Review Trabella - Johannesburg

Nafisa Akabor
This branch is now halaal. I was not happy with the traditional spaghetti & meatballs and bolognaise ordered here, but I'll stick to pizza and desserts in future. Service could be improved. The Meringa dessert is excellent.

Never thought I would have authentic Italian food in South Africa! Halal too! The food was exceptional and the service was great. Had penne pasta with cherry tomatoes, mushrooms, and chicken with a side of their special strawberry passion drink. Also tried some caesar salad and butter chicken pizza off a friend and everything was super tasty!

Decided to sit in for a meal which I rarely do. Restaurant was quite for a Friday evening. Not been a fan of col cacchio pizza, I was not expecting much. Ordered 2 half & half pizzas. The pizzas were excellent. Absolutely delicious and made to perfection with loads of toppings. Waiter was great. Will definitely give this branch a go when the pizza craving hits.
Yunus Badat
Great pizza and pasta place. I found the flavours really well balanced. One of the best halaal places around.
Muhammad Khatree
Food is excellent. Pizza is authentic and tastes truly Italian. The decor and atmosphere is welcoming. Unfortunately service was slow and the waiter forgot some of our orders. Also, the apple crumble was under done and doughy. Otherwise, this is a great place for family.
Tooka Chinchilla (FluffyBunnyFeet)
Great pizza, love the fact that you can order half of each flavour. Very nice setting, looking forward to it again
Ahmed Almarzougi
Very tasty Italian food I tried the one in Durban and repeat it again. We took two orders and both are great.
Waseem Bhamjee
Good food. Very nice atmosphere. The service was a bit slow. Other than that, great place

One of the best dining experiences ever! The pizzas are authentic Italian - probably the best I've ever had. The steak was pretty awesome too, they said medium rare and it came medium rare. Overall, the mood and atmosphere is great. Suitable for both families and couples. Service was also fantastic. If you guys keep it up you'll be seeing a lot of me.
Shiraz Abed
Very good 🍕, alot of different signature pizzas, good family atmosphere, milkshakes also very nice

Absolutely excellent experience every time! I love the great food! Seating is in abundance so u can have a good meal without feeling cramped! The service is always excellent! No complaints! For a great family meal or even a romantic evening out, I'd highly recommend this place as there is also safe secure parking too.

Food was awesome and appreciated the low carb options on the menu. Setting and ambiance was great. Good place for intimate meal or for a group. Servers were polite and knowledgeable. Food preparation does take some time but worth the wait. Menu is diverse with the usual pizza n pasta as well as other tasty mains on offer. Highly recommend this place.
NAZEER MAYET
The 4 stars are for the food which was as good as expected but the service left a lot to be desired. The waiters could pay more attention to taking orders and seeing to the patrons needs than to stand chatting in the corner. It took 3 requests to get a glass of water totally unacceptable. Surely one cannot expect to tip for service that is not up to scratch.
Mike Gendel
I ordered 3 pizzas (Basic, veg and anchovies. I checked the menu and none of these had chilli listed as an ingredient (other pizzas did). When I got home I discovered that the pizzas were extremely spicy. Given that they were bought for young children, I had to literally trash them.
Lulu
Amazing thin crust pizza!! Delicious sangria too! Loved our cheerful waitress. .
Amanda Ngcobo
Our waiter was so polite and friendly. The food was delicious and fresh. Wish we could have stayed a tad bit longer, but it was a great experience. I'll be back soon!
Nirusha Ramla
What a great restaurant, the pizza was absolutely scrumtious, the base was super thin and crispy, and the flavours burst into my mouth. I ordered a Brown mushroom, oinion and sour cream Pizza which was delicious. The pizza toppings are interesting with a variety of combinations, which makes this restaurant very popular. The service was great and we were taken care of very well, this is a small little restaurant but very cosy and homely.
I will be back.

I'm a pizza lover, the exotic toppings where very nice. Was interesting to taste something different.
Service was good even though our waitress was rather forgetful but she was friendly which kind of made up for it.
Best pizza in Joburg. Staff are amazing and make you feel like family. Tracy’s special (with chicken or pancetta or salami) is an absolute winner.
Anusha
This was the worst pizza. It was paper with a disappointing topping with leftover cheese which the Italians could learn from. The ambience was the only thing good.
Chiara Louis
Although I’m more a traditional Neapolitan pizza kind of girl, Trabella comes a close second for a cheesy thin base pizza with quality ingredients. Their mushroom pasta is also divine.
Lungi
Yummy yet simple Italian food. I went with some friends and we ordered various pizzas and pastas which were all flavorful and delicious. The service was really attentive and great.

