stars because the staff could do with a sprinkle of customer service training, although the food is beyond amazing. If management can fix that, I'll add the fifth star. Be prepared to be to delighted!

We ordered a chocolate croissant and a pear and almond tart: I enjoyed it. <br/><br/>They also have cakes in the freezer which you buy and take home to serve later. My only reason for visiting is to spoil myself with a treat of melt in your mouth decadence. And this is definitely achieved with the Rococo!! <br/>They have a unique tea selection which is great. <br/>Generally the cake is pricey but worth the spoil.

My favourite spot, I enjoy coming here having a cup of coffee & trying a new slice of some cake I had last when I was a child or never even had ever before. So as far as their core business 100 % achieved the coffee & cake are excellent. <br/><br/>It's a coffee shop, patisserie there is so much more that could have been done to create a better ambience but unfortunately for me it's non existent, most times I've been there it's empty which to me speaks volumes about an ambience not being present.<br/><br/>The display is good & mouth watering, staff are always friendly but if I could give you any advice; it would be to place your order at the counter because they don't make a huge effort to assist you at the tables (I'm not sure if that's there policy)?!?

I normally order the big frozen cakes for an occasion so my review is purely based on that because I have not tried their individual options. <br/><br/>I personally bought the B1. It should actually be renamed to death by chocolate. This is so decadent and rich that even if you want another piece you can't. <br/><br/>My cousins ordered the red velvet and carrot cake which I tasted a piece of each and this is no let down either. These 2 are the best that I have tasted. <br/><br/>All in all. If you're looking to get your fix on cakes this is the place. I've never been let down.

25.03.2017 Stopped here to get some indulgent treat's for the family. I was amazed at the variety this small shop has. I was also impressed that they were reasonably priced compared to other patisseries. <br/><br/>You can either go for the decadent slices or the petite small delicacies which look more like art than food. I took some plain croissants which were absolutely flaky and divine. Along with an apple tart, caramel tart, chocolate tart and a cheesecake. Family enjoyed it. <br/><br/>Staff were friendly and helpful, I noticed there was a huge fridge with the frozen versions of cake for sale too.

I am a sucker for pastries and dessert so any place with a good-looking dessert menu automatically goes on my bookmark list.<br/>When we arrived at the Thrupps Centre and I spotted the Château Gâteaux Patisserie from across the parking lot I knew we would not leave until I had acquired a slice of cake.<br/>Initially I was a little disappointed with how it looked from the outside but I suppose that's to be expected when a venue boarders the parking lot. It didn't have that clean, almost romantic feeling I feel it should have.<br/>The waiting staff were friendly, eager to please, and quickly pointed out the most popular cakes and pastries. We ended up leaving with a slice of the Roccoco Chocolate Gâteaux, a slice of the Mozart Gâteaux and a Mississippi Mud Pie. All of our desserts were decedent and delicious but the Roccoco Chocolate Gâteaux was by far the best.<br/>Overall we had a wonderful experience that was made even better by the heavenly desserts we left with. I cannot wait to return again and try another delicious dessert.

My friends bought my birthday cake from this branch and it was absolutely delicious! They got the Walnut Truffle cake and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cake was also really big and I decided to freeze the remainder and save some for a few weeks later. I was slightly skeptical about how it would taste after defrosting but to my surprise it still tasted just as great. I've heard that they can actually be kept frozen for up to year which is great. Will definitely be visiting the branch soon to try their other cakes. I've heard the Mozart is just as amazing.

After a week of craving nothing but carrot cake, I decided to stop by the patisserie I've heard so much about. I went with a friend, Jolene, and we shared a slice of Swiss carrot cake, which could easily be some of the best carrot cake I've had. We also shared a passion lemon cake, and a chocolate brownie. As neither of us have that big of a sweet tooth, we didn't end up finishing it all, but it was divine.<br/><br/>I'd definitely buy one of their cakes for a future birthday or function. Can't wait to go back again!