Best pizzas in town!

Whether we're Uber Eating it or looking for a perfect date night out - Trabella is the place to go. Their pizzas are crisp and light. They offer a variety of pizzas that accommodate my vegetarian state. :)

Thanks for raising the bar for pizzas in Joburg!

Trabella Parkview, we went to give it a second chance. The food is a average but oh my the service is terrible. Food took forever, waitron nowhere to be seen, eventually we spoke to the manager but he also wasnt interested in attending to patrons. Please put a senior person at the branch to help out.
No Time To Waste
I first went to the sister location in Parkview and had to come here to try the same pizza again.

A classy place. Black walls with black chalk boards. I had the pepperoni pizza. The crust was perfectly crispy and thin. The toppings fresh and flavorful.
I had the entire pie myself without sharing.

The waitress was super also. She fixed the wobbly table on her first try.

A great place for a Sunday dinner.
Trisha Soni
I can’t find the correct words other than this
Brilliant veg pizza
Brilliant salad
Friendly service that respects that I’m veg and have allergies

Fun times
Great memories
Anthony Marks
Their porccini pizza is the bomb. Wow, an awesome experience. Your Margarita pizza with additional fresh tomato , totally new experience for a run of the mill pizza. Breathes new life into the mundane. Keep it up guys.
Lisa Lumley
Had a nice time at Trabella.

The pizza was very tasty with a thin crispy crust. The gnocchi was a bit stodgy, however, the Amatriciana sauce was very good.

Unfortunately we didn’t experience great service. The hostess was lovely but it was impossible to flag down our waitress who was very rude.

Ilan Ben-David
One thing I'll give Trabella is they have a wide range of pizzas and pastas unavailable at many other places - new , interesting toppings, different flavours etc. Atmosphere is nice and energetic, waiting staff is friendly, although partially slow at times - although I was a part of a table of 16+ and next to another table of roughly the same size , so a slight lack in service is understandable.
Pizzas are delicious, and have a super thin, crispy base. I did find one or two slices were likely over cooked and burnt, but other than that they were fantastic. In my opinion, prices are slightly high, and more than most other Italian restaurants. Even pastas are slightly overpriced, considering the portion size isn't especially large. I'd definitely recommend if you're looking for a good pizza with a nice atmosphere!
Meagan Hutchons
Ordered three pizzas from Trabella on ubereats. One of the pizzas was missing topping and all three bases were burnt. The topping were ok but I think there are much better Italian options in the area with better value for money.
Lizelle Brink
A friend and I decided to quickly grab a pizza at Trabella. I had a vegetarian pizza with extra eggplant. It was delicious! The service was however rather slow and it took a long time for our meals to be served.
Cameron Kernahan
Let’s face it, the majority of a rating is based on enjoyment of the actual food. The pasta was delicious and had fresh ingredients. The ambience of the actual restaurant was simple and straightforwardly relaxing. Was a simple yet delicious Italian!
Ruan Hattingh
Nice little place with a interesting menu. They serve thin crust pizza, lots of options to choose from. Might be a little bit expensive but very tasty.
Ilyaas A. Mayet
I usually order from Trabella through Uber eats. The pizzas are good-the base is thin and crisp and well cooked, while the sauce is well flavored-although it could use slightly more salt and pepper. The toppings are usually quite fresh. It’s definitely consistent and a good place to have a filling pizza without the guilt afterwards!
Angie Erin McCann
Brilliant food, staff, vibe and the owner is an absolute treat!
I’ve tried so many of the pizzas and each one is delicious. I still plan on trying every pasta!
The waiters know their menu and the service is quick.
Great wine selection too.
And if you’d like to taste the best cake out there - peanut butter chocolate cheesecake ❤️
Tracy, you’ve done an outstanding job!

Amazing amazing AMAZING Spot!
We were looking for a new and authentic Italian spot for a Saturday night and came across Trabella on the app...
We are pasta fanatics and the vegetarian pasta was out of this world. Fresh sauce with loads of veggies. The pizza was one of the best pizzas I have had in a while. So many options for vegetarians which I loved! My only suggestion, is to serve the pasta dishes in a slightly deeper bowl as my delicious sauce was spilling out the bowl but nonetheless I will be visiting again very very soon!
KarmaZebra
Just the right amount of candlelight and warm, cheesy smells wafting out of the pizza ovens; beautiful wines and perfect pizzas. If this is for you, Trabella is a winner. Unfortunately, I am a veggie girl and in my opinion a bunch of raw pizza toppings chucked into a bowl does not a salad make!
I must add that the owner was very apologetic about the state of the salad and didn’t charge us for it but I feel that there are many just as cosy Italian eateries in town with well thought out veggie options (and friendlier waitrons) that I would rather frequent...
Douglas Lorimer
Excellent pizza at Trabella. Base was thin and hot. Toppings were tasty (we had the aubergine parmigiana). Beer was good. Service by AK was also excellent. Setting also great on a warm evening out on the pavement.
Gabriella Maxine Abrahams
Fabulous thin tasty pizzas. By far the best pizza in the Illovo area.

Definitely a favourite with my boyfriend and I. Their Regina is one of the nicest I have had.
Ashray R
Horrible food and service. Never go here. You can find many better restaurants nearby. Waste of money. Had been to this place with my friends but none of them liked it. Disappointed.
I tried to make a booking at this place and was initially accepted with a table of 20 people. I specifically asked whether a set menu is required as I'd have quite a few vegetarians, pescatarian and other friends with specific dietary requirements coming. The initial response was that a set menu was not required. 3 days before my booking, I receive a phone call from the manager saying that a set menu is required. When I tried to argue my point about this not being a requirement initially, she responded by saying "I don't want to risk 20 people pitching up ordering jugs of water on a long weekend". After a few phone calls back and forth, she decided to use foul language, I don't need your booking". This was the worst treatment I've ever received from a restaurant patron and she even failed to answer my question as to what had changed from when I initially made my booking to when she called me to change the requirements. I suspect this has something to do with the fact that a long-weekend is coming up with a rush of customers expected, hence trying to clear out her bookings. I will never recommend a restaurant that treats random strangers like this to anyone, regardless of the quality of their food. It's time that small businesses also begin to have a social and corporate responsibility when it comes to the way they treat customers and non-customers.
Carol N
Nice thin base on the Tracy' Special but overfilled with underseasoned, bland toppings. I'll give this pizzeria a 2nd chance as i suspect they are capable of better
Chantel Ronaldson
Nice intimate setting stunning food fast friendly service! We will definitely be back soooooon. A must for all pizza lover. Excellent quality!
Lisa Davonne Ronaldo
Average service, the pizzas are good, I found the Margherita very average, but a few of my friends absolutely rave about the pizzas, so maybe a different choice with more toppings would have been better!
Camilla Speight
Trabella is a firm favourite when the pizza craving hits. The 'Tracey's Special' pizza is a definite must, with an indulgent assortment of toppings and flavours and a paper thin crust, you can't go too far wrong. If you're feeling extra naughty, then the peanut butter chocolate cheese cake is sure to satiate a sugar craving and clog a few arteries (in a good way). Consistent good good, service and wine.
Khuthala Worx
First time at Trabella. I've been converted - thin base pizza all the way. Good food, nice location and best part - lunch away from the office 😀
Jill Nudelman
I like this place. It's casual and convenient and open on Sunday nights. Service was not great though. We waited a long time for our salad and pizza. The pizza was cold. When we asked the waitress to take it back for heating, she asked us to take the rocket leaves off. I mean. No! It's not for the customer to take the rocket leaves off the pizza.
The heated up pizza was delicious. Thin crispy base and lovely cheese. Mixed green salad wasn't. The tomato tasted rotten.
Corkage was cheap at R50.
Claudia McGregor
Best pizza in Joburg! Love love love this casual spot (still need to book though!). Their bacon, feta and avo pizza with chilli is superb...
Sharima Bramannan
I've been a fan of Trabella for a couple of years now. I like the quaintness of the restaurant and the food and derive is always good. Last night I had the pizza with parmaham and Parmesan...I really enjoy the flavours, and specifically enjoy the thin based pizza.
Caitlin
My favourite pizza spot in Joburg-this place never fails to deliver! Thin and crisp-based pizzas with delicious fresh toppings, you can't beat it. The pastas are just as good-so full of flavour! A glass of wine and a Trabella pizza is the perfect relaxed night out. I would give it a 5 but the service is a bit slow-but that doesn't take away from the quality of the food.
Popsi
This is a decent Italian restaurant with a wide variety of delicious meals. It's located in the vibey Illovo Junction, but the decor is simple and the service is great, making it a solid choice for a good dining experience.
Natalie Lazaris
I've been going to this Hotspot for years and it never fails. It's just consistent in its food and service. Busy and set in a bustling part of illovo, it's definitely worth a visit. Good for both sit down and take away, the pizza never dissapoints. Nice touch too, their wine is served chilled.....so refreshing to experience.
Thirusha Reddy
I attended a friend's birthday dinner here recently and was immediately taken with Trabella's cosy, intimate setting. The owner, Tracy is a warm and inviting host and you can't help but be charmed by this cute little pizzeria.