We decided to stop here for a cheat treat and we were very impressed. The little shop is very cosy and the cakes on display are beautiful. We had trouble choosing, but ended up choosing 3 treats - the carrot cake, the lemon cheesecake and chocolate brownie. I loved that they weren't too sweet and were so full of flavour. Their mini desserts are presented so beautifully. We grabbed a few after dinner and unfortunately I was disappointed. Some were pretty good and some were just average. Perhaps they're better in the mornings when fresh. <br/><br/>Their cakes on the other hand, are utterly delicious. I've tried several slices and the quality is always top notch. We bought a cookies and cream cake, not only was the price quite reasonable for a gourmet cake but it's the best cake I've ever had. It's just the right combination of all the elements of the cake. Meh. Got take away cake from here - one slice of the Mozart and one slice of the passion cheesecake. The Mozart cake was quite nice, but the cheesecake had a horrible foamy rather than creamy consistency and it was sour - not tart, but sour. All the cakes apparently are frozen and when we bought the cake they said we can't eat it it straight away, we must wait for it to defrost. Meh. Woolies cheesecake is much nicer. And I prefer fresh cakes thankyouverymuch!

Popped into Château Gateaux in Illovo. Having already had my 2 cups of coffee for the day , I tried their steamed chai latte. It was delicious and not too sweet. I asked for recommendations regarding the cakes and was told their B1 chocolate cake was a customer favourite. Great cake. But super rich and dense. Probably good to share with a friend! Service was great too, with the manager coming to check that all was OK. Will be back -but with a friend if I want more cake; couldn't finish my slice alone!

Some free time between appointments led us to this patisserie. There is so much to choose from so it took us quite a while to decide. I had an individual portion which had coconut macaroon shavings on it, it was underwhelming and way too creamy. I had bites of the desserts we all bought, aim general the others tasted good, in hindsight I should have gone with the safer option on a cheesecake. <br/><br/>The iced coffee I had was delicious, worth a try.

Today I ordered a hazelnut latte and found it quite lacking. The Hot Mud Pudding did make up for it though!

This is a sort walk from my office and as a result it has become one of our favourite spots for a celebration.<br/><br/>We came to celebrate the three of my colleagues one year anniversary at our company.<br/><br/>We arrived and were greeted by friendly staff as we pressed our noses (figuratively) against the glass display and decided what to order.<br/><br/>We all mostly chose something different which meant that we got to have tastes of everything. I had a coconut cream cake which was delicious and light as a feather to eat. Othet friends choose chocolate mousses and cherry apple cakes. Everything was yummy- especially with our cappuccinos.<br/><br/>My only critism was that the cakes that needed to be warmed took some time to arrive.<br/><br/>Splended place for cakes, I am sure we will celebrate here in the future.

This is such an awesome bakery/cafe and is usually the best place to grab a dessert or two a day before an event as its frozen so stays fresh. My absolute favourite is the Mozart, that is layer of crispiness, cream, nuts and minimal cake. Its divine. Lemon and strawberry cheesecake is also delish as well as the cookies and cream (giant Oreo). You are spoilt for choice and the little options are great if you cant choose just one cake. Its great to meet a friend for cake and tea, an awesome venue for a bridal/baby shower and also awesome for an after dinner treat in Illovo.I love how they add the special touches of a ribbon and even ask whats the occasion and try to match the ribbon to it.

Château Gåteaux is a trusted brand from Durban, and they know their stuff when it comes to cake baking. <br/><br/>The fantastic thing is that you can buy one of their frozen cakes (yes, that is a thing), and take it home with you - just follow the defrosting instructions carefully, and viola! You'd never know it wasn't baked on the spot. <br/><br/>Their selection of small traditional European-inspired tarts, cakes, puddings and bakes are right up there too. So many to choose from! The chocolate volcano (fondant), served hot with cream, is absolutely sinful. <br/><br/>More modest options include baked New York cheesecake and apple crumble tart, which are both equally enjoyable. The coffee is not my absolute favorite, but still nice enough.

They tasted a little bit like a cake one might expect from a grocery store rather than what you expect at a well-known patisserie. The best place to go and pick up a late birthday cake or for a special occasion. I usually get my B-day delights here , this year went back to get the yummy cookies and cream. Service for the first time was horrific , the server at the stand refused to get our cake and give some assistance. But the front desk man was pretty pleasant. Amazing!! The cakes and pastries? Far too delicious for words... I had a chocolate volcano which was amazing! I love how they have smaller cakes for tasting and larger ones which you can buy for an occasion. The coffee? Perfect. And if you don't have a sweet tooth, there's lovely gourmet sandwiches and pies to choose from. We will be back!