I'm a sucker for a good pasta, so I opted for the delectable sounding smoked salmon pasta, which I was told is a house favourite. I was a little disappointed with the salmon pasta, which although good wasn't memorable. The rest of the table opted for pizzas, which they throughly enjoyed. The Oreo cheesecake was without a doubt the highlight of the evening for me. Overall not the best Italian food I've had, but I would definitely return to try out one of their pizzas.
Susan Gawith
Pretty average pizzas, the kids said that they liked them. My creamy feta and potato pizza had a strong taste of stale oil and was very disappointing . Very loud house music, not great for a quiet meal. Service was friendly
Tey Carter
I did not enjoy my experience at all. Firstly the parking was a nightmare! I had to pay a guard to let me park in an apartment building! I know there is parking across the road but with the shoes I wear I can't be darting in traffic on crazy Corlett Drive.

I do not have a palate for pizza so perhaps I am biased. The pizzas had no flavor and the service was slow for such a small shop.

It was disappointing overall experience.
Jaynisha Patel
Trabella is a charming and welcoming Italian restaurant in Illovo. The service was friendly and the wine list small but adequate. We did feel like the food was generally quite over priced for what you're getting - standard portions of pizza and pasta.

We dived straight into mains. I had the leek, butternut and Gorgonzola linguine which was really rich, creamy and delicious. It was a tad bland in terms of flavour but nothing some salt and chilli couldn't fix. Everyone else on the table opted for pizza, which they all enjoyed. It was thin and crispy so that's always a winner. The cheesecake we had for dessert was okay - nothing memorable.

Overall, nice little Italian spot. I think the pasta was the standout dish but the pizza was as good as most other places in the area. Would be happy to head back to try their homemade gnocchi.
Yanir Grindler
Great cozy place, pizza was really really good. Reccomend the Tracy's special. Service and the presentation was also on point. Will definitely head back for another pizza

It's Sunday night and I don't feel
like cooking. So we go out for dinner. Trabello is open and surrounded by great restaurants and we think it's a good bet. Wrong. Nothing in particular stands out and that's what is wrong for me. The food is uninspired and boring. The decor is fine but certainly not original, fresh or classic. The whole experience is one of blandness. It's a pity because there is a lot of potential here and at least our waiter was friendly and funny. He gets all the points.
Lauras World
Stopped in here on Sunday night for dinner with three friends, and parking was an absolute nightmare!! I ended up driving round and round the block until a French car guard offered for R20 to allow me to park in two other vehicles in the already restricted parking outside Perron.

If you don't mind having to perservere or being parked in, however once inside you will find a homely looking restaurant with a modest selection of pizzas and pastas.

Onto the food: I was most impressed with Trabella's generous portions on both and the quality of the food on offer, and on the whole it was a most enjoyable evening. I selected the Smoked Salmon penne pasta and it was delicious but when I saw my friend's pizza I certainly had food-envy!

*Recommendation: Pray that the paid parking lot across the road on your evening visit of choice is open, or you will be driving the block until you know it backwards.

Great food, great atmosphere and an overall lovely time at Trabella. We went as a large group and the service was prompt. The restaurant is cozy, perfect for winter. Highly recommended

My rating says it all! Best Pasta in Joburg! Awsome little place. Very cozy with a good wine selection too and great service!🍷🍝🍴♥️🍷🍝🍴♥️
Candice Schneider
Outstanding food and service! We were a large table (25 people) and all the orders were correct and brought out at the same time. The waitress managed very well with a large table. The pizzas are crisp and generous with toppings. I love coming to this restaurant.
Smelly Celly
My new favorite pizza joint! I'm a fussy pizza eater, i have high standards, but they were all met at Trabella. Accompanied by good wine and great service. You can also order half half of different pizzas. I'll be back!
Jolene
We had the Brie & Cranberry, Tracy's Special and Spicy Chicken & Avocado. All 3 pizzas were great and the environment was very chilled. We were so impressed with our pizzas the first time that we ended up ordering the same ones when we went back a second time.
Jarred Cinman
Still the best pizza in Johannesburg. It's no more complicated than that. It's warm, it's friendly and the ingredients are fresh and tasty. It's deserves support for being passionately local and anti-chain. Wonderful and amazing in every way.
Genna Hansen
Had a delicious pizza there with friends! Although we were a big group they were very attentive and everyone was impressed with their dinner! Will be back
Greg Cohen
Socially. A great place. Just manage your parking well around grant avenue can be a challenge. With that being said. Staff are fantastic. Friendly and efficient. Relatively limited Italian menu. Food comes out quickly which is a plus but pizzas are a little poor for my taste. Burnt edges so pizzas are not fully watched especially since they are thin bases and no tomatoe Base tends to give the pizza a dryness. Go there for the vibe and pasta.
Erin Hazan
We phoned Trabella tonight just as the kitchen was about to close. We ordered our food from the car and when we got there the service was great and the food was delicious. The halloumi and honey starter is amazing!
Cassi Ozen
Recently went to Trabella for dinner with friends and its not as great as i remember it being. The service was excellent, our waitress was super friendly but i felt the price of the food is not justified for what you get. I ordered the leak, pumpkin and gorgonzola pasta - very tasty however in the pasta were about 8 small cubes of pumpkin and no leaks at all. So R95 for a bowl of pasta and cheese sauce. I wont be rushing back any time soon.
Paula Baetu
The second time I have eaten at Trabella. Last time I had pizza and the base was thin just how I like it. This time I tried their gorgonzola, leek and pumpkin pasta with their home made gnocchi. Gnocchi was fantastic, best I think I have ever had. Sauce was good but I do not understand the point of the pumpkin. Put more pumpkin in or leave it out because it is not doing anything for the sauce. Maybe put in some thin ribbons of pumpkin instead? Just a thought. Good job on the pizza though :)
Janine
Have been coming to Trabella for YEARS. It's the only place I will eat pizza which is the best I've had outside of Italy. It's the real deal.
Paula
Trabella is a must, when you are in ilovo area. The decor is very modern and urban, a chilled and relaxed environment. The staff is friendly, with big smiles on their faces.

We started of with a chardonnay, the fat bastard. Then had pizzas, i had the "tracy special" vegetarian option. The pizza base was thin and thecrust, was crusty! The toppings was fresh and a explosion in my mouth, could taste every topping and together it was great! I have never finished a pizza in one sitting, by myself...this was the best pizza ever!! Like in ever!!!

My friend had the salami pizza, it was delicious!
The green salad was packed with flavours, no skimping on the parmesan...loved it!

Well done to Tracy(the owner) and her friendly staff!

I will definitely be back, to try out the rest of their menu.
Caitlin Wagner
Wonderful pizza ! Would definitely come back as the menu definitely was very inviting. Enjoyable atmosphere a definite for family dinners or a quiet dinner with a friend.
Nitin Nichha
Last night was my third time at Trabella and the food just keeps on getting better. I had the Tracy Special with spicy chicken. Absolutely delicious.
Yasmin
I heard amazing things of this pizza restaurant and wanted to experience it myself. But unfortunately I probably ordered the wrong pizza to experience it properly. The Banting pizza hardly had any taste. But next time I'll definitely try a normal pizza.
Sébastien Delsemme
Best pizza in town with thin crust bases and just mouthgasms for days! Real Italian food on the menu but the vibe is just so lovely and alternative.
Lise-Jo Snyman
Trabella is PROPER Italian 👌🏼 we went there for dinner last night - didn't struggle to get a table for 4 as walk ins, but the restaurant was full enough to give off a lovely ambience. We ordered pizzas and salads, and they were all phenomenal. Great flavor combinations and just downright good food 🍕 the wine selection is also good and the service is wonderful. I'll definitely be back to Trabella and recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Italian food 👏🏼👏🏼
Courtney Dunford
I love Trabella. In fact, they are the only place that I will eat pizza from! The cranberry and Brie pizza is something magical! It is always busy so make sure you book but definitely take the time for date night, family dinners or catch ups with friends!
Tracy
Great pizza! Salami, olives and chili always a winner. The four cheese gnocchi, holy moly, it's a thing of absolute beauty! Super rich, so helps to share!
Christina Maria
Quality !!!!! This place never ever goes out of style . The food is always excellent, consistent,Fresh and delicious. The price is reasonable and the service is good . The staff is super friendly and efficient . Their pizza bases are light and crispy . Now that's a real pizza !!!!! Their salads and pastas are superb!!!