C'est magnifique! Chateau Gateaux is a perfect little spot for those of you who have a craving for some cake and coffee/tea. I had the privilege of enjoying a visit to this establishment for a mid-morning snack with a friend. <br/><br/>The selection of cakes is astounding. And every single cake looks delicious. Their cake is not the only sweet morsel on offer. I was not in the mood for cake, so I opted for a small pecan-nut and cashew tartlet with fresh cream. It was to say, the most delicious pecan-but tart I have EVER tasted. I enjoyed a hot and flavoursome cappuccino with my snack. The service is friendly and professional. <br/><br/>The establishment is roomy and has a lovely atmosphere. I thoroughly believe it is worth what you pay. I will return for some more cake and possibly even make use of them to cater for future parties. <br/><br/>Très bien!

Fabulous patisserie with a huge selection of beautifully crafted, decadent desserts. The Belgica caramel tart was heavenly and the hot mud pudding was perfectly rich and gooey. Chateau Gateaux is definitely my new favourite patisserie!!!

The cakes are delicious and classic with a twist. If you had to close your eyes and guess what you were eating you'd be there all day, the flavored are bold and complimentary. It is reasonably priced. I would recommend the cookies and cream cake or the red velvet.

Possibly one of my favourite patisseries in SA. They have a wide selection of cakes and tarts as well as some cafe food if you in the mood for something savoury. My personal favourites are the Fudge Picasso and the Swiss Carrot Cake. Perfect Sunday midday spot for a cup of coffee and some amazing cake.

I can't believe I have never been to Chateau Gateaux before! They have the most delicious cakes especially the double decker chocolate tart! It is the perfect place for tea and sweet treats. They are also really reasonably priced. Will definitely be back!

If Snow White had known about this place she would have declined that rosy red apple in a heart beat..<br/><br/>I stopped in for a coffee with colleagues and ended up walking out with a box crammed full of cheesecake, chocolate mousse, fudge picasso and delicate apple tart. And that was just the box for my son...<br/><br/>Is there a down side to this spot; could be that the prepared cakes take 2 to 3 hours to defrost; or it could be the matter of my expanding waistline if this becomes a habit!<br/><br/>Kudos to the people in the kitchen conjuring up these little pieces of Happiness.

OMG! The best little cakes and tarts in Illovo. Wow. We ordered a variety for a work meeting and we were all blown away. Every little thing tasted amazing and looked so beautiful I didn't want to eat it. I can't wait to go back and select more little goodies!

As an avid cheesecake lover, I'm always on the lookout for a new place to try.<br/><br/>At first glance, Chateau Gateaux seems pretty good. Cute name, cute decor, pretty display. However I have to say that I wasn't very impressed with their baked cheesecake :(<br/><br/>They all looked a bit too mass-produced and the flavour, in my opinion, was quite synthetic. I'm not sure if they use any artificial flavours or preservatives, but it didn't taste as good as it should.<br/><br/>Haven't been back to try anything else, so other visitors may have varying opinions.

Stopped here to get a birthday cake for my bday... worthy enough for my work colleagues. My cheerful bday spirit came to a sudden halt after I was treated with no courtesy by the staff that seemed to be too entertained in one corner of the store to worry about the birthday girl. I eventually bought a cake which was not up to scratch at all. It tasted average and it was frozen in parts. :( Not so cool.@

Unfortunately I was rather disappointed by this patisserie. There's something very inauthentic about the precision of their cakes and desserts. Rather than appearing to be carefully made they come across as being mass produced, which I fear may be the case. Of the two desserts I tasted both were over powered by sweetness. So yeah, with other amazing options just down the road, I haven't been back.

Chateau Gateaux is an amazing patisserie in the heart of illovo. The mozzart cake is simply amazing and the picasso cake is like a real piece of art! A real little Paris cafe in joburg!

As the name would suggest, Chateau Gateaux, is a little European styled bakery and tea room. You order beautiful little cakes and desserts from the counter and pair them with tea and coffee. The savory menu on offer is limited to sandwiches and rolls (about 6 choices) so this little spot offers an opportunity to make a date for tea and cake with a friend or loved one - whilst a quaint idea and a cute bakery I am not sure I will be back. We tried a cookies and cream cake, which was delicious and a praline inspired cake, which was less delicious given its rather gelatine consistency. The bakery also stocks full cakes to take home for parties or gatherings with friends. The cakes taste good but given their cold storage and the fact that they are prepared in advance, they lose that soft, just baked texture.