Due to the rugby fever every restaurant and bar seemed to be fully booked so a takeaway was in order. We ordered a few pizzas from Trabella. The choices were pepperoni and chili, spicy chicken, and we had the bacon, avo and feta on a gluten free base. The only fault was that there was no avo. Our pizza was delicious. I had a nibble of the others non gluten free base and ours was crispier and tastier. I think we found a winning pizzeria of gluten free pizzas.
Marcelle Bolus
Really the BEST pizza. Their choice of toppings are really interesting as well. The ingredients are fresh and you can tell a lot of effort goes into preparing.
Likecaramel
So despite reading the mediocre reviews this restaurant received I decided to go there regardless because I remembered having a great meal at Trabella a few years ago. Either I have a fairly bad memory or something has changed in terms of the restaurant's standards. Once we sat down and our friendly waiter had greeted us it took quite a while for him to return to take our order even though the restaurant was at best half full. After we ordered it took quite a while for our food to actually arrive, which was again odd based on the fact that the restaurant looked half empty. I decided not to say anything about the long wait because I know quality food takes a long time to prepare, but that was not the case here. When our pizzas arrived I noticed that all three were burnt on the edges. I'm by no means a picky eater but when I'm paying for a pizza I don't expect it to come with a ring of charcoal around it. I waited to see if the waiter would do or say anything about it or even apologize, but he did nothing so I pointed it out, to which he replied "is it too burnt?". I'm not sure if I have ridiculous standards but I don't think food in any restaurant should be burnt at all. Ever. I understand mistakes happen but at least own up to them and apologize or offer your patrons a discount.

All in all not a great experience and I wouldn't go back.
Martin Levine
Illovo centre, came for an easy Saturday dinner with a gang of mates. Service was soooo sloowww, waiter just simply forgot what we had ordered.
I had Aioli pasta, linguini and will say it was light and quite delicious.
The rest of the table varied from pizzas to veal. No great shakes, but it's an easy eatery.
Lindy Dall
The food in general is usually great. Last night the Banting base pizza was excellent. But the teriyaki prawns was simply overdone prawns with sweet chilli sauce. Definitely not what we expected. Service is never great
Epicurean Republic
Trabella make some of the best pizzas in town. The atmosphere is cosy and the service is generally very good. Nestled in between some amazing restaurants this restaurant definitely holds it own.
Alexandra Du Plessis
I think I'll need to give this place another chance.

We came here for dinner the other night before the mad dinner rush. The decor is very sweet, with almost black walls and pincushion proteas on every table.

However, our service was shocking! I think our waiter's name was Sam. He was friendly enough, but we just about had to get up and call him every time we needed something.

After delivering our drinks, it was more than 20 minutes before he came to take our order. Three other tables came in after us, and all of them were served well before us. The three of us sat in the corner of the room, and ended up eating the parmesan cheese to keep us going! Some complimentary bread and butter or something would have been really nice.

After a loooong wait (the other tables were now paying their bills) our food eventually arrived. And this is why my review isn't all that bad - the pizza really is excellent. I ordered the Tracy's Special, which has just about everything on it, and it was absolutely superb. I can also recommend the Italiano Salami and Potato, Onion & Feta. All of them were delicious.

So we finished our meal, had our takeaways packed and asked for the bill. Sam said cool. But then nothing happened. Eventually we were the only customers left on our side of the restaurant. Seb got up and went to call for the bill again. Another wait. Just as we were getting up to leave (another good 20 minutes after having asked for the bill), Sam magically appeared. He didn't hear us ask for the bill, apparently.

We gave him a bad tip, understandably, which he was clearly not impressed about. He kept checking the bill (obviously to make sure he was getting a cut) and left the table without saying anything after we had paid.

Nobody said goodbye or opened the door for us as we left. Really, really disappointing. Unfortunately, an excellent meal doesn't make up for terrible service.
Katherine
Trabella has become somewhat of a favourite amongst my friends. I've been there a few times and I enjoy it but I do think there are far better pizza places to choose from. Last night we ordered a table salad and focaccia to start. The salad was massive and packed full of ingredients and the focaccia was honestly one of the best I've tasted! For mains I decided to order a pasta- the leek, gorgonzola and butternut with linguine. It was delicious but very rich, and could have done with some more butternut! There were only a few tiny pieces scattered throughout. My boyfriend ordered a pizza which he said wasn't so great. Normally he enjoys their pizza so maybe they were just having an off night. I often have the brie and cranberry pizza, and add bacon to it, which is really good. Whilst their menu is a decent size, I do sometimes find it hard to choose something. Nothing ever really stands out and even their specials board doesn't seem that "special".
Sam
It's surprisingly difficult to find a good pizza place in Johannesburg. Once places start franchising the quality goes out the window. I was hoping Trabella would offer some good pizza seeing that its owner run. The restaurant space is weirdly designed with three disjointed spaces.

Our waiter wanted to put us alone in the middle section where there is no ambiance whatsoever. We asked to be moved to
The section where everyone else was seated. The space would be romantic if it weren't for the big industrial eye sore of a fridge at the bar area.

We tried the spicy chicken and avocado pizza. I do believe if u adding feta to a pizza it should be put on after the pizza has baked otherwise it's a bit of a pointless topping.

We also tried the Tracy's special with chicken. I wouldn't recommend anyone order this pizza, there is just way too many toppings which spoils the pizza.

Overall the pizzas felt average and bland, the base was okay but not as thin as I would have liked it. I felt a bit sick after eating here so I don't think I would be back, the ingredients didn't feel like great quality to me.

Definitely not my new place to go for pizza. I'll stick to Cornuti.
Nicole
Great service and good food (although the eggplant on the pizza was a touch too oily). It's a pity that the pasta isn't home made; I had assumed that a place like this would make everything from scratch. Definitely NOT a reason to skip this place - just an FYI.

Parking is a mission.

Disabled friendly if you choose to sit by the entrance.
Sam Wood
The anchovy pizza is a must! Although you do need to ask/beg for extra anchovies!

Environment is great, if a little small. Prices are good, and service has never been bad.
Jozi Nick
Nice Pizza & Pasta. hipster decor. Good gnocchi. awesome staff. Great Gnocchi. awesome place to eat. Amazing GNOCCHI. pizza that's better than most. Staggeringly spectacular gnocchi. Gnocchi that's like eating clouds. Possibly the best gnocchi in the world. parking & traffic are a mission. You should go. it will change your life
Jessica-Mary Kuzlo
An unbelievably pizza every single time! And when I say pizza I mean loads of toppings, interesting combos and cooked to perfection in their authentic pizza oven!! Whether it's take out or sit down meal, it never disappoints!

The first time I went to Trabella I loved it, that was about a year ago. I was there again recently for dinner and I was so disappointed. The service was terrible and the restaurant wasn't even busy. My carbonara was quite good but the table's food all arrived at different times with quite long intervals in between so some people sat with food getting cold while we waited for everyone's food to arrive. I'm hoping this was a one-off! I'll definitely go back, just to make sure.

The first time we went, everything about their pizza, including crust and tomato base was amazing! Now - service, salad, pizza, variety - all average and don't justify the prices at all! If you want to use The Entertainer app, you can't anymore, as the manager reports a discrepancy between them and the app... Either way, the vouchers should be removed but it shouldn't be your problem! The manager did help us out in the end, but I felt that it could have been handled better. I won't rush back there again. I've had much better pizza elsewhere.

Had a weird experience here tonight- at the end of an evening of good food and OK service our waitress decided to "separate the tip from the bill" and stood with a calculator at our table while making me wait to pay. I requested to pay before she continued but she walked away to the till. When I approached the manager she said that the waitress was "checking that we hadn't underpaid" but I hadn't even been given a chance to pay. Highly frustrating and confusing situation which wasn't handled well by waitress or manager. Not sure what the story was or if anyone else has had such issues?

Stunning place! Not your typical pizza joint. Great menu, good service and fantastic ambience. It serves well for a get together with friends or family, and an intimate place for a date. Romantic, but rustic.
I have been here 3 times and I am yet to feel disappointed in the slightest.

I am on holiday in Jozi and have been told about this awesome pizzeria and truth be told it is a really awesome family style restaurant with a very homey feel, it's cozy and the staff are friendly and very efficient. We had a large salad for starters (when I say large, I mean large enough for a family of 6) then I decided to try the Trabella special, it had pumpkin ,roasted beetroot in honey and pine nuts...its was delish. The thin crispy base was perfect. They should open up in Cape Town :)

Banting pizza bases have me going back regularly, Cosey and intimate, quick walk from home. Staff are friendly and efficient. Could work on a better wine list, wines are too expensive.

I rate this place where you go with good friends for good food. Their menu is limited but delicious. I really enjoyed the vibe. This might become a regular thing.

Recently enjoyed lunch with friends at Trabella. We sat outside on the pavement in the afternoon winter sun. The pizzas were very interesting and delicious. The service was also very good. Our waitress was attentive and friendly. Will definitely be back to try some more of the pizzas.

Trabella is a cosy and hearty restaurant nestled in a nook on the corner of Corlett Drive and Oxford Road. The wine and daily specials that are handwritten on the chalkboards with sweet decorations help create an unpretentious yet warm atmosphere, booking is recommended.

What makes this restaurant special is the creative blend of rich Italian flavours generously decorated on thin crispy bases, hard to believe but a hard to find in Johannesburg. The most impressive draw card is the flexibility in ordering half and half pizza; satisfying any indecision in what to try first.

The competent and prompt server advised that the most ordered is Tracey’s special; a pizza jam packed with Peppers, Mushrooms, Olives, Artichokes, Sundried Tomatoes, Chilli, Garlic, Salami or Chicken with three additional topping options (R92/R95). Instead I can recommend a Pepperoni & Chilli and Eggplant Parmigiana half and half (R92) or alternatively for the Artichoke and Olive lovers indulge in a Quattro Stagione (R92).

In addition there are traditional pasta’s (the Carbonara heartily recommended, (R82) and salads available, however the scrumptious comfort and delicious flavours of their pizzas make it my first choice.

Very dissapointed after reading so many good reviews. Service was non existant. Had to ask twice for our wine and then had to ask for our Garlic, Chili and Parmesan after pizzas came to the table and then waited forever to receive it. There we only 2 other tables with customers in the restuarant last Sat afternoon. Garlic, Chilli and Parmesan are std at any Pizzeria. Dough was soggy in the middle on both our pizzas which meant we had to eat it with Knife and Fork. Will not eat there again.

Trabella is consistently good! The best pizza (try the Tracy's special) and lasagne ever! Tracy the owner has run her establishment well for over 10 years! BANTING pizza now available! Eat your pizza heart out baby!

I WONT EAT PIZZA ANYWHERE ELSE ANYMORE! ---> I am shouting because I found perfection!
I absolutely adore Trabella! We are so lucky to only live a few blocks away so it has become our local pizza joint.
Their decor is lovely, it has a very homey vibe. Service is friendly and fast.
I think I have tried all their pizza's and I can't say I like any one more than another.
Delicious, generous toppings with the most delicious thin bases, they are almost crunchy.
I unfortunately always get too distracted by their yummy pizza that I still haven't tried their pasta. I promise I will soon!

Excellent! Friendly staff and amazing pizza! It's got a great vibe and even tastier food! Had just a quick bite, served fast and friendly and the thin base is just perfect

This is a very popular spot. I have only had the pasta there and was very disappointed, it tasted like spaghetti out of a can. It's a very busy restaurant and my friends rave about the other food.

Really really great pizza. Thin bases, interesting topping selections. If you're going out for a pizza do it here. Really great pizza and not badly priced either

Trabella's menu offers a variety of pizzas and pastas with interesting flavour combinations. The restaurant when full gets quite noisy but it's a super spot with lovely service and good food.

Trabella is a great little restaurant. It has three separate area's in which you can sit, each with its own vibe (depending on the night). Service is slick. Food is a real winner and pizza's are their forte. Well done and will be back! Ps prices aren't bad too...

My dear friends organized my birthday party here. We were placed on the separate side, which is quite nice as it was more privacy. However it was quite squashed, we were a huge crowd though.

Drinks and food order was quite efficient although We were a huge crowd.
Food wise we ordered starters, snails and ostrich Carpaccio. Snails were popping hot in a white sauce that was delicious despite it being served in a plain lasagne dish. Ostrich carpaccio was well presented and tasty.

For mains my boyfriend and I ordered a pizza each.. I had a Tracy special and he Quattro stagione. The pizza base is nice thin and crispy. Good amount of filling but I think it could be tastier in flavours.

Starters and mains came together as it was late and people were hungry.

Service was great, We had bought 2 cakes in for the evening, and they organized it well for us.

Overall I thoroughly enjoyed the evening with this restaurant.

I have only tried the pizza at Trabella, and it is light, fresh, and delicious. The unique variety provides many options for vegetarians, and the pastas look great as well. Their food is really well priced too. Be sure to book, especially over weekends as they get extremely busy. It is the ideal Friday night spot to enjoy a chilled out dinner at.
